FUNERAL OF DOMNICK DE
TERAKOL HELD YESTERDAY AT TERAKOL-GOA.

“LUTTINI LOKH ANI
LOTTANI DHUKAM”, that was the scene for the funeral of Domnick de Terakol,
yesterday 13th of this month at 3.00 PM. It was a multitude of people around 1000, from
different faiths and coming from all
over Goa. According to some elders,
never in the history of Terakol such a mammoth attendance gathered for any
funeral in that village. Why Terakol,
rarely one could witness such a mighty gathering anywhere in Goa especially for
a man who carry no official or diplomatic status. In fact, his simplicity, sincerity and zeal
to fight for the social causes were his official
status. His fight against mighty
hoteliers, the Leading Hotels Co. made him a hero not only of Terakol but also
of the suppressed people of entire Goa by the Non-Goans. In fact in his death he became greater
hero of Goa.
Seen are the innumerable priests in the Church.
There was no place in
the Church even to stand nor to walk on way to the cemetery. There were priests and priests,
intellectuals, social workers, politicians and others attending his funeral purely
to respect the sacrifices this man made for the sake of his village and
Goa. It was nice to see even the Archbishop
of Goa, Filipe Neri Ferrao concelebrating the Holy Mass and showering enormous
praises on the deceased for the good work he did in the service of society for
the right cause.

The sermon preached by
the local parish priest Fr. Theo summarized the late Domnick’s works into three
categories: 1st he said Domnick was a Tiatrist, secondly he said
Domnick was an Activist and thirdly Domnick was a Sis (deciple of
Christianity). He in his homily even raised the issue of the ongoing tussle in
Terakol and the use of nasty Bouncers against the locals as we all know about
it.

In his thanks giving
speech, the priest son of the late Domnick, Fr. Daniel coming from Rome for the
funeral, spoke very philosophically and intellectually about the virtues and
characteristics of his late father, putting
more stress on the work his father did for the good of Terakol residents. It
was a sheer pleasure to listen to such an excellent oratory.
Body is taking to the Cemetery for burial
Among others there were
some politicians attended the funeral, namely Trajan D’mello and Jose Philipe D’Souza
from NCP and MLA’s Rohan Kaunte, Naresh Sawal and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco
while Luizinho Faleiro paid a hurried
visit to Domnick’s residence before the funeral.

Lourenco and Faleiro
must know that it was their Congress Party in the beginning that welcomed the
Leading Hotels Co. in Terakol and precisely because of this the entire problem
crept in Terakol even taking away one precious life of a precious Goan, the late Domnik de Terakol. In such a
situation offering of condolences is the cheap mode of gaining cheap goodwill
but people from Terakol and elsewhere are fully aware the worth of the
Crockodile tears.

In his statement
Luizinho Faleiro said that “Tiatro fraternity has lost a great performer who
stood for his rights”. Unfortunately to
my knowledge I did not see any prominent nor known Tiatrist attending the
funeral. By the way, how they will? They
must have already felt pigmies in front of the mighty Domnick the Terakol who
genuinely falls into the category of great intellectuals of which type there is
none in the Tiatro fraternity now. This
being the case, how they will understand the worth of the great Domnick de
Terakol? Only the Goldsmith knows the real worth of the Gold and Diamond.

courage to his family members to bear this colossal loss.
