KUWAIT LIBERATION DAY MARKED IN GOA.

Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center on Thursday, 26th of this month, marked the liberation day of Kuwait by holding a public meeting at Goa Chamber of Commerce Conference Hall, Panjim, Goa, attended by all segments of Goans, starting at 10.30 AM. The meet started with playing of National Anthems of Kuwait and India respectively followed by speeches delivered by Elvino Rodrigues, Manuel Fernandes, Fr. Gabriel Dias, Philip Dias and the Chief Guest Prof. Sergio Carvalho.  Peggy Pereira proposed the Vote of Thanks while the Chief of Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center,  A. Veronica Fernandes compeered the proceedings.

Speakers at the dais

In his speech, Elvino Rodrigues gave a brief history of the activities of G-K.S.C. in Goa and in Kuwait and how it gained goodwill for Goans in Kuwait. He especially stressed on the excellent work A. Veronica performed single handedly in the promotion of goodwill between Goans and Kuwaitis thru the activities of G-K.S.C. Fr. Gabriel Dias once a resident priest of Kuwait Church spoke very philosophically on the subject of Pains of invasion suffered by all those affected by the invasion.  Manuel Fernandes spoke on the subject of the benefits of our employment in Kuwait while Philip Dias spoke on the new association of Gulf Goan Returnees which is being formed under the initiative of A. Veronica Fernandes.  Preliminary work has already been done and shortly it will be registered with the appropriate authority and membership drive will be initiated to involve in it Gulf Goan returnees in Goa.
                                                           A section of the attendees

Prof Sergio Carvalho in his powerful speech which was listened with rapt attention by the audience, highlighted on the ill effects on Goa since the ouster of Portuguese from Goa. He lamented that in the name of liberation which is a misnomer while correct word is a Conquest as per the Supreme Court of India, all suppression is imposed on Goans by the conquerors even to the extent of denying special status to Goa which he felt Centre will never give.

A.     Veronica Fernandes said that on 19th December 1961 Goa was not liberated but invaded by the government of India. He said the liberation of Kuwait is totally different from Goan liberation where we have no true freedom to decide our affairs.  He said the first Goan to fight for Goa’s liberation were Pintos from Candolim thru the Pintos Revolt initiated by the Catholic Priests.

It was great to see two Kuwait Goans, namely Mario Rebello and Raymond  D’Sa coming from Kuwait to attend this meeting while many other Goan visitors from Kuwait were seen drinking in the Bars and Tavernas like Bebdes.  Many of the ex Kuwait Goans who tasted Chicken and Lobsters only after going to Kuwait like born “Beiman” refrained from attending this Meet.  Still others who made money from Kuwait and acquired benefits from Kuwait refused to attend to this meeting when they gained so much from Kuwait employment.  On top of it they claim to be Christians when they fail to perform Christian principles. Overwhelming majority of Kuwait Goans are such rubbish Beiman, many of them  got girls to marry only because of their employment in Kuwait. If it was not for Kuwait many of us would rot in Goa unwanted.

As usual, the real Beiman Padris and Madris even after receiving so much of benefits from Kuwait failed to show their faces in the meeting hall. These Beiman Padris and Madris are possessed by the Devils for this reason they acted as traitors to Kuwait benefits.

It was a pity that none from the Tiatro circle attended this meet, especially from among those who worked and earned so much in Kuwait. And also those who visited Kuwait and gained so much from Kuwait.

MEET TO MARK KUWAIT LIBERATION DAY IN GOA.

This is a paid announcement from Herald dt. 22.2.15

On 26th of this month, Kuwait marks the 24th anniversary of its liberation from Iraqi invasion.  On 2nd August 1990 the dictator Saddam Hussein of Iraq invaded Kuwait by sending its mighty military that walked over Kuwait and kept Kuwait under its occupation for 7 long months till Kuwait finally was liberated by the coalition force of innumerable countries headed by USA.

One of the communities that very badly affected by this invasion of Kuwait was the Goan community having around 20,000 thousand members in Kuwait at the time of invasion, employed in different professions, a very few of them were engaged in business as well.  They were all earning good amount of money compared to what they would get in Goa.  Because of these earnings they built their empires - small, mediocre and big, because of their employment in Kuwait overwhelming majority of Kuwait Goans gave best of everything to their family members.  Though the majority of the Kuwait Goans are coming from low and middle class background yet because of Kuwaiti Dinars earning, they gave best of social standing for their family members gaining good respect in society.

