I must say you write very well. However, from whatever i have read, you are a man full of complexes with a hatred of the Goan Bammon Bhatkars. Every caste had good and bad people. but to categorise all goan bamon bhatkars as chors etc is to pass a rash judgement without using much sense. I am sure if you check properly, a lot of the goan bamon bhatkars did a lot of good for the people of goa. so next time think before you write.

I held a new born baby, last week. At two weeks old, the little chap was well wrapped up and bundled in a warm blanket. What was unusual about this baby was his surroundings. We were in a cell in a police station. His mother, a rape victim was in a jail for absconding. Her case highlighted for me some of the challenges that face workers in Kuwait. She does not want to go through the lengthy process of a court case to fight for justice – she simply wants to go home – with the baby.

Giving birth to children outside of wedlock is a crime in Kuwait. Even rape victims are treated as criminals unless proved otherwise. To register a birth in Kuwait requires the father’s identity and a marriage certificate. No father and no marriage certificate means no birth certificate can be issued easily. This means that mother and child spend months in jail. Embassies can help, but they can only respond if the police inform them. In the case above, the little fellow is sharing a small cell with a dozen other women one toilet between them. Supplies are minimal and his diet is unpredictable. We discovered he was regularly fed mineral water. The police though symphatetic were unable to do much. We offered sanctuary, but were told the baby is a ward of state for the time being. Upon contacting the embassyof the rape victim I was told that they had no knowledge of the mother or the baby. They would come they assured me, if the police will call them.

Giving birth to a baby is hard at the best of times, but if you know that your baby is illegal and that a jail sentence is inevitable, I wonder what you would do? For a maid, with little money and opportunity, they often feel that they have no choice but to get rid of the baby as soon as possible without being caught. The result is that babies are born in secret and then abandoned to die.Precise statistics are hard to get.

If a baby is found before it dies, the child is placed in a ward at hospital and officers are made to locate the parents. If after thirty days no parents are found then the baby is placed in an orphanage and given Kuwaiti citizenship. Sometimes they are taken in by local families, but expatriates are not allowed to adopt orphans. Several expatriates have tried to adopt orphan children but have been told outright that this is impossible. While the orphanage is well supplied, no institution can ever be a substitute for a loving family.

Babies are a gift from God. Society is entrusted with their care, regardless of the circumstances of their birth. Illegitimacy and poverty is no harrier to the potential opportunities and achievements of a child. We are forcefully reminded of this by the baby born at Christmas time. Born in a crude stable of questionable parentage, Jesus reminds us of how God identifies with the poor and the weak in our society. His life and work provokes us to once again look at the most vulnerable in our society with care and respect.

48 YEARS OF CORRUPT RULE IN GOA UNDER BHARAT.

Today 19th December 2009 Goa marks the 48th anniversary of its liberation. The word liberation is a misnomer. The correct word should be the “CONQUEST” because according to the landmark judgment delivered by the highest court of India – The Supreme Court – on 19th December 1961 Goa was not liberated from the Portuguese but “Conquered” by Bharat from the Portuguese. Still to go one step further, a highly intellectual son of Goa, Fr. Philip Neri Mendonca, the then Principal of St. Joseph’s High School Arpora, Bardez, Goa, in his capacity as a layman and not as a Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India, stated that “on 19th December 1961, Goa was invaded by Bharat and was not liberated”. Bangladesh was liberated by Bharat and given to the sons and daughters of Bangladesh while Goa was not. Instead Goa was conquered and annexed to Bharat just as what Saddam Hussein did for Kuwait on 2nd August 1990 and annexed it to Iraq converting it into one of Iraq's provinces. Some Goan elders 48 years back said that Goa was “Robbed” from Goans by Nehru’s Congress Party of Bharat. Even some freedom fighters in Goa felt that Bharat should not have annexed Goa to it without consulting Goans. And when I queried one of the Hindu freedom furthers from my village in Candolim who himself has undergone a long term prison snetence at Aguada, said that “WE AS FREEDOM FIGHTERS FROM GOA, ONLY WANTED ASSISTANCE FROM BHARAT TO GET RID OF PORTUGUESE FROM GOA INCLUDING INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST PORTUGUESE RULE IN GOA BUT NEVER TO LEGALISE GOA ILLEGALLY AS PART OF INDIA”.

