ADEUS CONGRESS.

Finally Congress has closed its doors for an alliance with any party in Goa  and thus opened the doors for its opponents to regain the power that Congress looks internally wants.  Otherwise knowing the people’s mood as anti-Congress just as it was during the last election, Congress would have submitted itself into alliance with the like minded parties not only to defeat the ruling party but more than that to save its little left over existence.  This stubbornness of Congress will cost it very dearly, so much so I am sure Congress will be totally wiped out from Goa as it happened in the first election in Goa.  Thru this decision Congress has proved that it is an enemy of Goa and “Goencarpon” and a friend of those who are all out to destroy Goa and Goencarpon.

Digvijay Singh by living in Delhi is an unknown factor to do the prognosis of the mood of Goans and relying on the coterie of a few Congressmen in Goa who are not interested in the well being of the party other than their own benefits at party’s cost, will do no good for the party to regain its lost glory. As given to understand, by doling and selling the election tickets to the defeated candidates, oldies, party deserters and rebels, the R.I.P. of Congress in Goa is already scripted.  Adeus Congress. You have betrayed the genuine supporters of Goa and Goencarpon. In the books of Goan history you will be known as destroyer of Goa and Goencarpon. Adeus.

TIATRO "ANJ BODDVO" BY PASCOAL DE CHICALIM.

ANJ BODDVO.

On Sunday, 27th of this month at 10.45 in the morning at Mapusa, I saw the Tiatro “ANJ BODDVO” Written and directed by Pascoal de Chicalim .  Though it was not a houseful attendance wise yet  it was a good number.  Though the audibility in the hall is bad due to defective Mike system  yet people were satisfied.  However, next time the directors must use their own Mike system as they do in the villages to avoid nuisance of Mike system of the hall at Hanuman Theatre, Mapusa.

Storywise the Tiatro was good and all the artistes played their roles well.  Though they are most of them new to me yet their performance was worth admiring especially of females deserving highest compliments, even in singing of Side Show songs they proved their worth. The role played by Coelho of a handicapped boy is extremely good deserving highest award. The word Anj Boddvo is used in figurative sense indicating the birth of a handicapped child.

A comedy scene

Side show songs were good but Saby de Divar’s political solo was very good. His presence had very good effect on the Side Show and if there were few more like him the impact would be more.

As a whole, this Tiatro is worth admiring.

During the interval, the chief guest Mr. A. N. Nagvenkar of “Ann Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology” who is also a philanthropist businessman and a great lover of Tiatro,  financially helping many Tiatrists to stage their Tiatros,  in his very humble speech declared his candidacy in Aldona Constituency for the forthcoming election as an independent candidate and asked the voters to vote for him.

TIATRO "MHAKACH KITEAK" BY ROSEFERNS.

Powerful political singer Francis de Tuem sings one of his solos

Creto is seen singing his opening solo

On Wednesday 23rd of this month, at 8.15 pm in Candolim, in the Church area, I saw the Tiatro “MHAKACH KITEAK” written and directed by Roseferns.  It was well attended by the locals and also was well enacted by the entire troupe.  The story is based on the family life where one member to make money involves in drugs business and in the bargain while accumulating wealth thru illicit business, he performs illicit acts, this role was very well enacted by the seasoned actor Tari. As his wife matured artiste Roma did justice to her role. The others who played their respective roles well were Antonette de Maina, Rosario de Benaulim, Creto and the director Rose Ferns.

A scene where lovely pair of Tari & Antonette de Maina are seen

Rosario de Benaulim singing his solo

The comedy part was well enacted by the three comedians, namely Neto, Selvy and Dorothy.

A scene where seen are Creto-Dorothy & Neto

Roma & Rosario de Benaulim sings a duet

Side show songs were well rendered by all the singers and they were well appreciated by the audience.  However, special mention must be made to Francis de Tuem for both of his solos, one on the current currency notes problem and the other on threats from the top BJP stalwart against Christians and Muslims. Both these solos are very powerful and well researched. So too to Rose Ferns,  Tari and Rosario de Benaulim for their good solos;  a duet by Roma and R.Benauim, A Trio by Neto – Dorothy – Creto and special song on the Tiatrists by Roma and Antonette de Maina.

