TIATRO "CITIZEN" BY MORJIM GROUP.

These days at Kala Academy Hall, Panjim, Tiatro competition is going on where from the huge attendance seen almost for every Tiatro which gives something or more than something very interesting for the attendees to carry home.  From what I have seen so far, I found most of the Tiatros in this competition are of much – much higher standard in all respects than the overwhelming number of our commercial Tiatros staged by the professional Tiatrists many of whom are still raw in this art especially the third grade vulgar comedians who are a disgrace not only on our Tiatros but more than that on our language Konkani and Goa which we are many times boasting as Saibachem Goem. If our Goem is really Saibachm Goem then we would not commit sinful act by displaying vulgarity in our performances.

The greatest sickness of the commercial Tiatros is the Cancer of Vulgarity displayed in words and deeds too by a few of the Bastardised comedians who are all out to finish this great art of Tiatro from the Stage.  I saw so many times some of the regular goers for Tiatros many times when vulgarity raises its head on the stage then they, especially the decent families get up from their chairs and just walk out of the hall and never to return again.  The effect of this brutality is such that many regular Tiatro goers told me that because of the vulgarity introduced in our Tiatros surprisingly even by the supposed to be dignified directors, have put a full stop to see Tiatros.

But in this competition you don’t find such vulgarity thank God for this.  Since there was not a single vulgar comedian nor any vulgarity promoter director, the competition Tiatro are going strong day by day.

Among the Tiatros in this competition so far I saw, the Tiatro “CITIZEN” staged by "Machi Mogi  Morjim Cultural Sanscrutic Saunstha, Morjim", I found better than other Tiatros in all respects, such as script, acting, Music, Side Show Songs and   direction. The Morjimkars deserve compliments for this efficiency especially Alexinho de Morjim who I was given to understand was the brain behind this Tiatro.

The story revolves around Ophelia de Arambol who played the magnificent role of an upright Dpty. Collector and as her beloved father the role played by Cyril was equally magnificent.  The role of a Marathi servant by Lorna was of high grade. The high grade Kid Boxerian type of comedy, very witty, played by Alexinho de Morjim entertained the house full crowd beautifully.

In the Side  Show songs,  almost every singer rendered his/her song well including the two tiny boys Frenwyn  & Jone, Opening solo by Peter de Arambol, a duo by Lobo brothers – Hendry & Richard and Duet by  shining singing star Bushan and her husband Lajja.

TIATRO "PEDRO PORTUGUEZ" BY ANTHONY SYLVESTYER.

Written and directed by Anthony Sylvester the Tiatro “Pedro Portuguez’,  I SAW on 23^rd of this month at Panjim Kala Academy Hall starting at 7.45 PM with an attendance  of  over  75% of Hall capacity.

The tiatro was well performed by all the participating artistes  among whom Wilson Mazarello a seasoned artiste appropriately played the stellar role as PEDRO PORTUGUEZ with flawless Portuguez expressions.  Earlier his role as a small young boy without father and mother who were both killed during the forcible annexation of Goa by the rulers of “Ghanttianchem Raj” with their mighty Millitary power which was within a short time turned into A BIG ZERO by the Chinese, was played by Jone Cristo Alphonso who while pleading for a shelter protection for him from a Goan family, makes many among the audience cry.

The roles of Sarpanch and Talathi played by Tony de Ribandar and veteran Clara respectively and who herself was fluent in Portuguese as seen from her expressions, played their roles well indicating their typical Goan way of extorting bribe from the locals.  Thru this disclosure they have once again disgraced the Panchayat and mainly  those  rascal Sarpanches  and Panch members who are shamelessly by forgetting their self respect and dignity extorting bribe for approving certain  documents.

During those chaotic days of Goans when from 19-12-61 the mighty Indian Millitary marched over my sacred and virgin land called Goa which was known to produce great sages and intellectuals and other greats  like World renown Hypnotist Abe Faria, the Catholic Priestly class of revolutionaries and my neighbours who are known as Pinto revolutionaries and who being Priests tried to overthrow the Portuguese but unfortunately caught just when their revolution was about to start.

