TRAGIC DISQUALIFICATION IN 100 MTRS.RACE.

It was very shocking scene two days back to watch the fastest runner of the world Usain Bolt from Jamaica disqualified for false start in the 100 metres final in Korea where the World Athletics Meet is under way now. Bolt is the reigning Olympic champion and when he ran in the last Olympics at Beijing he surpassed all the previous fastest runners by running the event in the fastest timing one ever ran. His timing would have been still better if he had not to slow down during the last 15 metres taking for granted that victory is already in his pocket. Normally in 100 metres sprint the winners selected thru photo finish but for Bolt in the last Olympics it was totally different because almost from 15 metres before the finishing line Bolt was far ahead of his other world class competitors when he boasted of his victory by beating his chest saying ”I am the best”. Earlier top Olympian sprinters like Jim Hynes, Valery Borzov, Ben Johnson and Carl Lewis never boasted like Usain Bolt but Bolt is of totally different category sprinter. Carl Lewis after he saw Bolt at Beijing Olympics coming out first in 100 metres, remarked that he could not believe seeing what he saw of Bolt. It all happened because of the improved advanced methods of training. A small unknown country like Jamaica can produce such stalwarts then why we in India cannot do the same?

It was a very pathetic sight to watch Husain Bolt in desperate state immediately following his disqualification. In desperation he lost his sanity for a few moments, removed his Banyan in the middle of the track, went into the dressing room and banged his head on to the wall. Thank God he did not lose his mental balance. It was too much for him to bear this colossal loss. In his loss in this important race for which he practiced so hard for so many months together, he also suffered a loss in millions besides loss of his image. To start the 100 metres race one has to be totally alert and good frame of mind besides good frame of physical fitness and physical alertness. If your start is good then the 50 per cent of the victory is yours for this reason your start should exactly synchronize with the trigger of the gun. Usain Bolt inspite of his vast experience and training in this field still faulted and this fault cost him very dearly. I feel sorry for him. I missed a great opportunity to see him running a great race and enjoying it. In his disqualification the current World Athletics Meet has lost much of its charm and glamour. Usain Bolt was the victim of the latest rule change by the World Athletics Federation which stopped giving second chance for the first time falters. According to the earlier rule second chance was given if one takes a false start for the first time.

During my hey days in Goa I was not a world class runner but proved to be the fastest runner of Goa being an individual All Goa Inter School Champion and All Goa Junior individual champion. 100 metres was my favourite item and during the final of my record creating run in this item I faulted once but taking advantage of the second and last chance I became more alert to syncronise my start with the sound of the gun shot and began my race with confidence till I came out first. The starting point in 100 metres is killing you mentally, there is tremendous pressure on your nerves and all your body muscles vibrate your whole body. 100 metres race is the most grueling and strenuous race among all the running races. For this reason the winner of 100 metres is considered as hero of the Athletics Meet at regional or at international level.

CAN WE SAY SAYONORA TO CORRUPTION FOREVER?

Thank You Annaji ! All the fizz and the buzz of the last two weeks has
finally died down, the news and the talks on TV were indeed getting
monotonous and overbearing and we, the Indian public have had enough
of it, to last us a life time and now the forever hungry Indian media
will have to wait for yet another fast or yet another scam to feast
on.

Anna’s loud and aggressive tirade against corruption is a worthy cause
which people of all walks of life have embraced, with open arms and
clenched fists, there is no doubt that corruption has been a curse
that’s been usurped and promoted by our erstwhile and present
political luminaries to such an extent that in the last few years,
scams have been surfacing like mushrooms, on a mushroom farm,
curtailing and barricading the social and economic growth of the
states and the country.

There is absolutely no doubt that our politicians especially the
Congress, tried to bulldoze the bill with it’s dictatorial mindset
trying to emphasize that bill making was their congenital right as
elected representatives and the public should have to live with it,
come what may, but with Anna’s obstinacy and the dissenting voices
clamoring for a change, growing steadily louder by the day, a remedial
legislative action had to be taken for damage control, but
unfortunately the damage done by the Congress attitude and the delay
is certainly well beyond repairs.

Corruption, like bigotry can take on more insidious forms, if allowed
to incubate and spread, not that they both are a new found phenomena,
what I want to say is, if both are allowed open space and time, they
can be equally dangerous for the wellbeing of the people as well as
the country, so every marginalised group will have to be brought under
the ambit of this bill and we will also need to stigmatize corruption
as the perennial appendage of all evil and shame by punishing the
guilty with firmness and harshness, no matter who, leaving no doubt of
its far reaching and dire consequences, instead of just ostensibly
promising action against those professing and promoting corruption.

Even though Anna’s crusade has been supported by majority Indians
because of its critical issue, there has been criticism too from some
quarters because of his RSS background and the Modi issue, but these
however cannot dilute the efforts of this seventy four year old to
fight corruption. Knowing our politicians, we understand what they
stand for and why they stand for, so BJP’s double feet plunge in
support of Anna in the last days of fast can be very easily identified
and analyzed without much of an effort. So also some politicians form
either side of the great divide have made statements and showed their
presence in support of the anti corruption crusade of Anna but we all
know why, elections are just round the corner.

Anna being a simple man with a simple mind could be vulnerable to
manipulations from our highly skillful manipulators in all forms and
colours and I only hope Anna and his henchmen and women are wise and
cautious enough to identify the hyenas on the prowl in their midst.

If the Bill has to be a success we will have to be vigilant and cover
every loophole that may allow corruption to proliferate under it’s
very nose and eyes undetected and above all, to facilitate the
effectiveness of this Bill we ourselves will have to say no to
corruption and become incorruptible, but even then the monumental
question that perturbs me most is, will the Jan Lokpal Bill be the one
Bill army, a solution to all our myriad problems ? With this bill,
will we be able to say sayonara to corruption forever ?

ANNA HAZARE'S VICTORY IS THE VICTORY OF EVERY INDIAN OPPOSING CORRUPTION.

At last, thank God, Anna Hazare finally broke his indefinite Fast after 12 Days when the Government of India surrendered to all his demands for the good of all Indians. It was a victory of all Indians who want India to be corruption free. Anna Hazare is the mouth piece of all Indians who want good for Indians. His victory showed the power of peaceful agitation in a democracy. It is also a great victory for Indian democracy. The pressure brought on parliament was so extensive that finally parliament had to cave in as per the wishes of the people represented by Anna Hazare. As a representative body of the people of India requiring to follow the wishes of the people, parliament just did the right thing.

The surrender of Indian government to Anna Hazare was not a spontaneous one but it was extorted one by Anna Hazare from the mouth of Indian government which reluctantly gave in to the demands of Anna Hazare having no other options otherwise there was a possibility of India going into chaos. Anna Hazare was the symbol of aspirations of all Indians longing to have a corruption free India. People in India are fed up of corruption at every level going on in India and if Anna Hazare was denied his demands there was the possibility for riots and chaos to happen in India. Rightly government of India sensed the mood of the people and quietly surrendered giving an impression that it has done a favour on Anna Hazare.

Submission to Anna Hazare’s demands was not a favour or a goodwill gesture on the part of Indian government but it was a victory acquired by fighting a battle by Anna Hazare with the Indian government which was reluctant for 12 continuous days creating hurdles at every step. In this battle Indian government not only lost the war but also exposed itself as an unreliable government giving no confidence to the opposite party. For this reason Anna Hazare and his team demanded in writing the decision of Indian government. It is a pity that government of India is giving such a law opinion of its sincerity in dealing with important issues with opposite parties.

With the victory of Anna Hazare in his Fast against corruption it is just the beginning of the revolution that is going to take place in India. Anna’s team must not stop now with this victory. The next subject for campaign is the reforms in Electoral system which should be totally overhauled to disqualify people of questionable character from contesting election for any public office. This change again has to be brought thru the power of democratic system which must be maintained by all means. We in India are very fortunate to have strong democratic system in existence while people elsewhere in the Middle East are fighting and spilling their blood to get into democratic system which is denied to them by their political leaderships.

The greatest asset of India is the deep rooted system of democracy which is very difficult to shake even though overwhelming majority of Indians who exercise their democratic rights is literally backward. It is this democracy of India that brought the Indian government to the knees of Anna Hazare. It was this democracy of India that created democratic revolution in India in 1977 by dethroning Dictator Indira Gandhi from power. This very same democratic system must help overhaul the Electoral System in India to debar rogues and criminals from contesting election and to stop playing the game of money power to win the election.

To highlight the greatness of Indian Democracy, I quote the late assassinated Premier of Pakistan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He said “If India is still strong as a unified nation, it is only because of the Hoax of democracy. Though it is a hoax yet it keeps India united in the name of Democracy”.

I hope this same Democracy will bring about total chance in India.

VIOLENCE ON THE STREETS OF MIRAMAR.