Comedians Neto & Selvy

This Tiatro MHAKACH KITEAK is enriched with some very good sayings and dialogues in which lies the speciality of Roseferns. Hence, it is worth watching this Tiatro at an earliest opportunity available.

The musical score provided by Teo Alvares and his troupe deserves compliments.

SAD DEMISE OF PEGGY PEEIRA (EX KUWAIT)

It is with deep regret and sorrow I write this piece expressing my feelings over the sudden and untimely death of our friend and colleague Peggy Pereira. I came to know her in Kuwait in 1977 when she was acting in Tiatro at Keefan Hall where she played a beautiful role and then we inducted her in our dramas, Mandos and other extra curricular activities, at that time she was working for Alghanims and later on she joined the Commercial Bank till her retirement. She was very popular figure in the Church as a prominent Choir singer and also doing other Church activities.

Seen extreme right is Peggy participating in Mando Festival at Plaza Hotel, Kuwait.

Being a colleague of Adeeb Soiaber in the Bank and who was also an Anchor at Kuwait TV, she introduced me to Adeeb referring to our movement under Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center in support of the liberation of Kuwait. After learning from me the details of this movement, I gave Adeeb some photos and Video Cassette of our movement.  Based on this, Adeeb prepared a programme of 7 minutes which he aired on KTV English Channel on 20.09.91.  Thru this programme the entire Kuwait especially the Kuwaitis  came to know what we did for them when their country was seized by Saddam Husseuan.

Two years back Peggy is seen in addressing a meet in Panjim to mark the liberation day of kuwait on 26.02.14/

She addressed our meetings  in Kuwait and Goa as well to mark the liberation day of Kuwait and thus gained the goodwill of the people.

She is the daughter-in-law of famous Tiatrist KID BOXER and was very proud of him.

In her death we lost a good friend and an activist  colleague. May her soul rest in peace.

DANGER OF MGP-BJP ALLIANCE.

According to the media reports, MGP and BJP have already formalized their alliance to fight the next election to destroy Goa and “Goencarpon”. This they did because they jointly want to achieve their common goal. When the enemies of Goa and Goencarpon are awakened to work for the achievement of their goal, the so called friends of Goa and Goencarpon are still dormant without doing anything to come under the alliance umbrella to defeat the already formed alliance of our enemies. By not coming under the alliance, the protectors of Goa and Goencarpon are defeating their own goal thereby giving the victory on silver platter to the already formed alliance partners, to destroy Goa, Goencarpon and Secularism  in a worst possible manner. That will be the end of my beloved Goa for whose sake from Kuwait I have done so much within my limited capacity.

It is a long time now we have been hearing the news that Congress Party in Goa is going to have an alliance with the like minded parties having the same goal to achieve, that is, of unseating of BJP from the power.  But as things are moving now,  I doubt the Congress under the current leadership will form an alliance.  In the light of this, will it be right to vote for Congress party which is not going to achieve its goal without the support of alliance partners?  Allowing the victory for the current ruling party will be a great setback for the minorities whose very existence will be in jeopardy.  For this disaster, Congress alone will be held responsible.

The hardcore anti-Christian parties MGP & BJP will systematically aninhalitate Christians in Goa and to oppose them and stop them none of the current Christian politicians from BJP group will come forward since none of them is having marbles in their underwears of their Christian fathers. A person of Mathanay Saldanha calibre could not stop Parricar from cancelling Christian holidays then what the current  slaves of BJP will do?

Recently one of their hardcore national leaders Shri Rajeshwar Singh said "The last date for Christians and Muslims in India will be 31st December 2021, they will be exterminated and India will be 100% Hindu country".  This is a very serious statement which so far none of the BJP top leaders condemned which indicates  the mindset of BJP party.

ABE FARIA'S STATUE INAUGURATED IN CANDOLIM.

The newly installed Abe Faria's Statue in Candolim

Where every past Calangute Constituency MLA failed the current MLA Michael Lobo succeeded in installing the Statue of Abade de Faria in his birth place Candolim. Kudos to Michael Lobo for making efforts to get this job done and shame on all his predecessors for being impotent in doing  this job even though some of them were in the ruling party. However, if it was installed in Pintos Vaddo itself where Faria was born 260 years ago, it would be nice. I don’t know who selected the present site and why the locals were not consulted. However, inspite of this goof, I also say kudos to the local Panchayat headed by the current Sarpanch Sandra who has woken up to help this job done while all her predecessors remained dormant, of course shamelessly.

