NO TO CHRISTIANS BUT YES TO CHRISTIAN FEASTS.

NO TO CHRISTIANS BUT YES TO CHRISTIAN FEASTS.
On Monday 27th April I attended the feast of Milagre Saibinn at Mapusa Church. After attending the Mass, I went around the annual “Feri” where I saw innumerable people mainly the Catholic devotees purchasing different items from the Stalls. With the exception of "Cheuris Pao" almost all the Stalls were put up and owned by non-Catholics many of them anti-Christians and some of them non-Goans, the latest descendents from "Ghantti" land having no respect for Christians and no reverence for Christian relics and their values. Even in the que one could see only the Ghantti beggars without uttering a single word of Konkani prayer like “Baba tumcher bessaum poddonk re, bai tumchem borem zaum go, Milagre Sabinnin tumcher besavam ghalunk”. Their only motto is to make money. This money they collect from Goan Catholics devotees. It was very hurting to know that the very people who hate Christians are promoting their businesses only thru Christian patronage and our Church leaders are not giving any guidance for us to challenge this trend and take control of our affairs.

We have so many jobless Catholics, Church leaders in every village for the Church feasts must encourage these jobless Christians to put up their own stalls for the Church “Feri” instead of using these boys and girls for running the Church “Kermes”. Even if monetary assistance is required, Church leaders should come forward to assist and if necessary even business guidance like entrepreneurial skills should be thought to our Christians. Churches are making lot of money thru organising Kermes, thru Sunday Collections and by organising Shows and Tiatros. During Milagre Saibinn Fest, one Tiatro of Prince Jacob was scheduled for which very hefty tickets were sold namely first class for Rs. 500/- followed by Rs. 300/- Rs. 200/- etc. This is big money Church is making and such money extortion in the name of Church was imposed on Catholic devotees only. It is not Mapusa Church alone, all the Churches in Goa must come out with some ideas to involve Goan Christians into business first especially where Church is involved. Goa Church must stop begging and instead start financing and guiding our people for entrepreneurial skills. Goa Church is not a beggar, it has got good wealth to support the faithfuls and their projects.

Currently I have noticed that due to degoanisation process in Goa and denying Catholics and other Christians of their privileges and rights, the importance of Christians is getting down and thru this process the influence of Catholic Church controlled from Panjim Altinho is waning. I noticed during the recent Lokh Sabab Election the influence of non-Goan Ghanttis and non-Christians was shining like Bethlehem Star. Our problem lies in the weak and inefficient leadership we get from our Church. Our Church and priests and even nuns are become over money conscious. At moment it looks that Priesthood is become a money making profession and not a vocation. In order to grab money, many of our priests are sprinting in all directions like our politicians. Some years back for the greed of money the then Pe. Vigar of our village Church sold inside premises of our Church to Amitab Bacchan to make his film, of course shamelessly. Our Church leaders and priests are least interested in the protection of our rights and privileges. It is they who sold rampantly Confraria Lands to non-Goans, non-Christians and the enemies of Christians. In time to come, we will survive as a strong community only if our Church and priests give us strong support, strong leadership and suitable guidance otherwise we will get drowned in the big ocean of Non-Goans continuously pouring in Goa and Non-Christians who will utilise each and every opportunity available in Goa for them. The downfall of Christians in general and Catholics in particular in Goa will be the making of our Church leadership. We don’t want the Church preaching empty sermons and giving nonsensical instructions. Those days are over. The days of opposition and challenges from our enemies are looming over our heads. Our Church leadership must rise and rise immediately.

G'BYE GOA: THE MHARS by Valmiki Faleiro.

G’BYE GOA: THE MHARS.
By Valmiki Faleiro.

None of what is believed about the first human settlements in Goa is based on scientificevidence. Most of what we know is rooted in lore or based on conjecture. For whateverits worth, let’s recount what we know of how Goa got populated – with her tribals and, millennia later, her Indo-Aryans, in all 41 kinship groups.

The theory that human settlements began in Goa from about 10,000 BC does not stand the test of reason. Available vegetation wouldn’t sustain life in the early Neolithic period. Human settlements would more credibly have begun circa 4,000 BC or 3,000 BC. Joao de Barros (1496-1590), arguably the greatest chronicler of the Portuguese in India, even if he never stepped here, wrote the first three ‘Decadas,’ covering the period from1498, when Vasco da Gama arrived, to 1526. In the second Decada (Vol. I, Chapter 1),Barros says Goa’s first settlers were “poor people who came from beyond the land ofCanara.” These Proto-Australoids, who inhabited South India and Sri Lanka, arebelieved to have come from coastal Karnataka/north Kerala. They were the Mhars.

However, Arthur Crawford in ‘Legends of the Konkan’ (1909) cites an ancient account of a Chitpavan Brahmin, that ‘Dhangars’ first discovered the beautiful Konkan. Hearing this, Mhars crossed the Ghats and settled on the Konkan coast. (The earliest known Dhangar settlements in Karnataka date 2,900 BC. Assuming the belief to be true that Dhangars arrived in Goa about 1,000 years after the Mhars, Goa’s earliest human settlements could not be before 4,000 BC.) Latter day tribes that migrated to Goa called the originals ‘Maraung’ (“elder family” in theMundari language) before the word got corrupted to Mhar. Even the last to arrive, the Indo-Aryans, acknowledged Mhars – through various religious and social customs – as the original owners of Goa. The head Mhar was called ‘Vatandar Mhar.’ Mhars, today a scheduled tribe, sacrificed buffaloes to propitiate spirits of their ancestors and their demon deities. They ate the flesh, even bones, hence regarded ‘untouchable’ –just as cobblers, who worked on the hides of cattle. So much that Mhars were not allowed to even cross the shadow of the ‘higher’ castes that followed them into Goa! If a latter-day Brahmin even inadvertently stepped on the shadow of a Mhar – clad infootwear made from the hide of a cow – he would return home to undergo a purificationritual.

It’s a different matter that Brahmins ate beef in the Vedic age and guests were called ‘Goghna’ (“slayer of the calf”) … for whom the calf was cooked into a meal. Mhars worshipped the devil-god ‘Maru.’ Maru lived on hilltops and treetops. Hence the small shrines around the base of trees, where Maru was placated with offerings of miniature clay horses. Such trees were never cut down. Over time, Maru came to be known as Ketrapal (Sheshtrapal.) Mhars also worshipped the wild ‘Kel’ tree (the deityKelbai.) Mhars lived by hunting and gathering fruits and edible vegetation and roots. Mhars were believed to possess powers of exorcism. Even though latter-day Gawda,Kumbhar, Gurav and Bhagats were known for sorcery, none compared to a Mhar –when it came to chasing away evil eye, spirits, and even cobras! These powers activatedSundays and Wednesdays, when the rituals were performed. Even converts to Christianity were believed to have retained these powers.

Christian Mhars were summoned to Hindu households to exorcise evil eye, much as the“corrupted” one would participate in temple rituals of honour and receive the first share of the crop as his Hindu ancestors did. Mhars worked as undertakers, preparing funeral pyres and conducting cremations(some converted ones worked as church sextons), and later acquired skills at bamboo weaving. A ‘Mhar-vaddo’ welcomed entry to most Goan villages (“Ganv asa thuim marodd asa”), to protect it from evil spirits and invaders! Though pioneers, Goan Mhars are at the bottom-most rung of the social pecking order.Every successive tribe that settled in Goa was stronger, and subjugated the earlier settlers.Another reason why Mhars were at the lowest slot of the societal hierarchy. YES FOR MONEY BUT NO FOR VOTES - Response.

Hi Veronica,
Dev boro diss tumkam.

Article is well written, appreciate very much. Well said, UGDP is worth nothing but trouble creators, name is sacred but Leaders are worst than back stabbers. You said appropriately, it is really like a launch pad rather than a party. No one remained faithful to that party after they got elected. The Leaders themselves are having ulterior motives, they only cheat Christians and bluff them and Christian like simpletons believing them but only to be deceived later.

Mind you Matanhy did not join BJP but supported them and rubbed his innocent shoulders with them only out of hatred to the Congress culture and dishonesty. Matany would make a great leader and keep his name immaculate had he never supported BJP but there was perhaps no alternative to him then to show his disgust on Congress treachery. And I think BJP will gain a lot out of this fight in the south.