Violence On The Streets Of Miramar

The news about the violence on the streets of Miramar spread like wild fire and as I went through the news, I felt that if choppers and knives were replaced with blazing guns, this act would have been a straight from the famous Mario Puzo best seller, The Godfather, by the Mafiso’s on the streets of Sicily, a film directed by none other than the Oscar winning Francis F Coppola.

Goans all over are shocked at such violence within the parameters and precincts of the Capital city, which houses the GHQ of the Goa Police. It looks like criminals have neither fear nor respect for the HQ of the law enforcement agency of Goa and it is indeed worrying to note that even though a police van was in the vicinity of the crime scene, the mafia type gang war still erupted in broad day light and on the main road of the posh locality and in this barbaric attack, an innocent bystander was stabbed and is now fighting for her life.

Would criminals dare commit this barbaric crime in such close proximity of a police station and more so the Police HQ, if our police were honest, efficient and duty bound ? Any where in the world, criminals would think hundred times before committing a crime in such a close proximity of a police station and more so of the police GHQ. It is very much evident that our system of governance has rendered the Goa Police ineffective and impotent, willingly or unwillingly, or else, how can we explain that our Goa Police are now saluting and protecting the very same person that had attacked the GHQ in broad daylight and few years ago ?

In Goa the nexus between criminals, police and the politicians is common knowledge, the political clout and money power of the crooked and corrupt politicians shelters criminals and feeds the police and those that are good enough to refuse handouts become victims of the transfer transgressions in God forsaken places.

The hired goons of politicians act as tools to clamp down non-cooperating and non-submitting individuals or parties, especially during elections and in return get protection from anything and everything including murder. Even in this present case it’s in the news that a present minister in the Kamat cabinet, went to the hospital to see the criminal who was attacked by a rival gang but unfortunately did not think it prudent to ask about the welfare of the innocent girl with a punctured lung fighting for her life, a victim of collateral damage.

Every minister in Goa has his own band of renegades who follow their orders without any questions, faithful dogs ready to pounce even on unsuspecting and peace loving victims. Sometimes it is the members of the security service that carry on atrocities against innocent and peaceful protesters on the behest of miners and politicians. The number of custodial deaths has shown the apathy of our Police for the Rule of Law and justice. Deaths due to criminal negligence are ignored, murder files closed as natural deaths and rapes swept under the carpets.

In Goa if you have the money and the hand of a politician over you, you can get away with anything and everything and the apathy of our Police and politicians has overwhelmingly led to the pathetic state of affairs in Goa. We Goans today are not secure in our own streets and in our own homes and this is only because we Goans have sold our self respect and our dignity to the highest bidder and elected the same corrupt and conniving politicians to carry their relentless assault on Goa and Goans, unabated.

I only hope and pray that the prevailing mayhem in Goa will make every Goan sit up and take account of our actions and realize our folly, take corrective actions and elect good people who will work for the wellbeing of Goa and Goans and get rid of people who support crime and criminals for their own personal wellbeing.

REPLY TO VERONICA ON "goan freedom fighters".

Dear Veronica,

Your article on the subject is very much appreciative and of the need of the hour. I was interested to read what Prof. James has responded to you over your discussion with him. Nevertheless, your argument over the Freedom Fighters not coming forward in support of Anna Hazere is very much right and justified. Your further mention about the so called Freedom Fighters being involved in robberies and other criminal activities is also believable. Because, many of them were in prison for various other offenses than the freedom related during the time Goa was liberated from Portuguese rulers.

Besides, these so called freedom fighters have no other motive now than haterage towards Christians. The other motive is only to beg pension from Goa Govt. while a fight for freedom is a sacrifice these freedom fighters made it as a business only to beg pension. A real & honest Freedom fighter will honor his fight as a great sacrifice to his State and would never claim a reward thus making it as a payment for his fighting. And after all what kind of fight they must have put which is that worth? I am sure the real Freedom fighters must have never listed themseles to claim any reward for their heroic sacrifice.

And what kind of support they will give to Anna Hazare? They themselves may be one of these listed in the corruption list otherwise they should have been the first one to come on to the streets to fight the corruption considering their fight for freedom of Goa is never to lead Goa in to corruption. Today they should have been No. one enemy of Politicians who are looting Goa left and right, they say they have fought for freedom, for not having come forward to fight against the corruption, i am sure they too share the loot along with our Politicians in Goa.

It is always less the more we comment over our Goa's so called Freedom Fighters.

Regarding you Veronica, I must admit openly that your articles in goa-kranti are creating excellent results. There is nobody in our community any where in the expatriate world who writes the way you write. Your articles are full of wisdom, history, reality and matter. You should carry on with your campaign from kranti for the betterment of our community because you are the only such person who can do so.

By associating with you in Kuwait I know your activities are excellent for the cause. You are a charismatic figure among Goans in Kuwait , people even your adversaries support you because you are straight man, you never involved in cheating, you were never dismissed from any association for doing mschief, you have never misappropriated fund of any association, you are not a drunkard and bove all you are a nice family man never involved in keeping a concubine. I know in Kuwait the so called prominents are known to cheat their wives by keeping concubines and who they are you know very well.

Keep up the good work.

Regards.
Elvino.

WHERE ARE GOAN FREEDOM FIGHTERS NOW?
Prof. James from Assonora Bardez was my professor at Xavier’s College, Goa. He was a brilliant English teacher whose every lecture was a great lesson for the students. During Portuguese time he was a great Goan Christian freedom fighter who faced imprisonment and beatings from the Portuguese Agente. A few years back when I was on my vacation in Goa, I met him at the residence of Rangel Bastora, at Bastora Bardez where while on discussion on Goan political scene, I asked him this question: “Professor James, don’t you feel guilty to see the sad state of affairs Goa is undergoing now? What was your purpose to fight for Goa's freedom? Just to drive away the Portuguese out of Goa and leave Goa into the hands of these current corrupt politician rogues?”. Then I went a step further and accused the genuine Goan freedom fighters for keeping their silence on the corruption that is going on in Goa because they freedom fighters are quiet and watching everything as silent observers, adding further that they have to fight for one more freedom for Goa from these rogue politicians otherwise their sacrifices for the genuine cause of Goa will go waste....

THIRD CLASS LEADERSHIP OF INDIA.

On the advice of Anna Hazare his supporters went on demonstration to “gherao” the houses of some Ministers and MP's in Delhi to force them to support the Jan Lokpal Bill. In Goa supporters of anti-corruption movemet “gheraoed” the house of Sardinha the Cong. MP from South Goa. In Delhi they demonstrated in front of the houses of Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Sing and Pranab Mukerjee. This is one of the methods of civil disobedience movement.

During the Konkani language agitation in mid eighties I was on vacation in Goa and at that time we the Konkani lover agitationists almost every second day taking out rallies from Panjim Azad Maidan and going to Altinho in demonstration shouting slogans in front of the bungalows of Ministers residing there like Maharajs at the cost of Goan taxpayers. We were demonstrating in front of their residential bungalows to indicate our anguish to them over their apathy towards Konkani in not supporting Konkani cause in the Legislative Assembly. During so many demonstrations only once we encountered one minister that was Harish Zantye who seeing us shouting slogans in front of his Bungalow came to the balcony of his first floor like a Maharaja and smiled at us like a big “BAIZON” without uttering a single word. Activist Aires Rodrigues from Ribandar who was one of the prominent persons leading the demonstration loudly asked Zantye “what is your reaction to this demonstration?” For which Zantya again smiled like a big “KHETEM”.

Then we went in the demonstration to two Ministers bungalows but unfortunately neither of them came out to see us. When enquired with their guards, we were confidentially told that one of the ministers a Hindu Romeo was busy in having Sex with a Christian girl with a promise to offer her a government job while the other a Christian Minister was busy counting currency notes in lakhs which he received as bribe to allot a contract to the local contractor. Both the Ministers who refused to see us were corrupt like any other Goan minister. This is the quality of our ministers, now it is worst for this reason the imperative need of the Lokpal Bill.

The campaign that Anna Hazare carrying now against corruption is done on behalf of every Indian citizen for this reason there is so much of support for his campaign spontaneously from every Indian. Anna Hazare is become the mouthpiece of every Indian who is disgusted with the corruption going on in India. Like 42 years Libyans tolerated suppression from Col. Ghaddafi and now revolted against his autocratic rule, in the same manner over 4 decades Indians tolerated corruption of Indian governments under Congress, Janata and BJP and finally like Libyans revolted against the government of India for tolerating corruption for such a long period.

The Libyan revolution was created by the young generation within the range of 40 while the current anti-corruption revolution in India is largely supported by the youth because they must gain the benefit of corruption free India. The benefits of Indian freedom were acquired by the politicians and their family members only but now the benefits of anti-corruption movement will surely go to every Indian whether politician or not politician.

