WISHING ADEUS TO A. VERONICA. XIV.

This is to A. Veronica to wish him Adeus from Kuwait.  He has done a lot for the cause of Goa and Goans.  He was an identity of Kuwait Goans during the last many years of his stay in Kuwait.  He brought honour, name and fame for Kuwait Goans by doing what was needed. In his leaving, Kuwait Goans will lose a great intellectual Goan, a man of knowledge and wisdom of whose type there is none in the community in Kuwait.

My suggestion to Veronica when he is in Goa.  Do not involve in contesting elections even though you will get lot of opportunities. You are a man who can do wonders only by being away from the Legislatures.  Your villager and colleague Tomazinho Cardoso lost his original Konkani self when he got elected to the Assembly and during his entire term as Speaker and Legislaor he did nothing good for Konkani though he claim he is the big and genuine Konkani lover.  He is a fake Konkani mogi and his silence for the cause of Konkani for 5 years as a legislator is a proof of his negligence.

Veronica during the invasion of Kuwait you came forward and united Kuwait Goans under Goa-Kuwait Solidarity and organised a powerful movement in support of Kuwait. Such movements you alone can initiate and lead because people know you as a perfect leader and for this they supported all your movements.

Now in Goa unite Goans settled in Goa for their good causes.  Bring all the scattered Kuwait Goans in Goa under one banner and make them a force to reckon with.  In Goa nobody bothers of them.

Bring all the Goa based Kuwait Goans in the name of Konkani under one banner and fight for Romi Konkani cause.  Throw all the rubbish Goa Goans out because they are all selfish. Revive Goa-Kuwait Solidarity activities to create a good and lasting bond between Kuwait and Goa. Keep going with your writings but do not contest the Election.  People will try to use your talent for their own benefit. There is not a single political thinker in Goa like you.  You fall totally in a different category. Your only fault is that you are born in Goa.

Wish you Veronica best of luck and Adeus to you true Goenkara.

Antonio.

WISHING ADEUS TO A. VERONICA. XII.

Your story was very inspiring and encouraging at the
same time.

Many including myself take great lessons from
your story. I am
sure, as you leaving Kuwait and settling in
your Goa, you will
not stop inspiring and working for the good of
people in Goa.

Goan are loosing their identity at home and
abroad. I am in USA
and have been attending celebrations such as
Goan Christmas Party,
Goan Food Festival, somehow I get the feeling
that the organizers
have forgotten their values and cultural
wealth as Goans.

Well, let me wish you a Christmas filled
with Joy and Peace and a
Hope-filled New Year 2014.

WISIHING ADEUS TO A. VERONICIA. XI.

Dear Mr. Veronica,

While wishing you a happy retired life from Kuwait, I strongly feel your leaving Kuwait for good will create a deep vacuum in the community and nobody in Kuwait even in the future will fill this void.  Your coming to Kuwait in 1975 at an early age with full of knowledge, zeal, vigour, wisdom and love for Goa and Goan causes was a big blessing for Kuwait Goans in particular and Indians and Kuwaitis too. What movements and deeds you did so successfully nobody among Goans and Indians could do and not even imagine.  All these movements came into being only because of you.

Before you came to Kuwait and even after you there were gigantic Goan personalities with mighty financial and professional power with vast influence at their disposal but none could step in where you put both your legs fully.  Your plus point in your success was your sincerity, faithfulness, truthfulness and total dedication to the causes you fought for.

You had unique distinction among Goans especially the Goan figures to remain above any suspicion as you remained without Sex, drinks, gambling and loot of public funds scandal. You have never misappropriated any funds nor took any commission for the social work you did.  You worked purely for the social causes without making money for you out of your public activities. Nobody can point his finger with evidence that you have goofed anywhere. You were immaculate in all your dealings in public life. You had God's blessings to do good work.

You were a great orator and people always loved your public speeches which gave lot of informations and messages, like you nobody does in Kuwait,  Kuwaitkars will miss this.

In your writings you are number One and there is nobody in Kuwait among Goans who can come closer to you. In your writings there is not only boldness but lot of matter, very few in the world can write in such a manner. Though you were very hard in your writings against perpetrators of injustice yet you never wrote ill of innocent people, on the contrary you supported the weak and innocent.

The farewells that were accorded to you is like peanuts compared to your mighty work you did in the service of Goans from Kuwait.

I dont think there will be another A. Veronica in our midst.  May God Bless you with good health and peace of mind to work for Goan causes from Goa.  Man of your calibre is required now in Goa.. Hope you will do something more in Goa.

ADEUS NIZ GOYKARA -- ADEUS TUKAM DOLLEANIM BHORUN DHUKAM.

Frenncisco M. Fernandes.

WISHING ADEUS TO A. VERONICA.. X.

Kuwait will surely miss you Veronica. Your absence will remind even your detractors of your true worth. Your selfless service to the weak and a voice for the voiceless, and your missionary zeal in taking up social, political, sports and cultural causes having the gumption and courage to call the 'spade' a 'spade' will never be forgotten or erased.

Keep well and enjoy a happy retired life with your family. You deserve it more than anyone else.

Dear Antonio,

It is with great pleasure that I congratulate you for such a honourable narration of your life in Kuwait and for proudly leaving the country which helped you become and fulfill such tremendous virtues in life!

I take this opportunity to extend my sincere wishes to you as  this is a new beginning and I am sure you will not remain idle after stepping on Goan soil for good!

