MESSAGE FROM FLORIANO LOBO.

Dear leaders of all political parties,

This is the moment that the people of this great country which has been brought to naught by 'jokers' that they have been electing since it's independence in 1947. Mahatma Gandhi had a great dream. That dream was rubbed into the ground after his murder by the RSS vipers by none other than PanditJawaharlal Nehru when he condoned the first ever Jeep's scam by his then defence minister and friend Krishna Menon. If Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had to bring Menon to book then, today this country would not have been crying hoarse for this LOKPAL BILL to rein-in corruption that the world over has not seen for a poor country like India with the SWISS BANKERS running laughing to their vault with the booty that you guys have deposited there or allowed to be deposited there.

Today, the words of Sir Winston Churchill spoken in the British Parliament prior to giving independence to India are ringing true in our ears that the reins of power of a potentially rich and strong country should not be handed-over in the hands of 'MEN OF STRAW'.

Today, we see thousands of Crores of Rupees of us, the tax-payer's money, being siphoned/eaten through the mega scams like 2G , CWC, PDS et al. Thisis compounded by a Prime Minister of honest integrity acting like a puppet in the hands of the maha- corrupters, even refusing to open his mouth where required to save the respect of this great nation. The people of this country has had enough of you jokers who have been elected through money and muscle power.

We the people DEMAND that you pass the LOKPAL BILL as designed by the Civil Society Or face the wrath of being totally and completely destroyed. We the people of this country need the break, NOW. And you, the fattened JOKERs are going to give it to us OR PERISH. Anguished at your lackadaisical and cheating behaviour,

MODDLOLEA KHURSAK RESPED NA??

The late Mr. J. P. D’Mello hailing from Porvorim, Bardez, Goa was a renowned Soccer Umpire in Bombay attached with Western Indian Football Association that was organising soccer activities at Cooperage soccer ground in Bombay. He was also linked with All India Football Federation by virtue of his being an expert in soccer laws. The general secretary of All India Football Federation Mr. Ziauddin once asked Mr. J.P., “please give me your brain which is full of excellent knowledge of soccer rules and in the bargain I will give you anything”. For this, Mr. JP replied laughingly saying “Ziauddin Saab, my brain is not exchangeable”. This was the power of this great Goan J.P. D’Mello. He even made a mark for himself at Asian Soccer level.

Once he confided in me saying “as a Goan when I brought honour for Goa in soccer field, what Goans have done for me?” Then in my writings I made lot of reference of his achievements and later on after his death I gave a strong push for the initiative to start a soccer tournament in Kuwait in his memory. Rightly Kuwait Indian Football Federation did this job wonderfully. Unfortunately in his birth place he remained a forgotten hero. It looks Prophets are not adored in their localities. It is many years now since his death that the JP Memorial tournament is organised annually by KIFF in Kuwait and it is become a very prestigious tournament for Indians in general and Goans in particular. This year’s edition has just been completed a fortnight back, G.O.A. Maroons winning the championship. JP in his grave must have been very happy to know Maroons has won this year’s edition because he once told me that after UG, his love and affection go to G.O.A. Maroons which was his favourite team.

JP at the end of his active career in Bombay came to Kuwait to work and got himself employed at KREMENCO, Ahmadi. While he was employed at Kremenco, he was associated with Asian Soccer Federation as well. Also, as a Goan he was associating with our soccer at Sour ground helping and guiding our soccer activities. UG introduced him to our soccer at Sour ground thru Antonio Lawrence Fernandes who was the first president of UG. Since then every Friday JP was seen early in the morning attending soccer activities at Sour ground. It was he who introduced his idea to me first to initiate KIFF to bring all teams and clubs under one apex body to have better control. I liked this idea and I marketed it. After Lawrence Rato, Lawry Pinto worked very hard along with others to get it materialised till Kuwait Indian Football Federation was formed.

Indian Football Referees Association, Kuwait was also JP’s brainchild. Being such a big personality he was always a humble man, a true Goan having all the best attributes of true pristine Goan. Even in our Goan activities beyond soccer he participated as a proud Goan. His natural humility added to his greatness. Thru JP Memorial soccer tournament, KIFF made his name immortal giving due recognition to his selfless and dedicated work for the promotion of soccer.

If it was not for our soccer at Sour ground, JP would remain unknown among us in Kuwait. In Kuwait JP became JP and became known among us only because he got a ready made opportunity to involve himself in our soccer activities and made known to us his talent. United Goans Football Center popularly known as UG initiated our competitive soccer activities at Sour ground in Kuwait and created a base for our soccer and a way to exhibit our talent in this field. For this reason UG deserved highest compliments. To initiate this competitive soccer at Sour ground first time in 1979, UG’s Tony Gonsalves from Divar Goa, Antonio Lawrence Fernandes from Siolim Goa, F.X. Joe D’Souza from Assagao Goa, Moses Menezes from Candolim Goa, Diogo Gomes from Bastora Goa and Custodio Fernades from Navelim Goa along with others have done a wonderful job and because they did this job successfully, we now till today are enjoying our soccer activities. If our soccer activities are running till now it is only because of the strong base originally put by the UG.

Among all the UG stalwarts who worked so hard to lay a solid foundation for the establishment of our competitive soccer tournaments in Kuwait for Indians, the late Custodio Fernandes and the late Diogo Gomes deserve more credit. While doing this job, they did not care for their own jobs, their families, their money and even their health. To achieve their goals so many times they received insults from their opponents unnecessarily but never surrendered. The memory of these two Goan giants who along with their collleagues were responsible to initiate our competitive soccer in Kuwait should be kept alive just as it was done for JP. In fact, more than J.P., Diogo Gomes and Custodio Fernandes deserve respect because they did what JP did not do for our soccer in Kuwait though I admit JP was a great soccer personality rightly deserving a memorial tournament in his memory. Now, somebody must come forward and initiate a memorial soccer tournament in memory of both these soccer crazy Goans, namely Diogo and Custodio. They made history and as such their memory should be kept alive for posterity. Their contribution in initiating our soccer activities in Kuwait cannot be ignored and cannot be forgotten.

I was expecting at least the Navelim Youth Center Kuwait would do something in memory of their villager Custodio Fernandes but no, Navelim Youth Center in Kuwait forgot the worth of their own brother. It is said in Konkani “Bhangarachem mol fokot Xettikuch gomta”.

If we can organise a memorial tournament in Kuwait in memory of the late mother of Churchill Alemao, I feel we also could have done the same for our own ex Kwaitkars namely Navelcar Custodio Fernandes and Bastorcar Diogo Gomes whose contribution in the establishment and promotion of our soccer in Kuwait is so immense and so memorable while that of Churchill’s mother is nothing in Kuwait though she was a great mother blessed with a womb to give birth to the well known football promoters Churchill Brothers. A memorial tournament is oganised in memmory of the contribution of that particular person who has played a prominent role in particular sporting field while he was alive.

Among Goans there are no greater ‘Chamcha’ and Cheap Goans as we have in Kuwait. For gaining cheap prominence from cheap and corrupt politicians many of our Kuwait Goans will do anything, of course shamelessly like Pimps. Some of them are even capable of doling their wives and daughters to our corrupt politicians who after corrupting Goa are trying to corrupt Kuwait. One of the reasons for this is because these Kuwait Goans in their life time never enjoyed prominence because they have no qualities to enjoy dignified prominence. What little prominence they enjoy by associating with corrupt Goan politicians is the cheap and undignified prominence and that too only because they are in Kuwait. Promoting corrupt Goan politicians in Kuwait thru soccer activities and ignoring the genuine Goans whose work in this field in Kuwait is immense is something beyond my imagination. Or do we believe in Konkani proverb which says “MODDLOLEA KHURSAK KHUIM RESPED NA” and for this reason the late Diogo Gomes and Custodio Fernandes are become forgotten heroes? It is a pity that among us in Kuwait who are actively involved in the promotion of our soccer there is not a single person who is intellectually high to think high, all are "Moddche Poixe" inspite of havng lakhs which are meant only for external display.

A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.

SUSHILA NAIK, OH THOU PONTIUS PILOT !

Reading through the Costa’s ground saga at Aquem my heart bleeds at the acrimony that’s displayed by our bureaucrats and authorities. The ruling dispensation of the Margao Municipal council has infact reduced the Aam Janata to mere fools and asses.