In the aftermath of the independence of India, Indian politicians succeeded in creating for them and their children a new class of Indians that is a class of New Kings and New Maharajas; if father is a MLA or MP or a Minister his sons or daughters and grandchildren should also follow their parents and grand parents. It is like Kingdom or Sheikhdom passing from father to the son and so on. While in the aftermath of the Lokpal Bill artificial Kingship and artificial Maharajaship will come to an end in India.

The point of saturation is already reached for people’s tolerance of corruption in India. Congress leadership will have no option but to surrender to Annaji otherwise there will be chaos in India for which only the current government of India in Delhi will be responsible. The anti-corruption movement going on in India is not of Annaji only, it is the movement of every Indian and they will not keep silence till justice is done. The government of India and its leadership failed to read the temperature of the mood of Indian people. Just like Indira Gandhi who failed to read the mood of the Indians during the emergency rule in India and thinking that people will re-elect her she went for general election in 1977 and got a royal kick on her back.

In the spectrum of Ana Hazare’s movement Indian leadership at the Centre in Delhi totally failed and thereby it failed the dignity of every Indian giving an indication that Indian leadership is not into the hands of matured people. As an Indian I am afraid to tell that Indian political administration is in the hands of wrong people who may commit any blunder while dealing with our neighbours. Good that China fought a war with India in 1962 only and captured only a piece of land from India. If it is now, due to immaturity of our leadership, taking advantage of the weakness of our leadership, China would capture whole of India. Good that India fought the Bangladesh war in 1971 only. If it is now, instead of liberating East Pakistan our gullible leadership would give to Pakistan on silver platter Indian West Bengal also. I am afraid of India’s security because Indian leadership is in the hands of rogues and wrong people. These Indian rogues may even sell a part of India to our belligerent neighbours. This is the third class quality of Indian leadership.

NAMES OF GOA POLITICIANS ON INTELIGENCE AGENCIES WATCH.

To,
Goa Kranti.

Kindly read below the article from Goa Chronicle. It also appeared on goancauses.com. May be the countries mentioned are not entirely true but the sources of ill gotten wealth are justified. Some of this wealth will be used in the forthcoming elections specially in Salcette. Most probably all these politicians will win the next elections, because we goans have become eunuchs. I bow my head in utter disgust.

Names of Goa Politicians on Intelligence Agencies Watch

GoaChronicle
Saturday, 13 August 2011 13:07

In our expose ‘Black Money Trail: Goa Politicians under Intelligence Agencies Radar’ we mentioned that politicians of Goa of cabinet rank status and members of the Goa Legislative Assembly were being watched by the Central Intelligence agencies as part of their investigations following the black money trail especially Hassan Ali money-laundering racket. GoaChronicle.com now exposes the politicians under radar…

Investigations into the Hassan Ali trail is still on even though he recently got bail; as well as investigations into the Indian politicians and businessmen black money trail; GoaChronicle.com through its sources in the Central Intelligence Agencies has learnt that 60 names from Goa including politicians and businessmen are constantly under watch – movements, communications, associates and travel are all monitored and we had mentioned this in our previous expose.

Of the 60 names we have exposed that 6 cabinet rank ministers and 13 members of legislative assembly from Goa are under constant watch, including their family members and known associates. Intelligence agencies have also managed to track down some of their foreign bank accounts.

Please note that the names mentioned in this expose are not names come out of the 700 account details in Swiss Banks given by the French Government to the Indian Government; which is currently being scrutinized into by the Union Ministry of Finance and Enforcement Directorate. We will release those details as soon as we get more information. The names of the politicians we are exposing are a part of the Black Money Trail coming out the Hassan Ali investigations into money-laundering and these politicians are under radar; formal report will come-out post the investigations as revealed to us by a senior ranking Intelligence agency officer of the rank of Joint Director.

The 6 cabinet rank ministers under serious watch are

Digambar Kamat – Chief Minister also holding the Town & Country Planning portfolio. Intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Singapore, Moscow -Russia, Beijing in China and Mauritius. Sources of funds are expected to be from mining, real estate, industries, casino relations and current ministerial portfolio.

Churchill Alemao – PWD Minister. Intelligence agencies are investigating his bank accounts in Dubai - United Arab Emirates, Doha – Qatar, Kuwait and Lisbon- Portugal; other countries where they expect bank accounts to be held are Muscat -Oman, Mauritius and London – United Kingdom. While the sources of his funds have not been zeroed down on it is expected to be coming from mining, money-laundering, real estate, drugs, casino relations, protection money and current ministerial portfolio. His real estate assets in the Gulf countries and Portugal are also under scrutiny.

Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate – Minister for Education. Intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Dubai – United Arab Emirates, St Petersburg – Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Singapore and Mauritius. Intelligence agencies watching him indicate that his sources of fund come from self-owned businesses, real estate, money-laundering, casino relations, protection money and though not confirmed escort services is also one business model of his fund generations. The minister was recently detained by customs officials at the Mumbai airport for carrying foreign currencies to Dubai above the government permissible limits. He was however let go after investigations. His real estate assets in Gulf countries, South America and Europe have been identified, investigations are still on.

Joaquim Alemao – Urban Development Minister. Intelligence agencies are tracking his accounts in Dubai – United Arab Emirates, Doha – Qatar, Kuwait and London. Possibility of accounts in Mauritius and Lisbon – Portugal have not been ruled out. His sources of funds are mining, real estate, casino relations, protection money and current portfolio.

Ravi Naik – Home Minister is currently under suspicion owing to the police-politician drug nexus, intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Singapore, London, Thailand, Germany and Switzerland. His sources of funds are considered to be protection money, real estate, mining, money-laundering and drugs.

Other Cabinet Ministers on the radar are;

Alexio Sequeira – Power Minister. Intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Lisbon – Portugal, Dubai – United Arab Emirates and London – United Kingdom. Real estate, mining, self-owned businesses and current portfolio are the sectors being considered as his source of funds.

Vishwajeet Rane – Health Minister & Agriculture Minister. Intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Dubai, London, Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, Mauritius and Russia. Real estate, drugs, casino relations, money-laundering, escort services and self-owned businesses.

Jose Philip DeSouza – Revenue Minister. Intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Dubai, Doha – Qatar and Thailand. His sources of funds are protection money, money laundering, real estate and current portfolio. Intelligence agencies are also probing links of this minister to a probable counterfeit money racket, though it is still under investigations, there appears to be serious suspicion in light of the recent counterfeit money found in one of the Casinos and a trail has led to the Revenue Minister, who has denied all knowledge of it.

Other Members of the Goa Legislative Assembly under watch

Agnelo Fernandes – Calangute MLA. Intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Dubai, Doha, Brazil, Argentina, Singapore and Thailand. His sources of funds are expected to be protection money, drugs, real estate and escort services, money-laundering and self-owned business. He is also supposed to have picked up real estate in Brazil and Argentina.

Mickky Pacheco – Benaulim MLA. Intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Dubai, United States of America. They suspect that he also have an account in London. Real estate, protection money and money laundering are being investigated as his sources of funds.

Mauvin Godinho – Deputy Speaker & MLA Cortalim. Intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Dubai, Doha and London. His suspected sources of funds are real estate and protection money. Though money-laundering is also being investigated.

Pratapsingh Rane – Speaker & MLA Poreim. Intelligence agencies are tracking his bank accounts in Switzerland, Germany, London, Singapore and other South Asians countries (though no exact details have been got on it yet). His sources of funds are considered to be real estate, mining and self-owned businesses.

Other ministers under intelligence periphery watch are also Nilkanth Halarnkar, Tourism Minister and Deepak Dhavalikar, Transport Minister though intelligence agencies reveal that nothing yet startling has come out.

Among the other members of the Goa Legislative assembly under periphery watch are Dayanand Narvekar – MLA Aldona, Curchorem MLA Shyam Saterdekar, Quepem MLA Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kawalekar, St Cruz MLA Victoria Fernandes and Manohar ‘Babu’ Azgaonkar from the current Congress MLAs. Among the BJP MLAs under intelligence radar are Laxmikant Parsekar, Manohar Parrikar, Damodar Naik, Francis DeSouza and Dayanand Mandrekar. While nothing yet has come out of these MLAs, intelligence agencies are still keeping a watch.

Investigations into the Hassan Ali trail have revealed that 70 per cent of most transaction originates from Mumbai and Goa. Money laundering, mining, real estate, casino relations, drugs and protection money is coming out as main sources of the black money.

At this point of time GoaChronicle.com would not like to speculate on the guilt or innocence of any minister or MLA. Our job as an investigative media is to bring information to the people of Goa. This information has been revealed to us by a senior officer of the Central Intelligence agency of the rank of joint director. We have also been told that currently the above details are under investigations; though at this point there seems to be nexus between politicians in the money-laundering racket and their frequent travels internationally is bringing the cloud of suspicion on them and them holding international bank accounts. No details on amounts that politicians have in these accounts have been revealed as yet. A report on these investigations is expected to be released before the end of this year.