Some of the palatial houses, bunglows, elite education for the children,  sophisticated life and enhanced social standing would not have been possible without employment of many of us in Kuwait. It was Kuwait that made many of us as somebody at least in life.   Kuwait is a rare place in the world where you are made as somebody out of nobody otherwise as a non-matriculate Goan you will never get an opportunity to work in the Bank in Goa but in Kuwait yes.  A car cleaner in Goa by showing his practical smartness in Kuwait can reach even to the position not only of a Foreman but also of a Service Advisor. By their remittance the economy of Goa was enhanced leading benefits to all Goans. By working in Kuwait an ordinary Goan became extra ordinary Goan.

We the direct beneficiaries of Kuwait employment are very grateful to Kuwait especially of its liberation on 26th February in 1991.  Because of its liberation most of us got our jobs back, our end service benefits for the period ending 1.8.1990 and many other things otherwise Saddam Hussein would made us desperate. Out of this gratitude we organize this meet on 26th of this month to further the goodwill already existing between Goans and Kuwait. There will be many Kuwait Goans on vacation now, they must not miss this opportunity to come for this meet. And  those whose families are based in Goa they must tell their family members to be present for this meet because they are greater beneficiaries of the goodwill between Goa and Kuwait.

The benefits of Kuwait’s liberation were enjoyed by others as well, like visiting Tiatrists, Priests, Nuns, Konkani promoters, recipients of our donations and other social activists and many more. They are all invited now to show their solidarity with us to Kuwait by attending the Meet on 26th of this month in Panjim at 10.00 AM, at Chamber of Commerce Hall, 3rd Floor., Opposite Azad Maidan.

DEMOLITION OF SHACKS AT CANDOLIM BEACH.

During Portuguese time the Candolim Beach was very clean having its natural beauty intact.  There was no hindrance of any Shacks there.  The first plain Shack was erected somewhere in 1968 by one local Joaquim Lopes where he was selling Tea, Soft Drink and some eatables like Sandwiches.  Besides this there was one Restaurant “Ceu Mar” built by Mr. Britto.  In this Restaurant  there were two  rooms for rent.

Gradually in seventies due to increase in tourist traffic, somewhere in 1976/77 about half a dozen Shacks were erected by the locals only when there was no Tourism Department nor CRZ formalities in existence because till such time commercialization of tourism as it is now was not in practice.

In Eighties due to heavy commercialization of tourism, Shacks on the entire Candolim Beach started mushrooming when terms like Tourism Dept. and CRZ became audible and they started exercising their control over all the activities on the Beach.  The people involved in running this Shack business were all locals coming from low income category.  There are about  100 Shacks spread all over the Candolim Beach owned by the locals only who earned their livelihood thru this business.

The recent spate of demolition of Shacks by the Tourism department on Candolim Beach has put the Shack owners out of their normal track thereby instilling fear into their minds and hearts because of the fear of demolition of their Shacks. Those whose official paper work is not in order are more afraid of losing their only mode of earning their sustenance. The recent demolition of Shacks in Candolim with the excuse that they are illegal has created a very bad image of the government of Goa in general and Tourism Dept. in particular. Tourism Dept. should have stopped these illegal Shacks in the beginning only instead of waiting for the penultimate month of the season ending and thereby killing the huge investment put into this business by the affected Shack owners.  Heaven would not fall if this demolition operation was stayed especially in view of the people involved in this business are all Goans.  What is the use of this government if it does not give preferential treatment to the locals?

The demolition operation of the Shacks done on Candolim Bbeach was very ruthless, the guest tourists mainly the Westerners were not even allowed to have their meals finished eating.  They were evicted from their dining tables as if they were Jews in Naziland. Their beach beds were cut when they were still lying on the beds.  It was totally an inhuman operation  devoid of humane attributes.  These tourists are very much hurt  by the way they were shabbily treated by the demolition squad, these tourists pumped in lot of money into Tourism industry of Goa thereby enriching Goan economy and since this is the case, they naturally deserve decent treatment without any fear of trouble for them.  They want to spend their time peacefully on the Beach without any disturbance, they are not bothered whether the Shacks where they eat and drink are legal or illegal, it is not their business to know this.  All they want is peaceful atmosphere to enjoy their stay in Goa. Some of these tourists have even decided to prevent their Western colleagues from coming to Goa thus giving a strong jolt to Tourism in Goa.  As it is, Tourism boom is waning in Goa and at this juncture government of Goa should do something to give a push forward to Tourism promotion even by eradicating the license system for erecting Shacks.

