Re: A Goan in Bahrain

"A Goan in Bahrain"

Try the Young Goans Club. It's located in the building housing the Konkan Singers Club which is opposite the Karnataka Club. It's a stone's throw away from the Sacred Heart Church.

Hope this helps.

Please post here later, should you find this information useful.

‘Ghutt’ VCD a suspense mystery murder thriller

‘Ghutt’ VCD a suspense mystery murder thriller
Daniel F. de Souza, Goa

The memories of late C.Alvares the evergreen hero and doyen of the konkani stage are being kept alive by his daughter Capucina Alvares by producing his works on CDs and VCD. The latest offering of C. Alvares Films in association with Ashterwayne Productions is a video film ‘Ghutt’ which is directed by Capucina Alvares. The story of the film is incidentally adapted from the super hit drama ‘Axea’ of C. Alvares.

‘Ghutt’ is a story of an expatriate Goan family returning to their roots in Goa. Steve (Kevin D’Mello) , his handicapped sister Nikita (Jessica) and their mother Mrs. Leonor (Jessie Dias) make up this happy family together with their African maid servant Rosemarie. Steve is an adopted son but he is never discriminated in any manner and showered with all love and affection. But when it comes to Steve disclosing his desire to marry his lady love Sherijane (Anita), the mother is not in favour of his choice and brings a strong objection to this alliance. But, nevertheless in his sister Nikita, Steve has a strong supporter. Then there is a family friend Tanya (Shruti Naik) who secretly loves Steve for too long. Steve however is not aware of this. Steve defies his mother and marries Sherijane. On the wedding itself the newly wedded couple is engulfed in a serious tragedy with the suspicious death of Sherijane after she consumes a glass of cold drink.

‘Ghutt’ a murder mystery from the very beginning to the end is then brought to its logical conclusion with the arrival of private detective Inspector Braganza (Wilmix) and his team of able investigators. The murder mystery is solved after a very detailed and systematic investigation and the murderer is proved beyond any doubt by Inspector Braganza..

Comedy supreme Humbert brings a high degree of comedy and laughter in this film with his natural pranks as the cook Pedro. Brenda as Rosemaria supports him in his comic endeavours. The film has a couple of songs too. The Music is by Babush and the videography and editing is by Domnic Dias. While the film is captured at good outdoor locations as well as indoors, the ending of the story however appears to be a little too abrupt and makes one ponder whether the murder was really justified in the first place?

While all the actors play their respective roles well, Steve appears a little too raw in the role of the young lover opposite talented Anita who is very spontaneous, graceful and natural. While veteran actor Jessie wins your heart with her defining role as a strict mother, her role is comparatively small and the potential of this versatile and great State Award winning artist is under utilized in this film. Wilmix as Inspector Braganza is very convincing and natural and role fits him like a glove.

Do pick up an original copy today to add to your library, for ‘Ghutt’ is an interesting and watchable murder mystery thriller that will hold you in suspense from beginning till the end. With a little bit of more creativity and imagination as well as a little more attention to the direction and other minor details, this VCD could have still been taken to even greater heights.

Ben Evangelisto giving final touches to PEZ

Ben Evangelisto giving final touches to PEZ
Daniel F. de Souza, Goa

In June 2005 when Anil Kumar staged M. Boyer’s ‘Sonvsar Sudhorlo’ a masterpiece of the mid-seventies it was a real treat to the tiatr lovers. The show revived back sweet memories of the golden era of tiatr of the seventies and eighties. People flocked back to the theaters like never before. Director Anil Kumar no doubt was a satisfied man for having tasted sweet success with this experiment. But, one actor who stole the limelight in ‘Sonvsar Sudhorlo’ and won the hearts of the tiatr lovers was none other than character comedian Ben Evangelisto who played the key role of late Jacinto Vaz to the hilt. The popularity of Ben Evangelisto as a character comedian attained a new heights with his near imitation of late Jacinto Vaz.

