PORTUGAL – FOOTBALL – GOA.

After Ronaldo inspired Portugal drew their encounter with Spain on 15^th of this montH in the World Cup match, I wrote an article ‘VIVA PORTUGAL” in this column highlighting the greatness of Ronaldo and Portugal. After reading it, I received calls using foul language against me and even giving sort of threats to me so that I should not praise Portugal and anything that is Portuguese.

One of them said that “you being a Christian, you enjoyed better facilities during the colonial rule”.  I replied to him saying the best of benefits during Portuguese time were enjoyed by you and your community members.  The entire Trade and Commerce of Goa was handled  by your community members, so also the entire mining industry and not by the Desouzas, Fernandes, Braganzas etc.  Good that the job facilities for Tarvar, Gulf and Africa were opened otherwise my community members would suffer a lot. Portuguez has not done any special favour on them just because they belong to Christian community, along with others the Goan Christians coming from lower strata of the society also suffered the persecution of Bhattkars and Bamonn.  Inspite of doing so much for your community you are against Portugal, you are BEIMAN. And on top of it you are commanding me to stop supporting Portugal?  To hell with you. I will support whomever I feel like supporting. 

The other said ‘we fought against Portuguese in Goa as Freedom Fighters and threw them out of Goa. You Christians did nothing to overthrow the Portuguese from Goa, on the contrary you fully co-operated with them from the time they first came to Goa”.  For this, I answered to him thus, that what Goan Chrisans have done and fought for the overthrow of Portuuese from Goa your AZO and AZI have not done. The failed Pintos revolution was done by the priests from Candolim and they were ably supported by Abade Faria.  Another Christian from Navelim Salcette Dr. Francis Luis Gomes who was the Member of Portuguese Parliament raised the issue not only of Goa’s liberation so forcefully but also of India’s too when Nehrus and Ghandis were not born.

Innumerable Goan Christian Freedom Fighters have suffered so much of persecution from the Portuguese for the sake of Goa.  They took active part in Goa’s freedom movement to drive away Portuguese from Goa and hold Goa into the hands of Goans only without any outside interference but you people involved in freedom movement of Goa to convert Goa into a Hindu Raj because I said, you are fanatic communal.  You have revenge against Goan Christians for this reason en masse you supported and joined MGP, only to liquidate Chritians from Goa.

 Among the criminal and robber Freedm Fighters, you are the worst who robbed and killed so many innocent Goans.  You, I further told him, had no marbles in your Zontir to fight with Portuguese Pakles  because you are cowards.  You harassed only your own fellow Christian Goans.  And finally I told him that never say again that you have liberated Goa.  You did nothing, you had no potential and power to liberate Goa.  You got ready made liberation of Goa thru its conquest or invasion by the crook Nehru government.

Then I told him that we as Christians never co-operated with the Portuguez from the time they first came to Goa with their Comander Afonso de Albuquerqe who conquered Goa. Goan Christians were not responsible to bring Portuguese to Goa but it was your community member TIMOJA, a high ranking Officer under Adilshah, who begged with Afonso de Albuquerqe to come to Goan soil along with his Troop.  It was he a non-Christian who gave Goa on silver platter to Portuguese.

The other one said ‘you have no love for India and Goa but only for Portugal”. I said you are wrong. I love my Goa as much as any other patriotic Goan. Because I love Goa, along with my entire community I supported anti-merger Opinion Poll issue in Goa while you in greater number supported merger. You are traitors and major portion of your community supported doling of Goa to Maharastra but we prevented it and its benefits you are enjoying now withou any shame.

Just because I supported  Portugal in World Cup that does not mean I am anti-Indian.  Portuguese have not done anything bad to me, it is our own Goan Bamonn and Bhattkars who harassed us.  It is they who wanted Portuguese Raj in Goa and not Goans like me. But because of Portuguez we got lot of benefits and good characteristics though they colonized us for long. One  thing they did worst for us  was that they failed to hand over power in our hands instead they allowed them to be driven out and made Bharat to colonize Goa once again.