The play was surrounded around three brothers one was a sort of adopted that is Portugueze  who is kown as Pedro Portuguez and the other two whose roles beautifully played by the genuine brothers Comedian Domnick and Comedian Luis Bachan, the former tried to push his adopted brother out of their house and sell their ancestral beautiful house for the non-Goan builder for the love of money. This proposal Pedro Portuguez objects and finally all the three brothers agree not to part with thir house.  Pedro Portuguez played a sterling role in impressing upon not only his brother but even to others never to give or sell their ancestral houses to the outsiders.  It is a pity even the portuguez indicated their patriotism and love for Goa but NOT OUR GOANS.

Then Pedro Portuguez opts to leave Goa  with a very heavy heart for Portugal with a firm promise to help any Goykar in distress in Portugal.

Sharon played a good role of the wife of one of the brothers, her role to calm down the hot temper existing among the brothers was to be appreciated. Besides. Her “Cantos” which she delivered with her mellifluent voice are to be highly appreciated.

The comedy part was very well played by Bachan assisted by Fatima especially when she plays the role of a “Dukornkan” selling liquor. Comedian Joana too played her role in furthering the comedy by acting as a old timer advocate.

The  Side Show songs were good but especial mention must be made to the solos of Marcus Vaz, Tony de Ribndar, Anthony San, the opening Chorus rendered by all the 4 singers as indicated in the photo No. 2,  the Duets of Wilson & Sharon Mazarello and that of Bushans – the style and the confidence  Bushan indicates while singing is really to be applauded and I do applaud her.

As a whole, the Tiatro was well staged and the director whom I know since a long time now as a great lover and promoter of Tiatro did his job well. I salute his direction and control over what was spoken and sung on the Stage because there was no duble meaning statement nor vulgarity mouthed by the comedians. This was the rare opportunity for the audience to see the Vulgarity Free Tiatro.

TIATRO "FUDDARACHE DIVE" BY ULHAS TARI.

With an excellent cast and excellent Side-Show Songs with a good story and with an excellent number of audience,  the excellently well-known Tiatrist Ulhas Tari staged his new Tiatro “Fuddarache Dive” on 16.9.18 at Panjim  Kala Academy Hall.

The story is based on family affairs where the eldest brother plays a pivotal role in keeping the homogeneity of the entire family intact but because of the last daughter- in- law, there appeared a split in the family.

The role played by Samenca as the last daughter-in-law, a divisive woman was excellent even though she was absent on the Stage for a long time but incidentally she acquired more beauty to her already “Paklinish” beauty.

Roma as a mother played her role well to keep the family intact, so also Antonette de Maina as one of the daughters-in-law.  However the best roles  were played by the director Tari and Cajetan de Cacoda as brothers.  Franky did his part well as an aggressive brother responsible for the fights in the family.

The comedy part was handled by Richard, Brian, Ambe, Sally & Dorothy.

In the Side-Show songs, one of the patriarchs of the Konkani Stage Roseferns stole the show by rendering the most wisdomatic solo on flood in Kerala and cautioning Goans not to touch the nature. This was the most beautiful song of the evening.

Some of the other songs to be highlighted here are the solos of Francis de Tuem, Xavier Gomes, Marcus Vaz, Roma, Cajetan de Cacoda;  Trio of Xavier-Marcus-Lawry:  Quarter of Marcus-Lawry-Francis de Tuem - Xavier; Duo of Peter de Benaulim & Cajetan de Cacoda; Duet of Tony de Ribandar with Antonette de Maina. This being the political song, Antonette de Maina while singing indicated all the attributes required for the political singer and thus hinting another Queen of political songs is in the making.

BJP - PARRICAR & MESS IN GOA.

The trickling of the news regarding the unseating of Parricar from the throne of Chief Ministership will be the meeting with justice.  I am a religious man believing in God’s justice and I am happy that Devine justice is under process in which Parricar will be taught a very good lesson of “sword beget sword”. Additionally his other two cabinet colleagues namely Francis D’Souza and Madkaicar are also on the verge of learning similar type of lesson.  Madcaicar wanted to be an expert in the sin of Narvenkarism for this reason he jaunted to  Mumbai to spend easily accumulated money by looting the people. Moreover, he had such a high arrogant ambition to challenge the power of God that he wanted to build another Tower of Babel in Old Goa closer to the Old Goa Religious Monuments.

