INVESTIGATE CANDOLIM PANCHAYAT.

On 27^th of this month in Candolim at Panchayat Hall, a special meeting was held by the Xetkar COMMITTE TO revive the farming activities in Candolim which are stopped now due to various reasos.  One of the major reasons according to the people gathered there was the release of sewage water from the Hotels into the fields.

If this is the case then how these hotels were given licenses by the local Panchayat to start functioning?  Who is responsible for this? Was it not the local Sarpanch of that time along with all the Panchas who remained partners in the crime?  I am sure the Sarpanchas of that period must have surely approved the licenses for these hotels only by accepting bribes otherwise how they dared to commit these crimes of giving licenses without proper documents for the work done?  This is the reason that our Sarpanchas and panchas accumulating enormous illicit wealth by selling licenses thru bribe. 

In Candolim people must initiate investigation to find out how the current and earlier Sarpanches issued licenses to Hotels – was it with the proper formalities or without thru the acceptance of bribe money?

If Candoicars are real Candoicars then they will initiate an enquiry to find out the mischief done by the local Sarpanchas.  If necessary they must take recourse to legal means otherwise our Sarpanches and Panches will sell our villages to the outsiders especially by those Sarpanches from outside whom we call them as Ghantteetees. These Ghanttee Sarpanches are acting like Dadas in our midst which has to be stopped.  Their robberies and briberies must be exposed, some of them came in our villages like beggars and now started acting like Maharajas. These are the worst culprits who pretend to be saints in the garb of Chor.

REMEMBERING AT TAG THE LATE 14 TIATRISTS.

On 28^th of this month at TAG Auditorium in Panjim, starting at 4.30 PM,  a condolence meeting was held to  remember those yesteryears Tiatrists who died in this moth. They were altogether 14, the prominent ones were Minguel Rod, C. Alvares, Alred Rose, Rosary Ferns, Shalini Maddolcar etc.

As usual the attendance was thin, it was such a horrible scene to see that with the exception of one or two, none of the current Tiatrists attended this Meet, not only this Meet but infact none of such Meetings they attend.

When call was given to the members of the audience to speak on anyone from these 14,  Mr. A.Veronica Fernandes volunteered to speak something more on the late Rosary Ferns. In his short speech, Mr. Veronica raised the issue of Kuwait Tiatistanchi Sonvstha which was formed by the enemies of Tiatro in the name of the promotion of Tiatros but actually it was formed to keep Rosary Ferns out of Tiatro.  This was done because the man who  was jealous of Rosary Ferns initiated this Sovstha and all the "bloody Bastards" who know their mothers only but not their fathers, accepted this injustice to Rosary Ferns.  A few of these Bastards are seen acting in Tatros in Goa and singing songs against injustice but in reality they support injustoice as they did for Rosary Ferns who otherwise gave them so much of help and opportuities to act on the stage in Kuwait. Those who wants to know the real quality of Tiatrists from Kuwait then they should know that these Kuwait Tiatrists are "BEIMAAN" of first grade.  It was not surprising to know that they were "Beiman" on Rosary Ferns only but worst part was that they were Beiman even on Kuwait when they refused to openly support Kuwait when Kuwait was invaded by Iraq. Some of them were flirting with their concubines when Kuwait eacuees were organisig their rallies and meetings in Panjim against Saddam Hussein. If it was not for Kuwait these Tinpot Tiatrists would rot   on the road in Goa. Good that  Kuwait was liberated in 7 months only otherwise these Tatrists and many like them the Kuwait evacuues would just rot in Goa. Many  of these Goans got girls to marry only becaue they were in Kuwmait. Hence, they must thank Kuwait for giving them some standing in life.

Incidentally, the man behind this crook idea was sentenced by God to refrain from acting in Tiatros when he has got such a vast potntial to act in Tatros, to write and direct Tiatros. I remember one of the Tiators "Devachea Marank Avaz Na " staged in Kuwait by Rosary and how significant the title of this Tiatro now for the architect of this Kuwait Sonvstha. He wanted to banish Rosary Ferns from the Stage but due to serious sickness he was banished from entering the Stage.  Rsary Ferns DIED and gone peacefully but those who wanted to destroy Rosary Ferns were themselves got destroyed - DEVACHEA MARANK AVAZ NA.

NEW TIATRO "GOODBYE PAPA" BY IRINEU GONSALVES.

An excellently scripted story of a Tiatro ”GOODBYE PAPA” by renowned and elite Tiatrist Irineu Gonsalves the son – in-law of equally renowned Tiatrist the late M. Dod de Verna, was staged yesterday – 28.08.18, at 7.40 pm at Kala Academy Hall, Panjim. Being the first show, it was very well perfomed by all the artistes including the Musicians and besides it was well attended by the near capacity attendees who came  not only from Panjim and ambient places but also from different distant places of Goa.