These tourists are coming to Goa regularly since a long time now and as such they have built a strong rapport between them and the Shack owners who are doing their best to give very good service and treatment to their guests.  But now, these tourists numbering over a thousand have vowed never to return back to Goa from next season to face the humiliation of demolition squad of Tourism department  and of local Police.  Some of these tourists are coming to Goa only to maintain their friendly link and rapport they created with these friendly Shack owners. They patronize Goan tourism only because of these poor Goan Shack owners who promote Goan tourism beautifully where the inputs of Tourism Department and its minister is almost a Big Zero.

WHEN THE LATE WILLIAM DE CURTORIM ASSAULTED BY CONGRESS SUPPORTERS.

According to the Press reports appeared in the print media, Congress Party in Goa condemned the move of the BJP government to introduce censorship on Tiatro.  Good decision but one must also know what the Congress supporters did to the late William de Curtorim a few years back when William de Curtorim rendered a solo in Candolim  criticizing the local Congress leader for his anti-Goan activities in the locality.

While on his way home after finishing the Tiatro along with his colleagues, a few supporters of Congress somewhere in Saligao forcibly stopped the Bus carrying the Tiatro troupe including poor William de Curtorim and physically and mercilessly assaulted William in the presence of all other troupe members.

By taking law into their hands the Congress supporters suppressed the freedom of speech of Tiatrist William de Curtorim.  Neither local Congress leader nor Luizin Faleiro condemned this brutality thereby indicating Congress is as worst as BJP in Goa.  They borth are two sides of the same coin.

KONKANI ALBUM "SASNNACHEA SASNNAK".

As an admirer and ardent fan of the late Tiatrist Nelson Afonso, I must say Eureka – Eureka for getting an opportunity to listen to the Audio CD – Konkani Album - released by his son Tomy –  popularly known as Jr.Nelson.  It is a masterpiece of history, wisdom and boldness all woven in the songs rendered by Jr. Nelson individually and in Trio describing the greatness of his late father as a Tiatrist.  As an old timer Tiatro goer I am well aware of the events taken place then with regards to the stories mentioned in these songs.  I feel all the old timer Tiatro goers must not miss the opportunity to listen this CD.  My admiration goes to Jr. Nelson for inheriting the wisdom and boldness of his father in hitting hard to those who he felt done injustice to his father.

Front cover of CD
His late father Nelson Afonso had distinction of even instilling fear into the mind and heart of the mighty Dayananda Bandodcar and in fact Bandodcar was not afraid of 12 UG members in the Legislative Assembly but was afraid only of Nelson’s Trio.  This was because Nelson’s Trio could do from the Stage what 12 gigantic members of UG could not do in the Assembly.  That was the mighty intellectual power of Nelson’s Trio. Besides, the late Nelson Afonso was the innovative Tiatrist who had unique distinction of staging Tiatros first time on Moving Stage (Dolorosa Tiatro) and Sliding Stage as well.  His compositions were of very high grade as far as story, philosophy and decency are concerned.  His best political Trio was rendered immediately following the Opinion Poll in praise of Goan voters saying “XIKKO MARLO PANALA  ANI DOPKO DILO FULALA”. His best Tiatros were “NATIONALIST, ALMAS DO OUTRO MUNDO, GHORABO and BONDDOLIST. As a human being, Nelson Afonso was a very kind hearted and simple man without having artificial pride.
                                                             Back cover of CD

During the Portuguese rule in Goa many times I saw him singing duets with Anthony D’Souza hitting hard the then mighty Bamon Bhatkarshahi.  He was doing the role of a female since he had beautiful attractive looks. After the invasion of Goa by Bharat, thru his initiative a Tiatro troupe called “Young Stars of Goa” was formed somewhere in 1962/1963 and he was the de facto leader of this group which was just an institution by itself. This group lasted till 1975 when in an internal coup piloted by Conception and Anthony, splitted their mighty Trio keeping Nelson  out.  Shocked over the ingratitude towards him over his ouster by his other two companions whom he brought into limelight, Nelson rendered a beautiful song in 1976/77 saying what  good he did for their Trio.   Because of its superlative quality he was gifted everywhere he rendered this song with some amount of money by the members of the audience. This song one can listen thru the voice of his son in the Album “Sasnnachea Sasnnak” (last song).

