COMPETITION TIATRO “TU MHOJE SUKH”

On 25^th of this month, at Kala Academy Panjim, starting at 7.00 PM, I saw the Tiatro “Tu Mhoje Sukh” presented by JJ Production, St. Cruz and attended by a good number of attendees.  This was one of the best Tiatros of this competition so far where every artiste peprformed well.  However, especial mention must be made to the roles played by Clint and Antonette as husband and wife and Sybil as their elder daughter. Velony Dias played her role well too  In the comedy roles, both Valanka and Rod did well but the former did extremely well.

IS YOUNG GOAN BOY "A MESSI IN THE MAKING IN USA?"

Rarely I heard a Goan making a mark for himself and his community in the West in the sports especially in soccer when soccer is in the blood of Goans even though innumerable Goans are born, brought-up and settled down in the West.  However, in the academic field Goans have shown very good results. But why not in sports when this field is of great love for Goans and when there are so many facilities at their disposal in the West.  In UK, Germany and Portugal there are innumerable Goans born and brought up there only and yet there seemed to be no interest shown in soccer in these countries by any Goan.  Even during the colonial days in Goa, not a single footballer neither a promising nor a fully developed Goan was recruited to Portugal to play for the Portuguese teams when the two greatest negro footballers of Portugal namely  Eusebio and Coluna from Portuguese African colony Mocambique  donned the colours of Portugal.  Morevoer, Coluna was appointed as skipper of Portuguese National team in the World Cup tournament held in England in 1966 where the great Black Panther Eusebio was declared as the highest scorer of the tournament.

Now, according to my latest information, Goans like me should be happy to know that one 8 year Goan boy in the USA is fulfilling the ambitions of Goans by climbing the ladder of soccer in the USA and in Spain at Barcelona Club.  It looks to me that this Goan boy is “in the making of Goan Lionel MESSI”, let us all soccer loving Goans spread all over the World pray to God to help this boy to come up to that highest level and turn not only into another Messi but better than Messi. With the encouragement of his parents, both mother Vailia Fernandes and father Jerome Fernandes presently settled down in the USA at Cincinnati, Ohio, their 8 year old son Jayden R. Fernandes I am sure will surely reach to the pedestal of soccer either in the USA or at Barcelona or anywhere in the Western Europe.  The youngster Jayden is the grandson of well –known Goan personality Remedios and Suzana Fernandes both from Calangute and currently in the UAE at Dubai.  Remedios is a well-known Stage artiste popularly known as Remy or Young Fernandes who was my colleague at St. Xavier’s College Mapusa and a great lover of soccer and admirer of my sporting prowess

Young Jayden is currently living in the USA at Cincinnati – Ohio and is a 3^rd Grade student St. Margaret of York School.  

With regards to his football prowess, last year Jayden attended a football camp comprising 5000 boys  and girls in the USA from different parts of the World, this camp was organized by ISL Futbol with FC Barcelona official Coaches in his hometown at Cincinnati, to be a part of the All – Star Team to be trained at the FCB Escola HQ, in Barcelona, Spain.  Out of these 5000 boys and girls selected from 20 FCB Football Camp locations across USA, less than 10% of the players got selected to join the All-Star squad. The All-Star Training camp was held in Barcelona in last November 2016 for a period of 10 days where Jayden got selected due to which he got an opportunity to train at the World class facilities of FCB Escola where he was made a part of “Team Messi” which was a great honour for him and along with other selected players Jayden participated in an advanced intensive training programme based on the FC Barcelona methodology.  Besides, Jayden got also an opportunity to play against the local Spanish Academy teams like Poble Sec, Escola Pia and Club Esportiu Mercantil. He also watched a FCB La Liga game at Camp Nou, the home ground of FC Barcelona.

This was truly a remarkable and unique experience for an 8 year old boy. He enjoyed every minute of it and got to meet some famous players in the process. Even more amazing was that Jayden was selected for the All-Star Team for a second consecutive year in 2017, and recently returned from Barcelona in September where he played more games and trained at the next level.

He was also selected to train at the Manchester City FC Academy in Manchester, UK but he will be unable to participate this year due to conflicts with his school schedule.

TIATRO KHORENCH MOG TO KUDD'DDO

COMPETITION TIATRO “KHORENCH MOG TO KUDD’DDO.

On 21^st of this month, at Kala Academy Panjim, I saw the Tiatro written by Amar Sawant  starting at 7.00 PM.  Attended by the mediocre number of attendees, it was well presentd by Media People Entertainment, Neturlim where all the artistes played their roles well and  every singer sang well. However, Creto, Eddy, Gloria, Meena and Krishna Gawas played their oles very well.

The story revolves around deep love  beetween Creto and Meena and because of this love the total disaster comes as it was beautifully shown in this Tiatro.

The comedy part was extremely well performed by the ace comedian Ortencio who was ably supported by Milban and Evola. 

In the Side Show songs, all the singers sang well but especial mention must be made to the songs rendered by Ortencio, Evola, Francis Xavier and Candida. All the sons including the Cantos were composed by Ortencio.

TIATRO “TUM NHUIM” BY SABY DE CALANGUTE.

                                                                                                                            

On 18^th of this month at Kala Academy Panjim, I saw the competition Tiatro “Tum Nhuim” written and directed by Saby de Calangute.  No doubt it was thinly attended yet it was well performed by all the artistes.