I wish Portugal all the best in World Cup.

THE LOW STANDARD OF ASIAN SOCCER.

After watching the inaugural match yesterday between the host country Russia and one of the Asian Giants Saudi Arabia, of the current World Cup going on in Russia, once again it was proved how low the standard of Asian soccer is.  Though Russia is not a super power in soccer as compared to others in Europe and South America yet the Russians made a mockery of the Asian powerhouse Saudi Arabia.

      

In 1982 World Cup held in Spain, Kuwait qualified for the final phase.  During its encounter with Platini’s France, when the Frenchman scored one of their goals, the Kuwaiti defense remained motionless thinking referee has whistled for some infringement but when they found that the match referee blew his long whistle for the goal, the Kuwaiti players rushed to the referee questioning him how he allowed this goal when he already blew his whistle earlier, but the referee said he did not blow the whistle twice, that is, earlier he did not.  That means somebody behind the goal among the spectators must have played the mischief. 

There was heavy argument on the field, the big man of Kuwaiti soccer administration Sheikh Fahad watching that match from the VIP Gallery wearing his brownish National dress – Distasha – came sprinting from the Stands on top all furious and by making a sign in his right hand indicating to the Kuwaiti players standing on the ground not to play any further.   In his capacity as the top official of the Kuwaiti team he cannot act that way.  After some consultation, the referee withdrew that cntroversal goal and the match restarted again.  Later on the FIFA reprimanded Kuwaiti soccer team and heavily fined Sheikh Fahad.  Somebody said that this Kuwaiti Prince thought that he was dealing with Indian domestics at his house coming to work in Kuwait from Goa and not with FIFA which is the most upright body in the World.

According to my assessment, till what  saw till today 15.06.18 at 6.30 PM, World Cup this time will be a drab affair without much entusism.  I don’t think in this W.Cup we will get a chance to see another Pele-Maradona, Zico, Falcao, Rummeniege, Eusebio and many others.

THE GREATEST FOOT-BALLERS OF THIS PLANET.

In the recorded history of soccer, there were many top class foot-ballers came into this planet and with their sheer artistry of marvelous footwork with the ball, they have dazzled the spectators.  However, the two more talked about foot-ballers are the Brazilian Pele known as Black Pearl and the second is Diogo Armando Maradona an Argentinian.  Between the two I rate Pele, after watching him on Video Films and other TV documentaries and even by reading, as the most perfect player  and as such the best this planet has so far produced.  He was the perfect player because he used his both the legs with perfect equal ease and above all he used his head so perfectly well that some of his best goals came thru his header including the most memorable one he scored in 1970 World Cup final against Italy.  With his right foot he could tell the ball to do anything he wanted except talk.

Besides, he was very tricky and could easily fool the defender by pooling  towards him when he would run in the different direction and  leaving the ball empty for his colleague to shoot in the goal.  However, the greatest gift of his was his good luck that helped him to be closer to the ball near the goalmouth facilitating him to easily score the goal. In football luck is the most important factor otherwise the 1982 Brazilian squad captained by Dr. Socrates would win the World Cup  instead of losing to Paulo Rossi’s Italy in the midway; Brazilians then had everything in their team to become champions except luck and that bad luck denied them the much needed draw only and not the victory, against that crucial match with Italy.

The 1982 Brazilian team consisted of gigantic players of which type never seen before not even in 1970.  Can we get again players like Eder, Dr. Socrates, Zico, Serginho and others?  And what about their teamwork created by their genius coach Tele Santana?  We will never see again such a brilliant teamwork nor another Tele Santana.

Maradona no doubt a great but not perfect as Pele because Maradona was one legged player using his left leg only and totally weak in the header. During his playing days Maradona became very popular because during his time TV transmission was easily available all over the globe for the people to see him around the World playing  his excellent game.  This TV coverage gave him lot of extra mileage and tremendous publicity that made the people to say that he was like a God of foot-ball as it was accepted him in Banglaesh. Such a TV and Video coverage was not existent during Pele’s time and because of this much of Pele’s greatness remained hidden from the eyes of the people worldwide.    