The question however that does now get thrown open is if the investigations into the black money trail does in fact indict or directly implicate any of the ministers or members of the Legislative Assembly, will the people of Goa stand up against what can be seen as misuse of government office, political clout and taking the people of Goa for a complete ride.

NEED OF A STRONG JAN LOKPAL BILL.

By Nisser Dias.
25th Aug 2011

A strong Jan Lokpal Bill is the only way to fight corruption in this country.
The countrymen led by Anna Hazare and his team are up in arms against the UPA government for drafting what they termed a weak Jan Lokpal Bill – a weapon that is foreseen to fight or rather curb corruption.

Tens of thousands of people are participating in rallies, marches, demonstrations in almost all the states in support of Anna’s demand for a stringent bill wherein even the prime minister of the country will be held accountable for any form of corruption. Undoubtedly such a bill was long overdue and it is indeed the need of the hour because of rampant corruption in all the spheres of governance and administration be it at the central or state level.

In the two five year term of the UPA governance the scale of corruption has been astronomical whereby the country has lost tremendous revenue at the same time has brought a bad name to the country wherein India is featured in the list of top ten as most corrupt countries. Cabinet colleagues in the Dr. Manmohan Singh government are presently locked in the Tihar jail and many more are being investigated for amassing huge wealth disproportionate to their known source of income or currying favours to corporate houses and industrialists for personal gains. This is the reason we need a strong Lokpal bill to curb the menace of corruption in its various forms.

Six decades have passed since Independence but none of the governments during this period did anything concrete to wholeheartedly and sincerely introduce a full-proof Bill in the parliament to fight corruption. Every time it was introduced there was opposition to certain clauses and was conveniently shelved.

It was only in April this year when 74 year old anti corruption crusader upped his ante and undertook a fast unto death making citizens of this country to support him to fight corruption that the government realized that the suppressed anger of the people was turning into a tsunami. They had no option but to introduce it. But Anna and his team contemplated their moves well. Knowing very well that any government not necessarily UPA would not draft an effective Lokpal Bill demanded that members of the civilian society be included on the drafting committee. The UPA government realized escape routes for corrupt politicians, judiciary, and other government employees were sought to be shut, they refused to incorporate recommendation of the civilian society members in the Bill.

The politicians or rather some of the parliamentarians feel that the civilian should not usurp the duties or privileges of the parliament. My question is if these members of the Lok Sabha and Raja Sabha are so conscious of maintaining the sanctity of the august House, why did it take more than 60 long years to formulate a bill to curb corruption. Secondly if in a democracy the government is “of the people”, “for the people” and “by the people” why should the elected representative raise a hue and cry of including civilian society on the drafting committee and incorporating their recommendation in the bill?. Do we forfeit our rights as citizens of this country after we cast our ballot? Constitution of India gives us the right to freedom of speech and expression at the same time it endorses our right to protest and demonstrate peacefully. And Anna’s protest through indefinite hunger strike defines people’s power.

For the parliamentarians on the Bill drafting committee, inclusion of the Prime minister, judiciary and certain grade officers under the ambit of Bill is not acceptable. Does not the prime minister and judiciary come under laws like the Income Tax or Indian Penal Code? Just a week ago both houses of parliament impeached a High Court judge misappropriating money deposited with the court and also for amassing wealth. Therefore earlier laws were made to include everybody. It is said, nobody can be above the law however high or low. Why should there be an exception in the Jan Lokpal Bill especially when there are plenty of allegations of corruption against the judiciary and when fingers are being pointed at prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in the 2G scandal. Can we forget Bofors scandal where former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi was accused of receiving kickbacks.

At the same time the country is proud to have Dr. Manmohan Singh at the helm of affairs and is projected to be Mr. Clean, so what is the fear and why is the resistance to include prime minister and judiciary under the Lokpal Bill.

This resistance has given the BJP and its allies reason to go hammer and tongs at the union government. The UPA should use this tacit support of the NDA to the Anna’s protest and pass the Bill. Of course BJP is also using this opportunity to come back to power.
Though there has been overwhelming support to Anna Hazare’s protest and demand for a strong Jan Lokpal Bill at the same there have been misgivings about the methods used by him. Even Prime minister Dr. Singh has commented that Anna might have high ideals but his methods are misconceived. Our elected representatives and even Dr. Manmohan Singh should specify the ways and means to be adopted by civilians to bring about a change in the functioning and administration of our country.

For example tens of thousands of people who are participating in the protest with Anna must have surely paid a bribe to government official and a large section might have also been forced to pay to get their work done. The question here is can a common man scream at a government servant of demanding a bribe, if he does so criminally cases of assaulting a government official on duty, obstructing government servant while carrying out lawful duties are registered against the common man. Whereas if a common man wants to register a case of corruption he is made to run from pillar to post to produce evidence because our system is corrupt and balance is tilted in favour of government employees rather than the people. And what better example do we need when anti corruption crusader Anna Hazare is sent packing to jail for demanding a strong Jan Lokpal Bill but all the politicians of this country who have made politics their business and have amassed enormous wealth through corruption are living in luxury.

God save this country from our politicians and strong Jan Lokpal Bill is the only answer.

IN REPLY TO "WHERE ARE GOAN FREEDOM FIGHTERS NOW?

Bhaywant has left a new comment on your post "WHERE ARE GOAN FREEDOM FIGHTERS NOW?":

Don't you feel ashamed to talk about freedom fighters sitting in kuwait. There were many freedom fighters on 16th august at Azad Maidan. How foolish of you to expect old people to struggle and young one like you remain busy making money abroad. Use some brain of yours.

Freedom fighters are old. They are supposed to sit at home and enjoy the fruit of tree they have planted. You are supposed to be here on ground to struggle. It is very easy to write blogs sitting in comfort of your home.

Then I went a step further and accused the genuine Goan freedom fighters for keeping their silence on the corruption that is going on in Goa because they freedom fighters are quiet and watching everything as silent observers, adding further that they have to fight for one more freedom for Goa from these rogue politicians otherwise their sacrifices for the genuine cause of Goa will go waste.

The job of a genuine freedom fighter is not only to fight for political freedom but also for social and economic justice. The current politicians in Goa are devouring all the assets of Goa for their benefits and for the benefits of their family members. All the third class people who till recently had no proper means to eat properly are today become crorepotis by involving in politics which is become a very lucrative business especially for the ‘Chors’. While these corrupt practices are done by our corrupt politicians by sucking the blood of poor masses thereby keeping them economically weak, what role our freedom fighters are playing? Just to give a slogan saying Salazar Murdabad and Nehru Zindabad one does not qualify to become a freedom fighter and to earn Tamrapatra and Pension.

Tamra Patras of some freedom fighters give a shade of robberies and crimes they committed against innocent Goans during Portuguese era. Many of the Goan freedom fighters involved in freedom movement only to drive Goan Christians out of Goa as if Goan Christians are less Indians and other Goans are more Indian. Goan Christians are as Indians as any other Goan and nobody can belittle the contribution of Goan Christians towards Goa’s freedom movement.

When whole of India is burning now with the flame of Anna Hazare fire for his campaign on corruption, what role our Goan freedom fighters are playing collectively? Are they devising ways and means to desecrate Fontainhas again? Are they thinking to stop Portuguese ship anchoring at Mormugao again? It is a pity that some of the Goan freedom fighters are irresponsible and useless citizens of Goa doing things which are irrelevant thereby damaging the good image of genuine freedom fighters.

My friends freedom fighters! many of you are cowards and rogues and criminals. During Portuguese time in the name of freedom fighting many of you have committed worst of robberies and crimes against innocent Goans. There are so many stories in North Goa side of the crimes committed by the freedom fighters. They had no marbles to kill and destroy Portuguese but only the innocent Goans. Portuguese was ousted from Goa not by the Goan freedom fighters but by the Indian Millitary.

Portuguse people were not the enemies of Goa but Portuguese colonialism. If Goa remained backward and Goans lacked so many facilities it was not because of the Portuguese but because of our own Goans who prevented Portuguese from doing good for our own Goa and Goans. Portuguese Governador was assisted in the administration of Goa by a team of 12 nominated Goan MLA's, almost all of them were of high class and high caste. It was this team that failed to do its duty properly towards the development of Goa and Goans. Many times with silly and cunning excuses they prevented Governador from doing good for Goa and common Goans.

The real enemies of Goa during the Portuguese time were not the Portuguese but the Goan Brahmins and Goan Bhattkars – Hindus and Christians - who suppressed the masses comprising Christians, Hindus and Muslims.