The local Pe. Vigar Colaco is seen blessing the tatue

If I am not mistaken, it was Goa Governor Nakul Sen in mid sixties who while inaugurating the Candolim Panchayat Ghar, exclaimed in a surprise tone thus: “Oh my goodness, on what soil I am standing now! The soil that gave birth to one of the greatest  human beings of this planet, Abe Faria.  I feel honoured to be present in Faria’s birth place, Candolim. I congratulate you who gathered here to be the citizens of this village of Abe Faria”. This was the surprise expression of a Bengali  Sen when he came to know at the last minute that this village gave birth to Abe Faria.

A section of the attendees seen attending the Meet

In Kuwait while I was addressing the international gathering comprising elite background, I was asked where I come from by a western member of the audience. I replied saying “I come from the place and the village that gave birth to the world renowned Hypnotist Abe Faria”. Hearing this some in the audience got up and applauded me for being a Goan from Abe Faria’s village.

Michael Lobo is seen unveiling the Picture

Abe Faria though revered outside Goa yet remained a forgotten hero in his own place and village where there are Ladru-Pedru type of people handling the local affairs. Otherwise this Statue would come out long time back. To do this  type of great job you need intellectual people in your local administration and not those having the background of domestics Ladru -Pedru. Thanks to the efforts of Michael Lobo otherwise this Statue would remain a distant dream. The “Chors” who looted the village of Abe Faria never thought of keeping his memory alive.

Tomazinho Cardoso seen addressing the Meet.

The Statue was inaugurated thru the hands of Tomazinho Cardoso in the presence of Michael Lobo, local Pe. Vigar and others.

Police Band is in attendance

During this function, one picture depicting three Candolim Tiatrists namely the late Alexinho de Candolim, Tomazinho Cardoso & the late Young Menezes was also unveiled.  Goa is yet to produce the likes of Alexinho de Candolim and Young Menezes though they died a long time back. According to my view, Goa is unlikely to produce again such a duo.

Director General of Police seen addressing the Meet

Excellent speeches on Abe Faria were delivered by the intellectually giant speakers namely Isabela Santa Rita Vaz, Dr. Hegde and Director General of Police who researched Abe Faria’s life so well. Their speeches were very appropriately focused on the subject of the function based only on Abe Faria without diverting cheaply elsewhere. It was their great speeches that brought the level of the function to the pedestal befitting the grandeur of Abe Faria.

Isabela Santa Rita Vas seen above

In  my recently published book “From Coconut Trees to Oil Wells” I made a great deal of mention of Abe Faria. I am sure those who read my book must have noticed this. Additionally, I wrote a few articles earlier requesting the concerned people to erect the Statue of Abe Faria in Candolim. I am finally happy that the statue has been installed.

FAREWELL TO CANDOLIM CHURCH.

BRO. ONASIS NAZARETH SAVIO D’CRUZ.
FAREWELL TO CANDOLIM PARISH.

After completing his first term of 6 months of Regency to gain experience at Candolim Parish Church, Brother Onasis Nazareth Savio D’Cruz finally bade adieu to Candolim on 6th of this month  to complete the remaining second term in Dadra & Nagaraweli where he will have to work mainly with the tribal people.

Brother Onasis was  named after Greek business tycoon Aristotle Onasis who was married to Jacqueline Kennedy the wife of assassinated President of USA, John F. Kennedy.

Hailing from Baga Velim in Salcette he did his Seminary education at Rachol Seminary and then went on obtaining a degree – Bachelor of Mass Media from Bombay University thru St. Xaviers College, Bombay. To get priestly ordination he still has to put in another three years of studies which he will do and probably get ordained in 2020.

During his 6 months stay in Candolim, I found him very charismatic person, over eager to help anyone seeking any help in Church matters and also on spiritual. Because of his humble nature parishioners loved him very much. Even Hindus liked him very much. His attraction lies in his broad charismatic smile which Candolim parishioners will miss henceforth.