In the history of Tiatro the first known Trio was formed by Kid Boxer-Young Menezes-Minguel Rod popularly known as Kid-Young-Rod and this one Trio was enough then to fill the “Mattou” or Hall to capacity.  But gradually because of the fame of this trio, somebody from the Tiatro fraternity became jealous and piloted the split of this trio and took Minguel Rod apart  leaving Kid and Young separately and forming a new quartet consisting of Minguel Rod-Jacinto Vaz- C. Alvares-Alexinho de Candolim.

Conception-Nelson-Anthony Trio was the second known popular Trio on Konkani Stage but more powerful than the first one.   This trio was singing songs mostly on the local politics of which type none of the current Tiatrists sing.  For this reason the memory of this most memorable Trio which served Goa and Goan causes so well  and was formed by Nelson himself,  will remain forever.

Coming back to the Album “Sasnnachea Sassnak” by Jr. Nelson which was released a year back, consists of 13 beautiful songs comprising Solos, Duets, Trios and Quartets rendered by Jr. Nelson, Com. Selvy, Sabina, Felcy, Cyril Ferrao, Sylvester Vaz, Tony de Ribanda, Saby de Divar, Salu de Loutolim, Joaquim Cabral and Jr. Conception & Jr. Souza Boy.

All the songs are very good but some are the best namely Jr. Nelson’s title song “Sasnnachea Sasnnak”, Trio “Tiatristancho Vavr” by Jr. Conception-Jr. Nelson-Jr. Souza Boy, Solo “Sothache Ulhas” by Jr. Nelson,  Solo “Pope Francis” by Felcy, a romantic solo “Tukach Ravtam” by melodious singer Cyril Ferrao and a comedy duet by Selvy and Sabina.  The songs all but last one were scripted by Jr. Nelson.  Musical score was beautifully provided by Jack Rebello & James Vaz.

It was nice on the part of Jr. Nelson to introduce first time in this Album the sons of the late Conception and Souza Boy and both sing well like their fathers.

TOURIST UNFRIENDLY GOA.

In a shocking incident today 18th February 2015,  two Shacks, on Lucky 7 and the other Paradise,  at Candolim Beach were demolished at about 2.00 pm by the demolishing squad from Tourism Department in co-operation with the local Police squad.  After completing the demolition, the local MLA Michael Lobo reached on the scene and stopped further demolition by intervening directly into this matter.
According to the demolition squad, the demolished Shacks are unlicensed ones but according to the Shack owners they already have licenses to run their Shacks and they even paid the license fees for three years.  In view of this the government should have refrained from touching these Shacks.
One of the demolished Shacks

Both the owners of these demolished Shacks are Goans and they are totally dejected the way the demolishing squads have ruthlessly did this operation in an inhuman manner with lightning speed.  Good that Michael Lobo reached on the scene in time otherwise with the same excuse some more Shacks  would have been demolished. If these Shacks are illegal, the action should have been taken in the beginning only.  Besides, advance notice for this demolition was imperative and not suddenly appearing on the scene

Another demolished Shack in total disorder

The European guests enjoying their food in these Shacks had to be evacuated and they were very much angry to see this type of harassment for the tourists.  Some of them have already declared their intention never to come back again to Goa where they say the government is Tourists Unfriendly.  Some of them have even vowed to spread the news of harassment for tourists to other Western tourists thru their network.

Seen how the Poles are cut to demolish Shacks

VALENTINE’S DAY WITH NATURE AT BIG FOOT

VALENTINE’S DAY WITH  NATURE  AT BIG FOOT

Balloons and red merchandise crowd shop windows, beckoning the viewer to a Valentine’s feast, we forward text messages, exchange gifts, plan elaborate and unforgettable dates. Amidst all this fanfare, we tend to forget Mother Nature; she who surrounds us, constantly giving us her love. ‘Nature our Valentine’ was the theme for the day at the Spice Yard at Ancestral Goa, Big Foot in Lotoulim where Valentine’s Day was celebrated with a twist. On display were different plants and trees along with their medicinal values. Guests were asked to tie ribbons around trees to establish their love for nature. The ribbons signified the symbiotic bond that humankind shares with nature. Jc. Ram Kumar Menon, Executive Vice President for Zone XI Comprising Goa and Part of Maharashtra, Mr. Mohan Sathe Zone President Zone XI and Mrs Patricia Mendonca Secretary of JCI Salcete Coastal and Members of JCI Salcete Coastal who visited Ancestral Goa also took part in the celebration, he said that this drive was an innovative and motivating way to promote such a noble cause.

CENSORSHIP ON TIATRO AND TIATRISTS.