But soon thereafter in early 2006 Ben Evangelisto migrated to the United Kingdom in search of greener pastures. While there in UK, somewhere in July 2006, he staged his much acclaimed drama ‘Chondrim’ for the expatriate Goans. He also took part in Konkani Musical shows in different parts of Europe and Canada with Lorna and other Goan artistes. But, Ben did not act for any other director in Goa or elsewhere in India since the time he did the role of late Jacinto Vaz in ‘Sonvsar Sudhorlo’.

As a director Ben has tasted sweet success with his intellectual tiatr ‘Devak Zai Zalear’ a contemporary tale that first time experimented with a unique subject of surrogate mother-ship on the Konkani stage. The show was an instant success. In September 2007 Manfa Music Margao released this talented character comedian’s video album of songs ‘Ben’s Top Hits’. Two songs in this album were picturised in London. ‘Londoncho Mog’ together with English actor Gabriela for instance was picturised below the famed Tower Bridge in London, this is perhaps the first Konkani song to be picturised at this picturesque location.

After almost a two and a half year stint in the United Kingdom Ben Evangelisto has returned back to his roots for a short holiday and his fans will soon see him back on stage with a bang with his new production entitled ‘PEZ”. This tiatr is slated for release on 21st June 2008 at 3.30 P.M. at Hanuman theatre, Mapusa. Ponda tiatr lovers get an opportunity in their town on 22nd June at 3.30 p.m. On 25th June at 3.30 P.M. at the Vidya Niketan, Margao, and the show comes to Panjim on 1st July 2008 at 3.30 p.m.

Speaking to this writer, the playwright was reluctant to spell out the storyline of his new tiatr. However, he did hint that the story is inspired by and based on some real facts that had a larger ramification on the social and moral fabric of Goa quite sometime back. He also disclosed that the show will have some appealing stage sets and visuals. As a director with progressive ideas who had the courage of experimenting with the intellectual subject of surrogate mother-ship on the konkani stage, one can surely expect yet another intelligent plot in his new venture ‘PEZ’.

‘PEZ’ is having a vast cast comprising of some top Konkani stage artistes. Mumbai based Antonette Mendes, Syvester Vaz, (Kuwait), singer Akki (London) Comedian Luis Bachchan, Aniceto, Dolla Mascarenhas, Ron, Fr. Neville Gracias, and Music director Theo Alvares of Chris Perry fame along with the other artistes are going to come together to make PEZ a tasty traditional presentation in every sense of the word. Do book your tickets in advance to avoid last minute disappointment and to discourage sale of tickets by unscrupulous black marketers.

Ben Evangelisto with "PEZ" in 2008

Aboout the Director:

Ben Evangelisto or Comedian BEN (from Benaulim) who is into his own business in Goa, initially started off by playing tragedy roles in one act plays and once mentioned about being able to play any type of role.

Ben remembers his initial foray into commercial acting in Menino Mario's drama (in 1987 after completion of his studies) and considers his role in Rosario Rodrigues's drama 'HO UZO KEDNA PALOVTOLO', wherein, he played a character role (as 'Karamati') and made people laugh by speaking in the Bardezi dialect of Konkanni, as his best so far.

Ben's productions "KIDD" (in 1991) and "CHONDRIM" (in 1993) were quite successful. His drama "MISS AGUADA" in 1996 was not very well accepted.

Ben has released two audio tapes, the first one being 'APRIL FOOL'and the other entitled "BONDDO".

Goans in Kuwait electrified by Police: An F.I.R

-by gasper crasto

Comedian Agostino’s tiatr ‘Police’ staged on Friday (13 June 2008) at Kuwait’s Al Masra AC Auditorium, Hawally impressed everyone as the auditorium echoed with applause at every scene. None of the dramas in Kuwait for the last couple of years were attended by so large an audience. The hall was packed to the gate.

A record breaking blockbuster, ‘Police’ demonstrates that all policeman are not so corrupt as portrayed by the society. Writer-director comedian Agostinho himself shines in the role of a police havaldar – with one of the best dialogues heard in recent times. Agustine has proved that his acting skills and rapid tongued dialogue delivery is not less to any top actor in the art of Konkani drama.

