GWS KUWAIT AND ITS FUND.

Last Friday Goan Welfare Society held its AGM and since then lot of debates has been going on. Thru this forum Mr. Pinheiro founder and ex executive committee member of GWS also voiced his views. All are concerned of the over fifty lakhs of Indian rupees still not accounted in the official kitty of GWS. This huge amount is still not credited to the official account of GWS. Which members are holding it is not known to all but according to information this huge amount collected thru blood and sweat of the common Goans are held in the personal account of all the three Curtorcars whose record of sincerity is not good. One of them in the past was involved in the misappropriation of Kuwait Goan Evacuees Fund in Goa soon after the liberation of Kuwait. He was the member of the clique that collected a huge fund from Kuwait Goan evacuees in Goa with the promise to repatriate them back to Kuwait but instead they utilised this fund for the election campaign of third class Eduardo Faleiro who was at that time contesting the Parliamentary election from South Goa constituency. Kuwait Goans are afraid that the fate of these lakhs may turn out the way like that of Kuwait Goan Evacuees Fund.

The money that was collected by GWS does not belong to the three Curtorcars, it belongs to every Kuwait Goan, he/she may or may not be the official member of GWS. When GWS was formed these three Curtorkars were nowhere in the bright light, one of them was trying to sabotage the formation of GWS in its infancy only. During the first meeting held at Kuwait Sheraton to establish GWS I openly in my speech declared my support by declaring that "no Kuwait Goan should suffer in Kuwait for any misery because of the lack of money with him/her". We all were of one view on this point. The initiator of this association Mr. Vincente D'Souza told me "unless you support this new organisation, I will not go ahead". Since onus fell on my head, I said yes with the above statement.

During that time a Goan man from St. Cruz, Francis Araujo who was hanged in Kuwait was fresh in my mind. To hire a good lawyer for defending him for comitting two murders - one a Turkish and the other an Egyptian - his poor brother was struggling. Good Lawyer was demanding KD 1000/- and Francis' brother Daniel did not have even 1000 Fils. His financial missery was too much. Then I directed him to Indian Embassy and Church too where he got Mercy Petition done but Indian Embassy rejected him. No money - No good Lawyer, Araujo lost his appeal and thus he was hanged. If we had strong organisation to help Araujo financially, we could have saved his life.

Besides Francis Araujo, we had innumerable Goans in domestic sector and eleshere too needed financial help, to assist them I wanted this organisation. But ultimately wishes of people like mine remained a dream because after the invasion and liberation of Kuwait, GWS affairs gone into the hands of wrong persons.

According to the latest news, there is also a move created by the three Curtorkars to donate the fund of GWS to charitable organisations in Goa. GWS was formed to look after the welfare of the suffering Kuwait Goans and this should take precedence over everything else. Just because fund is in your hands you cannot do what you like. Everyone concerned must take note of this. GWS came into being for specific cause and that cause should be followed.

Now since the huge fund is kept hidden from GWS official account, people are concerned. It is peoples fund collected for the cause of people and it should be spent after the needs of the people only. Who is enjoying the interest of this huge money during the last so many years? Is this money kept ‘Rovannink Panttle Pondak’ or kept in their personal account in the Bank by the three Curtorcars? This attitude of these Curtorcars creates wrong image of them. It is wrong on their part because they took money from GWS and kept with them. If tomorrow all of them die suddenly then who will be the owner of this huge fund of public? Did anybody apply his mind on this point? Whatever it is, the fund belonging to GWS must return officially to official account of GWS and not to anyone however top person he or they may be in GWS.

In order to do whatever they want of this fund, GWS trio is creating a situation into the minds of some current members to forget about this fund and GWS as well. For this reason there was very poor attendance for the last AGM. According to one source, even required Quorum was not there to hold the meeting. This is what the trio wants and then use the money for them. It is public money and every member of Goan community must fight for its survival before it is become another Bombay Kudd money scandal.. In this fight to save GWS fund, some ex members and ex office bearers of GWS are also involved. They deserve support from all for the right cause and for justice.

From the on going debates one can conclude that most of our Goan affairs and Goan associations are into the hands of people with questionable characters. Some are Chors, some are Bebdes and others are Bamttes and most of them are selfish. We have to get rid of them and also get rid our associations and clubs of these unGoan and antiGoan elements. Then only we will have peace among us in Kuwait. Kicking out Chors, Bebdes and Bamttes from our circle, from our Associations and from our Clubs should be our top priority.