If a member of the Aam Janata files papers for the construction of a house, he is made to run from pillar to post for months and sometimes years, but the elite can get huge projects passed even on disputed land in a jiffy and why is that so ? The TPC owes an answer to the Aam Janata !

The objections over the project at Costa’s ground, have been pouring in for a long time and any regular reader of the Goan news papers could vouch that. A play ground, a place where the local lads passed their time, socializing and exercising for ages, even our CM acknowledged that he was fortunate enough to play on this particular ground in his childhood day. How can this ground that was a community centre for such a long time be just taken away from the young local population and be approved for a mega project without the approval of the locals ? How can our CM just look the other way when benefits of the locals are taken away and given to builders ? How can this be, the Government of the Aam Janata ?

The CO of MMC approves the project in just three days, it must be some kind of a record for efficiency of our bureaucratic regime and that to without the knowledge of the Chairperson and the Man behind the MMC, the CM himself. Are we Goans idiots to believe that the CO is a power grid by himself ? The MMC Chairperson has certainly done the Pontius Pilot acts but Madgaokar are not fools and are aware of the treachery. Support for the Aquem locals is pouring in from all sides. I hope the public out cry will overwhelm the petty greed of our bureaucratic babus and common sense prevails. Long live Peoples power !

I request all Goans and the NOG’s to support the Aquem residents in their fight against the corrupt nepotistic policies of the present bureaucratic regime of the Margao Municipal Council towards the builders and the elite.

MID - DAY MEAL OR POISON?

By: Nisser Dias.

Mid-day meal or poison? Is the Education, Health departments and FDA not equally responsible?

Last week as many as 52 students from Murgao High School had to hospitalized after consuming free mid-day meal dished out to them, which was prepared by Saraswati self help group (SHG). As we all know that this is not the first instance where this particular SHG has been responsible for the serving poisoned meal to the students as it had happened just two years back, but still this SHG managed to bag the contract even after being blacklisted. This is the irony of this government, for whom the welfare and well being of the future generation is the last priority.
Of course at the moment all the daggers and swords are pointed towards the Saraswati SHG and especially at its president Urmilla Salgaocar – who is on the run and is evading arrest. Undoubtedly she has to answer lots of questions which is much better then facing parents, however equally responsible are people holding top position in the Education department, Health department and the Directorate of Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

How did the Education department overlook Urmilla Salgaocar’s Saraswati SHG’s bad track record while granting her the tender. Was it at the instance of the politician? Did the health department and FDA carry out inspection to oversee hygiene aspects of the kitchens where the food would be prepared before giving their nod to the successful bidders? Or are we talking about kickbacks and underhand deals.

Be that as it may, what is the purpose of the mid-day scheme. And are the departments involved in the scheme trying to make it successful? When the Government of India had formulated the scheme it had a five point agenda:- firstly protection of children from classroom hunger, second was to increase school enrolment and attendance. third improving socialization among children of all castes, fourth addressing issue of malnutrition among children and lastly social empowerment of women by creating employment.

For us to achieve success in the mid-day meal programme our Education department, Health department, FDA and Women and Child Development board has to work in tandem and dedicatedly. For instance, last week’s incident of students consuming poisoned food could be avoided if the Education department personnel had only adhered to the Government of India’s observations.

On 10th May 2011 Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of School Education and Learning, Government of India had deliberated on the mid-day meal. The observations of the Monitoring Institution were intimated to Education Secretary P. V. Rao, Director of Education Dr. Celsa Pinto and Dy. Director of Education Anil V Powar. The observation of the Monitoring Institution were :-

In Urban areas:- “It was observed that mid-day meal (MDM) supplied by NGOs/SHGs is not given in time, roti and green vegetables are never given, mainly dal, sambar and kheer are dished out. That the food provided is generally not liked by students especially upper primary school students. That the teachers are not aware of the quality and quantity of MDM. That in 80% schools there is difference between attendance sheet and MDM Sheet. That utensils were not available in most of the schools”.

In Rural areas:- “In 95 percent, supplies for MDM are kept at the SHG president’s home from where it is brought daily by the cook to prepare the mid day meal. That in 10 percent schools, the president do not provide required quantity of food grain for cooking mid day meal and the presidents of SHG do not take interest in MDM. That in 40 percent schools teachers do not taste the food either due to the caste of the cook or because of the poor quality of mid day meal. That non iodized salt is used in 5 percent of schools, 30 percent SHGs use wood for cooking mid day meal. 95 percent of the schools do not provide soap and towels to students. That 60 percent cooks are not aware of standards of MDM. Lastly 20 percent of the kitchens are not properly cleaned and maintained.

I have my doubts whether Dr. Celsa Pinto and her deputy Anil Powar even read the document, instead they must have shelved it. Dr. Pinto is in her own world and Powar is busy scheming to occupy the director’s chair. First and foremost the Education department, Health department has to tell us about the criteria adopted to issue tenders to SHGs to prepare mid-day meal. Did the officials check the credentials and experience of the SHGs, have they checked their kitchens and store rooms.

It is high time that the education department sets a system to monitor the mid-day meal. It should set up school committees or empower PTAs of each school to carry out regular inspection of the kitchens along with official of Education, Health departments and FDA. At the same time PTAs should be authorized to carry out surprise checks. School committees or PTAs should monitor on daily basis nutritional value or wholesomeness of the midday meal served to the student.

WHEN THESE KUWAITIS WILL CIVILISE THEMSELVES?

The most ugly crime in Kuwait repeatedly committed by some cruel Kuwaitis is the crime of ‘Maltreatment’ of their Maids. Maid beatings, Maid burnings and Maid killings are the constant happenings in Kuwait I have been hearing of and reading in the local media since over 3 decades now of my employment in Kuwait. I fail to understand why and how these Kuwaitis can turn so beastly and sadistic towards their Maids who are many times a part and parcel of their households serving their employers to the best of their abilities and faithfulness. Before coming to Kuwait for employment while in Goa I was constantly hearing stories of maltreatment of Maids in Kuwait only by the Kuwaiti employers. After my coming to Kuwait I heard from primary sources how so many of our Goan Maids even our aged mothers, sisters, wives, unties and other relatives working in Kuwait as Maids have been maltreated physically and sexually.

I feel hurt to know that so many of our Goan Maids had to face these brutalities from some brute Kuwaitis who did not even have respect for their own religious teachings which forbid such cruel treatment to the maids. Goan Maids were the early Maids recruited in Kuwait and they have given best of their services to Kuwaitis and best of motherly love and affection to the Kuwaiti children who were brought up under these faithful Goan Maids. I fail to understand how these people praying five times a day and committing such brutal and humiliating crimes on their poor Maids. Maids are like Goats in front of their Kuwaiti bosses many of whom many times like butchers commit butchery on the poor Maids and these helpless Maids having no other choice like Goats meekly suffer these butcheries. I don’t think there is any Goan Maid now retired in Goa who has not faced brutality of her Kuwaiti employers either of males or of females or of their children in any inhuman manner such as physical assault, sexual assault or simple harassment on the job.

The Kuwaitis who maltreat their poor Maids are cowards. They can act as Lions in front of the Goats only. During their critical time which was sent to them by God, these Kuwaitis became cockroaches and at many times they were saved by their Maids only. When I see Israeli Jews maltreating the poor and helpless Palestinian Arabs I curse these Jews but when I hear of Kuwaitis maltreating their poor Maids I have no words to express my anger. In this regard I can say only one thing, that is, Kuwaitis maltreating poor helpless Maids is worst than Israeli Jews maltreating the poor helpless Arabs. I don’t understand what these Kuwaitis think of themselves when they employ Maids in their houses!! Are these Maids slaves to treat them in such a manner so as to abuse them physically? Is slavery still existing in this world and in Kuwait as well? Surely it looks like though not officially but unofficially. The Human Rights activists not only in Kuwait but all around the globe must campaign hard against the atrocities committed on poor Maids in Kuwait by the uncivilised brute Kuwaitis.