In the most strongest terms I condemn the move of Goa government to re-impose Salazarist censorship on Tiatros and Tiatrists’ songs in Goa.  Though Portuguez rule ended from Goa almost 55 years back and brought democratic government in Goa to give right to every Goan to express himself freely yet the current BJP government in Goa thinking to curtail this freedom by introducing Censorship on Tiatros. Though during the Portuguese time Censorship was existing yet there was lot of freedom  for Tiatrists to express their views freely and they did express their views very freely on many topics except they had to control their tongues when airing their views on the topic on freedom for Goa.  Otherwise many times Tiatrists expressed their views against malfunctioning of government machinery and government departments. To oversee the conduct of the Tiatrists on this subject the Village Regidor, a Goan, was to remain present to see the Tiatro to note any infringement.

If it was not for this freedom of expression for Tiatrists,  they would not have heavily criticized from the Stage the Bamonn Bhattkarshai that was heavily leaning towards colonial regime as they alone enjoyed better dividends from the Portuguese regime in Goa. Portuguese government has given all the freedom for Tiatrists in Goa except to talk ill of the regime.  And by the way during those days every department of Goa government was functioning well leaving no room for corruption and giving no chance for Tiatrists to criticize the government.

The first Chief Minister of Goa Dayananda Bandodcar who was the strong anti-Goan Portuguese supporter had the guts  of introducing Salazarist censorship in late sixties on Goan Tiatro as a means of revenge against the late Nelson Afonso who scripted a new Tiatro “BONDOLCAR” a satirical criticsm of Bandodcar’s anti-Goan rule in Goa.  Before releasing this Tiatro, government authority in Goa stopped Nelson from staging it in this name as it looked defaming Bandodcar. Then Nelson changed its title to “BONDOLIST” and released it and staged it all over Goa. In this Tiaitro Nelson tears Bandodcar into pieces and because of his anger on Nelson, Bandodcar introduced Censorship on Tiatro in Goa.   The direct victim of this cruel censorship was the Trio of Nelson where all their Trio songs were stopped by the Censor Board during that particular period.  But as a matter of solidarity the entire Tiatrist fraternity stood behind Nelson.  There was an uproar in the Goa Assembly by the UG members and everywhere in Goa.

Then Bandodcar realized his mistake and lifted the Censorship and as a punishment for Nelson Afonso, Bandodcar introduced Entertainment Tax on Tiatro because of which the Ticket  Rate was enhanced but Tiatro goers accepted this without grumblings. Gradually to woo Nelson towards him, Bandodcar removed this Tax from Nelson’s new Tiatro “O DOLOROSA”. Yet Nelson never changed his stand on Bandodcar for his anti-Goan policy till Bandodcar’s death.  Interestingly, after his death, Nelson composed a very good song which was beautifully  rendered by his Trio in praise of Bandodcar as a human being and not as a politician.      This song  started  with  a   saying  “MELOLLEA MUNXEACHEM VAITT ULOINAE”.

Now, the latest news of introducing Censorship on Tiatro is very disturbing but Tiatrists  at this hour must remain firmly united to oppose this Censorship, if required they must be ready to knock at the door of the highest judiciary in India.  This move of Goa government is a sign of weakness and defeatism.  It also indicates the mighty power of Tiatros and the influence Tiatrists wield.  Goa government will surely condescend and accept its folly because Censorship on Tiatros will never materialize.

Meatime, Tiatrists must campaign hard against this move of government, if necessary by calling public meetings and rallies to awaken the whole Goa on this issue.  And they must know that in this hour of crisis,  Tiatro lovers like me are with them in solidarity. This is a plan of BJP to harass Christians in Goa by  imposing censorship on their cultural programme.  MLA's Caitu and Mickey  must be told in strongest terms that the next election is approaching very fast and they will have to answer to the public why they supported this Censorship while other Christian MLA's for their silence on this move will have to pay a very heavy price.

INVITE MLA MICHAEL LOBO FOR CALANGUTE PDA MEETING.

According to the open announcement made in the Church, there will be a public meeting on 16th of this month at Calangute, jointly organized by Calangute and Candolim Panchayats to decide the fate of PDA in Calangute.  Though the Government of Goa has already decided to engulf Calangute and Candolim Panchayats into North Goa PDA yet if peoples power of both these villages is strong, the decision of the government can be reversed.

Earlier Gram Sabahs of both the villages passed their respective resolutions opposing government move to merge both the Panchayats into NGPDA.  The required quorum for these meetings was based on the number of attendees and not on the number of registered voters.

