Condolence on Sheikh Saad death.I, A. Veronica Fernandes, initiator and founder of GOA-KUWAIT SOLIDARITY CENTER, on behalf of our organisation, on behalf of my colleagues, associates, supporters and well wishers, extend my deepest sysmphaties to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness the Crown Prince of Kuwait, His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait and to the Al - Sabah family, the citizens and residents of Kuwait, on the passing away of His Highness The Father Amir SHEIKH SAAD AL-ABDULLA AL-SALEM AL-SABAH, on Tuesday13th of this month - yesterday.
Sheikh Saad as we know him was a great lover of Goan community. Immediately in 1978 when he was appointed as Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kuwait I saw him from close angle while he was walking freely at Fahad Al Salem Street - Kuwait City, hallowing and wishing everyone whom he was seeing passing by him. He was walking without armed bodyguards which made him more accessible to anyone especially to the expatriates. This shows his simplicity. A born simple man he always had a broad smile on his face.
During the invasion of Kuwait, he spent hectic days and months moving from one place to another and one country to another to garner support for the liberation of his county from the invasion of Iraq.
During the invasion of Kuwait, under GOA-KUWAIT SOLIDARITY CENTER we organised a big movement in Goa to highlight the plight of Kuwait and to demand liberation for Kuwait. In this process we organised public rallies and public meetings in Goa to air our views and to force the Government of India to support the liberation of Kuwait. All the press cuttings and Videos of our movement were sent to the Government of Kuwait in exile stationed at Taif in Saudi Arabia, thru Kuwait's Ambassador in Delhi. Along with his cabinet colleagues and others when Sheikh Saad saw our Videos and read our press cuttings he was deeply impressed by our love, affection and gratitude we Goans showed during that particular time to Kuwait from where we earn our sustenance. It is not only he but also all other Kuwaiti VIP's and other citizens showed their appreciation to Goans for standing by Kuwait during the critical time of Kuwait. Goans have created a special niche into the heart of Sheikh Saad and the Kuwait Government.
I never personally met Sheikh Saad but after going through all the Videos and press cuttings he was deeply impressed by my wisdom and courage to organise such a mighty movement in Goa inspite of himalayan opposition from the supporters of Saddam Hussein. He was keenly following all the activities we were doing in Goa in support of the liberation of Kuwait and after the liberation of Kuwait he was also following our activities in Kuwait especially our meetings at Plaza Hotel on 26th of every February to raise our voice in support of the freedom of Kuwait's POW's (Prisoners of War). To make our voice more forceful and more audible, I on behalf of G-KSC even went to Delhi and met all the top world leaders stationed at Delhi asking them to work for the speedy release of Kuwait's POW's.
In his death we lost a great admirer and lover of our Goan community and Goa Kuwait Solidarity Center. May his soul rest in peace.