When questioned about his 6 months stay in Candolim and his observation, he said the Candolim village is very beautiful inhabited by very good people and the local parishioners he said are very religious and devotional  and above all very co-operative.

When asked what message he wants to give to the people of Candolim, he said “lead a good family life and God will automatically bless you”.

Finally he thanked all the parishioners for their love, affection and co-operation.  And in a special way he thanked  the Pe. Vigar, Pe. Cur, all the groups helping in the Church activities for their support and co-operation in fulfilling his duties in the Candolim Church.

I wish you Brother Onasis all the best in your pastoral duties. May God Bless You.

"MEET THE ARTISTE" TIATRIST SUCURRINHA

In a regular programme organized by Tiatr Academy Goa, “MEET THE ARTISTE”, today the famous Tiatrist Sucurrinha Pizardo was interviewed by Michael Jude Gracias in the presence of good number of audience at Institute Menezes Braganza Hall,   Panjim, at 4.00 PM.

Not only on the Stage Sucurrinha showed her maturity in acting but also in answering with ease the posers posed to her by the interviewer and some members of the audience.

Seen above is the compeer.

She spoke well with her witty statements woven with jokes thus giving an impression that she is  on the Stage of course to the continuous applauding by the attendees.

Seen above is Sucurrinha

She made some very interesting comments during the interview namely, “If what I am today it is only because of Tiatro and Konkani”. “ If by chance I am born again, I will opt for Tiatristpon only”.  “I would even love to die on the Stage only”.  So much she is indebted to Konkani Stage.

Seen above is Mr. Gracias

She was all in praise of past tiatrists for their qualitative works and good character.

She said she was introduced to Tiatro in Bombay by Saib Rocha and then there was no stopping.
Seen at right is Sucurrinha

She rendered some of her songs to oblige the attendees including one by mixing with the attendees.

As a whole, it was wonderful entertainment.

ARE GOENKARS COCKROACHES OR HOUSEFLIES? BY PROF. SERGIO CARVALHO.

Are Goenkars Cockroaches or houseflies?

On Mahatma Gandhi’s 147th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the inauguration ceremony of the modern complex “Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra” at New Delhi, boldly declared, among other things:

“India has never attacked any country nor COVETED any territory…”
Really?!

Another P.M.of India, another time used almost the same words.

1. On 21st August 1955, at the U.P.Congress Committee Meeting at Sitapur ex-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, categorically stated:

“It is not that we COVET Goa.
That little bit of territory makes no difference to this great country”

2. On 26th July 1955, at the Lok Sabha P.M. Jawaharlal Nehru said:

“We have made it perfectly clear and we have based our policy on this; that we shall use force only in self-defense, that we shall not provoke a war or start a war or adopt any aggressive tactics in regard to a war”.

3. On 15th August, from the Red Fort, Day of Independence, P.M. Jawaharlal Nehru declared:

“India is determined not to use force”.

4. On September 1955, at Rajya Sabha P.M. Jawaharlal Nehru emphasised:

-2-

“ I want to remove the idea from any person’s mind, that we are out to coerce, or compel Goan people to come into the Indian Union”.

And yet, and yet…
the whole world knows how Goa and Goans were brazenly betrayed, on every count, by the very same P.M. Jawaharlal Nehru, who had projected himself as the ‘Dove of Peace” of and for the world. December 19, 1961 marks the date that ushered the period of tragic history of Goans and Goa.

Mr. Shrikant Yeshwant Ramani published a volumnious, painstakingly researched work (Second Editor-2012) titled:” Operation Vijay. The Ultimate Solution” The publication features the minutest details of the meticulous preparations, the “Operation” itself and post it.

In this publication Mr. Ramani puts forth the arguments of the Government of India, notwithstanding P.M Jawaharlal Nehru's promises,  utterances and grandstanding, that proved to be sanctimonious, that Goa 'had to be conquored, because India could not accept a “colony” of a Foreign Power on its soil.

Mr. Shrikant Yeshwant Ramani’s book quotes “Indian Intelligence Report” about the Portuguese Forces in Goa viz, “One Infantry Batallion of about 2200 Troops… that were generally… immature and inadequatly trained” “… a Navy consisting of three small ships that sailed between Goa, Daman and Diu” and “… no Air Force… worth considering”.

