United Goans Football Tournament from Friday 24th Sept

Kuwait: The draw for the 35th edition of United Goans 11-aside football tournament was held on September 17th, 2010 at Bayan grounds, during the UFC 7-aside tournament.
The tournament will be played under the auspices of Kuwait Indian Football Federation (K.I.F.F) and officiated by KIFF referees.
UGC assistant secretary Mr. Joseph Gonsalves welcomed the crowd and conducted the proceedings of the draw. In all fourteen teams affiliated to KIFF will be participating in this prestigious annual knock out tournament. The teams are divided into two groups of seven each.
Group A consists of Indian strikers, Santos FC, Navelim YC, Skynet Raiders FC, Rawda Boys FC, YRC and UFC.
Group B consists of Goa maroons, Curtorcaras United, Kuwait goans, UGC, Rangers FC, DHL FC and CRC
The inaugural match of the tournament will be played on September 24 at 6:30 am between Indian Strikers and Santos FC while the second match will be between Navelim FC Vs Skynet Raiders will at 8:30 am.
In his brief address Joseph Gonsalves requested everyone's cooperation to make this year's edition a success. He also praised the current management committee of K.I.F.F for taking responsibilities providing their own referees.
The final will be played on 29th October 2010 in the evening, the venue will be announced later.
The first tournament initiated by UG was first held in 1979 at the famous Al-Sour grounds. It was a league cum knockout and about ten teams participated. The quality of football was so high that some of the national players newly come from Goa and representing their respective teams brought an extra flavour to the tournament.
British footballers represented the then mighty club Hubara from Ahmadi. Since then due to the excellent initiative taken by UG, the local English press has also played a very good role in promoting Indian football at Sour ground. The grounds have now been shifted to a different area.