It requires strong nerves to follow the story the end of which was kept silent till the last minute and to know the reality one has to be on his toes constantly.

The story is surrounded on one child - a young boy - of around 8 and a couple Jessica & Willy, his mother (Dola) and the couple’s  two children, a boy and a girl. Since this Tiatro is going to be staged all over Goa, I refrain from disclosing the details of the story.

The roles played by the attractive Willy and charming Jessica as husband and wife were excellent, so too by the majestic Dolla as a mother.  The roles played by all the children deserve highest compliments and greater compliments to the director who trained them so well.

All the 4 comedians as depicted in the photo here  - 3 males and a female – played their roles well.  Neto as usual was on his peak with his flexible body while the female comedian attracted lot of attention.  John D’Silva and Sally as usual performed their best comedy.

The Side show songs were good but among all the songsters, Olga and Saby de Divar tore R anes into pieces in their highly political solos. Benny de Aldona, Marcos  Vaz, Rosario de Benaulim also rendered their solos well, so also the political duet by Olga and Anil, duo by Benny de Aldona and Rosario de Benaulim and a Trio by Joaquim-Benny& Partner.

THE MONTEIROS - THE PROMOTERS OF SOCCER IN CANDOLI.M.

THE MONTEIROS  FROM CANDOLIM.

In my village Candolim, the tremendous amount of work done in the development and promotion of the game of soccer by Dr. Gustavo Monteiro was unique and the same cannot be equalled by anyone.  If Candolim village soccer has attained such a solid base it was only because of the excellent work done by Dr. Gustavo Monteiro from 1955 approximately.  It was during this time that he took over the reins of Candolim Sports Club and registered Candolim team into Goa Football Association. 

The Candolim team then had gigantic players in its fold of which type are not even seen now for GOA XI.  Some of them were named as: Goalkeepers Antonio (bokem-Orda St.Cruz) & Shripad (Vaddi); Defenders: Andrew Machado (Orda St.Cruz), Baba Naik (Bikulo) Annavaddo, Bushan (Vaddi), Koya (Sinquerim);  Midfielders: Komal (Vaddi), Jose Marie (Araddi) & Madhu (vaddi);  Forwards: Cheddo (Araddy), Babazinho Machado (Orda St. Cruz) & Reginaldo Soares (Orda St. Sebastiao);  Outers –Left: Satchut (Vaddi) and Right: Luis – Papa (Vaddi).

Within a very short period, Candolim team was promoted to the Primeira Divisao which was the top division then engulfing in its fold all the elite foot-ballers from Goa, Portugal, Mozambique & Angola.  In this Candolim team there were three brothers from Vaddi, namely: Komal – Madhu – Satchut and 2 brothers from Araddy namely Cheddo & Josemarie and 2 more brothers Andrew & Babazinho Machado from Orda St.Cruz. Babazinho Machado was such an excellent dribbler that such a dribbler even  now I have not seen anywhere in India.  Goalkeeper Antonio was so good that in diving for the ball from one end of the pole to the other was nothing for him, he was diving like a “Bokem” and precisely because of this he was nick-named as Bokem. The Centre Forward Cheddo was such a powerful sharp shooter that there is yet another Cheddo of that era to be born again. He had unique distinction of scoring a goal almost from the centre line from the current Candolim ground and his brother Jose was exceptionally gifted in scoring  goals thru header from the corner kicks.

Within a short time the name of Dr. Monteiro spread all over Goa and even in Portugal as an expert in soccer who was responsible to raise the standard of the local village team to the pedestal as never happened in Goa before. The major financial burden of running the Candolim team was shouldered by himself only while some assistance coming from Mr. Silva another soccer crazy man from Candolim who combined well with Dr. Monteiro to enhance the quality of the soccer in Candolim. Then Dr. Monteiro was inducted in the GFA as its President thru the election process and shortly he was taken to Portugal as a mark of honour for his excellence in this field.  
  

The gift of soccer ground by him  to the Candolim Panchayat was the greatest act of sincerity any human being can do now especially in the post 19.12.61 period when an average Goan  has become a totally corrupt man where he will do anything for acquiring money and more money.  But Dr. Monteiro was not a corrupt man who would do anything for the sake of money and precisely because of  this high calibre characteristic of his, he surrendered his rights and powers over the Candolim foot-ball ground to Panchayat.

This foot-ball ground area was acquired by the Nuns to build a Convent School there but due to some difficulties the Nuns have surrendered this area into the hands of the Patriarch of Goa and left Goa for elsewhere.  Later on with his sincerity and perseverance Dr. Monteiro approached the Patriarch of Goa requesting the Goa Patriarch to hand over the ground to the Candolim youth to convert it into a foot-ball ground for them to play foot-ball and thus keep them occupied. In fact at that time there was an imperative need of foot-ball ground for Candoikars in the absence of one.  Then the Patriarch of Goa handed over this ground into the hands of Dr. Gustavo Monteiro.

