TIATRO “NOVO DIS UDETANAM….”
On Thursday, 3rd
of this month, I saw the first show of the new Tiatro “NOVO DIS UDETANA” by
comedian Joana, in Panjim at Kala Academy A/c Hall, starting at 7.55 instead of
at 7.15 thus putting many attendees into inconvenience for being late to go
home especially when it was raining. Directos in future should try to adhere to the
given timing and avoid taking the audience for granted.
Comedian Joana sings her solo.
This Tiatro was attended by a good number of
audience though it was not a full house. Since it was the first show, the
artistes at least some of them looked not ready in doing their home work well
as it was seen in their jittery roles.
The story was good and worth admiring especially in context with the
religious teachings where the director easily surpassed the role of the Church
and Priests. To give a gist of the story, it revolves around family discipline
at home and also to the society to remember God “Novo Dis Udetana”.
Mario Menezes & Juzu sing their duo.
The major and important role in this Tiatro was magnificently
played by Juzu as patriarch of the family who was well assisted by veteran
Sabina as his wife. The others who played their roles well deserving their
mention were Mario Menezes, Rosy Alvares and all the three comedians, namely
Joana, Agostinho and Selvy.
Saby de Divar sings his solo.
Though story wise it
was a good Tiatro yet it did not reach to its pedestal as it looked more like a
drab affair. There was unnecessary screaming and shouting, even while singing
there was no serenity in their voices. It did not reach to the level of our earlier
days Tiatros where one could easily feel the charm and thrill.
The concluding scene of the Play.
In the Sideshow songs,
the first song of the show, a solo by Joana was good but it could have been
more attractive if she had to do a fine tuning of her hard voice otherwise she
looked very majestic with her attractive personality wearing a beautiful red
Saree. Mario Menezes duo with Juzu was well rendered but with melodious voice it could have been better. Felix de Divar
rendered his solo well so too Lawry Travasso. The song Rosy Alvares rendered
along with her young colleague was beautiful.

Since this was the first
show, I hope the director will make efforts to bring it to much higher level in
the next performances.
