Re: Response to "I am ashamed to be an Indian Ctizen

I have read the 2 responses sent in response to Article mentioned in the subject.
I may not agree many mentions of Veronica in the article, but I fully agree with him what he wrote about the so called Leaders of India specially the present ones. They are the cause for honourable Indians to get disgusted and to reach to such an intolerable expression. However I know Mr. Veronica is very respected Citizen of India who will never trade his citizenship to any other Nationality given an opportunity. I have known many hypocrites who claim to be Indian Citizens while they have really not done anything worthy to be called responsible Indian Citizens. I know Veronica who has brought respect and dignity to Indians in this part of World by being more responsible Indian than these hypocrites who claims to be real Citizens while in fact they are unpatriotic and traitors.

The activities of Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center under the Convenorship of Veronica has attracted a world appreciation and much respect not only to Goans but to entire Indian Citizens. The relationship which Indian Leaders have severely soured with Kuwait and Gulf countries after the invasion of Kuwait by Iraqi Dictator, Saddam Husain due to a warm hug given by India’s then Foreign Minister, Mr.Gujral, giving an impression to Gulf Countries that India supported the Invasion of Kuwait, have been regained through the supportive movements & demonstrations of Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center soon after the invasion which prolonged even long after the liberation of Kuwait and the whole credit of this goes to Mr. Veronica.
Veronica’s article was mostly referred to the present Politician-Clowns and so called Leaders of India, who brought shame and disgrace to real democracy and bad name to India. There are no salt worth Statesmen left in India. They are all selfish and most of them are of shady character, with criminal background and some of them are even illiterate and semi-literate and these characters are today ruling our India. Under these circumstances who will not get feelings of disgust and get frustrated and speak the words that are really not meant!

Soglem dista toxem nasta.

Hello Veronica,
Here are two responses to your open letter regarding the subject. The responses make sense.
Cheers Oscar From: melissa. Sent: Monday, 17 August 2009 11:57 AM. To: Vanita Vaz.Subject: RE: [GOAN-NRI] Fw: I am ashamed to be an Indian citizen.I strongly second Vanita's opinion. I believe I am blessed to be born an INDIAN. It would be a different me if it was not for my birth country. True that I like most others have embraced other citizenships but that does not absolve me from my responsibilities towards my nation and primarily does not confer on me any right to DEGRADE India. Agreed that India does have aeons to go but criticizing and complaining only retards it. I would most certainly be tempted to ask what these 'ashamed critics' have done to improvise the situation. From experience most have left India, settled overseas and shoot emails from the world over opining and advising what India 'COULD DO - SHOULD DO'. Its time each of us take responsibility for our actions and INACTIONS!!"Vanita17/08/2009 08:23 AM

I m a proud Indian Citizen – whilst I agree with all this- India has defined me with lovely sense of culture, hospitality and warmth. True there are several evils that plague our country! But there’s precious little we the so-called citizens do about it. The onus is on us – recall JFK’s quote ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country! I for one, am certainly proud of my Indian heritage! Jai Ho!

Re: MAID BRUTALLY ASSAULTED IN KUWAIT BY HER EMPLOYERS.

Whenever I read an article about a maid harming a child or children, harming herself, or being beaten by her employer, I ask myself who is at fault? The employer or the worker? Does the blame fall on the employer, the maids, or the governments of each country? I have spoken to many people working in Kuwaiti houses over the years, and found that a great number of them have so many regrets. They feel ashamed of their government, and they feel abandoned. Some feel that they have to make many mistakes, so that the employer will send them back to the labor office or back home, and others are so stressed out that they usually take more drastic measures.Does this sound wrong to you? Should people have to live like this?

These people have rights. They have families waiting for them in their country. They have fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, husbands, and children who depend on them. They come here to earn a little money to send to their families so that their children can get an education. They send money home to take care of their fathers and mothers. What are the job requirements of a maid? They are individuals hired to perform certain duties, such as, house cleaning, washing and ironing, cooking, vacuuming, and child care. Each one is hired for a certain job. Well, that is the way it should be! But. do you know that many of these maids are brought to Kuwait on false pretenses? They are told that they will be working in hospitals, restaurants, beauty salons, schools and other places, but when they arrive to Kuwait, they are employed as nannies or house maids. They are not qualified for these jobs. They, usually, lack experience and many have never operated a washer, dryer, microwave, gas stove, iron, or any electrical appliance, or cared for children. Yet, they are forced to learn these tasks in a very short time.

This is very stressful for a person who has little or no experience in this field of work, and one who has no interest in doing this type of job. Religion says, we should be kind, generous, and treat people the way we would like to be treated. If an individual is hired for a certain job, shouldn’t they work in the field in which they are brought for. Shouldn’t everyone, including our high shot expatriates keep in mind that these individuals are human, too, and show some sympathy towards them?

When we see such cases as highlighted by Mr. Boie Conrad Dublin in Arab Times, what is our reaction? “Forget it, these are Phillipinos, or, they are Tamils, etc, etc,..?” “Why should we bother about some maids, we are here to make money and live comfortably. Kick the cats aside!”Regardless of the work the house workers are hired to do, we must know, like all of us, they need rest, food and plenty of sleep so that they can perform their jobs well. They need training before coming to this country to be employed. If they are hired to work in a hospital, school, or restaurant, then, that is what they should be doing, as long as they have the qualifications. Their rights should be secured, before they leave their country.Take a moment and think about this.

MAID BRUTALLY ASSAULTED IN KUWAIT BY HER EMPLOYERS.

The following news item appeared in Kuwait’s daily “Arab Times” dated 18.08.09. I am reproducing it for our Goans to read and to know what type of cruelty is going on in this society against the poor maids. Our Goan females wishing to come to Kuwait to work as maids must think twice before deciding to come to Kuwait to work as maids.A. Veronica Fernandes,Kuwait. Seen in the picture Philippine Ambassador enquring the condition of the brutally assaulted Philippine maid seated on the chair with her leg in Plaster. The last picture shows her badly bruised back.