If you go a step further, you will still find 2 more foot-ballers who according to some world renown soccer pundits remain much taller than both Pele and Maradona.  These pundits did their evaluation and assessment based on their first hand information after watching all of them playing on the field. And finally they passed their verdict that the great Alfredo Di Stefano an Argentinean who later on got the citizenship of Spain and the other one was Ferenc Puskas a Hungarian.  Their highly skillful soccer remained far from the major portion of the World. At least Puskas played in one World Cup for Hungary and soon he joined Real Madrid where he found equally great player Di Stefano in mid fifties.  Their best of soccer they both played for Real Madrid where they were scoring so many goals.  Their duo was unstoppable, it was said at times that they were communicating with each other thru Telepathy to take the next step to score the goals.  And it was also said that without turning their heads back,  they used to pass the ball to each other as if they were having extra eyes at their back side too.  

Such foot-ballers come to this planet only once in centuries.

WORLD CUP 2018 IN RUSSIA.

THE most exciting sporting event World Cup 2018 is going to start on 14^th of this month and I am eagerly waiting to watch it on TV.  With my full admiration to the Frenchman Jules Rimet for initiating the World Cup Soccer Tournament which was first time held in Uruguay in 1930 and won by the host country, the number of contestants was only 13 and that too invitees. In the absence of almost 2 years of grueling qualifying matches to reach to the ultimate final phase as it is done now, the first participants were very lucky to get a spot in the final in Uruguay.  However India was unfortunate to decline to participate in the 1950 World Cup held in Brasil when 3 other Asian teams withdrew, because Indian players were known to play barefooted which was not accepted by the organizers.  

From 13 teams in the inaugural  tournament to 16 to 24 and now 32 teams and still thinking to go up to 40 in the near future, FIFA is doing a wonderful job in organising this tournament every four year.  No other sporting event unites the people in this world as this tournament does because soccer is the only language the entire world population understands because of this it is said that “where Esperanto failed, the game of soccer succeeded” in bringing the world together under one medium.

When the Frenchman Just Fontaine in 1958 scored the highest number of goals in a single tournament of 16 teams this record still remained intact till today inspite of increasing the number of teams to 32.  Came Pele, Eusebio, Maradona, Zico, Paulo Rossi, Lato, Gerd Muller and so many others but none could break that record created by the great Fontaine, inspite of having so many advantages.  This indicates that the soccer is become now defensive where too much stress is put on defense to prevent getting goals and more goals. Will anyone break the record in this World Cup, created by Just Fontaine in 1958?

When Pele first time played in this tournament, he was aged only 17 ½ in 1958 but in 1982 World Cup held in Spain his record was broken by the Northern Islander Whiteside when he played for his national team as the youngest kid.  Who will break this record  in Russia?

In 1966 World Cup held in England, the captain of Argentina, Rattin  acted like a wild animal when he went to hit his own player while playing against England and in 2006 Frenchman Zidane  head butted Italian Matzerrati like a wild Rhino. Will such nasty incidents occur again in Russia? I hope not.

No other sporting event bringS the world to stand still as this sporting event does.  Even world summits and conferences are delayed or postponed to allow the participants to watch this tournament. Popes and Cardinals, Kings and Monarchs, Sheiks and commoners are all show interest in this sports.

Let this sports create love and peace in this world.

IS GOA GOVERNMENT ALIVE OR DEAD?

In thirties when Gandhiji was  alive, the high caste Bihari Hindus burned alive so many Harijans. Ghandiji felt very bad seeing this gross injustice done to the poor Harijans.  Within a short period of time, Bihar was flooded with heavy rain that killed a great number of the Biharis. Commenting on this, Ghandiji said that this was the devine punishment for hurting the innocent poor.

I do believe in devine punishment because I believe in God and where there is God there is bound to be justice. Based on this logic, I am now commenting on the local political scenario and the injustice some politicians are doing against others thereby inviting devine punishment.