It is good Congress did not give ticket to Valanka. Churchill looks like selling his daughter to Politics, may be I am mistaken! But I have never heard her name in any social causes of Goa, have not even heard of any support, she has not been even the least social nor popular, Just like we go to Posro and buy a toy Churchill was trying his utmost with even blackmailing to get a (toy like a) ticket for his daughter. What is so sweet in politics he found to induct his non-aligned daughter in this dirty “Rebod” politics?.

Those who enter in politics are doing lot of grass root level work and with popularity they win the hearts of the People who out of love and trust chose one amongst them to lead them, She should create first such opportunities win the hearts of the people and rise up, and not because her father wants her in politics to swallow the sweets from Public treasury undeservingly and dishonestly. Churchill should not impose his daughter on public, no matter how good she is. It her who should earn the public liking to be a leader and to get elected. Churchill should stop force creating empires for his family. It is left up to public to choose any one on their merits and not because some one is force imposing on them someone unheard in the political & social arena.

BTW, is she practicing the law? You must have read so many young Kuwaiti lawyers fighting their cases and publishing very proudly of their achievements.

Take care.
Best regards.

Beginning of a Nuclear War from Pakistan.

Sir Allama Muhammed Iqbal, one of the greatest poets and thinkers of the last century, once said that “ there would be no peace in the world if there was no peace in Afghanistan” - a deeply entrenched tribal society known for sacrificing precious lives to preserve their rights and dignity.

Those in and around Afghanistan understand the extremely complex nature of this society which even the British Empire failed to conquer as shown by their numerous graveyards. Instead they entered into a peace treaty with Afghans.

Predictions

Almost a year after Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, when Mujahidin leader Gulbuddin Hikmatyar told that Afghans would wipe out Soviet Union from the world map, no one believed him. True to his predictions, ten years later, Afghans got Soviet Empire to bleed to death. Thus, mighty Russia also learnt a lesson.

Nevertheless, in the case of United States, neither neo con warmongers of disgraced President George Bush nor the newly elected US President Barak Hussein Obama seems to have learnt any lesson despite US-NATO military set backs in the face of fierce resistance from Taliban who now control 93 percent of Afghanistan.

President Obama’s Afghan-Pakistan strategy to fight the so called war on terrorism that includes more troops, new legislation, improved troop training and added civilian expertise, seems to be same as that of the doomed policy of his predecessor George Bush who falsely accused Al Qaeda of masterminding the attacks on the World Trade Centre, invaded Afghanistan within 27 days, toppled the Taliban regime and installed a puppet regime under Ahmed Karzai only to set up military bases all over the country.

Global War on Terror

Almost all independent studies into the WTC events have exonerated Muslims, including Al Qaeda, stating that they suspect the demolition as an inside job. The Al Qaeda threat was magnified to suit the US designs.

Yet years later today President Obama blaming Al Qaeda of killing of around 3000 people in the WTC indicates that, though the phrase “Global War on Terror” was removed, the attempt at selling the Al Qaeda myth continues and the US designs on the region remain unchanged.

Lesson from history

Afghans, Pashtuns, live on either side of the Afghan-Pakistan border regions. They share the same religious, economic, social values, customs and traditions in their vast, rugged, harsh and hostile mountainous areas.

What happens to people in one side inevitably has its impact on the people on other side of the border. It is almost impossible to differentiate or isolate them. Governed by tribal laws and traditions, Pakistani laws do not apply in some of these areas.

This is the reason why Pakistan had to accommodate Afghan refugees in Pakistan’s border areas with great caution. Therefore, when the Americans send drones inside Pakistan to kill what they describe as suspected Taliban and Al Qaeda members certainly Pakistan is placed in a very difficult situation.

In their traditional dress, they all look alike and how could the American and NATO forces differentiate between civilians and terrorists?

Pakistanis are confused as they find it difficult to understand the logic behind various bomb attacks. For example, Pakistan has very cordial relations with Sri Lanka for decades and the two countries are bound by many common interests. Under such circumstances, why would Pakistanis bomb Sri Lanka cricket team to the detriment of the two countries? The question is who is behind these mysterious bombings which many Pakistanis suspect as the work of foreign elements.

Plight of Muslims

There are 22 Arab countries, with a population of around 325 million, billions of dollar worth of modern weapons and immense wealth; yet when Israel started slaughtering the starving Palestinians, no one lifted a finger. Instead, the so-called Arab heavy weights facilitated the genocide. The Arab front has collapsed despite fruitless and ridiculous summits.

Some consider President Obama’s new year friendly overtures to Iran as a move to rope in Iran to facilitate his Afghan-Pakistan strategy in the same way President George Bush Sr bribed, blackmailed and silenced Arab rulers when he evicted Iraqi troops from Kuwait and his son George Bush Jr blackmailed the world when he said “you are either with us or with the terrorists” to invade Afghanistan in the immediate aftermath of September 11 events.

Perhaps the policy of regime change and installing puppet regimes and establish military bases continue unabated under President Obama too while the pro-Jewish western media continues to sell its lies to brainwash and prepare the people all over.

The neo cons openly claim that they are not worried about the death, devastation and misery they cause to innocent people in implementing their designs as shown in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and Somalia.

Pakistan Press stated under the title “Pakistan: The Final Game Begins” that stage has been set for a false flag attack on America soon that will allow USA to start military operations inside Pakistan, partition the country and get its Nuclear capabilities neutralized! Another 9/11 is inevitable for Zionist Pentagon to win the final game and impose New World Order. Indications are that more Afghan, Pakistan and even innocent American blood is likely to flow to the benefit of weapons industry, corporate conglomerates, Jewish lobbies and Hindu racism that threatens to destabilize India more than any other perceived threat.

But may be the US are not realizing that this time they are going to ignite the first and last Nuclear World War.

YES TO MONEY BUT NO TO VOTES.

Though only 3 days are remaining for the coming Lokh Sabah Election yet the atmosphere looks very dull, normal election fewer has not gained momentum and campaigning is also feeble. In Salcette there is little more noise because both heavyweights Sardinha and Mathanay are making desperate attempts to woo the voters towards them. Mathanay looks to capture many of the votes destined for Sardinha but unlikely to create much impact on voters. His party UGDP is not a reliable party because its candidates themselves are not reliable for UGDP. Once elected on UGDP symbol, its candidates shows “KONKO” to party and its manifesto as Mathanay did by joining BJP. Sardinah looks gaining some advantage because he is the Congress candidate yet his road towards final destination will be full of hurdles. Between the two, Mathanay is liked by the people at large yet Sardinha is likely to gain advantage because Christian voters have no other choice but to take shelter in fake secular Congress. People in Goa in general and Christians in particular vote for Congress not because they love Congress but because there is no other choice for them and taking advantage of this dilemma, Congress is taking Christian votes for granted. Otherwise Congress is the big disaster for Christians in Goa. Not only of Goa but all the ills of INDIA are the making of Congress. Recently Lalu Prasad said Babri Majid demolition was also the responsibility of Congress. Congress premier Narashinva Rao was at that time sleeping in Delhi while all the Kar Sevaks were coming with their Pickaxes from all over India including from Goa to demolish Babri Masjid. And yet Congress said it is Secular. The other candidates will be just passengers to fill in the blanks and not to create any major dent though BJP will give stiff competition for Sardinha. May be due to the splits of votes between Sardinha and Mathanay, BJP by fluke get this seat.

In the North BJP is likely to retain its seat while Congress candidate backed by others will have to sweat a lot to garner sufficient voters to gain victory. Jitendra Deshprabhu is not a heavyweight and because it is so he was earlier at Goa level rejected by the voters. Communist Party candidate Christopher Fonseca is making some noise on Loudspeakers. He was one of the trustees of Novem Goem Pratishtan and its general secretary. In this NGP move he let Konkani lovers down because he proved to be a weak administrator. He is good to lead workers as trade union leader. Konkani lovers dislike him and I think no Konkani lover will vote for him for his mishandling of NGP along with other trustees. He joined the election as communist candidate just to fill in the blank. I don’t think there is any need for communists now. Even in Russia, communism is come to an end. In India it still exists because its leaders want it like that for their own survival in public life.