What would be the fate of Goa if Bharat on 19th December 1961 had not to intervene millitarily in Goa leaving it as it was? Heaven would not fall. On the contrary it would have been a big blessing and booster for Goa and real Goans. A decade after Goa was annexed to Bharat by force, Slazarist regime lost power in Portugal and all its African colonies got independence on silver platter. In the same manner Goa would also get independence for Goans to decide their fate and future for the good of Goans and Goa. Goa had great sons and daughters then to guide and decide its destiny and they would rule Goa in a best possible way of course to the satisfaction of all Goans and not to the satisfaction of all the “Chor” and “Crimidor Ghanttis” and Ghanttised Goans.The last Governador of Goa, Vassalo e Silva was a special appointee for Goa by Salazar who had great love for Goa and Goans. Salazar and his advisers thought in late fifties that something should be done for Goa so that all categories of Goans can become self sufficient and they can rely upon themselves for the development of their Goa. In view of this Salazar appropriately selected Governador Vassalo e Silva for this job in Goa. As a matter of fact, internally Governador Vassalo e Silva was anti-Salazar and anti-Dictator. As a step in right direction, Vassalo e Silva introduced a law in Goa in the late fifties to make Portuguese education compulsory for all Goan children attaining the age of 6 and it was to be imparted Free Of Charge. Till this time I and my other sisters were in English School studying English but because of this law, we were forced out from English School and inducted into Portuguese School otherwise there was a fine (multo) to pay to the tune of hundreds of Escudos (Portugese currency). This law was introduced by Portuguese Government to elevate the educational standard of Goans because it is thru education that makes a person advanced.


Agriculture was given a top priority. In my village saline water entered into our fields and spoiled the whole crop. Governador Silva himself came to check it near our Church, entered the field assisted by my father who was the “de facto” leader of “Xetkar & Zotkar” and walking personally checked the broken “Bandh” which led the saline water from the Sea to enter into the fields. Governador at times talked to my father asking some questions about this saline water and my father being fluent in Portuguese as none among his "Xetkar" tribe answered him well. Then the Governador spoke to the village elders and members of the Communidade and arranged to put things into order with a promise that “I will see to it that no crop is spoiled and wasted”. Similar exercise he did elsewhere in Goa to give a fillip to agriculture and Goan agriculturists.

Then later on Governador came to our Communidade Hall and impressed upon the elders to give top priority for the development of Caju Plantation. We had behind the Church Caju plantation on the big mountainous land of Communidade and as a booster we got free of charge small Caju plants to develop there. This resulted in a big yield for us in our Caju fruits and Caju Nuts. Similar exercise was done elsewhere in Goa too to boost the Caju plantation in Goa, so also for other crops.

Then the same Governador seeing the potential of mining industry in Goa and its improvement issued a Circular to Goans settled outside Goa to come back and get employment in Goa only and in this direction he assured them jobs in mining industry for English educated Goans and in Government sectors for Portuguese educated. Some Goans working in Qatar and Bahrain even left their lucrative jobs in the Oil sectors and returned to Goa where they were absorbed by the Chowgules, Dempo-Souza, Sesa Goa and other companies. Governador Vassalo e Silva made his office accessible to any Goan for any of their needs. He started to mix up with commoners like a common man himself. This was resented by many of the Goan Bamonn aristocrats and Bhattkars but Governador Silva never cared for them.

In 1960 while returning from Aguada, Governador Vassalo e Silva came to our Portuguese School and directly entered in our class and fortunately approached me as if he knew me that I am a commoner and asked me in Portuguese: “Tem Sacola?” I said, “Nao Senhor Governador”. For this he gave me one School Bag. Likewise he did for others also in Marathi Xalla. He was so simple, once I was going to Panjim with my eldest brother for the soccer match. My brother known as “Cheddo” was an ace footballer of Goa Police Soccer Team being the top Goan footballer among the Portuguese “Pakles and Khapris”. When we entered into Ferryboat at Betim, suddenly Governador’s civilian Jeep also entered without any hassle.and external pomp. No battalion of armed guards nor police escort. Simple Governador with one simple driver and one simple guard. He did not even avail of the especial facility for him alone to be in the Ferryboat. During those days only Governador and Patriarch had the privilege for especial Ferryboat service to cross the rivers. When his Jeep parked in the Ferryboat, he immediately got down from his rear seat and gave a very loving and affectionate smile to all. Then again fortunately for me he smilingly approached me and lovingly touched my cheek and said “Senhor Rapaz, come esta?” Then he saw one elderly Hindu woman carrying a Basket full of vegetable to sell it in Panjim, stood in front of her and affectionately said something in Portuguese to her. She was all smiles and happy like me for encountering Governador in this manner.