Apart from rib-tickling comedy and an appealing story, it was a delight for the audience to watch songs by local heroes Comedian Phillip, Laurent Pereira, and a super trio by Cajetan-de-Sanvordem, Michael D’Silva and Mario de Majorda on the state of increasing escalation in Kuwait that received numerous encores. Comedian Phillip should be appreciated for trying to give Konkani solos a new dimension. His song was a new styled la-Shaggy Konkani rap.

The costumes used by the “Police” artistes were fabulous, virtually out of a film star’s wardrobe. The musical fill-ups by renowned musician Norman, especially the foot-step background and the weird climatic reverberation were incredible. The blowing trumpet of Maestro Agnelo gave the songs an added magnetism.

Comedian Agustine, unlike other writer-directors, in his speech honestly credited Benny Rebello as his song composer for “Police” while a super duet sung by Roma and Jessica titled ‘Ostori’ was attributed to Kuwait’s Marcus Vaz.

Although the drama was a percentage entertainer, as far as the script and story line, and people went home more than overwhelmed, some audience were overheard with many different opinions. Since Comedian Agustine and his troupe is still in town, the ace director might want to take a leaf from the Kuwait public who he termed during his last performance as the most intelligent audience among Goans worldwide.

===

Overheard Views:

“There is too much of screaming by the male actors even when the dialogue demands a simple conversation. It won’t surprise me if one of the stars burst their lungs on stage. If not, by the time the drama hits century, they are certain to end up with a ‘croak’ or their voice no more than a whisper…”

===

“There are too many ‘repeated’ obscene words used by the comedians. We wonder if the comedians try to extract extra laughter going to such an extreme terminology to impress audience in Kuwait or elsewhere abroad. Our Kuwait stars are sure to be ‘mass’ively criticized’ and crucified if they dared cross this limit. Is this gobbledygook accepted in Goa?”

===

Jessica beautifies the drama by her elegant presence, style, acting and dialogue delivery. Both the girls have done well but Jessica’s performance has that ‘stardom’...

===

“Osvy Viegas is a good singer on stage and in the background. And he carries himself well on stage too in the role of Superintendent of Police. But when he speaks the dialogues, his hands move like propeller blades... It would be better if he speaks with ‘silent and calm’ movement of hands..”

===

Comedian Selvy’s songs, reflexive movements and reactions are fantastic and unique.

===

“The sound system, by Kuwait’s standard, where there are people to cater even to Aerosmith or the ‘Symphonic Orchestra’, was the let down of the evening... Was that the ‘cheap and best’ sound available?

===

Laurent’s stage presence in his song was magnificent. The Kuwait trio was, by far, much superior to the visitors -- fluent voice combination and cheerful appearance. If “Police” had stars of such charisma and charm, or a few more absorbing, mesmerizing songs rather than the ‘regular and ordinary’ ones, the drama with all its anti-climax intensity, high drama momentum and witty dialogues could go on to become one of the classic unbeatable hits of Konkani stage.

===

“There were too many plaques awarded to Comedian Agustino during the felicitation. These could have been substituted with a gold pendant or something. I am sure Agustine will dump those plaques in Kuwait to avoid excess baggage as the troupe goes on to other parts of the Gulf.“

===

Agustine’s individual dialogues in the drama are more to the public than to the script’s characters. He speaks more like a politician giving a speech from a campaign podium, not what is required or directly related to the story...anyway, the dialogues take people for a ride and drop them back to accept the director’s point of emphasis.”

===

We have noted, that most of the drama organizers in Kuwait, organize a ‘Housie game’ during the interval. Ofcourse to generate some cash for expenses. And the prize is a cash prize. Always. In most of the cases we’ve attended, the prize has always been donated to the organizers by the winner if it happens to be a ‘cash’ prize. Now the question is, do the organizers expect everyone to donate the cash back to them? Why can’t they keep some ‘electronic’ items or something of that amount as the prize..?

