Today at Mapusa in
front of the Civil and Criminal Court, at 9.30 AM a Dharna was held in protest
against the continuation of her duty when the Judge Dvijple Patkar was charge
sheeted for, reportedly committing an offence against one of her family members.
When the Dharna was in progress, the accused Judge Dvijple Patkar was performing
her duty in the Court delivering judgment, ironically when she was found guilty
for committing an offence.
Judiciary at Mapusa
One section of the attendees
Whether she is really
guilty or not will be decided by the competent authority but filing a charge
sheet against her spoils her image as an upright person to perform her duty
judiciously. Even in the eyes of the
Lawyers her image will be very small now compared to her mighty judicial
post. In such a situation, it would have
been better for her to submit her resignation or go on long leave or for the
concerned authority to dismiss her from the service because her image as an
upright person is already tarnished which is very bad for the smooth and
upright functioning of the judiciary. By all means she must remain “above suspicion”
in the eyes of everyone.
Poster of Judge Patkar
Today’s Dharna conducted
under the leadership of Adv. Aires Rodrigues made mockery of the judiciary in
Goa. If there is Dharna like this against
a functioning Judge then what is the integrity of Judiciary in Goa? Thru this Dharna the Judiciary in Goa was
brought to the level of a Fish Market when passersby on the main road were
laughing at the whole scene. It was very
sad to see such a pathetic state of affairs of our Bharati Judicial system.
Another section of attendees
The Dharna was attended
by over a hundred people from different segments of the society including some
Gulf returnees namely Miranda of AVC from Kuwait and this writer. They
all were ferocious in their continued slogans such as: EK DO - EK DO – PATKAR FEK
DO. HAI-HAI-HAI -
PATKAR CHUHA HAI.
Aires addressing
Before ending the
proceedings, the leader of this move Adv. Aires Rodrigues speaking to the
gathering asked the concerned authorities to dismiss Patkar from her service to
uphold the dignity of the Judiciary.