The Governador vouched that every Goan must have goods and commodities cheaply. Once in 1960 the prices of the goods in Goa mainly in Panjim shot up suddenly especially of eatables. Seeing this, one fine morning dressed as commoner, Governador himself personally went to the market in Panjim and found out how shopkeepers have abruptly increased the prices of the commodities. Then immediately he advised his subordinates to take stringent action against these shopkeepers and immediately the prices were brought down. During his tenure, when he noticed struggle for the ouster of Portuguese from Goa, he even requested the genuine freedom fighters to come and meet him to discuss this subject but none approached him openly and directly. He disliked those freedom fighters for Goa coming from Ghanttar. He said they have no right and authority to talk for and on behalf of Goa and Goans. Even Morarjee Desai as a Chief Minister of Bombay and as a spokesman of Congress said that “only Goans should fight for their Goa and remove Portuguese from their soil”.

In Goa there were 2 types of freedom fighters, one genuine & secular and the others “Chor-Krimidor & communal. The latter section were killing, robbing and troubling innocent Goans and wanted Goa to become a Hindu Raj, they were communal and had hatred for Christians Governador Vassalo e Silva refused to talk to them. Governador wanted to find some sort of peaceful solution for Goa and for this reason he was paving the way for Goans to be prepared for this day either today or tomorrow but surely that day was coming. What Portuguese Governador Antonio Spinola in his book “Portugal e Futuro” in Mocambique predicted in Seventies that Portuguese rule will come to an end in Africa, Governador Vassalo e Silva guessed in 1960 about Goa. For this reason he was preparing Goans to be self sufficient to take over Goa by themselves only.


Governador Vassalo e Silva loved Goa and Goans very much irrespective of their caste and creed. In fact some of the Goans who were very close to him were Goan Hindus, including Dayananda Bandodkar. Sensing this, Nehru as a crook assisted by another Malyali double crook Krishna Menon – the then disgraceful Defence Minister of India created a hostile situation for Portuguese Government in Goa and attacked Goa. The rest was a history which was created on 19th December 1961 without taking consent of Goa based genuine Goans. By the way, even if genuine Goans want to do something, are they in position to do now? And as a matter of fact, are there any genuine Goans living in Goa now to think of the glorious days they spent in Goa?

During Portuguese days, life in Goa was safe for Goans, living standard of Goans was fine, Goans were not sleeping and cooking under the shade of trees like Bharati Ghanttis. Every Goan had a roof over his head unlike innumerable Bharatis. No Goan was producing children on the streets like Bharatis in many parts of Bharat. There was system and discipline everywhere in Goa unlike elsewhere in Bharat. Portuguese Goa had a history of 450 years of best administration while Bharat not, Bharati administration was full of corruption. In Portuguese Goa respect for law and order was very much existing and crime rate was very negligible while elsewhere in Bharat it was total chaos. No Goan houses were fitted with iron grill doors and windows. Our houses were open round the clock, no fear of robbers coming to rob our houses. Most of the Portuguese Pakles were very friendly to Goans and they interacted with Goans very freely. Hindus, Christians and Muslims were living in a very friendly way. There was no communal hatred, as it is in post December 1961, all were living as one Goan homogeneous entity. Common Goan even from the lowest strata of casteist Goan society was given facility to occupy positions in Government and other private sectors. Goans were given high ranks in the Army and Police sectors. If Goans faced any problems and discrimination it was only because of the disgraceful Goan Bhattkars and Bamonn who acted more dictators and brutes than dictators and brutes themselves. During Portuguese time common Goan was harassed not by the Portugese but by the Goan Bamonn Bhatkars.

All members of Hindu, Christian and Muslim communities were treated equally. Hindus occupied some of the top positions in the Government sectors and they only controlled the commerce including mining industry besides other sectors including franchises to import foreign goods. Everybody looked happy in all the fronts except the Portuguese domination which could have been easily eradicated if Bharat had not to send its around 20 thousand well equipped Army marching over my Goa outnumbering only around 5 thousand Portuguese millitary of Goa and finally destroying Goa beyond recognition of its original self.