The story indicates the power of God for anything is in His hands and not in you and me. It is thru this power that one handicapped brother Anderson wins the court case over his  other able bodied brother Derek  who wanted to grab the entire wealth of the family for himself.  Both the brothers played their roles well so too  the elder brother’s wife Loyena , she showed all the best qualities in her performance  and indicated that she is ready at any moment to join the professionals.

All the three comedians namely Johny, Anthony and Rima  performed  very well and they all  deserved compliments. Rima was extremely talented comedian.

The Side Show songs were good where besides others  both the youngsters Shawn and Andrew rendered their songs very well. Andrew in particular was extremely good in singing with style.  Agostinho’s solo on Tiatro history was very well composed and rendered.

The Scenes shown were very good and Stage setting was also good.  The director took lot of pains to stage this Tiatro for which he deserves highest compliments.

FEAST OF REMED SAIBINN AT MONTEIROS CHAPEL, CANDOLIM.

MONTEIROS CELEBRATE FEAST OF THEIR CANDOLIM CHAPEL.

Monteiro's Chapel of Remed Saibinn approx. 300 years old

15^th of this month, in Candolim at Monteiro’s Chapel, the feast of "Remed Saibinn" was celebrated. During my younger days I still remember how the devotees used to come in big number to celebrate this feast as this Remed Saibinn was known to create miracles of granting the sick the remedial cure after paying homage to this Chapel dedicated to Remed Saibin. Remed in Portuguese means Medicine and all who asked cure for their sicknesses they used to get immediate cure after praying in this Chapel.  The visit to this Chapel was like Medicine for the sick.

The ancestral palatial house (built in 1603) seen next to this Chapel belonged to Monteiro family  whose one son the late Dr. Gustavo Monteiro was the most popular not only in his locality but even beyond.  He was like medicine for most of the sicknesses of human beings not only physical but also in other respects.  He was a very helpful man who used to help people in whatever way he could.  After his death there is no replacement for him born in Candolim and according to me it is unlikely in the future too.   His other brother Pe. Chico Monteiro too was one of the most popular priests in Goa who was a great social worker and highly intellectual.

Dr. Jose Monteiro the elder son of the late Dr. Gustavo Monteiro is yet another doctor in the family currently carrying forward the tradition of Monteiro family of giving medicinal cure to the physical sicknesses of the patients who are coming to his Clinic even from distant places. Dr. Jose's younger daughter is also a well known doctor attached to GMC.

DEATH OF GREAT CANDOLIMKAR.

DEATH OF A GREAT CANDOIKAR – JOAO  BAPTISTA SIQUEIRA.

It is with deep sorrow I write this piece on the death of our “ghaum-bhau” the late Joao Baptista Siqueira on 13^th of this month and interred today at Candolim Church Cemetery.  The funeral was well attended by his closest, nearest and well wishers not only from the locality but also from beyond.

The late Joa Baptista was my colleague in our village from my youth when we were playing soccer together, picnicking together and also doing other extra curricular activities.  Being physically strong he was our protector especially during the soccer matches and many times he saved us and other villagers from the hands of our opponents in the aftermath of the soccer games  when we were winning.  To fight and protect the villagers was his duty as per his thinking and this was what he did throughout.  In mid sixties and early seventies, the security of Candolim was rested into his hands especially during the soccer matches.  He gave his life for Candolim during the critical time even by undergoing pains for him. Because, he loved Candolim, he loved Candoikars.

He himself was a good footballer playing as goalkeeper for the then famed Candolim team called BRAZIL formed by Pe. Chico Monteiro. He was very good in diving for the ball though he was physically  heavy.  Representing this team he played many parts of Goa and earned name and fame for himself and for Candolim Brazil team.

He was a good Tiatrist organized in our locality doing the role of aged woman and good singer also singing Duets and Trios with Anthony Mesquita mainly. He was a good organizer of the Tiatros also in his locality and very much known in Tiatro circle.

He was very much active in local and Goan politics directly and also thru remote control.  He had vast following in his locality and he supported his followers very much during their needs.

He enjoyed good respect in his village and he was a decent man having a decent family consisting of his nice wife Helen, 2 daughters and a son. I offer my deepest condolences to all of them, may God give them courage to bear this colossal loss and for him ETERNAL REST.

TIATRO "BOREM KORIT BOREM BOGIT"

TIATRO “BOREM KORIT BOREM BOGIT” BY JOSE & IVON FERNANDES.

Written and directed by encouraging Tiatrist Jose Fernands I saw the Tiatro “BOREM KORIT BOREM BOGIT” yesterday at Kala Academy Hall, Panjim, starting at 7.00 PM.  This is the 4^th competition organized by Kala Academy of Group B. 

The Tiatro was attended by more than 50% of the capacity of the hall and since this was the first Tiatro of this competition, every person attending this Tiatro was anxious to welcome every artiste on the Stage which was well set by the director, especially the erection of the Goan traditional Hut.

The story of the Tiatro is very simple but with a moral lesson saying if you do good then you will enjoy the good.  The play is concentrated on one single artiste who is none other than Ivon the charismatic wife of the director Jose Fernandes.  She played the major role in this Play as an aged woman who though a firm believer in God yet the most problematic woman fighting with everyone namely her husband and neighbor. Ultimately in the end she paid the price for what she did to others.

The other side of this play was the union of a Chritian girl and a Hindu boy which was nicely narrated.  The roles played by Jose, the Hindu man, his son, his Christian girlfriend were worth admiring.

The Side Show songs were good but most of them were centered on Religion.