On 26^th of this month, during the Candolim Graham Sabah Meet, in the light of his tremendous amount of contribution in the development and promotion of foot-ball in Candolim, it was decided to display the Portrait of Pe. Chico Monteiro the younger brother of Dr. Gustavo Monteiro whose efforts in developing Candolim soccer will remain written in the history book of Candolim in golden letters as this writer has done in his two masterpiece articles published in the book ”PADRE CHICO” – To The Manner Born, to mark the 100^th birthday of the late Pe. Chico Monteiro. The contribution of Monteiros in the development of sports in Candolim in general and foot-ball in particular will always remain on the topmost position  even though Pe. Chico’s involvement in Candolim started only after his exit from Lar at Panjim in early 1962.

Howerver, the contribution of Dr. Gustavo Monteiro was much deeper and most powerful than that of any other Candoicar and as such his Portrait should also adorn the wall of Candolim Sports Club along with that of Pe. Chico and moreover the Stadium that is under construction now by the Village Panchayat should be named only and only after Dr. Gustavo Monteiro as a fitting tribute to his enormous contribution in the development and promotion of Candolim foot-ball.

CREATE GOODWILL BETWEEN INDIA & PAKISTAN.

Further to the latest news in the media on Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu going to Pakistan for Imran Khan’s ascending to the throne of Pakistan’s Premiership, let me quote one example of mine. It was  about ten years back when I was in Kuwait, I wrote in the local daily “ARAB TIMES” asking Pakistanis and Indians in Kuwait, living with  Hindi-Pakistani brotherhood, to establish an Association, “Indo - Pak Friendship Association” But the Indians from North India working in Kuwait alone rejected my proposal even dubbing me as pro-Pakistani while other Indians and Pakistanis welcomed it.

After  establishment of this association I had great wish to discuss the issue of Kashmir where because of our ego we are losing thousands of our productive manpower and  millions of our  Rupees which are just a wastage to prevent Kashmiris on both the sides from becoming one.  Kashmiris from both the sides will one day secede from the bondage they are undergoing now from  India and Pakistan. And when they are released from the present bondage, we will regret for keeping them thus for such a long period thereby depriving them of their birth right to be free from the bondage. Didn’t the great Indian leader Lokhmanaya Tilak give a slogan  “Freedom is my birth right?” Is it then right on our part to demand freedom for us with the excuse that it is our birth right and when the others request the same freedom from us, we deny them?

Regarding the Invite from Imran Khan to a few of his friends from India to join him in his Oath taking ceremony, I feel they all should have gone and attended the inaugural  function where they  should have whispered into the ears of Imran Khan  to make all out efforts to create a peaceful atmosphere in  Kashmir and elsewhere on our common border.  By going there we would gain something at least but by not going,  will we gain anything?  NothiInding. Hence, it is better to go than not to go.  We both Indians and Pskisatanis are suffering from revenge complex and because of this pride complex we are both suffering and will go on suffering.  The onus for the creation of peaceful athmosphere between the two neighbours falls on India and as such India must walk the path very carefully.

70TH BIRTHDAY OF A. VERONICA MARKED.

On the 18th of this month, at Calangute Hotel Goan Heritage, at 11.30 AM,, A. Veronica Fernades, celebrated his 70th Birthday by holding a get together of his close relatives, friends and the associates.  The celebration was started with the welcome speech to the guests by A.  Veronica’s daughter Aveshah who especially came from Dubai along with her small daughter Clyshah and also Veronica’s son Ashton from Kuwait.

The compeering of the entire proceedings was done by the activist and journalist and Editor of the monthly magazine Jivit, Mr.  Jude Michael Gracias who along with the well-known Stage Artiste Valensy rendered a special song in hour of Mr. A.Veronica Fernandes.

· The daylong programme consisted of speeches by the well-known personaltes on the achievements of A.Veronica during his last 70 years.  A. Galaxy of  speakers starting first from the well-known Goan sporting personalty and ex custodian of Dempo,  Eugeno Cardoso elaborated Veronica’s early sporting  career as the topmost foot-baller in  Candolim and as a topmost athlete and runner at Arpora School and at all Goa level too.

Then came Mario Rebello who as a colleague of Veronica in Kuwait participating almost every activity Veronica conducted for the cause of Goa, elaborated in details the work Veronica has done for the cause of Goa, Goans and Konkani and soccer. He went to sch an extent saying that the work that Veronica did from Kuwait was unique and besides him none was capable of doing from Kuwait what he did, why Kuwait only, not even any where in the expatriate world, especially that of Konkani movement

·   Then Prince Jacob who stressed on the development of the community and repeated his request once again to Veronica to take the initiative to start a Bank of Gued lf/expatriate Goans on the pattern of how Kuwaitkars formed Hotel Goan Heritage and many of his like minded friends will surely support this venture.  He further said that Veronica should not deter by the politicsd where since  Veronica is a part of politics and where there is Veronica there politics.