Recently on 19th of this month a news item appeared in the local Arab Times showing how a Philippina Maid was physically brutalised by her Kuwaiti lady employer. First the Kuwaiti lady employer started assaulting her Philippina Maid physically without any mercy and later on purely in a sadistic manner she “made her Maid to pour two cups of liquid bleach and a detergent powder into a small basin and allegedly asked her to use her bare hands to dip into the solution and clean the walls of the house”. Her Kuwaiti lady employer did not allow her to use gloves or sponge. Because of this both her hands were blistered and still her Kuwaiti lady employer asked her to go on and on and clean everything.

Below is the picture of the blistered hands of the physically abused Phillipina Maid.

During the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait we heard lot of stories of how Kuwaitis, males and females including their children were brutally maltreated by the Iraqi invaders and we openly condemned this and I myself in particular am on record to organise a movement in Goa during the invasion of Kuwait to condemn the brutalities of Iraqis on Kuwaitis in invaded Kuwait. The Kuwaitis felt very bad when they were maltreated by the Iraqi invader rascals but when these Kuwaitis maltreat their maids and other domestics, how it looks? I condemn those Kuwaitis who maltreat their Maids. It is unethical, unreligious and uncivilised to maltreat Maids. No Kuwaiti employer has authority to physically assault his or her Maid. In case there is any breach of discipline committed by any Maid, there is proper official and legal authority to deal with it but surely not the Kuwaiti employers. Kuwaiti employers got no right to take law into their own hands, it is the right of the State and not of Kuwaiti employers. Those Kuwaiti employers who maltreat their maids are responsible to disgrace the fair image of Kuwait.

During the invasion of Kuwait under my leadership we in Goa organised a big movement in support of Kuwait and to condemn Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. When we were organising this movement in support of Kuwait and Kuwaitis many persons including some Muslim Arabs were questioning me personally why we are supporting Kuwait when Kuwaitis were on record to maltreat our Goan Maids? My answer to them was this: Maltreatment of Maids issue and invasion of Kuwait are two different issues, they cannot be linked together though I condemn forcefully the maltreatment of Maids by Kuwaitis. And as a matter of fact only few Kuwaitis are responsible for maltreating their Maids and these Kuwaitis deserve highest condemnation. As a friend of Kuwait I am involved in a movement thru Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center to depict the bright image of Kuwait but because of maltreatment of Maids by some Kuwaitis my efforts are hampered.

If I am permitted to speak the truth still further on the treatment we get in Kuwait I must admit that it is not Maids only who are maltreated in Kuwait but even other expatriates mainly coming from Indian sub-continent are treated badly in Kuwait. This type of treatment based on discrimination on the basis of nationality is absolutely bad for human dignity. Such discriminations make a person lose his self confidence, make him lose his human dignity and makes him consider himself as sub-human being. This society as a whole is not an egalitarian society where all are not treated on equal footing. You go to the Church during the Arabic Service, the Lebanese, Palestinians and other Arabs look at you with hatred and anger as if Christianity belongs to the neighbours of Jesus Christ only; you go to any Government Offices you are treated as second class person; you go to anywhere where locals are also involved, you are made to admit that you are nothing. Even on employment front you are paid and treated on the basis of your nationality. For this reason I say unofficial apartheid is practiced in Kuwait by the privileged people.

A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.

DO NOT CURTAIL THE POWER OF THE LOKPAL BILL.

The three most supreme officers in the Indian democracy are the President, Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of India and as such all three offices must be beyond reproach. But are they any different than any other ordinary Indians in terms of rights and privileges through the Constitution of India ? There is no doubt that these three offices are symbolic in nature, The President is the Chief of the armed forces, Chief Justice rules the Judiciary and the Prime Minister governs the Aam Janata. Hot seats indeed !

The Prime Minister is elected by the elected majority council in Parliament, but the other two are nominated from outside the elected council by the majority in the elected council and as such authenticity is diluted because nepotism rather than performance, merit or credibility, becomes the criteria. We have seen the numerous instances when Governors have made asses of themselves in opposition ruled states in this country, irrespective of the ruling party in power.

Today the Lokpal bill is a center of immense debate; there are two major problems to iron out 1) The parameters of the ambit. Politicians and bureaucrats are trying to curtail the effectiveness by limiting it’s ambit, thus rendering it partially ineffective. The main bone of contention is the ambit of the bill, activist want every individual and bureaucratic body to come under it’s ambit, that includes the supreme court, the highest offices and politicians, so that democracy is reflected in totality but the elite want some of the luminaries and bodies in the democratic system out of the ambit of this bill and there lies the disgust of the activists.

Problem 2) We do need a watchdog body to implement the Lokpal Bill, which body is it going to be ? For the Bill to become potent the parameters should not be compromised and no individuals should be excluded, true and fair enough but the watchdog for implementation is a bit ricky, if the watchdog body itself is under the Lokpal, how can total transparency be guaranteed ? Who or which body will watch the watchdog ? This needs to be debated but consensus will not be easy to come to.

To be honest, with mega scams unfolding a galore, there is enough public sympathy towards the activists and an overwhelming outcry against this corrupt government, to bring it down. We have witnessed the support Anna generated and I hope for sake of the ruling dispensation that it does not take the Gandhian Anna for granted or weigh him with yoga guru baba Ramdev in the same scale of integrity and sincerity, if they do, it will be a folly on their part.

It is true that the highest offices and officers should be respected but respect and accountability are two different issues and each has it’s limitations and flaws, so since India is a democracy by choice, there should be no distinction made with status or the power of the office, or it will cease to remain a democracy, and infact becomes an autocracy.

I do not see how the respect of the highest offices is at stake if they are brought under the ambit of the Lokpal bill. If the highest offices are as clean and as transparent as they claim to be or should be, what is the problem ? In fact, if these offices are brought under the ambit of the Lokpal bill, it will increase the respect and the sanctity of these offices and officers, as accountability and transparency will be acknowledged at the highest level in the country. That is what the people are looking forward to, so that we Indians can walk with our heads held high with dignity and respect.

ARTIFICIAL INDIAN MONARCHS THRU ARTIFICIAL DYNASTIC RULE.

During the British rule in India, Indians were made to adore and accept British Monarchical rule. After the independence Congress Party of India inherited the role of British Monarchy where Indians were either voluntarily or involuntarily made to adore and accept Congressmen as Indian Monarchs. Nehru became the first De Facto Monarch of India and his rule and word became sanctified. No Indian would easily question him firmly even if he was wrong. Whatever he did was accepted as constitutionally and devinely correct. After India’s debacle against China in 1962 some patriotic voices demanded his resignation but instead cunningly he made his Malyali crook defence minister Krishna Menon scapegoat for this defeat against China and made Menon to resign. But at that point of time Nehru asked the nation this question: “Who after me? If I resign, who will take over from me?” As if Nehru’s rule is inevitable.

In order to maintain his dynasty, Nehru started grooming his daughter Indira Gandhi the widow of Feroze Gandhi from Parsi community. She was a very intolerant and undemocratic woman. Nehru did not like these nasty attributes of her yet she was his own biological child whom he wanted to be his heir to the throne. However, before he could groom her fully he died and immediately following his death a Ghandian, Gurzarilal Nanda was appointed as interim period premier of India till Lal Bahadur Shastri was elevated to the premiership. When Shastri died in Russia at Tashkent, senior Congressmen brought in Indira Gandhi against Morarjee Desai as premier. Her election was favoured by the senior Congressmen because they thought it would be easier for them to handle her like a toy since Morarjee Desai was a hard nut to crack. Secondly being the daughter of Nehru, she was a good object to catch votes for Congress Party. But within a short time by being true to her natural self, she splitted Congress Party into two parts and she became the De Facto Monarch of India thus Indian monarchical inheritance remaining into Nehru family only till she was brutally assassinated by her own Sikh body guards because she was responsible for desecrating their religious place in Punjab.

While she was ruling India as an undisputed monarch she started grooming her younger son Sanjay Gandhi to take over from her reins. He was such a rascal; with the backing of his mother he could do anything in India. He was like Saddam Hussein’s one son Uday whose word was authority – either do what I say or else face the brutal consequences. As destined Sanjay was killed in a small plane crash. The deaths of both the mother and son no doubt tragic but were blessings in disguise. May their souls rest in peace and may the heavenly God forgive them for their cruel and brutal sins. However, if they both were alive a little longer period, India would face lot of problems of their making.