According to my information, at the last hour Money Power will play a major role followed by “soro” power and also Sex power. In Goa though people call themselves advanced yet politically they are very backward especially the Christians because our leadership at Altinho Panjim is weak. Top political parties and their candidates it looks will pour money at the eleventh hour to purchase votes from ’hungry for money’ voters. During the Opinion Poll campaign at Calangute, Dr. Jack De Sequeira once said “If MGP offers you money, accept it but while voting do not vote for Flower Symbol but vote for Two Leaves”. Further Sequeira said it is not a sin to accept money but those who give money as bribe is a sinner. Nobody can buy your votes and nobody can sell his votes. It is not a commodity. To get voting rights our fathers and forefathers gave their blood and life and suffered so much in life. Let us not make it cheap and a purchasable commodity. If anybody gives money let us accept it gracefully but while voting we shall use our own discretion and vote according to our conscience.

Within 3 days Goan voters will elect two Goans to be the Maharajas of Goa. Once elected they will act like Maharajas with all the amenities and facilities of Mahrarajas.. So much so, with these facilities they will think they are in heaven and with this feeling they will forget all others as they have done in the past. In view of this, is it right to elect such people? If not, what is the solution to avoid this Maharaja type of status for our candidates? Is there any choice in our hands? Are we heading in right direction? MLA’s, MP’s and Montris is a new class of Maharajas in India and everybody is joining in this race. And unfortunately it is become hereditary starting from father to son and from there to down the level. Something has to be devised at All India level to change this system. But meantime let us accept the fact that whoever get elected will never create any impact of themselves and of Goa in parliament because none of the contestants are intellectual giants. Thye are all meant to think and discuss domestic issues where their personal interest are centred. BJP men will surely be faithful to communalism of Modi brand, Mathany still not committing that he will not join BJP segment if elected and fom “DHIRIO” candidate what best you can expect for Goa and Goans?

But meantime, let us vote judiciously and when money is offered, let us accept it saying “YES TO MONEY BUT NO TO VOTES”.

IPL v/s EPL and the ‘Goan’ Franchise

-by gasper crasto, Kuwait

“Which league do you watch?... Support?” asked a colleague from Delhi, “The Indian Premier League (IPL) or the English Premier League (EPL)?”

I said, “Comparing IPL cricket and the English Premier League football with it’s chanting, scarf-waving, ever-hopeful fans is akin to comparing oranges to apples. Both are entirely different in their own means - EPL happens whole year around on the weekends while IPL is just a six week affair. The money involved in the EPL is extremely humongous when compared to that in IPL...”

“But the recent buzz for IPL shows clearly the huge popularity that Indian Premier League is enjoying...”

“English Premier League already boasts of a huge number of Indian die-hard fans." I answered, "It would take a monumental effort for any franchise in Indian Premier League to create a similar group of die-hard supporters and fan base. Football as a game may not be as popular as cricket in India, but it is slowly gaining popularity…”

“Popularity? Among the new generation???.. ” He laughed sarcastically.

“With the increased globalization and increased number of Indians traveling abroad, the reach of English Premier League is going to be an upward graph. And with the Indians' inborn attraction of anything Western, it would seem 'cool' for many young people to follow and to proclaim to be a fan of Manchester United rather than Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkotta Knightriders.”

“But..." he retorted, "with the extreme popularity that cricket enjoys in India, Indian Premier League is sure to remain as the most popular league, atleast for a few more years.”

“Well, for the dominant position to continue, the players and management have to provide unadulterated ‘fun’ for people watching it - on television and on the ground.”

“So you watch the game just for the ‘fun’ of it, hmm?.. like most others..? Ha.. ha.. Delhi Daredevils – that’s my team. You know, I was born in Delhi… By the way, aap ki kaunsi team hai?..”

“I’ve been supporting Mumbai Indians right from the beginning although I have no connections with the Mumbai world.”

“Mumbai Indians? Yaak!!! It’s not owned by any of your favorite heroines? Why Mumbai? You could atleast support Rajasthan Royals and be proud of Swapnil Asnodkar, your only 'Goanese' playing in the IPL..."

"Well, you may very well argue that when football teams like Churchill Brothers can have die-hard fanatical supporters appreciating the quality and standard of their game when they become Champions of Indian Football League even when they field non-Goan starting elevens (barring the foreigners), why not be loyal to a team having Tendulkar and Jayasurya – players who have given happiness to millions just by their presence? Anyway, I have decided to be a fan and supporter of our nearest neighbor till we have a team like ‘Susegad Goans’ with a franchise of it’s own...”

GOODBYE GOA.

GOODBYE GOA.
By Valmiki Faleiro.

Nothing in the universe is static. Everything is dynamic. Change is inevitable. That isMother Nature’s basic law. All manner of things – including humans – change or evolve, usually for the better, at times for the worse. I write this with a heavy heart, not with an objective mind. For two reasons: one major, the other incidental.

First the major. All good things, they say, must come to an end. The Goa we once knew – the land, people, music, food, culture, the East-West blended fabric – as most of us would know, is changing. For the worse. The Goa we knew is dying. Let’s delve into this sad the next few weeks. The “incidental” reason. This ‘Goodbye Goa’ series marks the end of *All-‘n’-Sundry.* Even if I have no idea of how good (or bad or indifferent) this Sunday column has been! There sure was reader feedback, albeit mostly from non-resident Goans who read via e-mail or internet mail lists.

I have written every Sunday for the last three and half years, without a break. Goa has many talented writers and I hope one of them will take over. The real reason I need to stop this weekly distraction, though, is to help me concentrate on some other serious writing work I always dreamt of doing. (I had started this column with some pieces on Margao; I shall end it with a few more on my hometown, at the end of this series.) * * * * *

For the fundamentally changing profile of Goa, everyone blames migrants. Rich migrants from India’s metros, and the bulk, poor migrants, in search of better economic prospects. From all over the country. From Punjab to the five North-Eastern sisters, from Kashmiris and Lamanis at every Goan beach to Malayalees and Tamils, with whom, incidentally,we have a historic link, dating back to the 16th century. Are migrants really to blame? They admittedly are the most visible manifestation of the metamorphosis that Goa is undergoing, but I do not subscribe to the view that migrantsare the only – or even the chief – cause. It lies elsewhere, as we shall see later in this series. Besides, Goa, down history, has been a land of migrants. It would be worth the while to begin here.

To review that interesting kaleidoscope of a story of how Goa got populated. From between 4,000 BC or 3,000 BC, upto 1961. I guess it’s more or less accepted that the so-called ‘Goan Identity’ is as it was on the dawn of December 19, 1961. Beginning the next Sunday, let us briefly run through the story of in-migrations to Goa. From the Proto-Australoid or Austro-Asiatic tribals from south and central India, to the Indo-Aryans from north or north-eastern India, to a sprinkling of our countrymen from across the Ghats, till the morn of self-rule. For sequence and chronology, I shall rely on Anant R. Sinai Dhume’s ‘The Cultural History of Goa’ (1986), now reprinted. But take it with a pinch of salt. Dhume himself, at Pg.64, added a caveat:

“Now, let me describe the tribes … possibly on a chronological scale, warning that the chronology is tentative up to the advent of the first wave of Aryans in Goa.” * * * * *

AN APPEAL: I appeal to you to exercise your franchise on April 23. Voting is a sacred right. Many around the world have been imprisoned, tortured and killed, fighting for that privilege. I know you may be disgusted with the local scene, but please keep the national perspective in mind. If deciding who to vote is difficult, remember it simply boils down to just one question:who would you like to steer India’s destiny over the next five years? People like Dr.Manmohan Singh, PC Chidambaram, etc., or people like Lal Krishna Advani, Narendra Modi, etc.? There, you have your candidate! In North Goa, you have one for the former(Congress/NCP), one for the latter (BJP). In South Goa, you’re luckier. You have one for the former, and a choice of two for the latter! * * * * *

SUPREME INFALLIBILITY: The Supreme Court of India is the flavour of the times in Goa. Mull over this maxim: “The Supreme Court is not supreme because it infallible; it is infallible because it is supreme.” (ENDS.) The Valmiki FALEIRO's Weekly column.

OUR CHURCH ROLE IN THE COMING ELECTION.