Portuguese colonialism was bad and it had to end but it ended not thru the power of Goan freedom fighters. Many of the Goan freedom fighters are cowards for this reason they are silent now when they should raise their voice in unison in support of Anna Hazare' s anti-corruption movement. Goa is suffering today because of the silence of Goan freedom fighters on the corruption that is going on in Goa.

WHERE ARE GOAN POLITICIANS GONE NOW?

When they asked Jesus what to do with this woman – Maria Magdalena – found committing the sin of adultery for which punishment according to Moses Law is stoning to death, the reply from Jesus came thus: ‘Whoever among you has not committed a sin should start stoning her first’. Since they were all guilty of committing sins, they found no courage to punish the sinful woman and hence instead they all one by one disappeared from that place.

When expected from them to stone corruption to death by supporting Hana Hazare’s movement against corruption, like all the sinful Pharisees one by one they disappeared from the scene. And who these Pharisees are? They are all the Goan politicians representing Goans in the Legislative Assembly. They just disappeared from the scene because they are like real Pharisees guilty of the sin called Corruption. When they themselves have committed the sin of Corruption, what right they will have to support Anna Hazare’s movement? From here one can conclude that among all the 40 MLA’s, there is not a single having a clean slate of his character. There is not a single MLA among them to raise his or her voice loudly and forcefully in support of Anna Hazare’s fast against corruption. This happened with our elected leaders because either directly or indirectly they as it looks are involved in corruption in Goa, some of them even stacking millions of black Money in foreign banks. This is the biggest corruption.

Where is Parrikar now and what is his opinion on Anna Hazare movement? His boss in Delhi is issuing statements this and that side but he and his Party BJP is a first class crook party with regards to Lok Pal Bill. Why BJP when it was ruling at the Centre did not bring this bill in the parliament when it had comfortable majority? This bill was kept hidden in the Parliament Locker for over 40 years and Congress alone is not guilty of this chicanery but also BJP for keeping its silence on this bill when BJP was in power.

BJP as Congress is equally guilty of promoting and supporting corruption not only at all India level but also in Goa under Parrikar otherwise Parrikar would not purchase political support of corrupt MLA’s to form his communal Government. Initiating defection and promoting defection is the worst form of corruption which is rampant in Goa shamelessly and sinfully done by the Holy Bible Kissers, Holy Koran Readers and Bhagvat Ghita followers. These corrupt people are a disgrace on their respective religions because of their corrupt political life which is not only an ordinary sin but the greatest sacrilege. There is no forgiveness for such sacrileges even these people may go a thousand times to Potta & Vailankani or to Mecca & Medina or with Crow-bars to demolish Babri Masjid at Ayodya..

People in Goa are regularly these days organising demonstrations in support of Anna Hazare but no where I noticed any MLA loudly and openly supporting these demonstrations. By their total silence on this topic they give an impression that they want corruption to flourish in Goa so that they rob Gons more and more.

By the way, what is the role of our Church in this respect? Why our Church leaders and priests not talking loudly and why not they take active part in this movement for social justice in line with Jesus’ doctrine? Is fight for social justice in India is the concern of Hindu leaders and Swamis only and not of Christian Padris?

NEED OF AWARENESS & SUPPORT FOR LOK PAL.

Over the years, we know how the Governments have always made their own policies in hiking the food prices, petrol prices, medical treatment & taxes; thereby creating inconvenience to the common people of India . These ministers have lost sensitivity & interest in the welfare of the people, although they do it willingly but behind the back there would be a heavier price paid by the common man unknowingly. The reason for this insensitive approach by the politicians is only because of their greed of gathering illegal money thereby blinding the same people who voted them to power.

The political mechanism nowadays is so over-flowing with money that these politicians have lost track of how to earn money by hard work and live an honest life. There was an instance wherein there was this politician who was stinking rich. So one of my friend happened to ask a close buddy of the politician as to why he was contesting the election even though he has so wealthy and had been re-elected several times. The answer was simple “He likes doing social work and for the betterment of his people”. I bet you all would have heard such answers many a times in the speeches given prior to elections. But what do we do about it? We just go & vote for the same politicians time and again without even thinking whether they would keep their promises or forget us. Some of us don’t have choices also since there are hardly candidates who are willing to contest because of the fear of being bullied and scared away by the big politicians in the area. I am sure the stinky rich politicians don’t forget their people. When I say ‘their people’ its not the common man like you and me, but the few hand-picked ones who have always been topped up with goodies in their pot.

Remember, you may be given the bait of few hundreds or may be thousand in your pocket just for your vote but the other hand-picked ones are always showered with plenty. Some politicians promise the youngsters for better technology & hi-fi stuff. These are some of the tricks to lure the younger generation but one should question these politicians as to use this so called ‘better technology’ why not have uninterrupted power supply, 24-hr water supply, clean roads & surroundings? These are some issues that these big fellows need to address but they are least bothered, just what matters to them is that they would try to implement hi-fi technologies and get some commission over it and fill their already over-flowing pockets. But my point is not to talk about all this, which probably everyone knows about and sits ‘susegadh’ over it as always but only to create awareness that if we think sensibly about a candidate or even encourage new hard working candidates who will do good for the community on a long run then we could definitely bring a change in our own state. Recently, I read about the amount of possible black money of politicians that has been found in foreign banks is amounting to numerous crores of rupees with some involvement of goan big fellows ( Refer to article -

http://www.goachronicle.com/goa/expose/18217-names-of-goa-politicians-on-intelligence-agencies-watch ) .

Imagine if we Goans had a share of this hard earned tax payers money in our custody then we could have had a better life for our families and not go away from them in other countries in search of a better living. In order to clean this disease of corruption, we need to force the implementation of the Lokpal bill. This bill is one of a kind which will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians accountable for their deeds. But the Lokpal bill has been in a freezer for some decades now thanks to the Governments in the past who fear that it will stop their looting habits. We see the support for Anna Hazare growing day by day; people are getting educated over the flaws in the politicians running the Government but we need to act. This man ‘Anna Hazare’ is putting his life at risk just to get a better future for us so that we live a clean life. So can’t we render our support to this one of a kind movement to clean our state & country forever? It’s just a start, we need to stand firm on this issue; may be one day we will see a corrupt-free state.

Mog assum di,

Malcon Silveira.

CORRUPTION AND THE LOKPAL.

Corruption And The Lokpal With all that’s been happening in India, thanks to Anna, the Jan Lokpal has become the breath of every Indian today with a few exceptions. There is absolutely no doubt, that with the deluge of scams that have flooded India in the past decade or so, we do need a very strong Lokpal Bill to curtail and arrest this gigantic anomaly of corruption that has spread like cancer and is derailing India and even Goa.

All said and done the Jan Lokpal looks to be a healthy antidote for corruption, but what worries me most, is that, almost every public institution and most of the NGO’s have been run by our Politicians directly or indirectly through their corrupt tentacles. The Panchayat Raj, that is the basic local body at the grass root level, which should have been free of politicians and their political influences, have also been hijacked by out Netas and Babus as their own personal fiefdoms, so what exactly will stop them from doing the same to the Lokpal and the Lokayukta ?

The Lokpal says the process of selecting or electing the Lokpal body will be transparent, haven’t we been talking of transparency for ages ? Unfortunately we are still bond and blinded by opacity for the best part of the twenty first century, will there ever be transparency in India and more so in Goa ? In our democracy, everything was suppose to be transparent, is it ? Not even by any small standards !

I am not a pessimist, but I too fear that all the efforts of the leaders and the people who are fighting against corruption and for a strong Lokpal Bill, should not be like water on the duck’s back. The success of the Lokpal will certainly depend on how we, as citizens of India and Goa, deal with corruption, refrain from encouraging corruption and act against corruption. The Lokpal can only give us the parameters but it will be we who will have to guard our boundaries against corruption. The million dollar question is are we Indians and Goans upto it ?

POWER OF SPORTSMEN TO CHANGE GOVERNMENTS THINKING.

For their selfish ends USA will do anything though publicly it will show that Americans are upright. In reality it is not so and to my knowledge they never were. Their policy is to give priority to their aims, either good or bad and in acquiring their goals they will even commit worst of crimes against their Christian principles.

The Second World War was brought to an end by the US nuclear bombings of Japan at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. When Hiroshima was bombed, Japan immediately agreed to surrender because Japan realised the power of Atom Bomb when Hiroshima was devastated. But without giving more chance to Japan for surrender negotiation, USA dropped the second Atom Bomb on Nagasaki. This USA did so hurriedly because it wanted to test the effect of second Bomb also on humanity since there was a linkage between the two to produce the required results. In fact there was no need to drop the second Atom Bomb on Nagasaki to end the War but Americans wanted to test its effect for this reason USA did not care for the enormous casualties created by the second Bomb. What is important for USA was its target and goal which they acquired even by killing innumerable people in Nagasaki also.