In 48 years Goa lost so much of its original self, in another few years Goa will be totally mutilated and destroyed unless we have Goan patriots in Goa Legislative Assembly as the last Portuguese Governador Vassalo e Silva. Goa and Goans were more protected, loved and supported by the European Portuguese than the Indian Bharatis. This is the tragedy of Goa we experienced during the last 48 years of Bharati rule in Goa.

In view of above, can we really call Goa a liberated land? Liberated from whom? We are not liberated but dominated more vigorously and more firmly by the corrupt Bharati system which has already taken firm roots in Goa. Bharatis said Goans are free now and equal with others while under Portuguese rule not. Foolish Statement!! During Portuguese regime we were bowing down our heads before white skin of Portuguese while under Bharat we are made to bow down with folded hands before the rascals of Delhi wearing white "khadi" dress. This white colour has made us equal slaves of both the regimes. During the Portuguese regime we had to be at the mercy of Lisbon High Command but under Bharat we had to be the slaves of Delhi High Command inspite of having our own self State Government. What sort of freedom is it that we are enjoying? It is worst than the slavery. And we call it freedom? To hell with this type of freedom.

In this type of freedom, Goa is losing its identity, demographic structure is totally changed in Goa to convert Goans into minority where non-Goans are dominating Goans. Our own chor politicinas and Bamtte politicians are giving Goa on silver platter to non-Goans. This is not the freedom and liberation that we Goans wanted and want. 19th December according to me should be marked as the DAY OF ROBBERY because on this day in 1961 Bharat under the rule of Congress Party headed in the Parliament by crook Nehru robbed Goa and made Goans as orphans. 19th December should be marked as the day of moaning because on this day in 1961 Goan wemen were raped by Indian Army personnel, on this day in 1961 Goan shops were looted of foreign goods by Indian Army personnel. On this day at Calangute Tinto our own Goan brother mercilessly was killed by Bharati Army personnel. On this day in 1961 Bharati Army personnel comitted many illdeed and crimes.

TO HELL WITH THIS LIBERATION WHERE THERE IS ALL ROUND CORRUPTION AND NO LIFE SECURITY. THIS LIBERATION IS GOOD FOR CHORS AND CRIMIDORS and not for good Goans.

CONTRIBUTION OF SENIOR KUWAIT GOANS - III.

Then came the invasion of Kuwait in August 1990 and we had to go back to Goa empty handed. During the invasion period, under my initiative and with the backing of my colleagues especially from KKK and Konkani movement, we formed an organization called ‘GOA-KUWAIT SOLIDARITY CENTER” to raise our voice in support of the liberation of Kuwait and thru this we forced the Indian Government at Delhi to change its stand on the issue of Kuwait. Our voice from Goa was heard in Delhi and Government of India openly sided with Kuwait cause. We raised our voice from Goa by organising Rallies, Public Meetings and Press campaign. Because of this movement Kuwaitis liked Goans very much.

While we formed G-KSC, Kuwait Goans of dubious character formed one more association known as “KUWAIT GOAN EVACUEES SOCEITY”. After the liberation of Kuwait, a team of few members of KGES by using Edwuardo Faleiro’s influence in Delhi went and met Kuwaiti Ambassador in Delhi. After returning from Delhi, thru Press report they said they are authorized to collect bio data of all Kuwait Goan evacuees to return to Kuwait. For this, KGES charged every applicant Indian Rupees 50/-. Since thousands of Kuwait Goan Evacuees filled these forms, the money collected thus turned out to be lakhs and lakhs. And finally where it went and how much the final total came? It remained a total secret. One of the persons involved in this chicanery is still in Kuwait. Goans should be careful of this “Chor” who is well versed in cheating the community members. To trust any fund into his hands means entrusting your fund into the hands of a “BIG CHOR”. He is the most shameless Goan in Kuwait. He does not care for his self respect, he lost all his decency, credibility and dignity. He is acting like a prostitute. He is turned out to be a thick skinned man like a “Genno”. And those who associate and support him are become like “GHANTTA BOIL”. These “Ghantta Boil” will even dole their wives to this “Chor” who is in the process of robbing the community fund.

