GOA CHIEF MINISTER MISLEADING GOANS.

CM MISLEADING GOANS ON LOKAYUKTA

by Aires Rodrigues

The Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar should not mislead the people of Goa on the Goa Lokayutka bill. Goans had been expecting an honest and transparent administration with Mr. Manohar Parrikar as Chief Minister but the functioning of this government has been very disappointing. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar should stop taking Goans for a ride

On the issue of the Goa Lokayukta bill, the Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar had on May 6th said, "The file has reached the president's office, she (President Pratibha Patil) has gone aboard. She will be back on May 8 and then we will follow it up."

Yesterday I called up the officials at Rashtrapati Bhavan and was shocked to learn that the Lokayukta bill had till date has not even reached Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Mr. Manohar Parrikar needs to be honest and truthful in all that he speaks and does It is unfortunate that even the Chief Minister’s word cannot be trusted. Mr. Manohar Parrikar in his election campaign had promised that the Goa Lokayukta would be functional within 100 days of his coming to power. If the Chief Minister is really serious on curbing corruption the Anti Corruption branch needs to be made fully functional while the State waits for a Lokayukta.

The Chief Minister had vowed zero tolerance to corruption but he has given a three month extension in service to Director of Prosecution Mrs. Shobha Dhumaskar instead of suspending her to ensure a free and fair probe into the F.I.R registered against her for allegedly cheating and causing financial loss to the State exchequer.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar should not have promised what he knew he was unable to deliver Another such promise was that all garbage along the roads would be cleared within three months. Mr. Manohar Parrikar has completed two months in office and the removal of the garbage is yet to commence.

PARRIKAR RESPONSIBILE FOR ALINA'S FIASCO.

CHIEF MINISTER PARRIKAR RESPONISBLE FOR THE ALINA CABINET INDUCTION FIASCO

By Aires Rodrigues

As Manohar Parrikar completes two months in office his attempt to induct Mrs. Alina Saldanha, widow of the late Mathany Saldanha, into the cabinet is one of his many flawed moves. I objected to Alina’s induction as the induction of the party candidate as Minister was s a gross violation of the Election Commission’s model code of conduct currently in force for the by election to the Cortalim Constituency. Grief, Sorrow, Sympathy and Emotions cannot overtake the rule of law and the principles of propriety in governance.

The manner and haste in which Alina was sought to be made a Minister besides being highly suspicious, was politically inappropriate. This view has now also been upheld by the Election Commission of India. While the issue was being considered by the ECI, the rank defiance and sheer arrogance by the Chief Minister was outrageous. Showing scant respect to the Model Code of Conduct and the constitutional status of ECI was unbecoming of a Chief Minister.

Mr. Manohar Parrikar does not seem to have learnt from his past mistakes. A balance of legality and morality in public life leaves no room for political high handedness or despotism. He should realize that whether he likes it not we are a democracy and not an autocracy. As he now intends to pen a book on his political journey, we can expect one of the chapters to be on his futile attempt to make Alina Saldanha a Cabinet Minister.

Personally I have nothing against Alina. The voters of Cortalim will decide who their next MLA will be. When I took on the misdeeds of the earlier Congress government I was called a BJP agent. Now standing up against the misdeeds of this BJP regime I am accused of being fielded by the Congress. Such criticism does not bother me but only emboldens my resolve to carry on the Big Fight. That has been my civic duty for over three decades and the battle against corruption and nepotism must go on regardless of the government in power. Someone has to be a Watchman. The historian and moralist, Lord Acton, in a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton in 1887 had said: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.". Is Manohar Parrikar listening?

Quality Sound System for Tiatrs in Kuwait

Kuwait: Konkani Tiatr in Kuwait has changed immensely over the years -- from a mere form of entertainment to an event to be cherished. It has broken barriers of gender and overcome problems of stage-setting, lights, sound, etc.

Today, advanced stage lighting, sound, etc, has enhanced stage performance. In terms of direction and acting, tiatr has improved, although, it still has a long way to go, to match with Marathi and Hindi dramas.

Everything about a drama in Kuwait is fabulous -- air-conditioned halls, comfortable chairs, etc, etc. Perhaps the only complain people have is about the sound system.

Everyone in Kuwait knows Goa’s great musician par excellence based in Kuwait – Maestro Shahu. He is simply fantastic and second to none! But he should be in sync with the sound guys who monitor and control the ‘happenings’ with their sophisticated, hi-fi amps and mixers.

A high-decibel sound can cause karkar-kirkir (noise) and give throbbing headaches to the audience.

Most of the guys who provide sound for dramas are professionals, but they are more familiar with DJ music than dramas. They fail to understand that Konkani dramas – especially the songs, unlike English rap, have meaningful words and are more important than the music.

In most dramas in Kuwait, people are left to ‘grab’ the words over a ‘deafening’ sound. Distinguished guests sitting in the front rows will be lucky if they have understood a word of the tiatr by the time they leave the hall.

The sub-standard ‘kissing microphones’ used are failures too as most artistes are ‘mic-shy’ and tend to stand a kilometre away from the nearest 'kiss' or are not very conscious about the system in the 'heat' of their act. One artiste who always ensured he was heard well was Jose Rod. The much admired star rocked the hall every time he took to the stage and kept the crowd captivated with his voice reverberating - either acting or singing. Tiatr lovers do hope to see Jose Rod, the pride of Kuwait Goans, back again on stage -- soon. Well, nobody could beat popular William de Curtorim and his powerful 'political' voice, he could sideline all the noise; while Marcus Vaz could probably sing even without a mike!

Popular persona John Furtado (above) who will be in-charge of the sound for ‘Ghonvddho’ is an expert in his own right. He expected to provide high-sensitive, quality sound. Well, he has a point to prove the audience on May 11 when the Konkani Tiatr 'Ghonvdho' (Mason) is staged at the Kuwait Medical Association Auditorium, Jabriya (near the Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital).

Presented by Kuwait’s famed Lopes Brothers, the drama is written and directed by Nazareth Felix Rodrigues, popularly known in tiatr circles as Nazy Rod.