-3-

As compared to this, the Government of India, without the mandatory declaration of war, launched a massive attatck on Goa, Daman and Diu, on 18th December 1961, from three sides of Goa. The Indian Army of highly trained 45,000 men and 25,000 reserves, armed with sophisticated weapony, units of armoured vehicles and backed by Air Force and Navy, swooped on Goa, under command of Maj.Gea. K.P. Candeth.

Is it any wonder that these might Forces of India accomplished their “Operation” in just 11/2 days? On the other hand the outcome of a battle between tiger and a sheep is foregone, but to claim it to be “Vijay” !?

Obviously, all the Nations of the world were alarmed and highly disturbed. An emergency meeting of the U.N.Security Council was summond on 18th December 1961, the deliberations of which lasted long into the night, because of the possible and eminent loss of innocent unarmed population of Goa.

After much discussion, during which France, the U.K., China, U.S.A. Equador, Turkey and Chile severely condemned India, for the use of armed Force against an unarmed population, that was also contrary to the Principles of the U.N.Charter, of which India was (and still is) a signatory.

Mr.S.K.Jha, representing India at the U.N.Security Council Meeting, brazenly and contemptuously declared, that India already entered Goa’s borders, “Charter or no Charter, Council or no Council”.

-4-

He also declared, with total disregard for truth, “that Portugal has massed 12,000 millitary troops, Air-Crafts and Navy, and that these Forces have been threateming all the people of Goa and the neighbouring people of the territory of India”.

Notwithstanding the exact opposite ground reality in Goa, even as per the Indian Intelligence Report, two Resolutions were submitted at the U.N Security Council Meeting.

1. A Resolution supporting India’s Military action in and against Goa, was submitted by Ceylon (now Srilanka), Liberia, (then) USSR and United Arab Republic (UAR).

When the Resolution was put to vote, by show-of-hands, it was not adopted, because 4 voted for and 7 abstained.

2. The second Resolution was submitted by France, Turkey, the U.K. Northern Ireland, U.S.A, Chile, China and Equador.

The Resolution called for:
a. “Immediate cessation of hostilities…
b. “... and for India to withdraw to its position, prevailing on 17th December 1961”
c. and “… urge(d) the parties to workout a permanent solution by peaceful incaus…”
d. “... with the assistance of the General Secretary:. (of U.N.)

-5-

The Resolution was put to vote by show of hands. Seven (7) voted for and four (4) voted against. Yet it was not adopted, because of the “veto power” of USSR as a “Permanent Member of the Security Council” and one of the four (4) that voted against the Resolution.

Mr. Stevenson, representing the USA from the inseption of the UNO (for 16 years in 1961), lamented “with a most heavy heart” that the failed Resolution because of the veto of USSR, could begin the demise of the UNO, just like NATO earlier. It could also make the UNO a powerless Body, unable to prevent Nations taking to arms, to settle their differences, thus nullifying the raison d’etre why UNO was stablished, with such great hope.

Mr. Stevenson’s words proved to be prophetic.
The world today has become one great killing-field, while the UNO watches helplessly, apart from providing food for the starving millions of the undeclared war-victims, medicines for the severely wounded children, women and men and passing Resolutions and strictures that no one respects.

At this stage, it is necessary to point out that Goa (Daman and Diu) was in a “special league” as a “colony”, as compered to the colonies of the world-powers then, including Angola, Mozambique and Timor, that were “colonies” of Portugal, in the common, dictionary meaning of the term.
Despite the long period of Salazar’s dictatorial regime, that severely controlled and curbed the Press (just like the period during the ex-P.M. Indira Gandhi’s “Emergency”), not only in Goa, Daman, Diu, Angola,
-6-
Mozambique and Timor, but ALSO IN PORTUGAL, Goans (as well as people of Daman and Diu) were and remained full CITIZENS of Metropolitan Portugal.

As full “citizens” of Portugal Goans have been Ministers of Central Cabinet of Lisbon, Supreme Court Judges (Dr. Vassanta Tamba in Lisbon) Governors of Provincers (Bernado Peres da Silva of Goa), University Professors Diplomats, Admirals, Generals (ex-President of Portugal-Gen. Ramalho Eanes, served in the Portuguese Army in Goa, as a Lientenand, under Command of a Goan. A member of the prominent family of Panjim-Mamay Kamat served in the Portuguese Army).