Then with the initiative of Fr. Gabriel and with my cooperation, 10 years back KONKANI HERITAGE KUWAIT” was formed to uphold the cause of Konkani and to help the repatriation of Konkani maids housed at Indian Embassy’s Safe House. In this way KHK helped humanitarian cause more.

GOAN WELFARE SOCIETY was formed in mid eighties with the initiative of Vincente D’Souza. When it was initiated, it was decided to make it as an apex body like that of Malyalis UMO. It was also decided to engulf in its fold more and more Goans and in this direction I myself registered so many new members. But unfortunately, after the liberation of Kuwait when it was restarted, I myself was not informed, not only me but also all my colleagues. Unfortunately, none of the members debated on this, neither from the present nor from those who left or dismissed. In this way, can they protect the interest of Goan community? This shows the caliber of these people to fight for justice.

When it was decided to form this organization it was our motto and especially of mine to raise funds for helping any needy Goan. In one room at old Indian Embassy where we were sitting to draft the constitution, I said that thru the funds we are going to raise we should see that none in our community among the poor should suffer because of financial problem. Our motto was to help the needy Goans in Kuwait and not to invest in Goa and not to build castles elsewhere or in Canada and not to keep the money for “pujek” into the personal account of individual members which is nothing but a crime. The fund collected thru the contribution and participation of community members should be spent for the good of community members irrespective to their affiliation or membership to GWS. This Society came into being to promote the welfare of the community. People’s money collected with the assistance of people should be spent for the welfare of the people, this was our motto in the beginning and with this motto we came forward to form this association which was rightly named as GOAN WELFARE SOCIETY.

By the way, Goans before the introduction of Direct Flight from Kuwait to Goa and back, were facing lot of problems. In order to eradicate this problem, in early eighties Kuwait Goan Association under the presidency of Vincente D’Souza started the campaign for the direct flight. Then Gukf Goans Hotels Co. tried its hand. Then with the backing of Dr. Willy in Goa, Avertano Furtado got himself involved and later on I too got involved. Under my skippership one Tiatro was staged at Kuwait Church Hall to raise funds for this process, all the tiatrists acted free of charge and this Tiatro was staged by Wincy. Other Goans also joined to support this move and finally we got direct flight. Now instead of one original we got more direct flights to Goa thanks to the base we put in earlier.

After reading the above, one will notice that all the above associations and movements were formed by senior and pro-Goa, pro-Goan and pro-Konkani members of Goan community residing in Kuwait. All the above associations were formed by Goans holding only Indian Passports and not by those holding dual Passports. By the way, is it right for us as Indian citizens to allow our affairs into the hands of Goans holding non-Indian Passports? With the exception of KHK, all these associations were formed before the invasion of Kuwait by the senior and elderly Goans. Now, the question comes: What have the fresh, junior and new comer Goans done for Goa, Goans and Konkani? What is the contribution of Goans who first time landed in Kuwait after the liberation of Kuwait for the cause of Goa and Goans in Kuwait? To split the existing associations and thereby bring about disunity in the community? To form associations to boycott few selected Goans as some Kuwait based Tiatris did? Can we expect anything worthwhile for the cause of Goa and Goans from the latest Goan arrivals in Kuwait? Are they by the way really interested in Goa and Goan causes or they are interested in migrating to the West from Kuwait? As for me, I don’t see any from the latest arrival Goans to do anything good for the cause of our community. In them I see nothing but darkness and selfishness. Their motto is APUN APNANK ANI DEV SOMESTANK”.

CONTRIBUTION OF SENIOR KUWAIT GOANS - II.

PART – II.
Then I entered into the scene and with the help of my likeminded colleagues and supporters I started Konkani movement for the first time in Kuwait, in the Gulf and in the expatriate world as well. The response of Kuwaitkars was excellent. With my initiative and cooperation of Alexandre M. Fernandes, A.B. Fernades, Estanislaus Alemao, John Felix D’Souza and many others but none from the current so called Goan leaders, we formed Novem Goem Pratishthan Kuwait Somiti to raise funds for the establishment of people’s Konkani Daily Newspaper “NOVEM GOEM” in Goa, in Roman and Nagri scripts. This organization was formed only for a fixed period and after fulfilling its purpose it was closed down. Before embarking on this association, I requested Vincente D’Souza to take up this issue of Novem Goem under KGA since it is a Goan association and as such it must work for the cause of Goa. I even volunteered to give my and my associates full support but Vincente D’Souza refused thinking like many bastardised Goans that Konkani issue is that of hoi-polloi Goykars and not of educated and elite Goans.

