One of the greatest
sensations of Konkani Stage today is none other than Salvador Silveira from
Calangute, Bardez, Goa. Besides being a
Tiatrist of very high caliber having abundant talent of writing and
directing good Tiatros and also
composing and singing finest songs, he is a strong proponent of modern day
Zagor in a changed fashion giving a very
decent outlook of Zagor thus attracting lot of audience from elite background. His
Zagors attract innumerable people from every segment of Goan society especially
the young and the modern generation. All
his Zagors are staged in his village Calangute, not only yearly once but even
twice and thrice.
As a Tiatrist, he acted
in Tiatro when he was just 10 in his locality when he took part in his school
Tiatro. At 15 he started composing and
singing his own songs. “PAPI SAMAZ” was his first Tiatro he staged in 1986. In all he wrote 6 Tiatros and
all were staged in his village Calangute and for charitable causes. As a
singer and Tiatrist, he acted in over 100 Tiatros along with most of the top
artistes namely Alfred and Rita Rose, Ophelia Cabral, Phiomena Braz, Titta
Pretto and others, both in Goa as well as in Bombay. As a composer, he composed over 500 songs, some
of which were given to others to sing.
According to my
observation, he is easily the fastest composer of songs and as such I can rightly
call him the JET SPEED COMPOSER OF KONKANI SONGS. If anyone wants to check
this, please have an open contest and prove me wrong.
To keep his art for
posterity, he produced 8 Konkani Song Albums, 4 VCD’s and 4 CD’s and as per the feed-back, all
are liked by the people. Besides he helped many producers in composing songs
for their Tiatros as well as for their Albums.
My admiration goes for
Salvador Silveira more because of his contribution in the development and
promotion of ZAGOR which he stages regularly in his village, Calangute at different
locations. The importance of his Zagors is this that he introduced lot of
innovations in his Zagors. In his Zagors
you see some of the participating artistes are elite and educationally
qualified even graduates. Some of the
females participating in his Zagors are graduates too and with sophisticate
background. In his Zagors you will not
easily see vulgarity in action nor in words as it was known in earlier days. The songs rendered in his Zagors are of very
high standard, all these songs are composed by him only. And the musical score provided in his
Zagors is of very high standard. This music
consists of Gumott, Madyem and Kanxaem played by the seasoned musicans whom
Salvador Silveira guides and directs.
His next Zagor is scheduled
on 5th of May this year at Calangute
which is going to be a great success in performance wise as well as
audience wise. Within the last three months Salvador staging three Zagors means
a great job deserving highest compliments.
In Goa, there are so
many organizations to promote and to award the promoters of Konkani cultural
art but it is surprising to note that up to now no organization came forward to
recognize Salvador Silveira’s contribution to Tiatro and Zagor Art. It is time now to recognize his immense
contribution in the promotion of Tiatro and Zagor Art.