As full “Citizens” of Portugal, Goans held Portuguese “Titles of Nobility” etc. From 1822, when Parliamentary System was started, Goa sent is elected Representatives to the Parliament in Lisbon, without fail.

Thus Goans as full “citizens” of Portugal, enjoyed all the socio-political rights, for a atleast 400 years before India was “born” as a Political entity and for 125 years excercised their right to be elected to the Paliament in Lisbon. Infact, Goa’s most illustrious M.P.Francisco Luiz Gomes, elected from the Canacona Constituency, died in the same month and year when Mahatma Gandhi was about just 1 month old!.

And now Portugal has a Prime Minister Antonio Costa; Dr. Joao Leao as Minister of State for Economic Affairs; Virginia Bras Gomes - a Senior Policy Advisor in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and others, all of whom are Goans who are full “citizens” of Portugal and not as “neither-here-nor-there” P.I.Os of India, in foreign contry.
-7-

Indians, on the other land, under the harsh, repressive British Colonial Rule, were “Subjects” of the “British Crown” and therefore were denied all socio-political rights and privilages that citizens in England enjoyed. Zamindari System was stablished by British Colonial Goverrnment to collect taxes from poor farmers as well as from Rajas and Maharajas of the many independent Princely Kingdoms that made up the sub- continent of India then. During the British Colonial Rule, people of the sub-continent suffered much socially, economically and emotionally.

The socio-political situation during the British Colonial Rule has been bluntly expressed by the spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. In a satsang, when a seeker asked him why the Indian media projects India negatively, he answered.

“Because when we were SLAVES, when India was ruled by the British, our media had this tendency to blame everything…” (“The Speaking Tree”_ A Times of India Publication 14 June 2015) It is telling that while Goans were full “citizens” of Portugal, Indians under the British Colonial Rule were “subjects” or “slaves” of the Master-the “British Crown”.

It is clear that Goa was not a “colony” in its true dictionary sense, just as East Pakistan (now independent Bangla Desh) was not a colony of West Pakistan and the people were but full “citizens” or Alaska, that is separated by a massive land-mass of Canada, is not a colony of the USA and the people are full “citizens” of the USA.

-8-

However, after India conquered Goa on 19th December 1961 (Supreme Court of India-Mons. Sebastiao F.X.dos Monteiro v/s State of Goa A.I.R.1970 page 329 S.C.), Goans and Goa are traped in “Internal Colonialism” of India - a concept propounded by Shrinivas Dharmadhikari -- a Management Coasultant, keenly engaged in Global Busines, Geo-Politics, Social Equity and Secularism.

According to Mr. Dharmadhikari, “Internal Colonialism” depends on appropriating precious but limited natural resources and launch an “Extract and Sell Spree”, with total disregard for environmental and ecological consideration or inter-generational equity” This understanding of “Internal Colonialism” fits the tragedy that Goa is today, like a made-to-order glove. Of the total iron-ore exported from India, 60% of it, as the ex-P.M.Nehru disparagingly referred to as “that little bit of territory”- is our Goa.

But as a “Conquered People” Goans must wake up to the fact, that the Conqueror owns not only our limited, natural resources, but us, the people. This is doubly re-enforced, because Goans are also “subjects” or “slaves” of the “Internal Colonial” Master--- India.

Despite the fact that all the Nations of the world and the UN were alarmed, shocked and shaken, because of the full-fledged Millitary assault by India, on Goa (Daman & Diu) on 18-19 December 1961, P.M.Narendra Modi, on 2nd October 1961, chose to sweep it aside, as a non-event, precisely because, as a “Conquered People” or “subjects” or “slaves” we are insignificant and non-consequential, just as cockroaches
-9-

or houseflies are. “Thou shall not kill” or “trample upon” is not applicable to cockroaches or houseflies and now progressively to Goenkars, as is clear to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.

Let this reality sink deep in the minds and hearts of every Goenkar everywhere and remain vigilant against the indoctrination, that we are free, that we are liberated. That is now a 55 years old LIE. How much longer will we Goenkars allow this LIE to go on?

That is a serious question that needs a serious answer, from us Goenkars everywhere!

(Sergio Carvalho)