There was an impression at that time into the minds of semi educated Goans that Konkani issue is meant only for uneducated and illiterate people. But I and all my colleagues proved to them otherwise because I am not an uneducated and not an illiterate person, like me my colleagues in Konkani movement had similar intellectual status otherwise it was not possible to work for the cause of Konkani. Because of the establishment of Konkani movement in Kuwait, lot of pressure came on anti-Goan Governments in Goa leading finally to the recognition of Konkani and granting of statehood to Goa.

Thru the financial force of Kuwait Goans, our brothers and sisters in Goa increased the magnitude of Konkani movement in Goa forcing anti-Konkani Rane Government into submission to our demands. During the Konkani agitation in Goa, I personally went to Goa and on behalf of all the likeminded Kuwait Goans participated in the Konkani Rallies, Meetings and even participated in Hunger Strike at Azad Maidan, Panaji.

Then again under the initiative and leadership of Vincente D’Souza, in 1979 GULF GOANS HOTELS COMPANY was formed by a group of Kuwait Goans, I was one of them. We built our “A” Grade Hotel at Calangute Gauravaddo, “HOTEL GAON HERITAGE” which is running well and employing Goans there. Kuwait Goans are the Share holders in this company. Vincente D’Souza can be called the father of this project but Wilson Coelho at the later stage played an excellent role thru his personal influence with the authorities concerned to get okay for the construction of this project. Because of this project many of the Goans are getting employment there and because of this employment many of the Goan families are getting their livelihood.

Then under the leadership of UNITED GOANS FOOTBALL CENTER, in 1979 competitive soccer activities were initiated at Sour Grounds for our young boys many of whom were otherwise wasting their time in doing unwanted things.. Along with others, I too took active part in its promotion though the major credit for this initiative should go to Custodio Crasto from Navelim, Diogo Gomes from Bastora, Tony Gonsalves from Divar, Joe F.X. D’Souza from Assagao, Antonio Lawrence from Siolim, Joe Fernandes from Colva and thers. All of them were the backbone of UGFC. Because of this bold step of UG, till today our soccer activities are going on in Kuwait. The seed that was sown in 1979 by UG is flourished now for everyone to enjoy its fruits.

Then later on we formed KUWAIT INDIAN FOOTBALL FEDERATION to centralize all our soccer activities under one roof. Under KIFF lot of discipline and system came into being. The late international referee Mr. J.P. D’Mello played a very good role to initiate the KIFF and persons like me worked very hard to lay a strong foundation to KIFF. Fittingly KIFF has named its League after J.P. D’Mello as JP D’Mello Memorial League. Memorial tournaments are organized in memory of the persons who have contributed for the promotion of soccer during their lifetime. KIFF in recognizing JP D’Mello’s contribution in the promotion of our soccer rightly acknowledged his work in the field of soccer he did during his lifetime. It was done to pay respect for what he did in the field of soccer during his lifetie and not to apply “Mosko” for the family members of JP.

Then in 1984 to keep the momentum of Konkani movement pushing further, again under my initiative another Goan association KUWAIT KONKNNI KENDR was established to aid Konkani cause in Goa and to promote Konkani actitivities in Kuwait. Thru KKK lot of financial aid was provided to lot of Konkani activities not only in Goa but also in Mangalore for Mandd Sobhan. The major contribution went for Novem Goem during its last stage and also to Konkani Martys Fund in Goa, Mando Festivals, Dalgado Konkani Academy, Stephens Konknni Kendre Miramar/Porvorim and to many other associations. Mando culture and Mando Festivals were introduced in Kuwait by KKK besides other activities such Konkani Operattas etc. Konkani culture and Konkani language was implanted for the first time in 5 Star Hotels in Kuwait by KKK.

CONTRIBUTION OF SENIOR KUWAIT GOANS - I.