Since the local MLA Michael Lobo is the focal point of this whole scenario, it should be mandatory now on the part of the 16th inst. Meeting organizers to invite him for this Meet to enlighten the villagers on the merits of PDA. So far nobody has described the good effect of PDA and in view of this many locals are waiting to know the other side of the story.  Hence, Michael Lobo’s presence for this Meet is imperative.
Secondly, the organisers of this Meet must in advance disclose the names the speakers who will speak on the subject.

CONGRATULATIONS TO AAP & KEJRIWAL.

Congratulation to Arvind Kejriwal and his team for the landslide victory gaining 67 out of 70 seats, only 3 seats for a mighty BJP party and zero for the Congress is a clear indication of silent revolutionary change in 1.2 billion strong nation a one sixth of world population in backwardness.
The level of corruption has always been a fuel for revolutionary changes during French Revolution, Bolshevik Revolution and Chinese Cultural Revolution.

AAP is the only political party in New Delhi election that focused on corruption using a grassroots movement and young voters and not dynasty, religious ideologies and power politics as means to be in governance.

The election result in New Delhi is a catalyst to Indian Governance Revolution for 21st century for change from backward to developed nation and a clear message that dynasty, religious ideologies and power politics for governance are against development and rejected in India.

Zero performance of Congress is a rejection to dynasty driven governance outdated since the French Revolution in seventeen century and not feasible solution to today’s Indian problems.

The heavily powered election campaign by mighty BJP suffered a humiliating defeat by wining only 3 out of 70 seats due to increased polarization of voters using religious sentiments and money power for communal divisions that also is outdated since the French Revolution.

The chart below was prepared when AAP entered in politics and is a clear image of revolutionary changes needed to India become a developed nation in 21st century.

AAP victory is the right step into the Silent Governance Revolution and sets an environment for major changes required to implement Ashoka Engineered Governance model a fusion of one of the best governance practices in the history with Political Engineering, an emerging technology of 21st century for Governance Revolution.

Modern engineering culture applied by Political Engineers to transform nation’s parliaments into disciplined Engineering Board Meetings eliminating power politics with democratic participation of all stakeholders for time bound solutions in governance affecting everyone in the society, to create GDP in rural/urban area for peace, development, happiness, and planet sustainability.

Let us revisit Great Emperor Ashoka Legacy and learn a lesson from his mindset and governance model that created the Golden era in the history of Indian subcontinent and analyze today’s performance and required improvement.

I’m pioneering Political Engineering for Engineered Governance, an emerging technology of 21st century a solution to continuous crises in the world due to failure to create a suitable GDP.

The epistemology of governance system found that Ashoka Governance Model and his mindset are the best in the history of humanity providing peace, development and happiness for entire Indian subcontinent that today is divided in SARC nations.

Today the failure of governance in Goa and in India initiated moral responsibility to find a solution that would take advantage of positive demographic dividend to create higher sustainable GDP from great potential of human and natural resources.

Governance of a nation is the most complex system that requires knowledge of many disciplines and also requires a leadership with a mindset for equality, fraternity and liberty to take advantage of human and natural resources from rural and urban areas to provide peace, development and happiness.

The recent success of Apr 9, 2014 - Mangalyaan, India's maiden mission to Mars, demonstrated once again the Indian brain power is capable to solve complex engineering systems with extreme precision.

The other component of governance is the leadership mindset that for hundred and thousand years in India is against equality, fraternity and liberty except during the tenure of Great Emperor Ashoka governance style that today has been totally ignored and labeled as anti-national.

Yes, Let us engage in the Ashoka wheel movement for the Silent Indian Revolution to transform India and Goa into developed nations for peace, development and happiness.

TIME TO SHOW OUR SOLIDARITY WITH DELHI CHRISTIANS.

The election in Delhi has just been concluded and according to the latest Exit Polls prediction, AAP will get the majority.  This sudden change in voters decision in favour of AAP surfaced according to one source in Delhi only because of the recent attacks on the Churches there and an arrest of priests and nuns in an inhuman and undignified manner by the BJP government machiney while they were demonstrating peacefully.  Peaceful demonstration is the right of the citizens to oppose the government’s decision of its failure to check injustice meted out to the citizens.  This is what exactly the Christians have done in Delhi a few days back.  It is said that not only the minorities got united to teach a very good lesson to the BJP’s brutality but also the majority members joined the minorities to oppose the BJP.  Unnecessary harassment for Christians will never go unpunished because Christians are peaceful people in India, even their protests against injustice are organized decently and peacefully.
It was horrible to see how the Nuns and Priests manhandled by the Delhi Police.  The whole blame for this brutality should go on the shoulders of BJP.  The main purpose of BJP in India is to liquidate minorities especially the Christians because BJP is jealous of the good work the Christians are doing in the service of humanity. What good work Christians are doing   the BJP cannot do.  I hope the echo of Delhi election will be heard in Panjim in the forthcoming election.  Christians in Panjim and other minorities residing there must emulate the example of Delhi voters.