“My sons will not be my sons, they will be bastards if they don’t take the revenge of those who perpetrate this crime on me. Who are my sons? My sons are Shanawaz and Murtaza (his real sons) and all the sons of Pakistan”, said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto the hanged Premier of Pakistan in his masterpiece IF i AM ASSASSINATED, he wrote from his prison cell before he was sent to the gallows by General Zia’s Government. Similarly, from my home place in Goa, I write now that “Christians will not be Christians; they will be Christ killer traitor Jews if they do not help defeat the anti-Christian BJP candidates in the coming election. BJP’s only agenda is to liquidate Christians and harass Muslims, both these communities must join together to give a heavy defeat to BJP candidates. Being more numerically than Muslims, Christians in general and Catholics in particular in Goa have to play a major role in defeating both the BJP candidates in Goa. Christians were persecuted in many parts of India by the BJP and these persecutions have been sheltered by the BJP ruled states. When BJP candidates come at our door steps for electioneering, Christian voters should ask the BJP candidates their stand on these persecutions and also make them first apologise for the sins their partymen committed against Christians in other parts of India. Goa BJP unit and its candidates must be made responsible for the ills their colleagues committed against peace loving Christians elsewhere in India. The Goa BJP unit under Parrikar regime has done lot of injustice for Goan Chrsitians, namely producing of anti-Christian VCD, removal of Good Friday Holiday etc, and for this Goan Christian voters must never forgive Parrikar and his BJP. This is the right moment for Christians in Goa to show their true Chriastian colours, if they are real Christians and not basterdised Christians. If we forgive them, they will come again with more fury against us.

While election is approaching fast, what will be the role of Catholic Church in Goa? It has not come out with challenging and daring statement so far. There were no guidelines from the Church to Catholic voters in this direction. It looks Goan Church leadership may from behind the curtain support BJP as it was done by Rahul Gonsalves earlier, as reported. Our Church leadership cannot remain as silent spectator at this crucial hour saying "Church role is not to involve in politics". River Princess issue is a big political issue in Candolim and it was strongly and openly campaigned by the Candolim Church. Our Church in Goa should come out strongly against BJP and tell the faithfuls in the Churches and Chapels openly not to vote for BJP. The faithfuls are eagerly awaiting the instructions from the Church. The safety of Christianity and Christians lies in the defeat of BJP candidates. As I informed once to Rahul Gonsalves from Kuwait, 'we in Goa are victimised by communal political parties only because we are Christians'. In view of this our leadership from Altinho, Panjim must guide us in right direction and not to keep silence at this critical time. By keeping silence we will not gain anything, hence we must be vocal now. We don’t have as our friends in BJP.

In Phillippines with the open and strong backing of the Church the Government of Ferdinand Marcus was demolished. Cardinal Sin of Manila told the Catholic voters from the Pulpit to throw out Ferdinand Marcus Government and voters there obliged and did the needful. Even the then Pope backed Cardinal Sin. To help protect the rights of the persecuted and minorities, Vatican even supported the terrorist activities in Palestine under the leadership of Archobishop Capucchi. We in Goa were persecuted minority community by BJP and if we allow BJP candidates to win in Goa they will increase their strength in Parliament thereby giving more power to BJP at the Centre to harass Christians. We by all means must help demolition of BJP candidates in Goa to secure our community. Hence, the Church leadership in Goa must come out with open statement against BJP. At this hour Church leadership in Goa should not feel shy and afraid. We need a strong and daring leadership from our Church otherwise Christianity and Christians in Goa will suffer a lot and our Church leadership alone will be responsible for this.

In the past especially immediately following the annexing of Goa by Bharat, Dayananda Bandodkar and his lobby dubbed Goan Christians as anti-Indian and Pro-Portugues. Christians were treated as second class citizens and were denied some of the normal privileges. At that hour our Church leadership was into the hands of weak leader Mong. Francisco Rebello who did not even know that Dayananda Bandodkar was the Chief Minister of Goa. Instead he told me once “this president of Goa is a ‘POKO’”. During the regime of Bandodkar, Catholics in Goa were living in fear while our Church leadership did nothing to give a booster for Catholics in Goa. Our Church leadership and priests were acting like cowards. They should have issued heavy statements in our support by citing innumerable examples of how Goan Christians have fought for the freedom of Goa and India. Much before Nehrus and Gandhis our Christian Goans raised their voices for the liberation not only of Goa but of the entire India. Dr. Francis Luis Gomes and Abade de Faria were the first Indians to raise the voice of Indians in foreign soil against colonisers. Men like Bandodkar were traitors. They slipped themselves into the pants of Portugues Governador like slaves during the Portuguese regime to get personal benefits for them and when time came they called Goan Christians as anti-Indians. The same song is now sung by BJP. We have to oppose them and our Church must now direct and guide the faithfuls in right direction and that too immediately. If we win in our ideology it will be because of our Chuch guidance and if lose it will be only because of the silence of our Church. Hence, Neri Ferrao and his advisers must wake up and wake up now and now only.

KICK TRAITOR SARDINHA OUT.

That BJP is a communal party is known to everyone. That its anti-Christian feelings are known to everyone is also a fact. That the safety and future of Christians in Goa and elsewhere in India is in danger if BJP is brought to power is absolutely correct. Yet the Christian Francisco Sardinha the official Congress candidate for the coming Parliamentary election, with BJP support formed his own Government in Goa some time back. And thru this honeymoon with BJP, Sardinha helped BJP later on to form first pure communal Government in Goa under communal Parrikar.

Sardinha has done great injustice to secular fabrics of Goans by helping BJP to bring its government into existence thru remote control. One of the worst politicians in Goa is Sardinha. His track record shows he is one of the corrupt and selfish politicians. From the point of Marks Scandal of his Subrinha till his association with BJP his record was bad. By taking law into his own hands he made mockery of the mandate given to him by his voters. For helping BJP to gain power in Goa he has committed an anti-Christian act, excommunicating him from Catholicsm would be less a punishment for such a sin. It was not an ordinary sin but a sacrilegious act for which not only he will face the hell but even his whole “khandan” who enjoyed his wealth amassed thru cheating the trust of his voters who elected him to be under the umbrella of Congress and not to flirt like a “Pamprel” with BJP.

Some of the politicians are such greedy for power that to get it and to retain it by all means they will even dole their wives and daughters to their masters. And, by the way, aren’t they doing this? Who said No?

Because of Sardinha BJP came to power in Goa and because of it, BJP fortified its position in Goa. If this has happened in anywhere else Sardinha would have been stripped of his clothes and his marbles would have been displayed openly by his own voters from Curtorim constituency. By forming his illegal Government Sardinha has destroyed the secular fabricks of Goa. By joining hands with Parrikar’s BJP in forming his own Government Sardinha made mockery of his voters who elected him to serve Congress Party and not to sleep nude with BJP. The BJP is a curse on us because its main motto is do eradicate Christians and other minorities from Goa and India. They will never give peace for Christians and other minorities. They are anti-Indian and anti-Secular. In fact Election Commission should have banned this party from contesting election. And for such a party Sardinha aligning means a disgrace on Goa, on secular Goans and on Christians. Besides this, for a so called secular Congress Party of Italian Sonia Gandhi to give Sardinha an access to Congress means prostituting the credibility of Congress Party. By disowning Congress Party and forming his own Government with the support of BJP, Sardinha the rascal politician of Goa has not only rascalised politics in Goa but also committed a crime on Goa and Goans. Such a criminal should have been hanged publicly but instead Congress Party under Sonia Gandhi shamelessly rehabilitated Sardinha thereby proving to everyone that the current Congress Party is a party of prostitutes, of rogues and defectors who will never remain erect but always bend to serve their own personal agenda.

In view of this is it right to re-elect Sardinha in the coming election? South Goa Congress voters must think hundred times before voting for Sardinha. He will surely repeat the act of defection in Parliament for the highest bidder. Salcetkars in the past have done yeomen services for the cause of Goa and Goans. Now it is going to be their turn to teach Sardinha a very good lesson by kicking him out in the coming election. As it is, by electing him no good purpose will be served. His agenda is nothing good doing for Goa except promoting “Dhirio”. A rubbish agenda of a rubbish candidate of rubbish Congress Party. When he comes for electioneering, people must demand a public apology from him for his earlier misdeeds he committed by aligning with BJP. People especially his voters and close supporters instead of acting like his ‘chamchas’ must get a firm undertaking from him that he will remain erect and not act like a “cheddi” from Curtorim by sleeping with any altu-faltu for the sake of power, if he is elected. However, I doubt he will remain faithful to his Congress Party and in the light of it, Salcetkar in particular and South Goan voters in general must kick him out before he kicks out his voters mandate.