I am a long timer in Kuwait. When I first landed in Kuwait, members of our community were hungry to do anything for the cause of Goa, Goans and Konkani. The early Goans academically were less educated but more wisdomatic. They were matured enough to think of Goa though there were plenty among them who were crooks and selfish. Many of them are no more in Kuwait but a few of them are still rotting in Kuwait thereby burdening the woes of the community. Being hungry for doing something for Goans and unifying Goans in Kuwait in one way or the other, in late fifties Goans working at Oil Sector Ahmadi, mainly at Kuwait Oil Company, formed the first Goan association known as “GOAN ASSOCIATION” Ahmadi.

The membership in this association was drawn mainly from Goans working in Ahmadi especially at KOC. The purpose of this association is just for merry making like organising dances on certain occasions like X’Mas – New Year and Easter. Actually other than this, Goan Association, Ahmadi did nothing for Goa and Goans though they managed at least to bring some Goans under one umbrella. In the name of socializing, Goans gathered together in some form under Goan Association, Ahmadi.

In mid sixties, under the leadership of Armando Carvalho, a Kuwaiti city resident with the cooperation of Vincente D’Souza formed another Goan association known as KUWAIT GOAN ASSOCIATION to organize social functions on the pattern of Goan Association, Ahmadi. KGA involved in its fold Goans residing in Kuwait city and also in surrounding areas. While KGA under Vincente D’Souza flourished especially after Armando Carvalho’s exit, GA, Ahmadi slowly died an automatic death due to the absence of former heavyweight Goans who were retired from KOC due to the Kuwaitisation process. Again this KGA united Goans every year at least twice by organising socials in Shuwaikh Modern Restaurant and in 5 Star Hotels. During those days joining in socials organized by KGA means big thing because ordinary person was getting an opportunity to step in elite hotels. Vincente D’Dousa was using his brain to woo the people for such occasions by capturing their psychological deformity because of their ancestral inferiority complex. For an ordinary Kuwait Goan of Ladru Pedru type in Goa entering in a five star hotel means entering White House.

Kuwait Goan Association and especially thru its president Vincente D’Souza, Goan community was made known to the outside world in Kuwait. In fact Vincente D’Souza was the first Kuwait Goan to intenrationalise Goans from Kuwait. Being a free-lance journalist and also an accredited, thru his writings he raised many issues of the community and found solutions for same. His immense contribution for the cause of Goans, in Kuwait especially, should be applauded.

Then in early seventies under the leadership of Vincente D’Souza again, another Goan association was formed known as GOAN ARTS CIRCLE, Alexander M. Fernandes was one of the pillars of this association. This association was formed to raise funds for the cause of Goa Cancer Hospital and one Tiatro was also organized under this association to raise funds for Cancer Hospital. This Tiatro was of Alexinho de Maxem and it was held at Keefan Hall in 1976. Though it lasted for a short period and died a slow but natural death yet it served the cause of Goa in one way or the other.

New DVD "SEE YOU AGAIN" By Mathew Araujo.

ON GWS'S HIDDEN FUND.

Viva Kranti for exposing once again the irrigularities committed by members of Goan Welfare Society. I have time again said that the Indian Embassy can play an important role in this matter. The Embassy can demand accountability from the President of GWS and its members as theyare community funds stashed in private bank accounts of the GWS president and others.

I am surprised that the Embassy has not acted on the matter thus far despite several discussions in this forum. I, on behalf of our Goan community, once again earnestly ask the Embassy to look into the funds issue before it is too late. The GWS president is still in Kuwait and so he can be hauled up.

What I would suggest is that the Embassy should summon leaders of the Goan organisations and discuss how to go about salvaging the hidden funds. I also request our Goan organisations to join hands with one another for a cause and I hope Kranti will not rest until the funds are brought back. Only KRANTI AND KRANTI alone can bring about the revolution and I am beginning to see winds of change blowing in the direction of GWS. Keep up the good work. Dev Borem Korum.

PRAY FOR THE SAFETY OF GWS FUND.

Today, GWS is organising a Thanksgiving Mass in Kuwait City at Holy Family Cathedral as per the announcement in this forum. While attendending the Mass, I request the faithfuls to pray for the security of the huge fund kept separately in the personal account of three members, as per the information. It is very risky to keep such a big fund in the personal account of the members, whoever they may be. It is not correct on the part of the educated members to allow such mistakes in their organisation. Educated members if they are really educated in the real sense of education will not allow society’s fund to be in the personal account of individuals. By the way, is constitution allows such happenings? If not, how it is allowed to happen and under what clause of the constitution? Educated members are responsible to justify this act.

