GOVERNOR SANKARANARAYANAN COMPLIES WITH RTI ACT IN MAHARASTRA BUT NOT IN GOA.

Goa Governor Mr. K. Sankaranarayanan like his predecessor Dr.S.S.Sidhu has refused to comply with the Right to Information Act.

The Goa Raj Bhavan this week has refused to furnish information soughtby Adv. Aires Rodrigues under the Right to Information Act whilecontinuing to claim that the Goa Governor is not a Public Authority.

Adv. Rodrigues had sought details of the total expenditure incurred in2011 on the Goa Governor’s official and unofficial visits out of Goa.

Adv. Rodrigues has today questioned as to how GovernorSankaranarayanan who as Governor of Maharashtra was complying with the Right to Information Act, was strangely claiming that in Goa he was not a Public Authority.

Governor K. Sankaranarayanan who assumed charge as Governor of Goa on 8th September 2011 is also the Governor of Maharashtra Adv. Aires Rodrigues has stated that it was inconceivable that the same person was taking a different stand as Governor in two States.

Stating that the Right to Information Act was enacted to ensuretransparency and accountability, Adv. Rodrigues has wondered as to what the Goa Raj Bhavan was trying to conceal by blatantly violatingthe Right to Information Act.

Reminding Governor Sankaranarayanan that even the President of Indiawas complying with the Right to Information Act, Adv. Rodrigues hasdemanded that the working and functioning of the Goa Raj Bhavan beopen to public scrutiny.
