NEED OF AWARENESS & SUPPORT FOR LOK PAL.

Over the years, we know how the Governments have always made their own policies in hiking the food prices, petrol prices, medical treatment & taxes; thereby creating inconvenience to the common people of India . These ministers have lost sensitivity & interest in the welfare of the people, although they do it willingly but behind the back there would be a heavier price paid by the common man unknowingly. The reason for this insensitive approach by the politicians is only because of their greed of gathering illegal money thereby blinding the same people who voted them to power.

The political mechanism nowadays is so over-flowing with money that these politicians have lost track of how to earn money by hard work and live an honest life. There was an instance wherein there was this politician who was stinking rich. So one of my friend happened to ask a close buddy of the politician as to why he was contesting the election even though he has so wealthy and had been re-elected several times. The answer was simple “He likes doing social work and for the betterment of his people”. I bet you all would have heard such answers many a times in the speeches given prior to elections. But what do we do about it? We just go & vote for the same politicians time and again without even thinking whether they would keep their promises or forget us. Some of us don’t have choices also since there are hardly candidates who are willing to contest because of the fear of being bullied and scared away by the big politicians in the area. I am sure the stinky rich politicians don’t forget their people. When I say ‘their people’ its not the common man like you and me, but the few hand-picked ones who have always been topped up with goodies in their pot.

Remember, you may be given the bait of few hundreds or may be thousand in your pocket just for your vote but the other hand-picked ones are always showered with plenty. Some politicians promise the youngsters for better technology & hi-fi stuff. These are some of the tricks to lure the younger generation but one should question these politicians as to use this so called ‘better technology’ why not have uninterrupted power supply, 24-hr water supply, clean roads & surroundings? These are some issues that these big fellows need to address but they are least bothered, just what matters to them is that they would try to implement hi-fi technologies and get some commission over it and fill their already over-flowing pockets. But my point is not to talk about all this, which probably everyone knows about and sits ‘susegadh’ over it as always but only to create awareness that if we think sensibly about a candidate or even encourage new hard working candidates who will do good for the community on a long run then we could definitely bring a change in our own state. Recently, I read about the amount of possible black money of politicians that has been found in foreign banks is amounting to numerous crores of rupees with some involvement of goan big fellows ( Refer to article -

http://www.goachronicle.com/goa/expose/18217-names-of-goa-politicians-on-intelligence-agencies-watch ) .

Imagine if we Goans had a share of this hard earned tax payers money in our custody then we could have had a better life for our families and not go away from them in other countries in search of a better living. In order to clean this disease of corruption, we need to force the implementation of the Lokpal bill. This bill is one of a kind which will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians accountable for their deeds. But the Lokpal bill has been in a freezer for some decades now thanks to the Governments in the past who fear that it will stop their looting habits. We see the support for Anna Hazare growing day by day; people are getting educated over the flaws in the politicians running the Government but we need to act. This man ‘Anna Hazare’ is putting his life at risk just to get a better future for us so that we live a clean life. So can’t we render our support to this one of a kind movement to clean our state & country forever? It’s just a start, we need to stand firm on this issue; may be one day we will see a corrupt-free state.

CORRUPTION AND THE LOKPAL.

Corruption And The Lokpal With all that’s been happening in India, thanks to Anna, the Jan Lokpal has become the breath of every Indian today with a few exceptions. There is absolutely no doubt, that with the deluge of scams that have flooded India in the past decade or so, we do need a very strong Lokpal Bill to curtail and arrest this gigantic anomaly of corruption that has spread like cancer and is derailing India and even Goa.

All said and done the Jan Lokpal looks to be a healthy antidote for corruption, but what worries me most, is that, almost every public institution and most of the NGO’s have been run by our Politicians directly or indirectly through their corrupt tentacles. The Panchayat Raj, that is the basic local body at the grass root level, which should have been free of politicians and their political influences, have also been hijacked by out Netas and Babus as their own personal fiefdoms, so what exactly will stop them from doing the same to the Lokpal and the Lokayukta ?

The Lokpal says the process of selecting or electing the Lokpal body will be transparent, haven’t we been talking of transparency for ages ? Unfortunately we are still bond and blinded by opacity for the best part of the twenty first century, will there ever be transparency in India and more so in Goa ? In our democracy, everything was suppose to be transparent, is it ? Not even by any small standards !

I am not a pessimist, but I too fear that all the efforts of the leaders and the people who are fighting against corruption and for a strong Lokpal Bill, should not be like water on the duck’s back. The success of the Lokpal will certainly depend on how we, as citizens of India and Goa, deal with corruption, refrain from encouraging corruption and act against corruption. The Lokpal can only give us the parameters but it will be we who will have to guard our boundaries against corruption. The million dollar question is are we Indians and Goans upto it ?