When adoring St. Francis Xavier, we must follow the principles and teachings of St. Francis Xavier who has not done such mistakes and who will never accept such irregularities and on top of it to commit such mistakes is against His doctrine. Discarding the teachings of St. Francis Xavier and also adoring Him is like making mockery of this great Saint.

GWS is a Goan society and just because I am not an active member of this association does not mean that I have no right to voice my opinion. Nobody can stop me from voicing my opinion especially a person who is full of disgrace in the community. I cannot be a silent spectator to the thievery and chicanery happening in my community below my eyes. I was the founder member of GWS and at the time of its restarting after the liberation of Kuwait, like me many were not even informed and without our participation GWS was restarted. I have all the rights to be concerned of what is happening to the funds of GWS as I was also instrumental in the beginning to help accumulate this fund.

GWS is not a private company to close its door to fresh members. It is a community association as such its door should be kept open for any new entrant Goan. It was formed to help the needy Gons and for this reason it was named as “WELFARE”. Educated members must show their educational caliber now by opposing the injustice going on there, otherwise to hell with their education and degrees and degrees. In order to eradicate the voice of opposition, some founder members were not informed at the time of restarting of the Society. Adoring Goemcho Saib, offering Thanksgiving Mass for Him and closing the door of GWS to new entrant Goans is insulting Goemcho Saib who has done so much for Goa and Goan causes. The money belonging to the organization – as per the doctrine of Goemcho Saib must go to the account of the organization however small or big that amount may be; either 30 thousand KD or 3 thousand KD or documents. Give unto God what belongs to God and to Caesar what belongs to him. With holding money or any other asset from any organization is like a robbery, such robberies are against the principles of St. Francis Xavier and of Christianity.

GWS was initiated by Vincente D’Souza and I supported him in this venture but the very person who was opposing Vincente D’Souza in the formation of this organisation is acting like a lord now. He should be thankful to Vincente D’Souza. When Kuwait Goan Association was in full swing this very person was calling Vincente D’Souza a “Chor” but now he himself is turning out to be a BIG “CHOR”. It is surprising how all others are giving allegiance to him and thereby becoming partners in the crime. Are there no upright brains in the community to fight injustice? Where are the Goans boasting of their big - big educational and professional degrees gone now? Where are the Goans who are boasting of their big posts with big salaries gone now? Why they are silent now?

My concern for this fund is this, that is, it should not happen to what has already happened to Kuwait Goans Evacuees Society’s funds in Goa. Money in lakhs of rupees was collected from Kuwait Goan Evacuees in Goa after the liberation of Kuwait to fill the forms to take them back to Kuwait. (This was done in the name of His Excellency when traitors went to Delhi to gain cheap prominence). After this none from those who filled these forms were sent to Kuwait and till today the huge fund in such a manner collected nobody knows where it was gone. But according to information available at that time, the entire fund was spent to print Election Posters of Eduardo Faleiro. There is a saying in Konkani “FULU FUSTAR FOZNE MARLE” or "MEZAVOILEM KELLEM KADDUN SAGUAD ZODDLI". As a gratitude, did Eduardo Faleiro doled one of the NRI awards to one Chor who was involved in misusing the funds of Kuwait Goan Evacuees? When any fund is entrusted with such a person, there is a possibility for such funds to disappear. Hence, it is imperative to pray for the protection of Kuwait funds otherwise it may disappear the way Kuwait Goan Evacuees fund has disappeared without anybody’s knowledge. Every member of Goan community is bound to protect this Kuwait fund, whether he/she is a member of the Society or not. We want to stop irregularities in our midst.

Many people are asking me to send my writings on this topic to Indian Ambassador. Those who are advising me they themselves can do it. Otherwise, give the email address of the Ambassador I will publish it in this forum for any person to do the needful. Let Ambassador know for sure what type of person is holding the reins of our community and let His Excellency judge our leaders.

A very nice review about the Tiatr Fraternity in Kuwait, however, it would have been nice if you had remembered late V.X. De Orda, a most prominent Tiatrist of those days in Kuwait. He hails from Orda, Candolim and I am sure you definitely know him, for he not only performed Tiatrs in Orda Candolim, but staged and acted in several of them in Kuwait.