Wll-known activist Mr. Kennedy Afonso though surprised to be aware of the colossal amount of inventory in favour of Veronica in the Konkani movement was quick enough to give due credit to Veronica. He said he was fortunate to have Veronica among them the activists to support any good cause for Goa.

Mr. Jerry Cal a long time friend of Veronica who knows him thoroughly well since 1962 the year they both joined Arpora School after finishing their Portuguese School, described Veronica with minute  details from every point of view namely his activities such as athletics, foot-ball, studies and etc.  Mr. Jerry threw more elaborate lights on Veronica’s life and made known to everyone Veronca’s esrly life even declaring Veronica got married to his first cousin sister.

Availing of this opportunity, A.Veronica Fernandes was felictated for his enormous contribution in the service of commnity causes.  First by Prince Jacob for Veronica doing so much for the promotion of Tiatros, Tiatrists and the art of Tiaro.  The second by JIVIT MAGAZINE edited by Jude Michael Gracias for Veronica's writings in Romi Konkani.  And the third by Hotel Goan Heritage under the skippership of Tony  Correia and Alfredo Fernandes.

TIATRO "DEVAK ZAI ZALEAR' BY ROSEFRNS.

NEW TIATRO OF THIS SEASON “DEVAK ZAI  ZALEAR” WRITTEN AND DIRECTED by the renowned and century maker the one and the only one on Konkani Stage, Roseferns.  It was staged in Candolm on 13.08.18 to mark the feast of Nossa Senhora de Boa Morte.  During  my younger days devotees used to come on foot from distant places for which we used to say “ROMARI”. 

The Tiatro as officially declared in writing will start at 7.30 pm but actually started at 8.15 pm which means a criminal waste of precious time. For this I find fault with the orgnisers  of Tiatro.  By not adhering to the timing given by them  the organisers are putting the members of the audience if not all then at least some into so much inconnience.  

Is it right on the part of the Candolim Church authority meaning Pe. Vigar and members of his Tiatro committee to stage a Tiatro right at the entrance of the Church where a few feet away is kept the Blesed Sacrament in the Holy Tabernacle in the Chapel called Morgadlem Kopel?” Why is it called a Mdorgadalem Kopel?  One family from Candolim, Dando side,  had no child but had lot of wealth.  They one day took a vow in the Candolim Church in front of “Nossa Senhora de Esperanca” to do something for this Church if they get their first Child. Luckily they soon got the male child and then they came to the Church to meet and discuss with the Pe. Vigar their proposal to build a Chapel as an extension or annexure to the Church towards the Cemetery side. The Church Engineer refused to grant permission to touch the wall of the Church saying the whole Church may collapse.  For this, the Morgado’s  parents agreed to depost with the Church an amount to build not only one new Church but 3 such new Churches. The new born boy was called Morgado and that Chappel is called “MORGADALEM KOPEL” 

It is a known fact that now there is no real born comedian on the Konkani Stage and overwhelming majority of those who are existing on Konkani  Stage are ‘landde”, they are Tailless and as such they are not full fledged. Hence, they are not capable of producing peals of laughter in the hall.  Then they make the audience laugh by using sexy words, vulgar statements and words having double meaning. This type of vulgarity was used by the comedians in this Tiatro of Roseferns.  As a director of this Tiatro and as a matter of fact a renown and a seasoned director, Roseferns should have kept his eyes like an Eagle on the vulgarity expressed by the concerned comedians and get the same deleted from the comedy.  A pure and perfect born comedian will never use words having double meaning nor sexy words nor vulgar words. This type of half baked comedians are weak as Stage artistes having intellectually weak audience. 

In this Tiatro as a slap on the Christianity the comedians expressed vulgarity and words having double meaning which should have been avoided in respect and reverence to Christian doctrine especially when the Holy Sacrament is so close to the Stage. I object the commercialisation of Christianity.  And by the way these Tiatros business is as it seems to be is in aid of Scool. So how long this type of  collection will continue on? What the government gives is not enough when the Bishop is having as zero investment in this school? This school was built with the contribution and donation of the locals almost all of them Catholics. 

The Tiatro was well enected by all the artistes where especial mention must be made for their respective roles played by Antonette de Maina, Roma, Betty Alvares, RoseFerns, Rosario de Benaulim, Tari and Creto.

The comedy part was handled by Agostinho, Neto, Dorothy and others.

In the Side songs the singers  who sang well were Cajetan de Sanvordem, Roseferns  Benny de Aldona (Solos), Duet Roma & Rosario de Benaulim, Trios Antonette de Maina-Dorothy-Roma and Cajetan – Tari – Creto.