===

Public opinion, though often formed upon a wrong basis, yet generally has a strong sense of justice. But irrespective of the views, Comedian Agustine and his troupe is sure to remain remembered in Kuwait for a super performance. He will definitely catch on recognition, if not from the government, then atleast from the Police, public or other organizations for the fantastic dialogues in the drama in support of the police department. Apart from winning hearts and fans, the director hailing from Navelim-Goa is sure to walk away with many accolades and awards with ‘Police’

Goan identity erodes with onslaught of migrants

CJ: Armstrong Vaz

One day, Goans will be strangers in their own land. The Goan identity will fade away and they will be left repenting, for having flirted with danger and damaged their birthplace. It's time Goans wake up and initiate saving their identity. .

GOA IS tiny, with a finite carrying capacity and is already saturated. The Goan population is extremely small compared to other communities in India. We (Goans) cannot withstand the current high-inflow of migrants. It will lead to severe civic, social and economic disturbance, will obliterate the Goan- identity, turn Goa into an unpleasant hovel like other urban Indian areas," writes Rajan Parrikar, an America returned Goan on Goanet, which is a Goan mailing group on why Goa does not need more migrants.

Yes, Goa and Goans are angry and are facing the ire of the agitating groups, trying to protect Goa from mega projects and Special economic zones (SEZ). What is at stake and why are Goans fighting to protect the land and Goan identity?

Goa has its charm, which has been attracting many to the land over the last several years. One gets enchanted with the picturesque landscape of Goa, which possesses rich and varied charms at different altitudes. But large concrete structures are threatening the beauty and ecology of the place.

Goa at present is getting a cosmopolitan look. Dangers are expressed that Goan identity will soon fade away.

"Utt Goenkara! Utt Goenkara! (Goans, awake from your slumber) It is for long that you have taken things in your stride. Time has come to rise from your slumber. Time has changed tracks on a fast lane for you for long. Long for you, to take things around you for granted. The sudden gush of winds of change will at least make your wiser in thought.

"The issues affecting Goa and Goans are a grim reminder to each one of us to rise above our narrow mentalities and unite, instead of pulling each of our fellow Goans down over trivial things. Trivial things, which can be sorted out and where fences can be mended," a speaker cautions and exhorts Goans at a mammoth meeting in south Goa called to oppose mega housing projects, to jell together.

The peace and tranquility of Goa has many a countrymen move to this land. For years we have played good hosts, had guests from all over the world. We do not know what our next door neighbour who has taken a house, flat or a small room for rent would turn out to be.

The next door neighbour may vary from being a pedophile, murderer, terrorist, rapist, swindler, property grabber, drug peddler, pimp, prostitute. We do not check the antecedents of the persons. We want to do business. Business of quick money in giving the premises on rent. Lest we may lose business to another competitor. The lust to grab a few crisp notes makes us ignore the face of threat we invite upon ourselves.

The police on their part are happy with their daily routine, collections of hafta from the various persons in business. The compilation of strangers’ data in every nook and corner of his beat has taken a back seat.

Utt Goenkara is an non-militant way. Violence does not serve our cause. So next time around when you sell the land, take a cautious route. Route of inquiring and prodding a few minutes or for hours to find the reality. Your conscious will be clear that you had made an effort and that you were unsuccessful is a different thing.

So do not sell your soul, your land, your pride, your ego and play with your life and the life of other fellow beings.

The migrants are blamed for the ills but take deep breathe. Where does the mason, the carpenter, the barber the tile fitter, the labourer in your market or the beach sports operator come from. The Biharis, the UPites, have made inroads into the trades.

Gone are mason from Pernem who built outhouses during our childhood days. Some of them are still living in our villages in Salcete far from their land in Pernem and greet us, but they had for long forsaken their professions. The barber who used to cut our hair till last five years back has changed his shop from a barber’s shop to another goods selling shop. His children like others low menial jobs have changes tracks to another profession or gone for white collar jobs and even migrated to America.

In my village Cuncolim, the best of the mechanics and the best carpenters from Demani Cuncolim are decreasing with every passing year.

So painting all migrants as bad will not serve our cause. The migrants come for their livelihood and they for one would not like their livelihood to be destroyed in one stroke.