This is the only opportunity for the upright people to teach Sardinha and of his likes a very good lesson in the coming election. The MP’s in India are become Maharajas with all the Maharaja amenities to lead a luxurious life at taxpayers cost. Once they are in Parliament they fail to identify themselves with the common persons thinking that they are come from feudal background. The money and bribes they get as MP’s are too big. Hence, they should be taught a very good lesson and Sardinha should be put first on the hit list. I have seen in the past Salcetkar rising to the occasion and saving Goa and Goans from disaster. Sardinha and his Congress Party are not to be trusted any more. The mess that we face in Goa now is the creation of all the bastardised Congressmen who never remained faithful to Congress ideals. They are all Aya Rams and Gaya Rams. They want Congress only to grab power. They are all illegitimate sons and daughters of their mothers and only the illegitimate voters got them elected. The real Goans, real sons and real daughters of their real fathers will never elect defectors and traitors like Sardinha.

Veronica,
If you reason without any proof its not hitting the point. We haven't forgotten that Sardina was Chief Minister with the support of BJP. Ravi, Digu n others were one time mgp and BJP members but only Mathany Saldanha is labeled as BJP, infact he never joined BJP but remained in their govt out of principle of not switching party. To me nobody in Congress has any love for any party accept for getting into the ruling party they will gladly screw each other over it, we are all know the pimps n pros' sticking with the Congress just to be on the ruling ticket. I would say get rid of congress first. they have ruined goa since liberation.. infact minus the communalist tag, the BJP has done what congress failed to do for years ! But at this point salcete ppl worry more about their bread n butter than the dhiro priority that Sardina is ignorantly pushing up. Ask him on Special Status or MOPA he doesnt believe its worth taking up, well good news is we don't believe he is going to get our votes eithier. If Congress win it will only be migrant votebanks n the chor lobby that supported them.Mathany on the other hand deserves a chance because he is not a true sleazy politician by nature but a professor by profession with some principles, credibility n a good agenda and that is what we consider important to Goa ! I don't believe ppl shuld support Congress just coz there are no alternatives the other parties haven't been given the opportunity because all Congress does is talk shit down South into pro secularism and waging a war on the communal BJP politics.

VERONICAPLEASE CHECK YOUR FACTS. YOU ARE WRONG, WRONG, WRONG ATLEAST ON THIS ONE AND HOPEFULLY YOU ARE WRONG ON ALL YOUR NEGATIVE VIEWS ON MATHANY !!!

While working with Parrikar, Matanhy came across a chief minister who not only listened to him, but also understood his point and acted swiftly on them and that is why he grew to admire the way Parrikar was administering the State. That did not mean that he accepted anything and everything that Parrikar did. Whenever required he protested and dissented and even pulled up Parrikar for his misdeeds. One such instance is the cancellation of public holidays which also included St Francis Xavier’s feast day and Good Friday. Matanhy was the first one to protest against this and there is press evidence for the same. With respect to the CD, Matanhy along with his party members met Mr. Parrikar and demanded the withdrawal of the CD and Mr. Parrikar said it was already decided to do so.

RE: THROW ANTI-CHRISTIAN MATHANAY SALDANHA OUT.

Dear Veronica,Your concerns for the Christian community as a minority are appreciated but let me voice my sentiments as well: In response to your post THROW ANTI-CHRISTIAN MATHANAY SALDANHA OUT

South Goa has indeed done a great deal of service to Goa and Goans in the past and at present it is indeed South Goa that has destroyed Goa beyond redemption. Our present Politicians have betrayed Goa and Goans in totality. I totally agree with you, that BJP is one evil that we can do without in Goa for the sake of peace, tranquility and the brotherhood that we share with our non-Catholic brethren over the centuries. Yes, there is no doubt that Mathany did a blunder once, in supporting the BJP and has realized his folly, shouldn’t we forgive him ? There are others too who have had a roll in the hay with the BJP, and are very much a part of the most corrupt Congress at present, infact I have lost count of how many times some of them have changed side, if we shouldn’t trust Mathany, then why should we trust the rest of the jokers in the pack ? What guarantee is there that they will not support or join the BJP, like they had done before ?

Sardinha was one of the main guys that ditched the Congress and supported the BJP and then went on to become the CM with the support the BJP. And then when things did not go right he joined the Congress again, how can we trust such a guy ? We shouldn’t judge people in two different ways. I think Sardinha is a worse lambddo than Mathany ?

In these last five years what has Sardinha done for Goa and Goans ? Infact we have his illegitimate babies floating in the Mandovi which he had conceived during his tenure as CM, Mathany on the other hand has a much better track record than Sardinha and most definitely not corrupt like Sardinha.

Mathany may have lost to Mawvin because of his BJP connection, why did Sardinha loose his seat at the Assembly elections ? If Mathany has treated us like mundkars , how have the corrupt Congress treated us ? Just because of Mathany’s previous connection with the BJP, he should not be labeled anti Christian, if all BJP supporters in the past were to be labeled than more than half of the Congress MLA’s should be anti Christians. So lets give Mathany a chance to redeem himself.

During the Orissa carnage, what was Sardinha’s reaction ? Did he even whimper or mourn ? What is the point in electing people like Sardinha if they don’t voice the sentiments of the people, none of the Catholics raised their voices in Parliament against the Bihar carnage. So please stop the false propaganda that Mathany is anti Christian. Lets all try to work for the betterment of Goa and Goans by rejecting the Communal BJP and the corrupt Congress and vote for Mathany !

THROW ANTI-CHRISTIAN MATHANAY SALDANHA OUT.

Very shortly Goa will elect two MP’s to represent Goa in the Lokh Saba, Delhi. During the last so many years since Goa was annexed by Bharat we sent number of MP’s to Parliament but Goans in general were not satisfied with their performances. All eyes now are focussed on South Goa candidates because the prominent South Goa candidates in the past have shown their greed for their personal benefits and not for what they promised. THOUGH South Goa in the past have done great service for the cause of Goa. It saved Goa from the claws of merger of Goa with Maharastra by giving a resounding victory for Two Leaves in the Opinion Poll. If it was not for the voters of South Goa, we today would be under the umbrella of Maharastra with Marathi as our official language and eating and spitting red Panpotti as our new culture.

During the language agitation South Goans have done great justice for Konkani cause by fully supporting Konkani language agitation openly and directly. For any good cause of Goa and Goans, South Goans immediately take a stand in support of Goa but in the recent past South Goan voters elected candidates who did disservice for Goa and Goan causes. The noted Goan Aya Ram and Gaya Ram is from South Goa only. In the forthcoming election, Mathanay Saldanah will be contesting on behalf of UGDP. Can South Goan voters trust Mathanay any more when in the past as a MLA in Goa Legislative Assembly he betrayed the trust of Cortalim constituency by rejecting his own party and joining communal BJP? Can any sensible voter elect him now knowing his selfish background? Can Goa lover South Goans cast their votes in favour of Mathanay in the coming election when he disgracefully embraced a communal party BJP that sucked Christians by cutting the Good Friday Holiday of Christians? When BJP under the leadership of Parrikar was harassing Christians in Goa, Mathanary Saldanha as a member of Parrikar clan was watching Christian harassment silently. He then had no guts to question Parrikar and stop Parrikar from harassing Christians.

In view of this, all the Christian voters of Salcette if they are real Christians and also if they are real sons and daughters of Christian fathers, they will boycott Mathanay Saldanha. Mathanay Saldanha thinks as a “Bhattkar” of Cansaulim he can treat his voters as his “Mundkars”. South Goa Christian voters must teach this BJP “Lembddo” a very good lesson in the coming election by not voting him. He is no more a humble and upright man he once was. He is a corrupt man now for this reason he robbed the trust of his voters and joined anti-Christian communal BJP party earlier and this robbery proved to be his Waterloo in the last Assembly election against Mawvin Godinho.

It is a turn now for South Goan Christian voters to help Goa and Goans by defeating anti- Christian candidates like Mathanay Saldanha. This is the time for South Goan voters especially the Christians to save Goa from communal forces like Mathanay Saldanha. In this connection Gulf Goans in general and Kuwait Goans in particular will have to advise their relatives in Goa to boycott communal candidates and those candidates like Mathanay Saldanha who helps communal forces. Minorities in India and Christians in Goa will never enjoy peace unless BJP and BJP supporters like Mathanay Saldanha are defeated in the coming election. By not voting BJP candidates and candidates who support BJP, Christian voters will do service for Christianity.
Christianity in Goa will lose its strenght if Mathanay Saldanha is elected. Hence, Christian voters from Salcette beware of Mathanay Saldanha. THROW HIM OUT FROM THE COMING ELECTION by voting him out.