The war that Americans fought in Vietnam was the worst type of war where USA tested worst type of weapons on human beings, the Vietcongs. Inspite of public opinion against American involvement in this war in a distant land in Vietnam, USA would not relent. The great British Philosopher cum Mathematician Prof. Bertrand Russell in association with great and renowned world personalities like him conducted a Nuremburg type of trial of American involvement in Vietnam and they came to the conclusion that this was the worst war in the history of humanity where worst and most poisonous weapons were used on humanity by the Americans and as such USA must withdraw from this war in Vietnam.

Inspite of this trial creating public opinion against USA of its war in Vietnam, USA refused to bend down because the powerful message of Bertrand Russell commission did not reach to all the Americans and to the entire world to create a strong opinion against America on this war.

The American negro Cassius Clay turned Mohammed Ali the world heavyweight boxing champion was newly crowned world boxing champion. When he refused to get conscripted into American Arms forces and go to fight in Vietnam against Vietnamese, Mohammed Ali was reprimanded by the US government for refusing to abide by the US law. But Mohammed Ali said the war in Vietnam was unjust and my religion does not permit me to kill my fellow human being whoever he may be. Further Ali said that this war America fighting in Vietnam is for whose benefit and why USA is fighting this war?

Mohammed Ali was stripped of his World Boxing title and because of this controversy the world became alert especially the Americans and they started investigating the genuineness and necessity of this war. Then American public came to the conclusion that this war is not necessary and US government must put an end to it.

Why this sudden change of American public opinion against this war? Till recently there was no against opinion on this war but now it was made against by the One Man Campaign of World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Mohammed Ali. Who was Mohammed Ali? He was not an intellectual giant, he was not world renowned philosopher like Bertrand Russell, he was not Nobel Laureate. He was just a sportsman but a sportsman of very high calibre, a sportsman adored not only in USA but all around the globe. And as such his voice was more audible and more acceptable. It was his voice finally reached to American political administration that finally agreed to end this war.

While Mohammed Ali was fighting his battle against USA, one fine morning Bertrand Russell phone called Mohammed Ali and encouraged him to fight against USA to end this war saying you as a world figure is a right person to convince USA to stop this war. These are the words spoken by Russell to Ali “In the history of humanity there was not a single war worst than this war. This war must come to an end and your fight to this cause is just right one. Fight it out, I support you".

Now, Anna Hazare is campaigning against corruption in India. Because of corruption Indians are suffering, this suffering is worst than the sufferings in the war. While these days heavy campaign is going on where almost every Indian is supporting Annaji, surprisingly NONE OF OUR TOP SPORTSMEN is raising his voice on this topic. Indian Cricketters are the most popular and adored sportsmen in India but to my regret none of them is openly raising his voice against this corruption and in support of Anna Hazare. Why they are all silent when they should fight for this cause? Do we require Mohammed Ali now in India among Indian sportsmen especially among the cricketers? Are they all immune to the sad state of affairs India is undergoing because of all round corruption? Why they are not sensitive to this issue?

TWO POWERFUL WORDS CREATED MASS AWAKENING IN INDIA.

When Ghandiji gave a call for freedom for India from one end of the county, the people from the other end of India got erupted in euphoria only by listening the word FREEDOM. This word was enough for the entire population of India to raise its voice against British dadagiri and rally behind Ghandiji because people were hungry for Freedom. In this single word Freedom the entire Indian population got united for their common cause.

Similarly, now when Anna Hazare gave a call with one word ”CORRUPTION” to fight against Corruption from Delhi, the entire India got up in support to Anna Hazare’s campaign against rampant corruption going on in India. The government of India under Congress rule is responsible for hiding Lokpal Bill since the time of Nehru’s premiership thereby encouraging corruption in India. Poor and middle class of Indians are become more victims of corruption in India. Every Indian now feels that it is his duty to support Anna Hazare for this reason demonstrations started in every part of India in support of Anna Hazare’s movement. This is just a beginning. Such movement took place only once in India during the freedom movement under Ghandiji during the British Raj.

In a Hitlerian manner Anna Hazare was arrested from his residence giving an impression that Anna is a threat to the security of India just as it was done for JP in 1975 by the same Congress government under the dictatorship of Indira Gandhi. And now just within a few hours Anna was released. What a shame on Indian Congress government administration! To defame Annaji, Cong government said many things bad of Anna but this same and shameless Government had no shame to negotiate with him. If Anna was bad then why the hell this government of India discussed with him the details of Lokh Pal Bill? If Anna was bad then why the Government of India went to Anna like beggar to plead with him to withdraw from his fast, first of all?

In his release and withdrawing his detention I noticed another Hitler in making in Nehru family, that is Rahul Gandhi. As given to understand, at the behest of Rahul Gandhi, Anna Hazare was released. Though it is very good decision which I applaud on one side but on the other side I see an all powerful Rahul Gandhi at this young age not only in Congress but also in Government. It looks his word is final where no dissent is accepted. He made the entire government an idiot because of the idiotic action taken by the Indian government in a Hitlerian manner in wrongly arresting Anna Hazare when he at the time of his arrest did not commit any breach of law. I only hope in the future Rahul Ghandi’s absolute power will not corrupt him absolutely like that of his grandmother and Uncle because it is said “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. If his absolute power helps him to do well, it is ok. Otherwise I am afraid he may turn into another dictator Indira Ghandhi.

People’s power is already awakened in India. Just on the advice of Ghandiji students stopped going for schools and colleges to support Ghandiji’s call against British rule so also students boycotted their institutions to support Anna’s call for his campaign against corruption. Anna is the mouthpiece of every Indian opposing corruption in India. The youth in India in unison must support Hanna Hazare’s movement because they stand to gain more of this movement. Their good future lies into the hands of corruption free India.

From the current trends I am sure Government of India will come crawling to Anna’s feet for reconciliation otherwise the masses in India will revolt not only against Congress Party but also against the Government of India. The movement Ana Hazare leading now is for the second freedom, freedom from internal suppression done on every Indian by the government machinery thru the mode of corruption. Thru first freedom we got rid of colonial power from India and thru second freedom we must get rid of internal corruption which makes the privileged class richer and underprivileged class poorer.

I support Anna Hazare’s movement.

THE DEGRADATION OF OUR MOTHERLAND-GOA

What is the use of having 87% literacy rate in Goa and for being the third ranked literate state in India? We Goans are forced to bow our heads in shame for the disgusting developments taking place on the political front in Goa. Couple of months ago two of the many uneducated politicians allegedly resigned from the goa cabinet as ministers and also as from the Congress party. The reason is one of their siblings have been disqualified from contesting elections for Youth Congress post. They realized their ignorant folly when the local command did not budge in their antics, and rushed to Delhi to meet the high command. After an alleged reprimand for their shameless actions by the high command in Delhi, returned back to Goa stating that the high command have requested them to withdraw their resignations.

Now it has been given to understand that there were no resignations submitted and this was confirmed by CM. The biased press in Goa has been shamelessly reporting this ugly incident in local media. We can understand the plight of these two ministers, who without power are like fish without water, but Valanka is given to believe to be an educated person with law as her specialty. On return from Delhi she stated that she will build the congress party. Does she know the real architect of the congress party collapse in Goa all these years? Remember PDF?

She says her father is a pillar of the congress party. Four years back this pillar was holding some other party in Goa. Remember Save Goa Party??? She confesses that someone is back stabbing her and she has been framed. Does she have the guts to name the person? Valanka being a lawyer should stand up and declare what she says in public. Valanka should know by now that her family has vanquished all knives and frames by backstabbing and framing goans and thus famously mastered this trade. It seems social worker and a winning candidate and she may be right as her family has the money power to win her the elections. But what has she achieved so far rather than sharing the spotlight with her father in self sponsored activities?

Valanka being a well educated person should realize that some goans are highly educated than her and will not fall prey to her whims and fancies. Show your true will and power as an educated person and we will support you all through, but if you toe the line of this present uneducated lot then doom is not far away. All these hue and cry due to the forthcoming elections will not gather any momentum. MLAs think that by providing roads, electricity and water they have done a favor to us. For what are these rogues elected by us. To go to Delhi and have fun at our cost? Who spends for their trips to the national capital? What is that they want to provide for us goans by getting elected once again?