Stupid is he because he forgot to accept the fact that those who failed to build the original Tower of Babel were the people who wanted to challenge God and since there is no power on this earth to challenge God’s power, the imminent result is defeat.

And Francis D’souza without having any shame put Christianity into scum by calling himself a Hindu Christian to please BJP top bras but it did not fetch him the expected dividend. By blindly siding with the devils and enemies of Christianity he inflicted heavy pain on Christians and in the bargain he must have acquired lot of wealth but poor thing he cannot get the peace and happiness to enjoy the benefit of the same wealth. Such wealth is nothing but a curse which will not keep you happy.

Generally speaking what has happened to BJP in Goa with Parricar at the helm of affairs was the punishment of God for robbing the Congress of  its clear victory which was fair and clear.  And inspite of this that Congress was sidetracked means what a Hitlerian “dadagiri” of BJP which can, if not halted now only, even thru legal means, it can reach to any extent, even beyond Indira Gandhi’s draconian Emergency.

The way the governing system is functioning in Goa now it looks BJP is owning Goa and Goans and they can do anything in Goa and nobody can question them.  Parricar is thinking that he is Salazar and he is inevitable, without him nothing will move in Goa. All bullshit.  Even if he dies tonight nothing will happen, it will go unnoticed, his death will be a mild blow only to his close family members and few of his chamchas. His death will have no impact on Goa, neither on his Party anywhere in india. He is a coward and because of this he is afraid to resign.

COMPETITION TIATRO " I LOVE YOU" BY MATHIAS MASCARENHAS .

On 11^th of this month at 7.00 PM in Panjim at Kala Academy A/C Hall, I saw the competition tiatro “ I love you” written and directed by the well known musician and script writer from Calangute, Mathias Mascarenhas. It was very well attended by the audience overwhelming majority from Calangute since this Tiatro is staged on behalf of Calangute Association and sponsored by 5 organisations  and 12 individuals.

Mathias Mascarenhas is a  name and fame not only in Calangute but all over Goa in this particular field winning prizes  in the competitions too. In this Tiatro he failed to make maximum use of maximum number of best of available local artistes whose entry in this Tiatro could boost the image and improve the quality of this Tiatro very much, both from male and female segments.

No doubt the Tiatro was excellent and enacted well by all the artistes yet credit goes better to Ashwin and Trupti Kerkar for playing the roles of elderly couple nicely, so too Johny Mascarenhas, Sunshine Fernandes, Irene D’Souza and the writer/director himself for doing their respective roles well.

The story is surrounded mainly on the elderly couple,  their family life and finally ending in their romance declaring their love to each other saying “I LOVE YOU”.

The comedy part was very intellectually depicted where you see the real intellectual part of the director and where again he brings his genius into play.

In the beginning especially the first “Pordho” was rather lengthy where in the end it found a bit dull but later on the entire matter was enjoyed by the audience. KUDOS TO MATHIAS MASCARENHAS.

LAUDAINHA AT MIRAMAR ON 8th INST.

On 8^th of this month, at Miramar in Panjim, I attended along with Tony Correia the Managing Director of Gulf Goans Hotels Co. Ltd., the traditional Goan Laudainha sang in Latin with the musical accompaniment of professional musicians. It was organised at the residence of Tony Figuredo and his wife Nancy Figueredo.  It is an annual event they organise at their residence since a long time now where after finishing the event the benevolent Figueredos served not only “Ukoddlole Chonne” but they also served the rich dinner to over 50 guests who attends this religious occasion annually.  

This year the number of attendees was over 50 and they were well entertained by the nice music played by the professional musicians. This event on this date is marked in honour of Our Lady of Vailankani – 8^th of September.

Tony Figueredo was a long timer in Kuwait landing in that Sheikdom in 1948 at the young age of just 17 and getting employed at the prestigious Bank of Kuwait and the Middle East and returning back to Goa  after serving Kuwait for 52 long years.

He is one of the top Shareholders of Gulf Goans Hotels Company that owns the Hotel Goan Heritage at Calangute.

Among the guest attendees for this event were Surendra Furtado ex Mayor of panjim and his wife.
