The village Assagao in
Bardez is known for producing great Goan stalwarts who made mark of their talents
in different fields. Monsg. Dalgado is from this village, so too the initiator
of Konkani Tiatro, Lucazinho Ribeiro as well as the renowned Olympian
footballer the late Neville D’Souza of whose type India is yet to produce
another. He was the first Indian and first Asian to score a hat-trick in the
Olympics.

Joel D’Souza is yet another
prominent citizen of Assagao who shot into fame when he was engaged as a
journalist by prestigious Goan monthly “GOA TODAY” in early eighties. As a
Kuwait correspondent of Goa Today I first time came in contact with Joel thru
Goa Today. I always found him
cooperative and willing to help. A man
of humble nature his smile was his main asset.

Duri During the invasion time of Kuwait, it was thru his writing in Goa Today
that he calmed down the temper of many who were still wanting to know what has
happened to their dearest and nearest in the invaded Kuwait. First he met me personally, got all the
correct information and penned down the article to pacify the Goa based Goans
who were worried of their relatives in Kuwait.
His
writings every morning in Internet was of immense source of information for
global Goans to know what is happening in Goa.
Mario Menezes is seen speaking
He w He was a strong supporter of Konkani and worked hard to support Konkani
movement in Goa. He was always praising
me and Kuwait Goans to help promotion of Konkani movement. He even said that without Kuwait Goans’
support Konkani movement in Goa would not be successful. But now who think that
way? Our efforts and struggle for the
promotion of Konkani is forgotten. The
very Konknnivadis who received our financial assistance are treating us in Goa
as unknown people. For those who are
running the show of Konkani in Goa, they see the Goa based Konkani activists
only while others from outside are dead issue.