Churchill was on record to compare goans with whining pigs. If he is elected again in Goa than we can all assume that his electorate are indeed pigs? Digambar Kamat has publicly stated that he does not need goan voter’s votes as he has gathered enough migrants to do the honors. Now it’s time for the electorate to wake up as one of the social activist wrote on goancauses that these pigs will be coming to our doorstep to beg for votes. Goan voters, elect sons of the soil and not any crook who promises doles of ill gotten wealth. If not, then like the present lot we will have once again uneducated ministers manning PWD, Urban Development, Education, Home etc.
PWD is used to build unnecessary and fake bridges so that 20% commission is received by the minister. Urban Development is used to sell prime Goan land to foreign builders and fill their coffers. Education ministry has lost its credibility with the recent developments of declaring bungled results. Home minister has prospered due to the deliberate inefficiency of goa police in curbing drugs, prostitution, rapes, extortion etc in which the minister and his family are deeply involved and benefitted. All these portfolios have created havoc and ravaged Goa. They should know that God is watching their misdeeds. His wrath will be so severe that none of these rogues will see the light of the day. They can fool people by kissing the Bible, but not God.

Why kiss the Bible in public and have it photographed when at home they forget about the Holy Book. The media in Goa is threatened by Churchill if he or his family is not covered extensively in the press and this was recently reported by the editor of Herald. One close friend of mine who compeers shows in goa was once pulled up by Churchill for a function as my friend did not give due publicity to Churchill who attended the function like many other guests. This is the level of our politicians in Goa.

In Kuwait also we are obsessed with our MLAs for the doles. Early this year one of the MLA was brought to Kuwait to attend a football tournament, but was dismayed by the lack of support shown towards him by goans from Kuwait. According to the organizers their MLA was deeply hurt. The organizers failed to realize that this MLA is a non entity in Goan politics and they foolishly expected goans to grace his presence in Kuwait. In Goa these types of MLAs organize rallies and meetings by doling the attendees, but it does not happen in Kuwait. When people fail miserably in their organizational capabilities they seek support from these failed politicians for the dole and then cry hoarse when rebutted by general public.

In Kuwait we have goans who crave to be photographed in company of the visiting politicians and then publish it on self glorified print media and internet forums thereby putting real goans in Kuwait to shame. In Kuwait we have mutants who attend fully sponsored functions in Kuwait and outside and proclaim themselves as goan leaders. These people are not even known in their own villages back home but here due to false coverage given to them by few internet forums and print media they call themselves goan leaders, but in reality are paupers. Print media and internet forums are being selectively used to portray these politicians as godsend. When these politicians are caught with their pants down then the same print media and internet forums go into hibernation. In fact the owners of these media print and internet forums are scared of these rogue politicians and some are even beneficiaries of their illegal dole. These media forums are least interested in our homeland affairs, but more interested in self glorification by portraying themselves as writers and social activists.

Kuwait goans from Navelim Village were up in arms four years ago against Churchill when he defeated the son of the soil Luizinho Faleiro. Now four years after, these same people are glorifying Churchill and have forgotten Luizinho Faleiro. I do not have any personal enmity with Alemaos or any other politician, but I am ashamed by their deeds as we educated goans here in Kuwait are branded as illiterate by fellow Indians due to their disgusting behavior. If anyone writes and exposes the dirty deals of these politicians then knives are out to slit the writer and this done by us goans who have fallen prey to these politicians. How many of us love and care about our homeland Goa? How many of us have the guts to antagonize these politicians with our writings and deeds? How many of us are willing to awaken our brethren about these illiterate politicians who have ravaged goa? How many of us are willing to come forward and see the change in Goa? I am willing and ready. Are You?

EK SAXTTIKAR.

IT WILL BE THE AAM AADMI CALLING, NOT AMMA, NOR ANNA.

At the moment, the Congress government at the centre looks to be staggering and going around in circles, trying to find it’s own tail in broad daylight, in handling the issue of corruption, which has stretched and swelled in it’s own ranks and foundations and even the handling of the old army boy, Anna Hazzare, certainly lacked prudence, as well as foresight and has indeed left much to be desired. A party of stalwarts and legends in Indian Politics, Congress has been slipshod and incompetent and very much ineffective, to say the least.

Right from Independence, the Congress has been smeared in scams and controversies but in the last decade, it has escalated into a free for all orgy, where not just crores but thousand of crores have been waylaid, siphoned and redirected through the political conduits into their own personal holdings in India as well as abroad, which has now become the major caused of social and political turmoil in India.

Over the years corruption has reached unprecedented heights in India and our Political and our bureaucratic Babus, have been wholly and solely responsible for the ascendance this unholy malevolence. If not for the “ghaplas” and “gotalas” the old army man, Anna Hazzare would not have been heard off, but today whole India is moved into a tsunami, supporting his fight against this social and economic evil. There may be thousands like me, who have high regards for Anna, but is this the process and progress of a healthy democracy ? Will people have to take to the streets every time they want to voice their fears and concerns, putting the lives of innocent people at stake ? Is the end result more important than the means to get there ?

On one side we all say Anna jai ho ! In support of Anna against corruption but on the other side, we still elect the same corrupt elements for a few notes and goodies. How is it, that the very same people baying against corruption one minute, loose their pragmatism the next ? The corrupt elements are not new, they have been elected term after term by none other than our corrupt selves, so what logic do we espouse in supporting Anna against corruption, if we ourselves are corrupt in electing the corrupt ? What good will it do if we have a fortress of a Bill but elect the same Johns from the brothel ?

A lot of luminaries say that even with the implementation of the Lokpal Bill can anyone guarantee that corruption will cease to exist ? I don’t think even Anna would be able to answer that in the affirmative. There is no doubt that we need a strong Lokpal Bill, but more than that, first, we need incorruptible Indians, because without incorruptible Indians there just cannot be incorruptible elements in the Government, it is only because we are corrupt that we have corrupt politicians and corrupt bureaucrats. So no Lokpal Bill will change the system if we ourselves don’t change. Like Gandhi-ji said let’s be the change that want to be.

It amuses me to no end, when the PM of our country says, Lokpal will not stop corruption, a statement from a renowned, revered and respected personality, whom people still believe to be incorruptible though a lot has been said about his spine or rather the lack of it in handling corruption. The Home minister says that laws are not made in parks in a democracy but in Parliament, right, but when the Parliament itself is desecrated and it’s sanctity reduced to that of a brothel by its very inhabitants, what are the people suppose to do ? If people have the right to elect our babus to Parliament, they also have the right to show their displeasure too. It may not be the best way but may be the only way left at their disposal.

Corruption in India will not be blown out like a candle in an instance, it will take a long process to change the present opaque system and a strong Lokpal Bill can be just the jump-start that needs to get the process moving forward, rest can follow and if we all Indians can change our mindset and be incorruptible ourselves, it will not be impossible to weed out corruption from India and the same goes for our beloved Goa.

I would like to remind our Home Minister and all his political and bureaucratic Babus that if things do not change and continue as they are and if push comes to shove, it will not be Amma calling from the hospital, nor Anna from Tihar jail, but the Aam Aadmi from the street, do not ever underestimate the power of the people, world around has been witnesses to it in recent times, which India and Goa could very well do without !

WHO WILL WIN IN NAVELIM? CHURCHILL OR LUIZINHO OR AVERTANOS?

By Nisser Dias.
18th August 2011

Does Churchill Alemao have an uphill task against Luizinho and Avertano in the forthcoming elections?

With the elections to the general assembly in Goa fast approaching politicians – rejected or otherwise are not only preparing grounds to contest but also pampering respective high and low commands to allot them the tickets to contest. It is not that they will not contest if not given a party ticket. They will contest independently or what politicians like Churchill Alemao calls on ‘people’s ticket’.

The scene will unfold in all the assembly constituencies as the elections get nearer. But the picture in delimited Navelim constituency has got clearer with former chief minister Luizinho Faleiro showing his willingness to make a come-back in local politics. This former legislator had withdrawn completely from public life for the last five years after his defeat at the hands of Churchill Alemao. Infact Faleiro in his own words had said in 2008 that he had taken a ‘sanyas’ from politics. With election at the doorsteps he seems to be waking up from hibernation and has made his intention clear of contesting against his bête noire Churchill Alemao. The third person in the fray is supposed to be Avertano Furtado – a close ally of Faleiro and a former goalkeeper of Churchill Brothers. Therefore an interesting triangular match to represent Navelim constituency is on the cards between a football team owner, a former footballer and a smooth operator.

Of course with the victory of Churchill Alemao over Luizinho Faleiro at the lasting hustings constituents of the old Navelim constituency comprising of villages of Varca, Orlim, Carmona, Cavelossim and Navelim had actually jumped from the frying pan to the fire. At the same time anti-incumbency had played a major role in dethroning Faleiro. For a long time, leaders were not forthcoming to contest against him till Churchill came along and changed the tide. So much so that even the BJP which has a vote bank of close to 4500 transferred their votes to him by not fielding a candidate against him. Churchill victory margin was over 4500. Which indicated that Navelim constituents needed a change, unfortunately the change did not bring about any constructive development in the constituency. During the erstwhile Luizinho Faleiro’s reign the main state highways in the constituency would get a fresh coat of premix carpet every five years, which we have not seen during the current five years rule. Of course Churchill has installed reflectors on the either sides of the road throughout his constituency at huge costs. Its golden glow infuses life even in the most tired motorist, but then gold is known to do that to people and whose knows it better then Varca strong man. Another of his achievement is to allow electrification of ornamental street lights installed during the fag end of Luizinho’s term and that too on his birthday. Initially for almost two years Churchill tried to block electrification of these lights questioning, who would pay the bill. Surely it would not come from his pocket as the tax payer would be made to foot it anyway. Of course he can be credited of building a bridge between Varca and Telaulim.