During his last debate in his last Assembly session Wishnu Vagh acting like a wounded “Ranantlo Vagh”, scolded the Church and the Diocesan Schools Society and concluded saying that “we also will go ahead and build our own schools and then we will teach them a good lesson”.  Within a few days, Wishnu Wagh was shifted to Mumbai hospital for treatment. It is a pity since then he never recovered to challenge the Church and Diocesan Schools Society. What wrong the Church has done to non-Catholics?  Did the Diocesan Schools closed their door to the non-Catholic Children?  Why such a hatred for Diocesan Schools? Why hurting the minority Catholic community and why such a animosity towards Christian?

In the last election, Congress Party got a clear majority needing it to form the government but with his brute power in an unethical manner Parricar changed the whole victory of Congress and by manipulating the result even by forcing the Governor to toe his line, Parricar formed the BJP Government thereby hurting the sentiments not only of the elected Congressmen but more than that of the electorate who voted for Congress Party. What an Himalayan injustice Parricar has done and for this reason I feel as devine punishment Parricar had to spend the last three months in American hospital in the Christian USA from where will he come back all right?  It looks doubtful because he will have to pay for the injustice that he committed on to the Congress Party and those voters who got elected the Congress candidates.  Devine punishment surely comes.

Pandurang Madkaicar is yet another victim of the devine punishment  for the pride of the display of his wealth even to the extent of erecting his Bungalow at Old Goa thereby shadowing the religious monuments of Chrstianity.  For this pride and arrogance there is only one punishment that is the devine punishment which Madkaicar is facing. 

Francis D’Souza is helping the BJP to do wrong against minority in Goa by keeping silence for the every injustice done on Christian community when he should raise his voice against it. In this way he is supporting BJP to do injustice to Christians. He too is afflicted with bad sickness for this reason it is said that he is gone to Europe for treatment.  He got no peace because he spoiled the peace of peaceful community. Hence what men cannot do God is doing by giving him devine punishment for indulging in dirty politics for his selfish benefit.  It is a pity that by being a member of the minority community he is supporting the tirade against his own community. What a tragedy that this man has reached to such a low!

    

Vasco MLA and a supporter of BJP is also indulging in doing dirty politics in support of BJP to gain him personal benefits.  While doing this dirty game he does not care for anything but for his selfish interest. He too is afflicted with sickness that keeps him constantly under tension and worried.

This means almost the entire BJP government is sick and since this being the case how can we move forward in giving good governance? There is nothing going ok in Goa and everybody is waiting for Parricar to return.  Will he or not? It is a Hamletic question. Till such time Goa has to suffer because they treat Goa as their fathers’ property. They are not interested in the good of Goa and Goans.  This BJP and its elected members it looks will not only devour the Goans physically but even soully. 

It is not my wish to see them punished by God like this but what can I do to stop this devine punishment? God is omnipotent and He alone know that what He is doing is right.  But I can still pray to God to forgive them because they are power hungry and burning with anger and revenge against Christians when Christians are not a belligerent community.

NEW TIATRO "OMOR MOGACHI KANNI" BY IRINEU GONSALVES

On Tuesday 4^th of this month, in Panjim at Kala Academy Hall, at 4.45 pm I saw the new Tiatro “OMOR MOGACHI  KANNI” written and directed by the well-known director Irineu Gonsalves.  It was well attended by the Tiatro lovers who went home after seeing the last scene, satisfactorily. The end part of the story was so suspense that to get the real answer everyone remained magnetized to his/her seat.

It was such a wonderful Tiatro that rarely in the recent past I saw such a display on all the fronts namely Storywise, Sideshow-Songswise, Comedywise and Musicwise. Every artiste male as well as female played his/her role very well proving high caliber of the director in coaching the artistes.  However, especial mention must be made to the two main artistes handsome Tari and beautiful Jessica who both played their roles as lovers very well.  Rarely earlier they reached to such a crescendo of their acting. The dialogues and proverbs introduced in the story were of high quality so also the Cantos especially the first romantic canto based on the tune of Malayka and and beautifully rendered by Tari and Jessica.

