DR. LUIS PROTO BARBOSA AS I KNEW HIM. By Aires Rodrigues.

DR LUIS PROTO BARBOSA AS I KNEW HIM.
By Aires Rodrigues.

In the death of Dr. Luis Proto Barbosa the State of Goa has lost agregarious, outspoken and a great Goan. He was a rather naïve politician who led a very simple, modest and humble life. A very passionate and fiery speaker, he always dared to speak what he felt was right.

In 1990 he was cajoled and lured into becoming the Chief Minister of the ill-fated Progressive Democratic Front government by a group of scheming politicians with vested interests in creating a “political kichddi”. That was the beginning of Goa’s doom. Those eight months as Chief Minister from 14th April 1990 to 14th December 1990 must have been a nightmare for Dr Barbosa, keeping in check the greedy bunch of cabinet colleagues and all the while maintaining his good humour. He must have had a relaxed and enjoyable Christmas that year being relieved of that Chair of thorns he was made to sit on.

The architects of that PDF government used Dr Barbosa as a tool towards their devious plans. It became an unmanageable coalition as the interests of Goa and Goans was not their goal. Moving into the official bungalow at Althinho as Chief Minister, Dr.Barbosa knew that his departure was imminent and he always joked that having come with just a suitcase, he was ready to leave at any time.

Dr Barbosa belonged to a genre of politicians with qualities of head and heart who cannot survive in today’s politics. Today a politician has to be thick skinned and a hypocrite to the core. He has to be ready to break and bend all rules to survive just as is being done by current Chief Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat. Politics today is no longer a mission, not even an honest profession. It has today been reduced to a scoundrel’s last resort. It has become a ruthless business, with morals and ethics twisted beyond recognition, thrown to the winds or long buried deep in the slush of ignorance and thuggery.

I was privileged to have personally known the great man that Dr LuisProto Barbosa was. Always outspoken and one who was not known to mince words in what he had to say and convey.

A few of Dr Barbosa’s tribe of politicians remain and will be remembered for the good they have done for Goa. About the rest and in particular the current bunch of politicians who have been leading and steering Goa down the gutters there will be no obituary to write. Posterity will never forgive them for their selfish role in the irreparable damage and destruction of what was once known as beautiful Goa, the Paradise of the East.

At the age of 82 Dr Barbosa must have been a sad man to witness the rampant destruction and devastation of Goa, in particular over the last seven years. While bidding farewell to the former Chief Ministerof Goa, I am consoled by the fact that he has been spared the further painful and agonizing experience of witnessing Goa’s fateful remains being officially laid to rest.

ON MOTHER'S DAY TIATRO.

With reference to your short and sweet review in goa-kranti on 05.10.11, on Mother's Day Tiatr, I compliment A. Veronica Fernandes by speaking out the truth as usual. Drama story was really good as described by A. Veronica but comedy part was horrible and really "Burxi". Removing skirt and blouse and showing almost naked bodies on the stage is not Tiatr comedy, it is vulgarity which I hate.

People come to watch decency in the tiatr and not vulgarity. Comedian Bacchan was a disgrace on the fair name of original Bacchan who play very decent roles in the film. Just because few vulgarity loving people in the hall laughing for such cheap comedy that does not mean everyone in the hall likes it. Milagres de Chandor must put an end to such vulgarity in his next tiatr otherwise decent people will not come to see his next tiatr again.

The contractors and organisers of the show must try to tell the director to behave decent because this is Kuwait and not Goa.

Veronica, once again I compliment you for writing factually and truthfully as you are known for without caring for anything. Maintain the same attitude, there is nobody among us to shake you. Your journalism is very bold not seen in others. Because of this your wrtings on any subject is liked by the readers except a few of your detractors who are suffering from inferiority complex and brain cells defficiency to accept the truth.

After reading your review in goa-kranti, some people became furious as if they are authority on tiatro, a few of them not even attended the tiatro and commented on your review. Such people are either drunk or mentally sick.

Regards,
EK TIATRO MOGI,
Kuwait.