The drug pushers and the drug lords of the coastal belt are the one who are more of a threat. A threat, in the long run when they will control all around and push things for them. Already there is buzz of the Kashimiris and the Russians combining to control the drug trade in north Goa beaches.

The buzz of the Russian mafia controlling and pushing drugs according too their own will and having bought a few houses in the north Goa, the Russians are looming power on the horizon for the state and the people of north coastal areas to have a effective check. Fears are expressed that three to five years from now, the Russian mafia would be a strong one in North Goan beach belt.

Russian mafia dons pushing files at the highest level of government through their belly of beauties and flesh trade is slowly creeping in.

Finally, it will be the insiders who sell the soul for Goa for a few extra pennies who are the greatest threat to Goa and Goans.

Politicians too will face the music on their own turf when they will be out staged with a Bihari and a UPite giving a dent to his hopes some years down the line.

Will Goa survive its identity in the

One day, Goans will be strangers in their our own land. The Goan identity will soon fade away and they will be left repenting, for having flirted with danger and damaged their own land. Hopefully, this is only a passing thought and nothing of this sort will happen to our Goa. Till then Utt Goenkara, Utt Goenkara time can come to rise and march on till it’s too late to save Goa and Goan identity.

GOA CHURCH SELLING GOA.

GOA CHURCH SELLING GOA.

Goa Church is one of the biggest landlords of Goa. Its landholding is spread all over Goa. Every village is having a Church and every Church is having its land and properties. We call the Church property as land of Confraria. This land was centuries back gifted to the Curch by some of the Goan Catholic landlords for the maintenance of Church and its expenses.

After the exit of Portuguese from Goa, much of the Confraria land was sold cheaply by the village Church Pe. Vigars not only to the local Catholics but also to the non-Goans, to the enemies of Goa, to the enemies of the Church and to the enemies of the Christianity as well. In this way Goa Church has brought enemies of Goa and Christianity at our doorsteps. In this way Goa Church also became responsible for selling our land to our enemies and non-Goans.

According to the latest information, Goa Church is on its land selling spree in Caranzalem, Panjim Betim, Bambolim and other places to the builders who are exploiting the local tenants very much against the Christian principles which goes against the teachings of Christs in whose name Church is functioning. It is not Goan "Rostad Bhattkars" alone who are responsible for the sale of Goan land to the non-Goans but according to the latest information Goa Church is also very much responsible in selling Goan land to outsiders and thereby attracting non Goan "Pidda" to Goa. This "Pidda" one day will not only destroy Christianity from Goa but also genuine Goans from Goa as well. The land that Goa Curch is selling to non Goans and builders were the gits of some landlords for the favours they received from Goa. It was not meant for sale to anyone. By selling this land Goa Church and Goan Confrariars will surely become rich but by not selling this land Goa Church and Confrariars would not become poor either.

The intention of those who centuries back gifted their land to the Church was not to sell to the third party but against this principle Church is selling Goan land to outsiders and thereby deGoanising Goa. In the recent campaign against the influx of immigrants and selling of Goan land to the builders and non-Goans, as the representative of Goa Church Fr. Maverick is campaigning very hard to stop the sale of Goan land to the outsiders. Thru this method the Church of Goa contradicts its own principle of justice. There is a saying in Konkani "APUN POILO ZAUNCHO NITT ANI DUSREAK MARCHEM MITT".

Lot of Goans are giving their land and old houses to the Church as gifts. Henceforth, I strongly feel that none of the Goans should gift their land and houses to the Church because Church is become corrupt. For the acquisition of wealth Goa Church will do anything with the blessings of the corrupt priests. Some of the corupt people in Goa are the priests. They want luxuries only. Take for exmple, the priests in many Churches never declare the weekly collections they receive in the Church during the masses. Those who declare they dont give details of how and where they spend it. In the absence of proper trasparency, people feel the exhaustive Sundays collection goes into the pockets of priests for the purchase of luxurious vehicles, for the maintenance of the concubines of many of the priests and for the extravaganza in wine and dine.