Both Tari as a highly educated son of a “Kharvi” and Jessica the high profile daughter of an aristocrat “Bamon” parents fall in love. What type of love? It was an inseparable love.   However, the parents of Jessica both Rosario de Benaulim and Dola  in no way agreed to allow their daughter to merry the low caste boy.  Because of this caste discrimination, they both boy and a girl including boys parents played by Rosario Botelho and Carmeen Barbosa suffer too much humiliation.  The roles played by Bothelho and Carmeen were worth admiring so too by Rosario de Benalim and Dola.

This story was of the Goa as seen in early sixties and as depicted by the director on the Stage very beautifully and adroitly.  Earlier in fifties the legendary Minguel Rod used to script such powerful Tiatros and because of such  powrful Tiatros the effect of caste system in our society and community in particular was minimized but  never eradicated.

Though both the lovers face tremendous boulders on their path yet after undergoing all the miseries they finally successfully attained their goal.  However, after 50 years of their married life the wife is afflicted with the Alzheimer sickness that requires lot of caring love that her husband gives her and finally succeeds in bringing her to her normal self.

Among the others who played their roles well deserving mention here are Sundeep Calangutcare as a doctor and Willy. 

The comedy part was well handled by the ace comedians John de Silva and Sally who were ably supported by Alelxinho de Morjim and his wife Lorna who both possess lot of potentials to promote and develop Konkani Stage.

CONDOLENCE MEET FOR THE 5 TIATRISTS.

Yesterday,   4^th of this month, I attended a condolence meeting  organised by Tiatr Academy of Goa, at TAG  Auditorium, Campal, Panjim, starting at 5.00 pm and attended by the admirers and the relatives of the 5 late Tiatrists namely Cajetan Pinto (Caiti) a make-up man;  Inacio Rosario Luis (Jali) a musician – Drummer;  A. Fernandes (Tony Sax); Francis Xavier Mendes  and Francis X. Barreto. This was the condolence meeting organised by TAG especially to mourn the death of all the mentioned artistes.

The  official of TAG Mr. William  spoke on the contribution of these Konkani Stage stalwarts towards the development and promotion of our Tiatros. Among the audience who volunteered to speak on the subject were A. Veronica Fernandes, Tony Sax’s son and Tomazinho Cardoso.

Mr. Veronica focused his speech on Tony Sax and more on the comedian Xavier Mendes one of the sons of the legendary Konkani Stage comedians Anthony Mendes who according to me was not only one of the best but the best comedian of Konkani Stage so far. Those who saw the Konkani Movie “Amchem Noxib” will surely have the taste of Mendes power while others like me who also saw him acting on the Stage must have tasted the real taste of his comedy much more.  He never bastardised the Konkani Stage by using filthy and vulgar language as it is currently done in some of our Tiatros.  The more horrible thing to know is that some of the directors are practically involved in pushing some of the bastardised comedians especially those “kalche porche potte”  to use the vulgarity in their Tiatros.  And when they are criticized for disgracing the Konkani Stage thru vulgarity they react negatively.  One of them was the one who like  a slave was  licking my shoes at my place even late at nights begging with me like a beggar to feed him with the good matter to script his political Tiatros and to compose his political songs. I never came across such a “Beiman” tiatrist.  Good that in short time only he showed me his true colours. He should know one proverb in Konkani “Eka Kapddan Bail Mathari Zaina”.

Xavier Mendes along with his other two brothers, eldest Felix and youngest Derek helped me in my campaign from Kuwait to work for the cause of Konkani by way of acting in our Tiatros staged to raise funds for NOVEM GOEM Konkani Daily.  Even otherwise they as Mendes Bros. stood by us for any good cause of Konkani and Goa.

Unfortunately, many of the Goans who did so much for Konkani cause from Kuwait are neglected and forgotten in Goa.  If Konkani cause gained so much of success  for its cause  it was partly because of the strong financial support came from Kuwait. Now government is giving aid and grant but that time there was no  such grants and hence Kuwaitkars played their role well.  Those who are not aware of this should know now.

