The Goa government should exercise absolute restraint on wasteful and unnecessary expenditure. As an austerity measure pointless expenditure on foundation laying and inaugural functions should be avoided. It is an eye sore watching MLA’s and Ministers launching culverts and hot mixing of roads. They are elected to legislate and not to perform at road shows. The trend of laying foundation stones even before the project is finalized and tendered is very despicable.
On April 23rd,, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is set to inaugurate the new Central library. Is this formal function necessary? The library has already been in operation for almost a year so what is the Chief Minister going to inaugurate. The library was scheduled to be earlier inaugurated by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
Let projects be completed and put to public use instead of wasting time on pompous functions at the cost of the State exchequer. A few years ago a non-functional health centre was inaugurated at Ribandar on the occasion of the then MLA’s birthday. Thousands were spent on the inaugural function of a health centre which did not even have a thermometer and no water supply. A sorry State of affairs which should never be repeated.