Besides fulfilling this aspect on his election manifesto, Churchill Alemao has done a volte facie on Mopa airport, six laning of national highway, solving the problems between tourist taxi drivers and tour operators. Infact Navelim MLA has inflicted more harm by distancing his voters from himself by blatantly supporting builders and developers against the wishes of his constituents.
Coming to Luizinho Faleiro he seems to have used the last five years not to lick his wounds, but to build a strong rapport with the bigwigs in the Congress at the centre. To add to that he let the Navelim constituents decide for themselves the difference between his reign and Churchill’s rule by maintaining a distance. Of course his hand in backroom politics could be seen when former Tourism minister and Benaulim NCP MLA, Mickky Pacheco filed a disqualification petition before the Speaker, which is yet to be decided. That Pacheco tried to withdraw it is a different matter. Then there are rumours that Faleiro played a major role in sticking to the decision of FAME (Foundation for Advanced Management of Elections) disqualifying Valanka Alemao as a candidate for the post of Youth Congress president. Ofcourse in no way Valanka can be considered as a role model for the youth of Goa as there are too many controversies dogging her popularity. Nonetheless, in no way am I of the opinion that Faleiro is a paradigm of virtues. But can politicians ever be?

That leaves the constituents of Navelim with a fresh face and a green horn in politics Avertano Furtado. This probable candidate can match Churchill Alemao with muscle power because of his security business. It would be not out of place to remind the voters that Avertano had provided muscle flexing, armed bouncers for an Education Fest organized by the government in Varca in 2005 during Luizinho’s tenure as Education minister. If having money and muscle power to contest assembly election as the only criteria then Furtado qualifies for it.

Basically Avertano is a shy person who is not very interactive. A person whose oratory skills are yet to known as he has not addressed any public meetings. As elections nears Churchill and Luizinho will start playing their stuck-record of development and their vision, but voters are yet to know what Avertano has to offer. It seems that he held back from openly endorsing his candidature as his close friend Luizinho Faleiro did not give the go-ahead. A leader should have self confidence and conviction to bring about a change but if godfathers are sought then the person shows the qualities of opporturnism. Avertano is also a parent of an unaided school in Margao wherein the management has violated Goa School Education Act and Rules. Parents have raised a banner of protest and even approached the High Court however Avertano has not even lent support to the parents lest voiced his opinion about commercialization of Education. So far he has acted as a silent spectator. People need leaders who will take genuine issues and debate it in Legislative Assembly in a bid to alleviate grievances of the people and stamp, endorse and enforce the law of the land and not be a mere onlooker.

We need to elect candidates who have the courage to fight the existing corruption and communalism. We need candidates who will face the tide instead of flow with it and we need legislators who are willing to undo the mess we are currently in. The constituents of Navelim should decide who among these three have the qualities and will abide by it.

ANNA HAZARE & ANTI-CORRUPTION.

The great patriot and architect of Indian Constitution Dr Ambedcar once said when he could not bear the humiliation directed against his law caste people, “IF THERE IS A CLASH BETWEEN MY PEOPLE ON ONE SIDE AND MY COUNTRY BHARAT ON THE OTHER SIDE, I WILL SUPORT MY PEOPLE AND OPPOSE MY BHARAT”.

On the basis of this statement I say “If there is a clash between India on one side and fight against corruption on the other side, I will oppose India but fight against corruption in India”

The value of independence is become a big joke in India in the midst of all round corruption and the benefits of independence and liberation are better enjoyed by those who are in the promotion of corruption supported by Congressmen and Congress Government. For this reason during the last half a century Congress has kept the Lokpal Bill in Cold Storage. Thanks to Anna Hazare, Lokpal Bill otherwise would have gone into extinction.

The Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh is a toothless tiger, he does not show the qualities normally inherited in Sardars. He is a coward, just a mouthpiece of rogue Congressmen. If he is brave like a real Sardarji he would include his office too in the purview of Lokpal Bill along with persons of higher judiciary. In case his wishes are not acceded, he would have thrown his resignation on the face of Sonia Gandhi and come out of the rot that India is now undergoing. Having such a weak premier is not only a shame on all Indians but more on the Sikh community which is normally considered as bold and daring citizens of India.

By piloting this movement against corruption, Anna Hazare is become the mouthpiece of every Indian who is opposing corruption. Anna Hazare is not for himself only but he is for all Indians who are thinking to fight against corruption. I am also thinking to fight against corruption but not in a position as Anna is and precisely because of this I strongly support Anna’s campaign. What I cannot do Anna does and as such he deserves my support to clean India of the rot of corruption accumulated all over India. Likewise is the wish of all Indians for this reason the entire India stood by Anna Hazare as one unit.

After Gandhiji, no Indian leader received such a tumultuous support as Anna Hazare received. In view of this I can rightly say it is a movement for second independence for India. Because of corruption, Indians have lost their taste in independence, freedom for India is become meaningless and it looks like a joke. People in power alone enjoying thru corrupt practices benefits of freedom and independence. Thru their massive support to Anna’s movement against corruption, people in India and Indians abroad declared that “Anna Hazare is also our voice and as such Government of India must pay heed to this voice”.

By acceding to the voice of the people thru Anna’s movement, Government of India will not show the sign of weakness, on the contrary Government of India will show it boldness by acceding to the demands of Anna. If the government of India is the government of the people, for the people and by the people, then government of India must show courage and give in to the demands of Anna Hazare.

Every person involved in this movement is a true Indian and that it is so, he carries Indian and not Pakistani or Chinese Flags in the demonstrations showing his patriotism towards India. In view of this they cannot be called anti-Indians as Indira Gandhi falsely called her Emergency opponents.

To make this movement still powerful, the celebrities from the Film Industry and Cricketing world if they are interested in the good of their country should also lend their all round support to Anna Hazare’s anti corruption movement. Where are the Gavaskars, Tendukars, Dhonis, Kapildevs and others gone now? They have no power to think what is right and what is wrong? It is not enough to show their patriotism to India from Cricket field, they must also show their patriotism by opposing antipatriotic activities going on in India thru corruption promoted by the Congress Government.

The end of America’s involvement in Vietnam War was hastily brought by the anti- Vietnam war crusade carried on by the Heavyweight World Champion Boxer Muhammed Ali.

The end of dictatorship in Brazil brought hastily by the campaign of Brazilian soccer team captain Socrates when he carried a strong campaign from the soccer field for Democracy in Brazil.

Where are the Bollywood artistes gone now? Do Amitabh Bacchan like corruption? What about Sharuk Khan and others who on the screen show that they are for corruption free India? Their silence now at this moment is unwarranted. IF THEY ARE PATRIOTIC Indians then they must fight anti patriotic corruption system prevalent in India.

Finally it is a time now for all the to retired persons no only from Police Department but also from Army, Navy and Air force to come of their seclusion and openly declare their support for Ana’s campaign. Kiran Bedi has done wonderful job by actively and openly showing her support to Anna. We need more Kiran Bedis now to awaken the entire India to make India corruption free. Where is our friend Julio Ribeiro gone now?

KUWAIT GOANS CONDEMN ANNA HAZARE'S ILLEGAL ARREST.

YESTERDAY writing in this forum, I showed my support to Anna Hazare and solidarity to his movement on behalf of all my like minded Goans in Kuwait.

TODAY in the same manner I strongly condemn his arrest early in the morning from his residence by the Government of India machinery. His arrest was unwarranted, illegal and immoral. It reminds me of the illegal arrests of opposition leaders includng of JP during the Emergency by the Congress Government headed by Indira Gandhi with a midnight knock at the doors of the arrestees. With the arrest of Anna Hazare, it looks Emergency is going to re-emerge in India.

Anna Hazare's movement represents the will of the entire Indian populace longing for uncorrupt governance in India. Government of India is in the hands of rogues for this reason it does not want to cleanse the system of corruption.

Anna Hazare's movement is the third movement of India after Gandhiji's and JP's movements attracting support from all Indians. Anna Hazare was a mediocre figure in India till recently concentrating his activities at one corner of India but thru this movement and thru his arrest he is become an Icon in India. We need him to bring changes in India.

I support his movement on behalf of all my like minded Kuwait Goans and strongly condemn his arrest and detention.

A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.