After Sanjay Gandhi’s death, Indira Gandhi against his wishes brought into politics her elder son Rajiv who was working as a Commercial Pilot. This she did because she wanted Indian artificial Monarchical system under Nehru’s family to continue. As destined, Rajiv also had to go like his mother and he left this world thru assassination. May his soul rest in peace.

Not satisfied, like shameless Indians to please the shameless Indian voters Congress Party brought in a new Monarch, a foreigner, an Italian, widow of Rajiv Gandhi at the helm of affairs in India. Sonia Gandhi was a novice to politics, she was not an intellectual giant but yet she was brought into picture to maintain the dynastic rule of Nehru family. The shameless Congressmen were so stupid that they even wanted to appoint her as premier of India only to maintain the Nehru family link thru her. Good that spotless person Manmohan Singh was readily available otherwise Congressmen again would make the Indians bow their heads down to white skin as Indians used to do during the British rule like slaves.

According to the latest media reports, Congress Party is in favour of appointing Rahul Gandhi a 41 year old boy and a son of Sonia Gandhi as the next premier of India. This shows again how Nehru dynasty is going to be foisted on Indians. Is Rahul Gandhi so exceptionally talented Indian to rule India? Is there no one in Congress Party a seasoned, a matured and an experienced Indian to become the premier of India? Is Rahul Gandhi so smart a politician to supersede all other experienced Congressmen? Sonia Gandhi will surely make her way clear to get Rahul Gandhi to the throne of Indian Monarch. This is nothing but a dynastic rule of India under Nehru’s dynasty. It is a pity that we Indians are so slavish to accept anybody foisted on us even against our wishes.

While dynastic rule is going on at the Centre, the same type of system is also going on in Goa. Papa Rane after enjoying the cream of Goa brought in Baba Rane from the back door, openly and clandestinely supporting his election to the Assembly from non-Congress party. And now, Jr. Rane is a Health Minister of Goa who is all out to destroy Goa. Mapusa Hospital fiasco is one of his wrong acts. Papa Rane wants his son also to enjoy the Maharaja status in Goa thru dynastic political system and gradually he may elevate him to the post of CM of Goa by making him De Jure Monarch of Goa. Papa Rane knows the taste of being Monarch of Goa as he himself earlier was elevated to that throne. This is another dynastic system going on in Goa because Goan voters are slaves of dynastic system. To maintain this dynastic system concerned politicians will do anything even committing crimes and selling their wives and daughters to the highest bidders.

The next in line coming sprintingly is Alemao dynasty. Alemaos of Goa are grooming their children to follow them and occupy the thrones of the elder Alemaos. Senior Alemaos by being in politics have tasted the charms and greenery filled in politics. When you get portfolios in politics you get all the wealth without spending a penny from your own personal pocket. Ample of money, ample of illicit sex, ample of unimaginable luxuries, ample of power and ample of bribes to lead a life of a Monarch or Maharaja. For such people politics is the only path to get what they cannot dream in their normal lives. Some of the politicians who during their younger days could not afford to see Panjim are now staying in Government Bungalows at Panjim Altinho. This is like a Heaven for such politicians. Once they taste these luxuries they want their children also to taste. Unfortunately the children of politicians are more corrupt than their corrupt politician parents because at home only while in their infancy they learn the knowledge of corruption from their corrupt parents. Once these children attain the role of Monarchs, they implement corrupt practices much better than that of their corrupt parents.

The other Monarchs in making are the sons of Ravi Naik and Monsurate. Without attaining any official positions they are as alleged acting like De Facto Monarchs and with the support of their fathers they are known to have done so many acts detrimental to the good of society. There is a saying in Konkani which says “Raza Podon mhontlear Mort marunk zaina”. But in Goa, the children of the ministers are committing crimes not only on Goans but also on Goa. Why this is happening? This is happening because we Goans like hero worship and we Goans love dynastic system. Are we in position to destroy this type of dynastic system in Goa and liquidate artificial monarchs and also monarchs in making? Or will we adore the children of Ministers as if they are De Facto Monarch? First they start as social workers and finally after taking foothold in politics they become Monarchs like their fathers and mothers. They come as Slaves while coming but while going they go as Masters, to quote Leo Tolstoy.

GOA Maroons crowned Champions in a spectacular finish: J P D’Mello Memorial Trophy (K.I.F.F) League

Kuwait: Goan Overseas Association (G.O.A) popularly known as Goa Maroons won the prestigious J.P. D’Mello Memorial KIFF League Trophy defeating Kuwait Goan Association (KGA) 4-3 in the final played at the ‘Peace & Friendship’ Stadium on 10th June 2011.

The season ending match of the Kuwait Indian Football Federation (KIFF), was balanced in terms of performance in the first half. However it was Maroons who surprised KGA sponsored by Churchill Brothers with an early lead. Prolific scorer Kennedy Ferrao broke the KGA off-side trap by a mile and took his time to round off the goalkeeper before tapping into the empty net.

On the other hand Maroons goalkeeper Guilerme Gomes was able to defend on a number of occasions. KGA who steadily organized themselves in the second half showed class, character and a superb fighting spirit, attacking from all ends with medio Bernard Pires dazzling in the centre. Ismayil, Luis Dias, Vitorin Menezes, Valente, Jacob Dias, Edward Dias, Cristo Colaco, Tiago Fernandes, Anil Thakuri and Vico D’Souza also excelled for KGA. With minutes left for the final whistle KGA drew level through Josse Fernandes who headed home from a corner kick taken by Bernard (1-1).

The extra-time produced no result which sent the teams into a penalty shootout. Maroons, already declared season’s champions for a super performance throughout, were determined to finish on a high. Goalkeeper Guilerme saved the last penalty in the tie-breaker to clinch victory for the champions. Ian D’Souza, Gabriel Fernandes and Bonny Niasso scored for Maroons, while only Valente and John Costa were on target for KGA.Later, Goa Maroons President Raymond D’Sa expressed great joy in the victory and on winning the Trophy, a record equaling fourth time for Maroons in the league history. Navelim Youth Centre is the other team with maximum titles. Maroons coach Julio Cardoso told that such achievement comes with great efforts by the players, noting that the title was a remarkable end to a memorable league by KIFF which is played on league cum knock-out basis.

Earlier, Rising Stars beat United Friends Club (UFC) 3-0 to win the hardline finals for a 3rd position in the league. Prakash, Shafeeq and Lusiano scored for Rising while UFC were strangely found wanting, conspicuous by the absence of some star players.

WHY MANMOHAN SINGH, SONIA & RAHUL GANDHI SILENCE ON LOKPAL BILL?

Is Prime Minister of India a devine person coming from heaven thru the direct appointment of God? It looks like, from the debate going on in India now regarding that he should not be covered by the jurisdiction of Lokpal. Anna Hazare and his team of learned members of civil society are insisting even the premier of India should be covered by the jurisdiction of Lokpal and nobody should be treated above the law. To be above the law the person should be infallible and being a human premier is also fallible like any other human being. Why this special treatment to the premier of India? And why there should be silence on this topic of Indian premier Manmohan Singh? It is a time now for him to speak out his mind clearly and loudly giving support to Anna Hazare team to include his office as well in the ambit of Lokpal supervision. It is said that Manmohan Singh is a very clean man as far as his public life is concerned. If this is so, why he then is afraid to include his position in the supervision of Lokpal?

India is ruled now by Italian lady Sonia Gandhi along with her tiny son Rahul Gandhi thru remote control, their decision carry heavy weight in decision making in India at Government level. Both of them are De Facto Saddam Husseins of India. They can make or mar anything in India. They are at the moment so powerful that they can do anything in India. They both are like dictators and from the past records reading thru media Sonia Gandhi as the wife of Rajiv Gandhi the late premier of India acted very rudely and arrogant with others in India on the backing of the office of her premier husband Rajiv Gandhi. This lady is a pigmy headed woman, her capacity is to handle and control only KG students. To run the affairs of such a mighty country India is beyond her capacity. She will fail India at all levels. She loves dictatorial behaviour for this reason she was the silent spectator of Emergency Rule in India introduced by her dragon mother-in-law Indira Gandhi. She was a part of Indira Gandhi family to introduce and supervise Emergency Rule in India in 1975. Her silence on Lokpal bill and encompassing in its fold the premier of India is giving suspicion of her own real intention.

