As reported in
Herald dated 28.10.16, Congress remarked that the results of the just concluded
Municipal election is a rebuff to BJP and in the coming election in 2017
Congress will root out the saffron party.
According to my
observation, it is impossible for Congress Party independently to knock-down
BJP from the power. Congress will have to align with the likeminded
partners to fight the next election. If Congress feels the recent Civic
poll results is a Barometer to measure its strength and the weakness of
BJP then Congress is sadly mistaken. Congress will again face humiliation
in 2017 if it does not correct its past mistakes of fielding corrupt, goonda, womeniser, gambler and bribe receiver
candidates.
I am sure Congress will
fail again if it fields the defeated candidates and old guards. It should
be noted that people will again reject the earlier defeated candidates because
they are corrupt Congressmen who looted the public. Because they are
corrupt, people voted them out. In view of it, they along with old
guards should be denied the election tickets in 2017. Congress should learn from Vijay Sardesai in
Fatorda how he got his panel elected in
the last Civic Poll by fielding young and new faces.
If Congress really
wants to win the coming election then Congress must declare in its manifesto
the austerity and simplicity measures for its candidates once they are
elected. These measures are: No VIP culture for any elected member, no
taking of bribe, declaration of the source of assets of every election
contestant, no residing at Panjim Altinho Bungalow and outright rejection of
any person against whom a FIR is filed. Can Congress Party do this? If
yes, then well. If not, then Congress Party must forget even of
contesting the next election just as it did in the recent Civic poll.