In some countries in the Gulf this type of collecion is never disclosed to the congregation thereby making the faithfuls to believe that it is misused by the respective Bishops, Priests and even Deacons and Sankistaum and Church Drivers to fatten their Bank Account back at home in their respective countries. For this reason, during Sunday and other Festival Masses, faithfuls should not contribute anything because Church authorities misuse the contributions of the faithfuls especilly of poor people. In one counry in the Gulf, as per information, major portion of this collection goes into the pockets of Deacon and Sankistaum, in another country the local Bishop does not want to take into account the coins which he gifts to the Sankistaum Deacon and driver. For this reason, those who count this collecion after every Mass are become rich thru this illicit method while those who put their contribution are become a source of mockery.

RE: Palestinians and Goans.

Mogal Veronica,

A very good article on the plight of Goa.

Also read your earlier article on the Grand Meet at Calangute and glad to know that you participated in this event. I am sure your fiery speech enlightened the minds of all those who attended the meet. It is note worthy that even while on vacation you have sacrificed your time once again for the cause of our mother land. You are a born activist and Goa needs people like you. Even from Kuwait you have awakened the minds of Goans around the world highlighting these issues. Your knowledge on Goa, culture, tradition and heritage is indeed very rich and your memory evergreen.

Palestinians and Goans.

PALESTINIANS AND GOANS.

This year The State of Israel celebrates its 60th birthday. While the Israelis celebrate with pomp their 60th birthday the local Palestinian Arabs, Muslims and Christians moan the 60th anniversary of the death of their homeland. 60 years back, Israel was established in the land called Arab Palestine from where the Arab Palestinians were forcibly and thru terror and cruelty uprooted from their lands, homes and localities by the Jews who came from far and wide. Over a century back at Basel in Switzerland under the direction of the former British Prime Minister James Balfour initiated the idea of establishing the homeland for the worldwide scattered Jews. This homeland was to be done in the Promised Land called Palestine. They even cited the Biblical quote which says that the Jews are the chosen people. Chosen people by whom? By God? Can the JUST God do injustice to some and justice to others thru discrimination? God means justice and if He acts unjust towards some by giving preferential treatment to the selected few whom we call Jews then God is Unjust which cannot be. The Just God cannot and will never practice apartheid. God is JUST only and will remain so but to give twisted outlook to suit their needs, I feel Jews have played some negative role in drafting Bible in favour of them. Jews are the most culprit people who killed Jesus Christ and by the way who is Jesus Christ? He is the son of same God. I feel something is wrong here. In the name of Biblical quotation Jews are making us believe their own theory suitable for their own requirement on the basis of which they established a homeland for them 60 years back. This homeland for Jews came thru blood. The Jews of that era did all the cruelties towards poor and innocent Palestinian Arabs who were Christians and Muslims.

The State of Israel came thru a very clever and cunning move by the top Jewish leaders many of them were the terrorists and criminals of first grade. A century back following the Basel Meeting, thru a strong Jewish lobby of millionaires, ordinary Jews with ordinary background from Europe, Africa, America and other parts of the world where they remained scattered for centuries as cursed people, were sent to Palestine. When they reached Palestine, these Jews started purchasing Palestinian lands from the local Palestinian Arabs – both Muslims and Christians. The Palestinian Christian Churches also started selling their lands – like Confraria lands in Goa - to the Jewish immigrants. Gradually 60 years back the major portion of Palestinian lands thru these purchases went into the hands of Jews in Palestine which was under the authority of British. There is a saying “hit the iron when it is hot” and this is exactly what the immigrant Jews in Arab Palestine did with the clandestine nod of the British rulers.

With the help of guns, knives, swords and daggers, the Jews settled in Palestine revolted against the local Arabs and also against the British authority by killing innocent Palestinian Arabs. Mothers were raped and killed in front of the fathers, wives in front of husbands, children in front of parents. The stomachs of the pregnant women were cut and small babies were thrown on to the streets. Women’s breast were cut and played like tennis football. In this way all sorts of cruelties were perpetrated to frighten the Palestinian Arabs who had no choice but to surrender and run for safety. While they ran for safer places the homes of Palestinian locals were forcibly occupied by the Jewish settlers. And now in 60 years they are become not only the landlords of Palestine but also the owners of Palestine. Palestinians by nature were mild and open hearted people. Both Christians and Muslim communities in Palestine lived peacefully without any communal discord. They were cheated by the immigrant Jews and they were cheated by their own mistakes of innocence and selling of their own land and properties to outsiders. For this reason they are now suffering. I pity them.