Both the heavyweights of India’s ruling party Sonia and her son Rahul are keeping the nation gasping for breath by their questionable silence on this crucial issue. Because of this Lokpal Bill there is going to be a chaos in India and the reason for this chaos will be the Hamletic attitude of ruling Congress party headed by Italian lady Sonia Gandhi on Lokpal Bill. Some of the statements of Congress leaders are so negative and so arrogant against Lokpal and those fighting against corruption that they give semblance of the period immediately preceding Emergency in India. Is there any intention on Sonia and Rahul to reintroduce Emergency Rule in India for their own benefits and survival? If it is reintroduced, is there any worth opposition to challenge Emergency? Now there is no Jayprakash Narayan, there is no Morarjee Desai, there is no Vajpayee, there is no George Fernandes and so many others are not there. So what would be the outcome if Emergency is introduced again in India? The silence of mother and son is very disturbing. It looks like Jagjivan Ram then as a silent prisoner of Indira Gandhi meekly obeyed her orders, so now Manmohan Singh is also become the prisoner of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. The ruling Congress Party in India with its anti Indians policy under the leadership of un-Indian Italian Sonia Gandhi is making India a fail state. By suppressing the activists of anti-corruption movement in support of Lokhpal Bill Indian Government is failing the Indians and India as a Nation.

Sonia Gandhi alone will be held responsible for any disaster happening in India and she alone will be held responsible for the mess that India is currently undergoing because of the rampant corruption going on in India propped up by Congress Party Rule.

ADVERTISEMENT BY DUBAI GOANS.

The advertisement on Herald dated 15th June’11 by a group of so called
Dubai Goans has created a flutter all over Dubai. I begin to wonder if
this Dubai Goans body is a joke or a secession of the elite. I myself
was taken back reading the crap that was mentioned in the
advertisement. It potentially shows the degrading mentality of a few
bootlickers who are forever under obligation or look forward to being
under obligation to our corrupt politicians.

Now this particular advertisement has put forth two theories, one,
it’s the bootlickers who are glorifying these corrupt politicians or
second, the politicians sanctifying themselves and both very much
possible, as from past experience there isn’t shortage of bootlickers
in Dubai, infact they are in abundance, where these “abstract notions”
are made chief guests, sponsors and even interviewed for their
benefit. When ever these guys come to Dubai you’ll always find the
ample stooges falling all over themselves to be of service to these
corrupt inapt politicians. As for glorifying themselves, it’s been
running in their veins for decades and today it has embalmed in their
genes too.

I was more than shocked with the contents of the advertisement, my
sympathies with them for they do not know what they are doing or
saying . What I cannot understand is when was this Dubai Goans body
formed and how and when were these honoraries elected ? Most of the
Goans I know residing in Dubai do not have any idea about the
existence of this body, leave alone the luminaries. It is indeed
confusing but then it’s nothing new as most of what’s happening with
Dubai Goans has always been confusing ! Isn’t that right ?

IN REPLY TO VERONICA'S ARTICLE.

Francisco Fernandes has left a new comment on your post "HUNGER STRIKES & KILLING BY SUICIDE SQUADS.":

Dear Bab Veronica,

Excellent article, worth reading and worth of admiring. It has got all the attributes of very high standard with very logical conclusions. Examples are fine and even Biblical quotations fitting to the context. Such articles are rare among Goan writers and as far as expatriate Goans are concerned nobody writes such high calibre articles other than you. In your writings you show lot of your knowedge on different subjects including Bible. Such writers like you are not existing among us in the Gulf. We are grateful to God for gifting you to us. Keep up the goodwork going. Keep up your campaign against corruption going on in India. It looks Indian Government headed by Sardarji is not interested in introducing Lokpal bill. Yuor writings and articles keep Goa Kranti very popular. I am in touch with top people and some of them are keen in reading your articles appearing in goa kranti. Everybody talks of goa kranti only.

Recently Veronica Bab I came accross a DVD done on the condolence meeting held in Kuwait on the death of late Rosary Ferns. I understand it was done under your direction. It was wonderful where I saw you singing a Motet. It was a lost song for the new generation but you made it found again. It was very interesting and the musical score given on Clarinet by musician Aggie Dias was superb. In your talks and compeering you proved to be fit for the post of University Professor. Without looking at the paper you spoke so well. I admire you. Keep it up.

HUNGER STRIKES & KILLING BY SUICIDE SQUADS.

It is sickening to know that one Sadhu, Swami Nigamananda died two days back while on hunger strike in North India, he was fasting in Ghandian style to draw the attention of the concerned authorities and the Government against illegal mining and against polluting of Holy River Ganga. He was an environmentalist wanted the environment to be clean and pure. World is working so hard to keep the environment clean and India as a part of the world is neglecting not only those Indians trying to protect environment in India but worst still that India is allowing environment protectors to die without any importance. This type of India’s attitude towards Indians fighting for the right cause is a curse.

Hunger Strike and Fasting is a method Ghandiji used to put pressure on British Government into submission. Following Ghandiji’s footsteps, after the independence, Indian activists used this non-violent weapon to fight for their rights from their respective Governments. We in Goa never used this weapon against Portuguese Government to get our freedom but after the Portuguese exit from Goa many Goans used this weapon to bring to the notice of Goa Government the grievances of Goans. Though symbolic yet I also observed Hunger Strike along with others at Azad Maidan Panaji in support of Konkani to demand from Goa Government recognition for Konkani and Statehood for Goa. This was done during my vacation in Goa when Konkani language agitation was in progress.

The current phase of Hunger Strike in India is to stop corruption which is like a Cancer. This is a very critical phase of India for the protection of India as a nation. It was easier for Indians to force British Government into submission thru the weapon of Hunger Strike but it is very difficult to force Indian Government into submission thru this same weapon because Indian Government is a stone hearted Government, a corrupt Government elected by the corrupt voters for spreading corruption in India. Indian Government is immune to the sufferings of the masses who are victims of the corruption spread in India by the Government machineries for the benefits of all the rascals running the affairs of Indian Government at State as well as Central Government levels. For this reason Government of India is reluctant to enact a legislation against the Corruption because Government of India wants to rob the poor masses.

At this critical moment Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev rose to the occasion and organised Hunger Strikes in India to force the Indian Government into enacting legislation making corruption punishable by law. Though their Fasts not yet yielded concrete results yet what yielded was the tremendous public opinion against corruption and the need of enacting legislation against corruption. This was the biggest outcome of their Fasts. Both Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev are become the voices of One Billion Indians who are demanding better governance in India at State as well as Central levels. I salute both of them and their sacrifices. Both of them made Indians to revive their thinking towards India. However, I would have been very sad if Baba Ramdev had been killed on that fateful night by the Congress Government security forces when he was on the first night of his Hunger Strike. Good that Baba Ramdev escaped by fleeing from the scene even by disguising in a female attire. A leader like Baba Ramdev fleeing is not new and it was not an act of cowardice. Besides history, Holy Bible also cites examples of how Jesus Christ and Apostle Paul escaped for their safety instead of falling into the hands of their adversaries. Baba Ramdev escaped in woman’s attire while Apostle Paul escaped hidden in a Basket.

By the way, is it ethically and spiritually right to undergo Fast Unto Death? Is it right for any human being to end his own life in this way? Politically it may be right but on religious point of view I cannot on my own liquidate my own life, ending my own life is like committing a suicide and suicide is a Sin forbidden by the religion. Some years back during her first term as a Premier of England, Margareth Tatcher was facing demands from Northern Irelanders for freedom. To press their demands hard, some of them conducted Fast Unto Death in which one or two Hunger Strikers died. Those who died and involved in this Fast were popular figures including world renowned musicians and singers. Because of their celebrity status, their cause received worldwide attention forcing Margareth Tarcher to relent. But she would not relent maintaining her status of "Iron Lady". Finally the then Pope Paul VI intervened, first by pleading for reconciliation between the two factions and when Hunger Strikers also refused to end their Fast, then the Pope issued a bulletin from Vatican saying "Fasting Unto Death is a Sin" and one should not commit such sins. He said Fast Unto Death is a Suicide which is against God’s will. No person can take away his life from him, it is the prerogative of God only and He alone can take away life from oneself.