Borem korteleanchea sodanch phattir ieata”

There are a few adages in Konkanni that will sum up my views on the subject:

“Borem korteleanchea sodanch phattir ieata” and then these will sum my view of the culprits “todde asat je borem khorche-nat ani dusream-khui borem khorunk dinvche-nat” ani “toddeam’cheani borem korteleank pollounk zaina, dolleant thanchea matti poddom”.

I have not know Gasper Almeida for long, neither have I met him, but we have kept in touch through the electronic media but I have heard a lot about his persona and none of it has been on wrong side of the line. I do envy his grit and enthusiasm to help others without expecting anything in return. We have kept in touch for the last two years and I have a high regard for his ethics and understanding, although he had not known me, he made me feel extremely comfortable and close to him, he rendered me a lot of help and guidance in learning to write in Romi Konkanni, he was the one who gave me the impetus to keep on writing with encouraging words and support. I do admire his humility in his mails and the love he has for Goa, Goans and especially for our Mother Tongue.

He is indeed a man of few words and his works speak for themselves. A dedicated man of the caliber of Gasper Almeida should be encouraged and felicitated and not discouraged and humiliated. It is indeed a part and parcel of social work, that one has to suffer ignominy for his dedication and generosity - May truth prevail.

RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL SON.

The Return Of The Prodigal Son

As I browsed through most of the Goan news papers, I noticed all of them had the same story on the front page, “the return of the prodigal son” to the Congress fold, with pictures of smiling faces all-around. I am not at all surprised at this show of high octane theatrics which will surely explode in their faces in due course of time.

Our Holy Book gives us a perfect example of repentance and forgiveness in one of it’s parables, the parable of the “prodigal son”, but here we most certainly have a prodigal son in an entirely different form, this prodigal son who had left the Congress fold for mere personal reasons and ego, back stabbing the Congress at the twelfth hour, with a show of arrogance and attitude, but then in a surprise move, supported the very Congress government that he had ridiculed and humiliated just before the election, and was rewarded with a Ministry for his post election support, forgetting all his transgressions, but even after the change of heart from the Congress, during the last three years he has been a constant thorn in the side of Digambar Kamat, threatening to over throw the His government, with the help of the elite G7, lead by none other that our flamboyant Mickky mouse, the dynamic duo of Mickky mouse and the Monster-rat was indeed too hot to handle for the “billie” (cat) from Margao, but now once Mickky has been taken out of the equation, the G7 has wobbled and what better way and time, to come back to the arms of the ever forgiving “mother” Sonia Gandhi.

Though the theme is the same, the behaviour of the prodigal son is in total contrast, in the Bible the prodigal son repents after spending his father’s fortune on life of debauchery, here the prodigal son in non-repentant even after all the scams, and still arrogant. The prodigal son in the Bible came back after spending his share of his father’s property, here the prodigal son has come back with wealth a plenty, with a lot of gold on his fingers, neck and may be in a lot of other places as well. The Bible portrays the prodigal son with shabby clothes, and equally shabby appearance but this prodigal son has come back, well dressed and with well oiled mustache and well groomed hair. In the Bible the prodigal son came back with his head down, full of shame but this prodigal son is back with his head held high, chest pushed out, tummy tucked in and his nose up in the air with no remorse at all. In the Bible the prodigal son’s return was celebrated by the father but the elder brother was disappointed, here the mother has forgiven and the elder brother (Digu) is celebrating, he seems more then relieved that his chair, is now secure, for sometime atleast.

The message here that the Congress has sent out, is that the Congress in Goa is nothing more than a mere brothel, join in have fun and leave anytime and if neither party is satisfied with the performance of each other, they can always leave creating the worst of scenes and then come together any number of times for another performance without any “preconditions”. How gracious Congress hearts and ideologies ? It’s politics at it’s ugliest best.

The question now on everyone’s mind is, how long will this “love-hate” relationship last ? When will the Don Monserrate get an itch for Digu’s chair, next ? Will he really anchor in fidelity and keep his vows intact ? Only time will tell, though I must say that the ambitions of crooks do not succumb to the treachery and guile of the same.