What are we Goans doing in Goa? Like early Palestinians we are also selling rampantly our land and properties to non Goans who are becoming not only the landlords of Goa but they are becoming owners of Goa. Every successive Government of Goa since 1961 sided with non-Goans by allowing them all the privileges against the interest of locals. What British Government in Palestine did for Jews against Palestinians in the same manner Goa Governments did and now doing more for the non-Goans against the interest of locals. Our local Bhattkars mainly the Christians are selling their land in huge quantities to the non-Goans who are exploiting every inch of Goa for their benefits. The way early scattered Jews came to Palestine with bags full of money so too non-Goans are coming to Goa with lot of money and thru this financial backing they are converting Goa as their fathers’ property. The way early Palestinian Arabs were dwarfed by the mighty financial, educational, technical, professional and terrorist power of the Jews so too the mighty powers of non-Goans to dwarf the Goans. We are only dreaming by saying we are the best in money power, educational power, professional power and technical power but in reality we are nothing for this reason we are dwarfed in Goa in every segment by the non Goans.

The early non Goans who were welcomed to Goa were Malyalis mostly third class, crooks and traitors. The first criminal to be sent to the gallows in Goa after 1961 was a Malyali Kumar. These early Malyalis are so well settled in Goa that they are now become “hondrad Ghorzanvui”. There is a saying in Konkani “Sankvar boson-boson khuim ghanvkar zalet”. In the same way the early non-Goan settlers in Goa are become “ghanvkars” in Goa. The other early third class non-Goans who captured Goa were the Maharastrians who were welcomed to Goa by Khalap’s MGP Government headed by Bandodkar and later on by his daughter Shashikala. Both MGP and Congress are responsible for selling Goa to non-Goans.

Our Church is also very much responsible for not guiding Goans in the right direction. The land of Confrarias was rampantly sold to our enemies and to non Goans in the earlier days by the Bebde Pe. Vigars for the gifts of “Soreachi Battli” or Sex thereby denying the locals of the privileges to own cheap land for them. We are in the Gulf for the last so many years. During the last 60 years of our employment in the Gulf we earned thousands of petro dollars and when it was converted into rupees it turned out to be not only millions but billions. Where are these billions gone? Mostly in dead investment and into conspicuous consumption. If our Church had to advise Gulfies to invest in land and properties today much of our Goan land would have been in our hands and Gulfies would have been much more richer. Priests came to Kuwait and other Gulf places doing what? Asking what? Only donations for their projects but as far as I am concerned none of the priests visiting this area advised us to invest our petro dollar wisely. In fact they wanted us to give them donations only and because of this during the invasion of Kuwait we suffered so much financially. And when we organized our movement in Goa in support of Kuwait, like disgraceful “beiman” none of the priests especially those who enjoyed our hospitality and donations supported us. The biggest culprit and “beiman” was Fr. Freddy J. D’Costa who not only not supported our movement but on the contrary mocked at us.

With the help of our deposits in the Banks in Goa our enemies invested and became crore potis while we remained there only making external show of our “kichddi” wealth. Now time will come even for Goan Mundkar where he will find difficulty even to purchase the plot where his ancestral house is standing. While I write this I feel trembling because like Palestine Goa is going out of our hands. The non – Goans will finally make us slaves because they are ruthless. They have no love for Goans, on the contrary they hate Goans but they love Goan land to convert it into a pleasure place. Can we do something at least at this late hour? The Jews who are settled in Arab land of Palestine are now calling themselves as Palestinians. In this same manner tomorrow the immigrants settled in Goa and whom we call as Ghanttis will themselves as Goans.