We see lot of killings amongst us committed by Suicide Squads. They kill innocent people to promote their ideology. By doing this they kill not only themselves but criminally others too. It is an act of suicide as well as homicide, both are forbidden by religion and the worst part of these killings is this that in many times these type of killings are committed in the name of God. Do God allow killings of people in His name? The nations, the groups and the individuals promoting and encouraging such killings are enemis of God and friends of Satan.

WHAT AILS ARAB & MUSLIM WORLD ??

A few years back during the summit conference of Non Aligned Movement (NAM), the leader of Libya Col. Gaddafi said ‘NAM is a big joke’, impotent to get any tangible result for the ills of NAM member countries. In fact NAM was initiated by all the jokers only namely Nasser of Egypt, Tito of Yugoslavia and our cha-cha Nehru. Without physical power to control ill doings of wrong doers your authority is useless. This is what exactly happened to NAM. It is a toothless body to impose its will on other members committing breach. It lacks punitive powers to castigate the wrong doer nations. It cannot reprimand other members because it has no power to force the other members going wrong into submission. It can only advise but its advice is non-binding. This is exactly what is happening currently to the other two organisations, namely Arab League (AL) and Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC).

AL and OIC were formed to settle the conflicts erupted in these organisations but unfortunately what we saw in Tunisia and Egypt yesterday and what we see today in Syria, Libya and Yemen make us to admit that AL and OIC are become impotent to control the volcano erupted there. OIC is having religious backing because it is formed by the Muslim countries to run their affairs adhering to their religious belief. But do these chaotic Muslim nations follow their religious tenets to handle their chaotic situation? I cannot believe that security forces loyal to Col. Gaddafi in Libya with the backing of Col. Gaddafi are raping the Libyan females owing allegiance to the opposition groups. It is not only an ordinary sin but a big sacrilege. How God, how Allah will forgive such crimes committed on innocent females? Where are the Islamic leaders and gurus gone now? Why can’t they raise their voices in unison in the name of their religion against the crime of rapes committed on Muslim Arab females by their own male Arab and Muslim nationals?

I cannot understand why there is so much of human killings in the Muslim world ! Islam is such a peaceful religion that due to its peace loving message there should be no killings of innocent people by Muslims and in the Muslim world. Most of the killings in the Muslim world are taking place on the day of Friday which is to be considered a holy and sacred day in Islam. And unfortunately these killings take place after the prayer in the Mosques. What a tragedy is it !! People after coming out of the Mosques should be refined, purified and holy but instead they become opposite.

Earlier only the Jews were killing Muslims and Arabs in the occupied land and because of this the entire Arab and Muslim world used to make a big noise. But now in Libya, Syria and Yemen innumerable Arab Muslims are killed by their own brothers. Where is the Arab and Muslim world now to raise its voice forcefully against these killings? Brothers are killing brothers to support the protection of the chairs and thrones of their leaders who are shamelessly rotting on their Chairs and Thrones for decades against the wishes of their peoples. Ruling a country for 4 decades by the same person is something ridiculous. Can the mental faculty of such leaders be sound to rule for such a long period?

In the last 8 year war between Iran and Iraq thousands and thousands of Arab Muslims were killed thereby weakening the numerical strength of Arabs and Muslims. Such killings help no one except the Israeli Jews. The loss of Muslims is the gain of Jews. To fight the Jews the Muslims in this region should fortify them and not liquidate their own population.

Islam is a religion that propagates transparency and democracy. Without applying this democratic code son Assad occupied the chair of his father Assad in Syria. Gaddafi is preparing his son to occupy his throne. These are unilateral decisions without following the democratic norms in its true democratic system. In Libya and in Syria people are disenchanted, they cannot accept the goings on there under the one man rules of their rulers since 30 and 40 years continuously. Current new generations will never accept the one man rule of dictators. The time of one man rule of dictators in the Arab world and in the Muslim world is coming to an end but before that lot of struggles are required in which more Muslim Arabs will have to shed their blood. And in the bargain Western Powers and Israeli Jews will be the better beneficiaries of the chaos in the Arab and Muslim world. The chaotic situation occurring in some Arab and Muslim countries now is because of the greed to hold on to power by their greedy leaders who think that they have devine right to rule their nations indefinitely. This is wrong and earlier this wrong is corrected the better it is for the entire Arab and Muslim world.

Maestro Shahu to lead Kuwait based troupe to UK for a Konkani Musical Show

By Gasper Crasto

Kuwait: Kuwait based musician Shahu will travel with a galaxy of top Goan artistes from Kuwait on a tour of UK for a Konkani comedy musical show entitled ‘Tiatrist’ scheduled to be staged at Wembley and Swindon on 19th and 26th June respectively.

The star cast of the show includes well-known artistes Cajetan de Sanvordem, Hitman of Konkani Stage Sylvester Vaz, Gracy Morais, Michael D’Silva, Bab Agnelo, Comedy Queen Querobina, Comedian Mario de Majorda, Maestro Shahu and above all famous Goan Comedian Philip Pereira.

The troupe will perform sensational skits with rib-tickling comedy and a number of songs including a unique opening chorus.

The first show will be staged on June 11 at Copland College, Wembley, Middlesex at 1pm while there will be 2 shows in Swindon at St. Joseph’s Catholic College – the first starting at 11.30am and the other at 6pm.

Amongst the contemporary big names of Goan musicians, the name of Shahu (Francis) Almeida hailing from Macasana - Goa, shines amongst the stellar bracket of Goa's top-notch musicians with his indispensable contribution towards the art.

Shahu may be recognized more in the genre of dramas and he has become most popular in this art after coming to Kuwait. But behind his simplicity, is the unmistakable halo of his talent as a star musician of Goan bands as well. Apart from dramas, with his past penchant and passion for innovative, brilliant music, Shahu has continued on what he loves to do best – hypnotize his listeners to a magical sway with his band 2#Sharp as well.

Few however know that Shahu, a dynamic talent with his keyboard, began his tryst with music drumming his way into the hearts of his school-mates at his school's Annual Gatherings, propelling him into the musical horizon forever. He is the alumnus of St. Francis Xavier H. School Macazana and Guardian Angel College, Sanvordem.

Evolving into an ace drummer, he had the rare and splendid opportunity of honing his musical skills under the baton of Chris Perry, the eternal icon and consummate genius of Goan music and playing alongside his son Errol Perry. With music flowing in his veins, his drum beats reverberated in many well-known Goan bands of the nineties such as 'Ultimate', 'Magic Touch', 'The News', 'Human Status', 'Black Lace', etc, to name a few. Shahu disclosed that he played in over 1000 weddings as a drummer with these groups.

But it was his evolution into a keyboardist that shot him into instant fame. Interestingly, Shahu switched over to the keyboards not on his own volition but at the suggestion of Fr. Livio D'Mello under whose cudgel he played for the choir at St. Francis Xavier's church, Macasana. From then on there was no looking back.

Shahu has indeed come a long way with his association with music spanning over a decade. His musical creativity was elevated further after his arrival in Kuwait in October 1999. He began with a bang in Kuwait-based director Jose Rod's unmatched broadway hit 'Tujem Nanv Vhodd zaum' which was staged all over the Middle East and back home in Goa.

Shahu has also played in Muscat, Doha, Bahrain, Bangalore, Darjeeling, etc, and performed for top directors such as Prem Kumar, Roseferns, Jacob, Menino de Bandar, Pascoal Rodrigues, C.D. Silva, John D' Silva, Ben Evangelist, Rosario Rodrigues, etc, apart from all the directors in Kuwait. He also did a short musical stint playing live music at Dubai's famous Viva Goa restaurant.

Speaking on his experience and performance Shahu said, "I used to enjoy playing at the Rock Greenal annual musical show at Curtorim."

Shahu says his most challenging one-man performance was in Mini Mario's 'Kiteak Ho Bazar Cholta?' staged in Kuwait in April 2007. "I had to pick-up the notes on the troupe's arrival on the morning of the show and I can proudly say that I played to perfection without proper rehearsals," Says Shahu, further adding, "with musical notes handy, I can play non stop music for over 8 hours.

Shahu can be aptly described as a consummate artist with an alluring passion and drive for music. Undoubtedly his heart thumps 'musical' beats, for when it comes to music he is simply indefatigable, endowed with an amazing genius -- coupled with a prodigious memory for music.