ROBBY'S NIGHT By Valmiki Faleiro

ROBBY'S NIGHT
By Valmiki Faleiro

This Easter day, may I share with you an old internet story. I have abridged the original, to size it to this column’s space… My name’s Mildred Hondorf. I’m a music teacher from Des Moines, Iowa-USA. I've been teaching piano for over 30 years. Over time, I’ve found that children have many levels of musical ability. I've never had the pleasure of a child prodigy, though I have taught some talented students. I've also had my share of "musically challenged" pupils.

One such student was Robby. He was 11, when his mother, a single mom, dropped him off for his first piano lesson. I prefer students begin at an earlier age (especially boys!), which I explained to Robby. But Robby said that it had always been his mother's dream to hear him play the piano. That made me take him as a student. I later realised it was a hopeless endeavor. Much as Robby tried, he lacked the sense of tone and basic rhythm. But, he dutifully reviewed his scales and some elementary pieces that I require all my students to learn. He struggled over the months. I cringed. At the end of each lesson he'd say, "My mom's going to hear me play someday." It seemed hopeless. He just didn’t have any inborn ability.

I knew his mother from a distance. She dropped Robby and picked him up in heraged car. She smiled and waved, but never stepped in. Then one day Robby stopped coming. I thought it was because of his lack of ability. Was I glad he stopped – he was a bad advertisement for my teaching! Some time later, I mailed all students a flyer on an upcoming recital. To my surprise, Robby asked if he could be in the recital. I told him the recital was for current pupils and he didn’t qualify. He said his mother had been sick and unable to take him to piano lessons, but he was still practicing. "Miss Hondorf, please, I must play!" I don't know what led me to allow him to play in the recital. But I put Robby last in the program, before I went on stage to thank everybody and play a finishing piece. I thought any damage Robby would do could be salvaged through my ’curtain closer.’

The night for the recital came. The school gym was packed with parents and relatives. The recital went off without a hitch. The students had been practicing and it showed. Then came Robby’s turn. His clothes were wrinkled and his hair looked like he'd run an eggbeater through it. "Why didn't his mother groom him for this special night," I thought. Robby pulled out the piano bench and he began.

I was surprised when he announced that he had chosen Mozart's Concerto #21 in C Major. I wasn’t prepared for what I heard next. His fingers were light on the keys, they even danced nimbly on the ivories. He went from pianissimo to fortissimo. From allegro to virtuoso. His suspended chords that Mozart demands were magnificent! Never had I heard Mozart played so well by people his age.

After six and a half minutes, he ended in a grand crescendo and everyone was on their feet in wild applause. Overcome and in tears, I ran up on stage and put my arms around Robby in joy. "I've never heard you play like that Robby ! How'd you do it?" Unaware the microphone was on, Robby explained: "Well, Miss Hondorf, remember I told you my mom was sick? She actually had cancer and passed away this morning. And, well … she was born deaf so tonight was the first time she’d ever hear me play. I wanted to make it special. " There wasn't a dry eye that evening, as the Social Services people led Robby to fo ster care. Robby was killed in the senseless bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in April-1995. (ENDS.)

NEXT ELECTION AND KUWAIT GOANS.

Very shortly Goan voters in Goa will go to the polls to elect their two representatives to the Parliament. Will Goan voters do justice to their conscience and elect good candidates? Who will guide the Goan voters to exercise their franchise rightly and judiciously to elect good candidates? By the way, are there any good candidates contesting the election? Or will the voters be subjected to bribes and vote buying by the candidates and their parties?

What will be the role of Gulf Goans in general and Kuwait Goans in particular as far as this election is concerned? Can we just remain as silent spectators when the election process is going on in our Goa? I am talking of Goa because it is of our concern. When Kuwait was invaded by Iraq on 2nd August 1990 and when we were all stranded at the mercy of Saddam Hussein in Kuwait, we had two Goan Members in Parliament. What role did they play in and out of Parliament immediately following the invasion of Kuwait to help alleviate our misery? Nothing, they were both dumb and deaf to our sufferings. However, one MP from Kerala to press Government of India to act wisely and immediately on this issue to alleviate the sufferings of Indians in general and Malyalis in particular pushed Indian Government to be active. But when his efforts failed to bear any fruits because Indian Government was under the influence of Hamlet being indecisive – to be or not to be – he at the entrance of Parliament House organized a hunger strike to draw the attention of other MP’s to support him. While he was doing Hunger Strike, both our MP’s were sleeping because they were not fit to sit in the Parliament, they were meant to sit in the “Dukon” with “Feni”. One of the MGP stalwarts said it seems that “why we should involve in this matter since overwhelming majority of Kuwait Goans are Christians. Let them go to hell, our MGP is not for the promotion and protection of Christians”. In view of this, our friends and relatives and well wishers in Goa while voting must take this point into consideration very seriously.

Kuwait Goans always remained on forefront for Goa and Goan causes. What we did for Goa and Goan causes no other expatriate Goans did. Our love for Goa and Goan causes was supreme. Even during the election time many of our Goans in the past especially went down to Goa and participated in voting. While others from Kuwait advised their relatives to vote for the right candidates. To do this and to advise in such a manner those days Kuwait Goans were in a better position being more upright and true to their Goan attributes. But are the current Kuwait Goans and especially our much advertised leaders, much marketed stalwarts in a position to give good advice to our people in Goa? I doubt! The reasons are as explained below with examples:

We have 3 current NRI awardees in Kuwait. They were given these awards not exactly on the basis of their merits but because NRI Commissioner was a bias and ignorant. These all three awardees were undeserving awardees. By receiving these awards they have done injustice to themselves and to the principle of awards though Eduardo Faleiro gave them these awards as Tips to the waiters. Can such unjust people preach justice to Goans and tell Goan voters to cast their votes justly? And even if they advise what they will advise? They will have to advise to vote for Eduardo Faleiro’s Congress Party only to reciprocate the “chamchageri” Faleiro did for them by doling these awards, of course undeservingly. And is it correct to vote for Congress the party that created Maharajas out of beggars and crooks?

Goans in Kuwait are splitted into factions. One faction comes under Football fraternity. When I say football it should be understood rightly that is, our football activities are not recognised by the Kuwaiti authorities and besides us nobody in Kuwait cares for our football. It is more or less like the football we play in the fields in Goa, as it was called once “Xetantlo Khell”. Though it is like a “Xetantlo Khell” yet it gives lot of cheap publicity for cheap people involved in this football especially for the promoters. The person heading our football activities is a pure “Bebdo” and all those who got him there were equally “Bebdes” because Bebdes only can elect a “Bebdo”. Good people will elect good leaders. And during the invasion time, this Bebdo was not supporting Kuwait cause, on the contrary he was anti 'Kuwait movement' in Goa. And supporting such people will it not be tantamount to being anti-Kuwait from where we earn our bread? In view of this, will this faction guide Goans in right direction and tell them to vote for the right and good candidates in the forthcoming election in Goa? I have no faith in these people that they will act with wisdom. Their horizon is only football because it gives them good amusement and cheap prominence which is what they want because back at home they were neglected and rejected in society. For such people especially intellectually bankrupt, this place is good to create a dent in life and in society too. A Ladru-Pedru type of person back at home can easily become Lasarus and Peter in Kuwait.

The other faction of Goans is surrounded around Welfare Society. The person ruling this Society is known to be involved in Sex and Society’s money scandals. His principle of “Narvenkarism” is very simple of telling the young girls, “I do your job today, you do my job tonight”. This man has taken hostage the entire funds of the Society in collaboration with other two rogue colleagues of his, this amount runs into crores of Indian Rupees. This huge amount belongs to the Society and as such it should go to the account of Society for the cause of community. I think, finally it will face the fate of “Bombaiche Kudd” which were robbed by the “bastardized Goans” because only such Goans can do such cheatings. Real Goans fathered by their real fathers will never cheat any organization. This man does not care for anything. It looks he tells everybody, “tumi boslet mojea Sen…” . When this man has such a worst character how is it that he was elected by the members to head their Society? It is a mystery and only mysterious people elect such rogues and rapists. Why did they elect him? Because all those who elected him and associate with him are equally bad, equally worst and equality guilty. They are all partners in the same type of crimes though they may harp saying they are clean and decent people. Decent people will never support indecent person. these indecent supporters may if time comes, even supply their wives and daughters to their indecent leader, this is their quality which they have shown. By the way, will such people advise and guide our Goan voters to act rightly? Surely not because bad people cannot give good advise. And they have no right either to advise Goan voters to act wisely when they themselves acted unwisely. This is the quality of our people in Kuwait and yet they have no shame.