I feel it is right time now for the Goan Christians to show our solidarity with the persecuted Christians in Delhi especially those Nuns and Priests handled and treated badly by the Delhi Police.  I also feel the Goa Church leadership at Altinho Panaji must without any fear give the lead openly to stand by our harassed brothers and sisters in Delhi by organizing a public Rally followed by a Public Meeting in Panjim.  Let Goa Church come forward and indicate its concern for what it is happening in Delhi.  At this critical hour we cannot remain immune to the suffering our Christians are undergoing in Delhi.

A few years back when Christians in North India were harassed and the Steines family members were burnt alive, we the Goan Catholics in Kuwait met the Maltese Bishop of Kuwait and briefed him of the tragic events happening in India against the Christians.  Since I was the leading man to talk to Bishop on this topic, I noticed how deeply the Bishop of Kuwait felt about the  tragic happenings in India. Then to our request he immediately agreed to organize a public meeting in Solidarity with the persecuted Christians in India, in the Church Hall (big) which was attended in big number even by the international community members and media that brought this news to the eyes of the world. Besides the Bishop of Kuwait, Indian Ambassador also attended and addressed this meeting indicating his total solidarity with the persecuted Indian Chrisitians in India.  We Goan Catholics were the only Christian community in Kuwait to raise our voice on this topic.

Since a Maltese Bishop of Kuwait took such a bold decision to show his solidarity openly with the persecuted Christians in India, I feel it is not difficult for our Bishop in Goa to emulate the example of  Kuwait Bishop. As it is, it is given to understand that the Goa Bishop is much leaning towards BJP in general and Parrikar in particular.  It is time for him now to show his real colours, i.e whether he is with anti-Christian BJP or with his Christianity.

MIRACULOUS CROSS OF CANDOLIM MANDD.

Second of February is marked as a feast day of Our Lady of Agonizante which is commonly known as “Condoi Saibinnichem Fest” celebrated on 2nd February in Candolim, at Pintos Vaddo, Asilo Chapel.  It is called Asilo Chapel because it is attached to the Asilo or Old Age House for males only existing since the Portuguese rule in Goa.  Both Asilo and Chapel are  under the control  of Provedoria, a government arm.

The Chapel of Condoi Saibinn.

Pintos Vaddo in Candolim is a world renowned place especially for intellectuals and  historians because this Vaddo gave birth to the Pintos Revolt against Portuguese even before the French Revolution and secondly because this Vaddo gave birth to the world renowned Hypnotist,  Abade Faria.  Opposite to the Asilo Chapel, about a century back the much known in Goa, the Candolim  “ Mandd” came into being.  This Mandd is known for its miraculous Cross called “ Manddailo Khuris” as shown in the picture below.  Hundreds of people of all the religions flock there with flowers in their hands to pray and ask favours from God thru Manddailo Khuris. Though this Mandd  was formed not by any individual person yet it was promoted and developed more by two individual persons, one of them was my father and the other by Jose Rodrigues (Kavllo) though others have also supported in their own ways  to develop this Mandd.

                                                            Manddailo Khuris

In the initial stages some elders from this Vaddo mainly the “Kaxttikar” manual workers were coming at that particular spot and sitting on the ground and  discussing their affairs including their personal and family affairs.  Gradually these meetings became regular feature which used to end with a small prayer.  Then these people started playing “Ghumott” music there, hence Ghumott music became a part of any function organized at the Mandd.  During those days “Bamonn Bhattkarshai” was suffering from pride complex and to show their brute power the next door Bhattkar stopped the activities of this Mandd.  Hurt by this rude action of the Bhattkar, the Mandd people cursed the Bhattkar saying “Tumguer Sath-Chouda-Ekvis”  Ceddvanch zaunk”.  Incidentally, this cursed came into reality when the Bhattkar’s wife gave birth to all the seven girls only.  Then the Bhattkar realized his folly and openly offered his apology to the Mandd.  Then only they got a boy.  Traditionally as per its history, this  Mandd is very punishing for the wrong doers.
The first Tiatro at Mandd was organized in 1946, 2nd February to be precise,  to mark the feast of Condoi  Saibinn. The proposal and initiative for this first ever Tiatro was given by my father who encouraged one Santan Fernandes known as Genddo Santan to stage his Tiatro because he was an established Tiatrist of that time at local level.