Shahu reached the highpoint of his career when he was roped in as a music composer by the doyen of Konkani stage, the legendary Rosario Rodrigues wherein his captivating rhythm set aflame many of the unforgettable hits like 'Hanv Kallukant Sandlim' where Shahu pioneered the unique 'one man band' concept providing the entire spectrum of music on a single keyboard! Under the ace director's able tutelage Shahu had a free rein toying with refreshing, innovative ideas which enabled him to break new grounds by pushing hard the frontiers of Goan music.

With sky being the limit, Shahu went on to produce innumerable chart busting scores for numerous hit dramas and musicals which gained him popularity of a household name.

Music apart, Shahu is an intensely endearing and an adorable human being who attaches great value to friendships and family ties. Blessed with a wonderful wife and a cherubic son named Aerosmith, and a daughter, Shahu is a devoted husband, a doting father and a dutiful son.

Time and experience have greatly enriched his remarkable musical abilities and today Shahu continues to add increasing complexity and refinement to his astounding gift of music which is sure to hold the audience across the Konkan world in a thrall for a long, long time!

POLITICS OF ARROGANCE.

Politics of arrogance by Kuldip Nayar.

When corruption is being hotly debated, the Congress-led UPA government is trying to evade the issue.

The terrorist and the policeman both come from the same basket. This was proved again in Delhi this week when a religious leader, Baba Ramdev, was fasting before thousands of his followers. Policemen of different organisations belonging to the Centre and the states came like tonnes of bricks on the sleeping crowd and dispersed them, using even tear gas. Ramdev was physically removed, leaving many injured, some seriously.

All this happened at midnight on the lines the British would do. The demand was that the government should promulgate an ordinance to declare the black money stacked by Indians abroad as national asset and bring it back. The rough estimate of the black money is more than Rs 280 lakh crore. Getting back the money may be somewhat difficult because foreign banks and their governments have to be involved. President Barrack Obama, however, made it easy by freezing in the US the assets of Switzerland, a haven for unaccounted money. He got the list of American nationals having money deposits in Swiss banks within 48 hours.

It is obvious that the ruling Congress would not go to that extent because some of its own stalwarts in the party and the government are reportedly involved. But if the party has nothing to hide or fear, it can declare the money stashed abroad as national asset. The country has the experience of how kickbacks from the Bofors gun deal were never brought back. So much so that even the go-between Italian businessman, Ottavio Quattrocchi, was allowed to go out of India when numerous charges were pending against him. Obviously, he had the protection of the Congress.

When the matter of corruption has come to the fore again, the government is found evading the issue. It feels as if political rhetoric or brutal force would suppress the demand. And the worse it has done is to swing public opinion in favour of Ramdev. His credentials were being doubted and he looked like wearing communalism on his sleeves. When the BJP and its mentor, RSS, threw their weight behind him, people began to distance themselves from Ramdev. When the police action followed, doubts about him receded into the background and the police methods became the topic of debate. The dutiful prime minister again comes to the rescue of the police by saying that the action was ?unfortunate but inevitable.? Since when has lathi-charging peaceful demonstration become ?inevitable??

People in power.

One, a peaceful demonstration is guaranteed under the constitution. We won independence through satyagraha and such other non-violent methods. Two, must police action be conducted furtively at the middle of the night? And should teas gas be used on women and children sleeping at the pandal? Manmohan Singh and Kapil Sibal are nice people. But why do they change when they come to occupy chair in the government?

Another thing which the police action has done is to bring the agitation of Ramdev and Anna Hazare on the same page. The latter had to defer talks with the government on the establishment of Lokpal to supervise the machinery to eliminate corruption in high places. Again, Sibal was indiscreet in his remark that the government would go ahead with the drafting of the Lokpal bill even if the Anna Hazare team, representing civil society activists, does not participate. They have never talked about the boycott. Why does the government behave in a manner that reflects arrogance? They are people?s servants, not the masters.

The question before the nation is one of corruption, neither Anna Hazare nor Baba Ramdev. They have only articulated the debate. The government looks like clouding the real issue by resorting to diversionary tactics. There may be some more scams which it is trying to hide. It is difficult to say with certainty who among the ministers or the Congress leaders have not stashed away their ?commissions? abroad. Belatedly, the prime minister has asked his ministerial colleagues to declare their assets and business connections, along with statements by their spouses and near relations.

The anger against the government for not taking up charges of corruption and black money earnestly is so high that you could taste it. The Congress would lose heavily if elections were to be held in the next few months. Since there does not seem to be an acceptable proposal emerging on fighting corruption, the country is relentlessly pushed towards fresh elections. Probably, there is no way out.

The movement against corruption may take such a dimension where the government may find it difficult to cope with. I believe the prime minister is fed up and says that ?he had enough of it.? By threatening to resign, he may be able to jolt the party from its slumber. But the manner in which the Congress distances itself from the government makes me suspect something ominous.?

Manmohan Singh was not invited to a recent meeting of top Congress leaders and ministers to discuss the fallout of both fasts. Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who presided over the meeting, is mum. She has to take a stand. The loss is that of her party.

(MODERATOR'S NOTE: The writer Kuldip Nayar is a senior and highly respectable Indian journalist based in India. He was feared by Idira Gandhi and was harassed by her during her emergency rule in India in 1975. After the end of Emergency rule in India he published his book on Emergency rule, title "THE JUDGEMENT" which was just a masterpiece. He wrote regular column in Indian Express.)

BABA RAMDEV - ANNA HAZARE & ANTI-CORRUPTION MOVEMENT IN INDIA.

The biggest hurdle for the smooth running of parliamentary democracy in India since independence was the system of Defection. First Nehru was guilty of not enacting a law to banish it and later on the other Indian Premiers until Rajiv Gandhi became Premier of India. The height of defections in India at the Centre and more in the States was such that some legislators were known to change their parties and defect to other parties of their choice for material benefits almost every day and every hour. In one North Indian State once a legislator named Mr. Ram created a record of defecting innumerable times within a short time, that means he even defected twice a day finally acquiring him a name as “Aya Ram & Gaya Ram”. This name finally became the synonym of Defection. He was the joke of the system of Indian democracy which was torn into pieces more by the Northern Indians. To arrest this trend of defection Indira Gandhi was in a better position by introducing Anti-Defection bill in the Parliament but she succumbed to this type of defection game because she wanted first to play her dirty politics by using the game of defection to woo the legislators of other parties towards her and win the confidence in the Parliament and thus make a big mockery of Indian democracy.

Finally she had to be shot dead – excuse of her shooting was different – and bring in her eldest son Rajiv Gandhi on her throne to bring about the legislation in the Parliament banning defection, that is the Anti-Defection Bill. Though it was not hundred percent perfect but at least with this legislation there appeared a brake on easy defection like Aya Ram & Gaya Ram. This legislation came only because of Rajiv Gandhi who as a fresher in politics wanted to bring about some changes in Indian political system. Otherwise Congressmen running Indian Governments since independence starting from Nehru were guilty of keeping defection not only alive but running smoothly. What Rajiv Gandhi’s grand father and mother did not accomplish he accomplished for the good of India. But this accomplishment was acquired only after the assassination of one mighty premier of India, Mrs. Indira Ghandhi. If she was not assassinated, anti-defection bill would never come into existence. In this regard, her assassination was a blessing in disguise.

Now a movement in India is gaining a momentum to force the Government of India to pass a legislation banning corruption. Anna Hazare has conducted a fast for a few days till Government of India relented with a promise to do the needful. But later on it reneged forcing Hazare and his team to doubt the sincerity of the Government. Breaking its promise is the culture of Congress Party Government. During Indira Ghandi’s premiership Jay Prakash Narayan took the initiative to pacify the gangs of bandits taking shelter in big and deep jungles in North India to surrender with a promise from Indira Ghandi that these bandits will be shown clemency for surrendering. Finally when these bandits surrendered, Indian Government under Indira Gandhi refused to fulfil its promise of clemency. Jay Praksh Narayan was annoyed and was put into embarrassing position because of the betrayal of Indira Gandhi. The dignity, credibility and sincerity of JP came into question because of the crookedness and lying of Indira Gandhi. Then the remainingg was the history and the direct involvement of JP into active politics with a slogan of “Total Revolution” in Seventies.