The other segment of Goans in Kuwait is enveloped under Tiatrist circle. This circle was formed not to promote Tiatro and support all Tiatrists but to prevent one Tiatrist from acting in Tiatros in Kuwait and even in Goa. The foundation of this circle was laid down on the principle “To Aslear Aum Nachona” by their leader. When this tiatrist leader put this proposal forward, all the other Rostad members of this circle in chorus said “Yes, we support this proposal”. This proved how unjust these Tiatrists are. When they are so unjust, can they tell the Goan voters to be just in their voting and to elect the just candidates? Impossible!!. Rostad people will never give good advise. Rostad people will tell their relatives and other people in Goa to elect only Rostad candidates.

Yet another faction of Goans in Kuwait making some noise is that which is associated in the Church Circle. Church circle is a very good venue for cheapest people to obtain cheapest prominence. In the name of religious work they get too much importance in life otherwise they deserve no concession, if you test the character of many of them. This is the most dangerous section of our community because by wearing the masks of holy persons in holy place, some of these Goans are acting like “Devils” and they are devils only having worst qualities to create sinful acts. I realized their true colours during the invasion of Kuwait when most of them failed in their just Christian duties in supporting Kuwait’s cause though some of them were fooling by saying “we are praying for Kuwait”.They are in this circle only to get personal, financial, sexual and other devilish benefits. Normally worst of people are involved in the Church affairs because most of the Church leaders are corrupt who are corrupting everything around them including our religion and community.

GOA SWAYS ....UNDER SAVIOURS.

GOA SWAYS … UNDER SAVIOURS!
By Valmiki Faleiro.

Every Goan politico swears by ‘saving’ Goa. Let’s visit an instance of how that’s done. What I write may sound like fiction, but believe me, it is not. This is common knowledge in the circles of a particular Goa government department, its officers and contractors. Among whom I count many acquaintances. I will name neither the department nor the politician.

Bolting horses do not leave their hides behind. In the dicey domain of defamation law, I’ll tread on the side of caution. This particular politician swore to save Goa. To do that, soon after being elected, he did a rapid-fire flip and a flop. For Rs.30 crores, in hard cash. Twenty crores for withdrawing support to the government and, in about a month, ten crores for not just re-supporting the same government but bedding a milking cash cow, as minister. This particular department annually spends hundreds of crores for the greater glory of Goa.

Of every rupee spent, between 10-15 percent goes directly into the minister’s kitty. Take a Rs.10 crore project. The system, on paper, works on sealed tender basis. Any number of eligible contractors vie to bag the contract. In practice, the serious one musttrudge Margao’s hillock, Monte. Here is the government Rest House and some official bungalows – all now figuratively private property of the minister’s daughter and her escort. The contractor must meet her,but only after surrendering all bugging devices, including mobile camera-phones. If the contractor is the only bidder for the work, a deal is cracked at 10% (in our instance,One Crore Rupees) to be paid to the minister. In case of more than one bidding aspirant,as often is the case, the ministerial daughter turns auctioneer of her father’s 'share'(which could rise to 15-20% of the work value.) Cash is not passed at Monte, once a lovers’ rendezvous, and eons before, the route of demons that tormented Margao. The concerned Executive Engineer must collect the ministerial loot.

And we complain of bureaucratic corruption! Mercifully, I have encountered upright officials in several government departments. Exceptions, to be sure. But in this minister’s department, every official must cough up one percent of project money they handle, esp. around festivals, from Diwali to Carnival. For saving Goa. That’s not all. Highly inflated tenders are now the norm. Crores are accounted as spent on projects difficult to verify, when the actual cost doesn’t cross a few lakh rupees. Venial, though. Crores are siphoned out of the public treasury on projects executed and paid for ages ago. Internal audit is dead, because ‘Goa’ must survive! We’ve created another political monster. Like Taleigao in Tiswadi, this one is set to sway future electoral fortunes in the historically key taluka of Goa: Salcete. With his few hundred crores...

With a series like ‘Goa sways,’ you’d imagine I could go on almost forever, on Goa’smyriad ills, from killer mosquitoes to mines. But let’s move on, from what Goa is to where she is headed, after coming Sunday. As customary, I will share with you an old butinspirational internet story for Easter.

P.S.: Writes an engineer friend about last week’s column … “If water contamination wasas bad, half of Margao would be outside Hospicio’s overcrowded morgue. Of concern is:the Selaulim reservoir, in a mining area, gets manganese in its water. Too much of it canlead to kidney failure. Opt for your well water either boiled or through a reverse osmosisfilter, so you continue writing in Herald dated 1st April 2056.”

P.P.S.: A final farewell to friend, guide and motivator, my former college lecturer DiogoManuel Silveira. Hailing from Goltim-Divar, DMS was brilliant at academics and was laterEditor at Mumbai’s ‘Free Press Journal’ group. Fit and sprightly, given not to mundanevices like booze and smoke, DMS, who would turn 60 this month, suffered a heart attack– his first and, alas, last – around 6am, March 31, in Mumbai. He had launched me into writing, with a co-signed piece, published in ‘The Navhind Times’ in 1975.Eternal peace! (ENDS.)

POLITICAL DYNASTIES By Jasper.

Bab Veronica,

Sometime back I read your article on the Political Dynasties of our Bharat Mata. As far as I am aware the 1st Political Dynastic family was of Nehru who the world knows from the father to the daughter to the grand children to great grand children. Politics was their religion those times. It is now changed to Politics of corruption, robbery, goondagiri and hatred. Late Indira Gandhi learned the ABC of politics by accompanying her father on tours and meetings so I say she had the inbuilt instinct. She ruled our Country for years together ( good & bad ) as I can say it's like Low and High tide where water is concerned. It does the turnaround every 6 hrs but our politics goes on turnaround for 5 years. It does get shorter when the greed hits politician head which leads to HORSE TRADING with Money power. We need to understand that no one is perfect in the world and if everyone was, no one will ever remember God. God created us but he has the remote control so people should not forget that God’s power is mightier.

When Emergency was declared in India it was like a blessing for a layman and it was hell for the corrupt and mafias. Everything was functioning well but there was a dark side of the rule where the late Sanjay Gandhi, the father of VARUN GANDHI misused the trust his mother had reposed in him. He was not a politician who had politics in his blood BUT he was a Show man / playboy with Gandhi name and money. He did reach a point that he thought he was above the Law of the country and he started to misuse the power. With all the misusing the worst he did was VASECTOMY of innocent people. Imagine how many thousands of people he did it to, imagine how many tears came out, surely river Ganga would have overflown if it was collected. The saying “ SKY IS THE LIMIT “ comes into force now, God watched everything and he could not take it more so what comes next is GLIDER HELICOPTER CRASH and an instant death. Some people said it was his mother who got rid of him though. Where is the power gone??? It went to ASHES above a Pyre of 6 feet high!! Now it is his Son who has created a bigger controversy in political front.

I am sure like minded people will pass his comments / remarks as childish and a publicity gimmick. Only uneducated people like the ones shown on TV participating in the Riots will resort to Violence and it was obvious in the TV footages. I also heard his mother Menaka Gandhi giving statement to TV saying that one Police Officer called Parvez injured 25 people with gunshots. My question, is our Police force equipped with AK47 to injure 25 people? Well, educated people will not digest the statement but uneducated will and our politicians will keep those people away from getting educated so that they will be in their clutches. So my question is how long Indian politics will be run by Political Family Dynasties?? Varun keep in mind that there is more powerfull God there above you and I m sure he is just linient with you cause you have not seen the Fathers love so try to limit your hate agendas to your self or your end might come like TSUNAMI without warning. To win people love you need to show love , hatred will get hatred in double. I hope that you are Barred for contesting the election and that will be great sign to others if that happens.