In his speech the son of Tony Sax highlighted the excellent work his father did as a tiatrist and as a father to them. It was a very touching tribute coming from the son to his father, only highly intellectual and matured persons full of wisdom can speak like this.

Speaking on the subject, Tomazinho Cardoso lamented the discipline of the tiatrists WHO failed to attend this meet.  He also spoke on the new book coming shortly on the dead tiatrists

NON-LOCALS & GHANTTIS SUPREME IN CANDOLIM.

In my village there is a small Vaddo called Araddy, its residents were  small in number but in the recent past because of migrants  its population is increased.  The new settlements where migrants are settled is also called GHANTTIANCHI Araddy by the locals. This Araddy officially called as New Araddy where the settlements and the houses built by the migrants are without planning and in many cases without proper licenses from the official authorities.  In case of any fire breaks out there then everything will go into flames.  The whole area was built haphazardly and hazardously. According to the locals, the local licensing authority is responsible for this unplanned and unauthorised settlement zone of migrants. It was the local Panchayat and MLA of that time responsible for this mess which they made to create a vote bank for them.

Some of the local leaders who were ruling the village affairs including the current chief are guilty of permitting to construct the Araddy settlement illegally and yet again they are ruling the village now.  They are not proper administrators to rule the village,  this is the quality of the people who are ruling in our villages. If such “Ghorvam Rakhne” rule our villages then there will be nothing good in our villages.  Especially, when non Goans and non-locals are given an opportunity to rule our localitis then these non-locals will do nothing good for the locals and locality.  The non-locals will never be faithful to our localties, they will be interested in themselves only to build their own Bunglows, hotels and Restaurants etc. This is very bad and very sad.  I cannot understand how they allowed the migrants to construct their houses without proper plans and documents? In fact, the whole settlement at New Araddy looks illegal and such illegal structures are allowed to construct normally by taking heavy bribe by the loal rulers.  So those responsible to allow these illegal houses are to be blamed.  Can anyone trust such people to rule our village and constituency? We must reject them now only before they approach us for our votes again. Moreover by infiltrating in our Communidades they are harassing the locals also.  Very shortly they will finish the Communidades too. 

By allowing illegal constructions many of our Sarpanchas and Panchas   and also MLLA’s built their own financial empires. Money from where they got? Surely from the heavy bribe they got from all those ghanttis and migrants.  How suddenly they became lakhpotis when their base and ancestry were so poor?  For such rogues politics of corruption is good and thru this you come to know how disgraceful family background they have. On top of it they are moving in society shamelessly like barberians after committing barbarity of bribery and corruption.

Candoicars must now only start a campaign to demand from the current local leaders and rulers who and how they allowed the new illegally constructed colony in Araddy and who was responsible for this.  Many of the eligible non-Goan voters from new Araddy are dual voters, that means they are voting in Goa as well as also in the regions of their origin or in their birth places in India from where they are come and settled in Goa. In Goa and in New Araddy many of the migrants as told to me are selling their votes and because of this the rascal candidates prefer them because these rascal candidates can afford to give them money which they accumulate thru loot and bribe. For this reason, those candidates and parties that are in opposition must start a campaign thru proper channel to bring this topic to the notice of the Election Commission or to any other relevant authority to stop this dual voting system. 

Meantime, the leadership of Candolim is in the hands of rogues who are fit only to dictate the terms to the locals and not to Ghanttis and Migrants.  Candoikarani atam tori zaiat zage.

Candolim is the land of world renowned revolutionaries like Abe Faria and Pintos and recently of Pe. Chico Monteiro who fought singlehandedly against the government of India. Candolim is not a land of migrants and ghanttis who are acting like Maharajas and are ruling our land.   We must stop these ghanttis from ruling in our land as early as possible.  One such Ghantti is harassing the locals to take his personal revenge. This bloody bastard leader is using threathening language against his opponents as if Candolim is his father’s property when In fact he does not know who his real father is.