Government of India under Congressmen is a Liar and Traitor. It encourages looting the nation and nation’s wealth by the few politicians, by not introducing legislation in the parliament banning corruption. By doing this the Government of India is going against the development of India. The Government of India is supporting corruption for this reason forces working against corruption and persons raising their voices against corruption are suppressed. Government of India is promoting corruption otherwise it would spontaneously initiate anti-corruption legislation and bring back black money from the foreign banks. Indian Government has no will to do good for the Indians and India. India is ruled by anti-Indians and corrupt people. Is another Premier’s assassination necessary to introduce in the Parliament a legislation on anti-corruption by the new premier as did by Rajiv Gandhi when he legalised anti-defection?

Baba Ramdev Yadav according to the Government of India is not an upright man. If this is so, then why the crook Government of India sent its top team of Cabinet Ministers like beggars to deal with Baba and plead with him to withdraw the fast in Delhi? If Baba is bad then the Government of India is worst because it deals and begs with the bad person. Government of India now cast allegation on Baba of his wrong doings but where was the Government of India for such a long period to raise this issue? Was the Government of India sleeping for such a long period to accuse Baba and was got up only when Baba went on hunger strike? Baba Ramdev Yadav may be at fault but nobody so far legally proved his wrong doings. Just talking in the air will not help and as a matter of interest Baba has challenged all his detractors and Indian Government to prove his wrong doings in the court of law and if found guilty he deserves punishment.

I am not a follower of Baba’s cult but surely I support his movement to force the Government of India to pass legislations on anti-corruption and to bring back the black money the corrupt Indian tycoons stashed illegally in foreign banks. This money belongs to India and Indians. Those who support good of India will surely support Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev Yadav in their movement against corruption. Both Hazare and Baba awakened the conscience of Indians and now it is the turn of all the patriotic Indians to support them on these 2 issues. I will even support the Devil if the Devil fights for these two causes even though I know the Devil is a Devil. The youth of India like the youth in some Arab countries must work and fight against injustice done to India by the Government of India by supporting the corrupt and corruption. For their better future the youth of India must fight against the corrupt Government of India under the Congress party headed by an Italian Kindergarten lady teacher who for so many years remained in India as Italian citizen inspite of getting married to Indian husband. She disliked Indian citizenship, India and Indians. Can anyone trust the love and patriotism to India of such a lady? Is she capable to lead India?

While concluding I condemn the action taken by the Government of India in brutally uprooting the peaceful followers of Baba in the middle of the night while they were on their peaceful strike at Delhi. In a democracy peaceful resistance is allowed. Worst part of this brutality was manhandling of women and children and even molesting females by the security force of the Government of India. Good that Baba Ramdev Yadav fled otherwise the security as planned would kill Baba thereby putting the blame elsewhere. Government of India under Congress party leadership is capable of committing such crimes. Baba as leader fleeing is not uncommon. Even Mahatma Gandhi in the initial stages of his freedom movement escaped from attracting attention of the British authorities by pushing others in front in order not to fall into the hands of British authorities and thus avoid the rudderless leadership of his movement. On the night of the invasion of Kuwait the entire leadership of Kuwait fled to Saudi Arabia instead of falling into the hands of Saddam Hussein. By fleeing to Saudi Arabia the Kuwaiti leadership managed to work for the liberation of Kuwait from Saudi Arabia. It was not an act of cowardice to flee. Good that Baba was found alive by fleeing from the scene otherwise there would have been chaos all over India. Baba’s fleeing from the scene was the need of the hour.

ONE MORE REPLY ON NISSER DIAS' ARTICLE GOA BANDH DEFEAT ....

Travis has left a new comment on your post "GOA BANDH WAS DEFEATED BY THE PARENTS.":

The only people suffering from the Bandhs in Goa are the people themselves. While the party starters arrive in their Limos and royal chariots to create fear in the AAM admi they converge together and force the small time business people, various company employees and innocent school children to skip their day at work and bear innumerable losses. Strikes were never peaceful in Goa, it was all fueled with rage and anger by the opposite parties. After the bandh would any of these parties level with the losses that people had to bear, no - they are content with their pride and ego that is created by infusing terror in people with their so called Bandh. Lets face it Goa is gone to the Dogs, to rescue it we need to break our shells and hit the Govt where it hurts the most. Their pride and ego. We must not fear these goons that try to ruin our lives by their communal hatred and greed for money, rather strive to make Goa a better place for all of us peaceful Goenkars to live in.

IN RESPONSE TO NISSER'S ARTICLE ON MOI BANDH FAILURE.

Francisco Fernandes has left a new comment on your post "GOA BANDH WAS DEFEATED BY THE PARENTS.":

Nisser,
Great article and you are correct to say that the parents defeated the Bandh and yes they WON the victory for them and not the UNPOD and SHIKON KORUN BURUT politicians.
One wonders if BBSM wanted the bandh to be successful, why would they force the business to shut their shutters down and then claim the business was complete close? what business got to do with MOI I can't figure how they are connected. I would say the bandh would have been successful if only the schools were shut down not the business establishment. So I come to a conclusion that that the bandh was a failure.

I also read that the great administrator of GOA ex chief minister and leader of oppositions was on the road with people forcing the shutters down of businesses is a shame on him, it is a disgraceful act. I hope Panjim people will show him the exit door during the next election. He is a communal person who should be shot and left to bleed to death. Communal you may say why, the true color came out few weeks back. It is not his only but also of our Margoa Blast / Sword case culprit Rakondar Mr Digu Kamat our present CM(hope he to get the exit door this election )YOUTUBE is showing his clips with his wife in a meeting with those culprits from Margao, its free to view see yourselves.

Mr Parrikar and Mr Digu I am saying they are communal becuase it reminds me of Cipriano episode. This catholic guy was beaten to death by the so called peoples protectors in the lock up and he passed away. His body is i belive still not buried as his family is awaiting for justice and they have every reason to. The Balli incident two people were burnt alive which is inhuman to any human and i strongly condemm it. Mr Parrikar wanted justice for those two departed souls and I also want that the culprit to be caught so my questions is what about the Cipriano death murderers who are easy to be sentenced, why is he not asking justice for his soul in this case? Is it because he is a Catholic and the people who died in Balli are Hindus?

It was also a touching story which appeared in Oheraldo about a week ago that our Mafia connected CM visited the breaved family at Balli which must have been a relief to the community, a true politician gesture. My question to our dear CM you visited the family only because you know them personally or you have a hidden agenda? You are a CM of GOA like a father to all of GOA, did you visit Cipriano family after his death? For me it shows your true color that you too are a communal and you have every reason to be as the saying goes" BIRDS OF SAME FEATHER FLOCKS TOGETHER", Dear CM and leader of oppositions, i have a gut feelings that both of you, your days are numbered just keep counting how long you two can be in limelight.

Now comming back to BBSM, i think they should back off now from the subject MOI as it is the parents who decide what is good for the child and not any political parties. I salute the parenst for defying the bandh you all are the winners and dont bow down.

Parrikar what mediun did your son study ????? Marathi or Konkani ? He is in USA correct? What is the language he converse in USA unless Marathi and Konkani is the second language of the people in USA. Please dont thrown stones on glass house when you yourself is staying in that type of house. Learn there is still time for you to repent on your error.

FRANCISCO'S REPLY TO ELDON.

Francisco Fernandes has left a new comment on your post "ELDON AGAIN ON BABA RAMDEV YADAV.":

Dear Eldon,

I would appreciate if you could please eloborate on the statement " BABA RAMDEV IS A MASCOT OF BJP".

What I dont understand is why would you call him a mascot of BJP when he is not targeting any political party. What he is saying as I read between the lines is that " he wants the black money which is stashed in foreign bank of indian natioanls to be brought back to India. He is not saying get the money back of only Congress politicians, he is saying in general to get the money back, so how come is he a mascot of BJP? STRANGE!!

I also read that he wants to craete a force of about 11000 volunters and I hope he does create one which will teach the attackers a good lesson. UPA goverment has misused the slogan of Democracy word.

Long live BABA and as days go by I am become a vivid fan of his without knowing ABC of word YOGA. But I support his fight against the issues of black money and corruption.