Retirement is not the end, it's a new beginning.
The big challenge of retirement is how to spend time without spending money. I’m sure you have already planned what you are going to do in Goa. I am requesting you to specially focus on getting Dual Citizenship for Goans with Portuguese passport.

Regards
Maria do Ceu

Three-and-half years turns to 35: thoughts on leaving Kuwait

A. Veronica Fernandes

When I first came to Kuwait, my intention was to work here only for three and half years or so, to make enough money and then return to my birth place.  But fortunately or unfortunately, and as destined, I instead had to work in Kuwait for over three and half decades.  It was not as simple as it would appear, to make enough money to fulfill all your obligations in just three and half years.

Dear Mr. Fernandes,

All the best for your retirement.

Please do not loose your momentum to work for the benefit of "amchem sobeet" Goa.

May be start by working to bring Aam Admi Party to get rid of money power and end corruption in Goa.

This movement should be more effective in an educated state like Goa than in a state like UP or Bihar.

Kind Regards,

"ADEUS" TO KUWAIT.

Finally time came to me to say Adeus to Kuwait and thru these lines I say Adeus to Kuwait where I worked for over 3.5 decades.

When I first came to Kuwait my intention was to work only for three and half years, make enough money and then return to my birth place but fortunately or unfortunately and as destined, instead I had to work in Kuwait for over three and half decades. It was not as simple as that to make enough money to fulfill all your obligations in three and half years.

Whatever it may be, whether 3 and half years or 3.and half  decades, I must thank God with deep gratitude for keeping me healthy to work and survive and secondly for keeping me alive till now to say Adeus to Kuwait.  Many of my friends who came to Kuwait with me and after me as well are no more in this world while some others gone from Kuwait crippled. Those who are no more in this world may God give their souls eternal rest while those who are gone with physical deformities may God help them to be okay. Thank God I am still okay and alive inspite of attempts on my life by the Iraqi soldiers on the day of the invasion of Kuwait on 2nd August, 1990 early in the morning in Kuwait City.

When I came to Kuwait my intention was to enhance my financial status which no doubt I did but in the bargain and in the process I learnt also a lot by coming to Kuwait which otherwise I would not if I had been in Goa only.

In this country you can get lot of opportunities to learn and to gain because this is an international country where you come in contact with different types of people from all around the globe and from whom one can learn a lot. Fortunately for me due to my involvement in many activities I gained a lot by interacting with different nationalities and societies with different types of people.

I must accept the fact that I received total support in few friends of mine to spend such a long time in Kuwait successfully; one of them was the late Mr. Diogo A. D’Souza from Tivim who got me employed when others rejected me and where I worked till the end; the second person was my “gaum bhau” the late Messias Barreto who was a fatherly figure to me; the third person was John Felix D’Souza from Anjuna who protected and supported me even in worst of my crisis especially in my activities and movements and the 4th person was Ignatius Fernandes from Calangute who took maximum care of me in my needs.

Besides many other friends and colleagues of mine co-operated with me to make my stay in Kuwait comfortable.  From the bottom of my heart I thank them all for doing so much good to me. Without their support life for me in Kuwait would not have been as smooth as it was.

I have voluntarily retired from my job by submitting my resignation by giving a mandatory 3 Month’s Notice Period which already expired and on 24th of this month I  will quit Kuwait for good.

I know I owe nothing to anybody in Kuwait nor do I have any obligation towards anyone to fulfill.  However, if any one has to contradict this statement he or she can contact me at any moment before I leave Kuwait for good.

During my last so many years of stay in Kuwait I was directly and deeply involved myself in many activities and movements either to initiate or to support as none among the Goans involved.  In all these activities and movements if I have attained success then I must rightly and loudly say thank you to my colleagues and friends who stood by me in attaining that success. Without their support and cooperation that success would not have been possible.  I am grateful to them.

During my long inning in Kuwait I did many movements on many issues and raised my voice and fought against injustice and while doing so some perpetrators of injustice must have got hurt but I am not responsible if anyone is hurt in the bargain. I was interested in delivering justice especially for the downtrodden against the arrogant.

Almost all the major Goan movements from Kuwait started after my coming to Kuwait either with my initiative or with my support or thru my campaign, namely Goa Cancer Hospital, Konkani, Novem Goem Daily, Kuwait-Goa Direct Flight, Competitive Goan/Indian Soccer Activities, Gulf Goans Hotels Co., Kuwait Konknni Kendr, Konkani Heritage, Goan Welfare Society, Mando Festivals, Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center and Freedom for Kuwait’s Prisoners of War. In all these movements all the Kuwait Goans did not participate since many remained just dormant, these Goans were just existing in Kuwait. Their utility for the cause of Goa and Goans was Zero, they worked and lived in Kuwait for their own benefits only.

When I came to Kuwait first time, I came with a big smile on my face and by the grace of God while leaving Kuwait I am leaving also with a big smile. I am grateful to God to help me to leave Kuwait smilingly when many of my friends and colleagues left Kuwait with tears in their eyes. May the same God help them to dry their tearful eyes.

While concluding, once again a “Big Thank You” to all my friends and colleagues who helped me in my personal life as well as public life during my long period in Kuwait and NOT FORGETTING KUWAIT AND MY EMPLOYERS for affording me a lengthy opportunity to stay and work in Kuwait.

MAY GOD BLESS KUWAIT – MAY GOD BLESS MY EMPLOYERS AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL.

A.Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.