Then on the advice of my father the profit made from this Tiatro a fund was  established as Death Benefit, that is to purchase the Coffin for the dead members coming from Pintos-Araddy Vaddo only.  During those days many people could not afford a decent burial for their dead due to abject poverty because of which their burial was done thru the coffin borrowed from the Fabrica – a rented Coffin from the Fabrica.   Currently the death benefit amount is Rs. 20,000/-

My father during those days was the rare man among all  the members of Mandd and he was the most intelligent as well having a very good vernacular educational background and fluency in spoken Portuguese language and hence he was a big asset for the Mandd then. The intelligence of those people of the Mandd can be gauged from the contents and clauses of the Rules and Regulations of the Mandd which looked as if they are framed by the great legal luminaries.  They were born genii. I salute them.   Because  of these Rules there is a system still existing at the Mandd and every member is bound to act within the boundary of these Rules to avoid disciplinary action and castigation, even dismissal.  In the earlier stages due to their backwardness educationally and socially, some of the members were acting like uncivilized and uncultured men and to control such members the intelligent members drafted these rigid Rules.    Some of the Rules state that “No to use foul and vulgar language at the Mandd, No to raise one’s voice,  no to show physical aggressiveness while discussing any topic, no to raise the topic of one’s Caste, no to talk on personal matters of the invividuals and etc”.

The feast of Manddailo Khuris is celebrated by the administrators of this Mandd by staging a Tiatro there. Since a long time now it is a regular event at Candolim Mandd which starts at 10.30 PM approximately but preceded by playing of traditional Gumott music.  This Ghumott music consisting of three traditional instruments namely “Ghumott, Madyem & Kanxaem”, starts  from two centres, one in Araddy next to my house and the other in Pintos Vaddo only, about 1000 metres away from the Mandd location, approximately 3 hours before the start of the Tiatro.  This music is called “Sunvari” coming from two different directions as said above and converge at the particular location about 100 metres from the Mandd.

After reciting prayers there and playing the Gumott music with gusto for about 30 minutes, the entire Sunvari walks up to the Mandd by playing its music and with the rousing welcome by the people attending the Tiatro, finally enters the Tiatro Stage to the total excitement and pleasure of the people gathered there.  They then play their traditional music for about 30 minutes on the Stage and after a short prayer for the success of the event, the first part ends and the second part that is Tiatro then begins.

From the time of the first ever Tiatro in 1946, the Stage preparation for the Mandd Tiatro was organized by Jose Rodrigues and Lights thru Petromax was provided by my father, rented for this purpose from the neighboring village till electricity came.

It is said, “my enemy is within me” and this was what had exactly happened in 1964.  Some people wanted to destroy and liquidate the Mandd out of jealousy for the smooth running of the Mandd affairs under my father and Jose Rodrigues and their likeminded members. In 1963 following the Chinese incursion and grabbing of a vast tract of land by China, Morarjee Desai the Finance Minister of India introduced the Gold Control by which the pure gold was taken by the government as a means to boost the foreign exchange.

One of the major advantages for the members of the Mandd provided by the elders was the facility of Loans by mortgaging their gold.  Thru this loan many of the members fulfilled their personal financial obligations.  Since this was the case, the Box containing Mandd money and the mortgaged gold kept at  the residence of one reliable member, annually brought to the Mandd for the annual general body meeting and if necessary to take inventory openly. This Wooden Box had three Keys with three different members and only they could open it.  In order to create a disaster of the Mandd and also to create problem for the Mandd leadership for keeping the gold against the prevailing law, some members informed Police to confiscate the gold and arrest the leaders.  When the Police Inspector in a civilian dress came to Candolim Tinto before proceeding to the Mandd, he met both my elder brothers who happened to be the good friends of that Police Inspector.  When that Police Inspector  confided in my brothers the purpose of his visit, my brothers impressed upon him to stop proceeding further and brought him to my place for the Lunch.  In this way, the tragic incident thru the mighty power of miraculous Manddailo Khuris was averted and Mandd existence was saved. Immediately those who were found guilty  of this foul play were shown the exit door of the Mandd.