Let me bring some more on the subject where our GOA is concerned. Latest what I heard is our Goa is 90% literate but our people are still acing as Illiterates. Our Goan Political Dynasty families are Late Dayanand Bandodkar family and late Dr. Jack Sinqueira family. Bandodkar family is OVER as of now, so too of Dr. Jack Sinqueira family. The surviving now are Rane family, ( father and Son ) and Alemao family ( brothers ). Forgive me if I have missed anyone else as I am aware that these two families are more powerful than the rest. With regards to the Lokh Sabha seat which was offered to Rane he declined the offer as he is a seasoned politician and he very well knows that once he is out of Goa's local politics it will be his end. Smart Guy, experience counts here. Nehru once offered Erasmo Sequeira's Lokh Sabah Seat to Dr. Jack Sequeira but as a sirud politician Dr. Jack turned down Nehru's offer knowing it will end his political career in Goa.

Mr Churchill Alemao wanted his Lawyer daughter to be given the Congress Ticket so what happened here ? He lost the game. Why did he lose it and what will be his next move is what everyone is waiting for. Churchill it's time to sit down and think where your planning went wrong. Politic is not a Churchill Bros. football team fielding allmost all non-Goans with money paid to them thru extortions from Hoteliers. May be Congress high command thought that with you two in Goan politics and the 3rd one from family in Delhi it will be too much for them to handle so might as well deny ticket and I m sure that is what has happened. So what is your next move now, Get Digambar Kamat Government DOWN???????. It is time to show the people what you can do and how you can make the Govt dance at your tune and we are anxiously waiting for that as Govt rule for Goa is better than elected Govt rule and lot of our work is done in Govt office which does not happen through elected Govt. It is my view I may be wrong but my views are my views.

Churchill Bab wants his advocate daughter Valanka in the Parliament. He is harping on her Law Degree but can he harp any of her achievement in fighting court cases? By the way, did she anytime appear in the court to fight cases? What is her great achievement in court cases and in the society? Is it enough to get a ticket to be the daughter of Churchill Alemao? Our Churchill Bab unnecessarily and simply spoiled the immaculate and fair image of his daughter by making a fool of herself thru this election tamasha. She is such a nice and decent young girl but involving in dirty political game she has lost all her warmth, charm, dignity of her feminine character and prestige of her Law Degree. Valanka has to walk a long road to achieve something in life and then only public will support her candidature. Now those who support her are only hired people by Churchill Bab. People should oppose candidates imposed on them. I pity the young but not so beautiful Valanka for being in the midst of unnecessary controversy where Churchill Bab is familiar but Valanka is not. Valanka as an educated and matured dignified girl must stop henceforth becoming a tool into the hands of her father Churchill Bab who has history of soiling Goan ploitics.

So question here is do we need POLITICAL FAMILIES DYNASTIES to Rule us in the 21st century ?. Its high time we sit back to chalk out a bright future for our INDIA.

Jai Hind, Jai Goa !

DISORDER IN PAKISTAN.

There is a saying in Konkani language“KELEM TUKAM ANI ZALEM MAKAM”. This has what exactly happened to Pakistan. 30.03.09 Monday’s attack on Police Academy at Lahore was a replica of what has happened in Mumbai 26/11. Who initiated it? Pakistanis from Pakistan and the same way the same Pakistanis in Pakistan initiated Lahore Police Academy attack. These Islamist terrorists or Jihadis as they are called are all out to destroy peace not only in India, in Pakistan and in the region but also all around the globe. These Islamists are not true Muslims, they are fake Muslims and because they are fake, they commit such heinous crimes in the name of Islam. In fact Islam does not preach such actions. What these Islamic fundamentalists preach is anti-Islamic views. Such militant actions are warmly welcomed by anti-Muslim societies like Jewish society to brand Islam as a religion of terrorists. The biggest enemy of Islam is Judaism that does lot of harm to Muslim in the Middle East. Jews try to dub Islam as a bad religion that terrorizes world and hence the terrorism initiated by Islamists in the name of their belief is a big booster for Jews for their campaign against Islam. The Islamist terrorists must know this very well. If they got guts then they must challenge the brute might of Israeli Jews that doing so much of injustice to Islam in the Middle East. Creating terror in Pakistan and in India by these Pakistani Muslim terrorists is a job of cowards and brute Muslims who can only trouble the weak.

Three days before Lahore Police Academy attack Pakistani Muslim terrorists killed innocent people in their own Islamic Mosque. What does it mean? Does this brand of Islam permit them to commit such terrorist acts even in the house of God? It is a shame on their belief. Mosque is a religious place for prayers and not for terrorists to kill innocent worshippers and that too their own Muslim brothers? Recently I noticed Muslim fanatic terrorists carry out their attacks even in the Mosques to propagate their religious belief. Some years back some Muslim fundamentalists captured one of the Holy Mosques in Saudi Arabia and after some days holding it as hostage the terrorists surrendered to the authority but only when all other avenues were exhausted. Attacking religious places is a criminal act which should be punished with maximum punishment.

In Pakistan what is happening now is beyond my imagination. It looks the country is heading for the disaster and the democratically elected civilian Government under Gillani and Zardari are powerless. These two leaders are not meant to rule a mighty atomic power Pakistan. Both these leaders look like rulers of Municipality. Pakistani citizens must ponder over their choice of these two leaders. Otherwise, there is every possibility for the country again to go into the hands of Military man. What is happening in Pakistan now is the making of Pakistani authorities only. What they sowed earlier they are now reaping now. All these Islamic terrorist groups are promoted and supported either directly or thru remote control by the Pakistani authorities to punish India and Indians. ISI is the brainchild of all these groups as per available information. All these terrorist groups got blessings from ISI which is more interested to inflict damages on India and Indians. But now these same terrorist groups are teaching a very good lesson to Pakistan and Pakistanis only. For this reason I used the saying in Konkani “Kelem tukam ani zalem makam”.

What is happening in Pakistan now is not an end but just the beginning. Up now no news of any arrest of any of the gunmen who tried to kill Sri Lankan Cricketers. These terrorists must be laughing at the inefficiency of Pakistani intelligence and security system there. If they cannot make any real arrest then they have no right to be in their business and profession. Pakistan’s only ambition is to liquidate India and with this revenge in mind they will try to inflict maximum harm to India and Indians but thru Natural Law, they will suffer more from their own terrorism. Every action has got reaction. Those who fight with sword will die with sword only. Those who try to do harm for others will themselves face the harm because the natural law will ultimately work supremely. The natural law of “Compensation” works and it works right in front of our eyes. Pakistan is going to be a failed state. It cannot administer and there is no rule of law there. There are parallel governments running in Pakistan and Islamabad has recognized these governments by surrendering its legal rights to the parallel governments.

In Pakistan we see in some people only “Dadageri” in the name of their religion. And what is the religion of the fake Islamists? Only to kill innocent people? These terrorists and their societies could be cured of their illness only thru Evangelisation and thru Christianisation which forbid retaliatory measure to get justice. The central idea of Christianity is LOVE and that of Islam is JUSTICE. One must fight for justice but not to kill innocent people and to put society into total inconvenience. Mahatmah Gandhi and Nelson Mandela would have never acquired success in their mission if they had to use challenging and revengeful methods. Even the Palestinians would have got what they are fighting for if they had not to apply the retaliatory methods against Israel. What one can get thru LOVE one would never get thru tit-for-tat methods. “Eye for an Eye and Tooth for Tooth” doctrine will never solve many of our problems. Eye for an Eye and Tooth for Tooth is the doctrine of ancient king Hamurabi of ancient Mesopotamia. This doctrine now has no much relevance. The doctrine of LOVE and love even they enemy should be the correct methods to solve our existing problems.

Christianity tells to use peaceful methods to settle our differences. Can we implement this method to bring peace into the harsh doctrine used by the Islamist terrorists in the name of their Islam? It is not only in Pakistan but anywhere in the world where harshness rules only Christian methods is the cure. And to follow Christian ways of creating peace in our harsh societies one need not be necessarily a Christian only. Mahatma Gandhi by being a hard core Hindu still followed so nicely Christian principles and so beautifully implemented these principles in his life time much better than the real Christian. And finally by applying peaceful methods of Christianity he gained total success in his mission. Islamic terrorist leader Baitulla Mehsud by shamelessly claiming responsibility over the attack on Police Academy in Lahore takes pleasure in what crime he has committed. He even vows to carry on with more of such attacks even in USA. By doing this he and his gangs and all such people are doing nothing good but soiling the otherwise good image of great religion Islam. Muslims all around the world must rise in unison to stop such criminals acts organized by Muslim terrorists in the name of their religion.
