FULFILL MATHANHY'S WISH BY SCRAPPING MOPA AIRPORT.

“We will carry forward the legacy of the late Matanhy Saldanha by implementing his decisions” said his closest and nearest including his sorrowful wife and Mr. Parrikar, the chief Minister of Goa. All those people who talked of fulfilling Mathanhy’s wishes must imperatively fulfil his greatest wish of cancelling the construction of Mopa Airport. Unless this is done the mission of Mathanhy Saldanha will remain unfulfilled. Those who spoke of fulfilling the unfinished task of Mathanhy Saldanha, if they are real sons and real daughters of their real fathers then only they will work for the scrapping of Mopa Airport which was the important wish of Mathanhy Saldanha..

Mathanhy Saldanha was not an ordinary person, he was a visionary visualising the future of Goa correctly. He was not an ordinary politician but a great statesman who was thinking not of future election but of future generation. Such people do not bother of winning the next election but winning of high ideological election for the good of next generation. For this reason visualising the ill effects of Mopa Airport he in advance only gave hisverdict against construction of this Mopa Airport.

Once while in discussion with me on the ill effect of 5 Star Hotel culture in the coastal areas of Goa, he asked me the negative effects of Taj Hotel at Sinquerimg, Bardez. This Hotel was the first 5 Star Hotel in Goa commissioned in 1973. Because of this Hotel the non Goan population has increased in Candolim leading into rise in cost price of the land there making it impossible for the locals to purchase land in that area for their own dwellings. Once this hotel came into being, other major hotels also started mushrooming in Candolim thereby tempting the locals to sell their land, properties and houses to the rich non locals coming mainly from Delhi and other North India and thereby upsetting the demographic structure of the locals who are falling into minority and becoming weak.

Millionaires like Vijay Maliya purchased not only property there but along with properties the houses too of the locals thereby driving the locals out of their ancestral places. In Candolim now you see more outsiders than the locals. The benefits of this hotel industry were grabbed by the non-locals more than the locals. When Taj started functioning all the top posts went for the non local outsiders and the ordinary posts were given as Lollipops to the few locals thereby allowing non-Goans to have upper hand there.

At the time of construction of Birla Factory at Zuari Nagar in Goa, Erasmos Sequeira opposed this huge project telling Dayananda Bandodkar instead to go for mass employment creating industries for the locals like factories to manufacture Cycles and Motorcycles where locals will get better chances of employment. But Bandodkar was adamant because he was bribed with a brand new yellowish Buick Car by the Birla to approve this project. Erasmos Sequeira told Bandodkar that in this Birla factory to work there is no appropriate and sufficient Goan manpower leading outsiders to swamp Goa and thus increase the non local population in Goa. What has happened there now? The prophetic words of Sequeira came to reality.

Mathanhy Saldanha was not a fool. He had great love for Goa and its people for this reason he opposed Mopa Airport. If this project comes into reality, outsiders will swamp surrounding areas of Mopa thus increasing the cost factor of goods and services. Outsiders will come to Goa like Jews in Palestine with Bags full of money and buy the land and properties there thereby changing the demographic structure not only of areas around Mopa but also of Goa as a whole.

We have seen the “Maldisaum” of Konkan Railway flourishing in Goa. Bharat Serkar and top Indian leaders are not interested in protecting the demographic structure of Goa, nor uniqueness of its culture, tradition, folklore and history. With the money power into the hands of non-Goan Indians they can purchase not only our land and properties with any price we quote but they can wholesomely purchase us also. To oppose this, Mathanhy Saldanha is gone. Now who is left to protect us from the invasion of non Goans in an invaded Goa? Only leaders like Florian Lobo can do something because Florian Lobo’s love for Goa is infinite. His campaign in support of Goan causes is excellent. Others must also follow him to strengthen our campaign.

Because of our strong campaign in the last election we demolished the “Choranchem Raj”. Now to demolish Parrikar’s dadageri on Mopa Airport all the like-minded Goans working for the good of Goa must start a very strong campaign.

Let there be more and more noise and demonstrations on the streets of Goa against Mopa Airport. People in Navelim, Calangute, Aldona and other constituencies must demand from their elected representatives support for the scrapping of Mopa Airport. These MLA’s are elected by the people supporting Goan causes and as such they must follow the advices of their voters and not of Parrikar. Parrikar has not elected them and as such they must bow down before their electorate AND NOT BEFORE THE ARROGANCE OF PARRIKAR..

ELECTION OFFICIALS SHOULD NOT BE POLITICALLY CONTROLLED.

By Aires Rodrigues

Unless elections are free and fair they would be an exercise in futility. The election machinery has to be autonomous and free from the political clutches. Election officials should not be at the mercy of being transferred around by the government in power. Currently these officials being under the administrative control of the ruling politicians which leaves room for pliable officers to be posted especially around election time.

Politicians should not be able to manipulate and dictate terms to the officials whose mandate is to ensure free and fair polls. In the recent Alina induction episode we were witness to the unnecessary targeting of the Chief Electoral Officer Mr. S. Kumaraswamy by Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar. Mr. Kumaraswamy was just doing his job and the Chief Minister should not have attempted to trespass into his domain. The very dignified manner in which the Mr. S. Kumaraswamy firmly stood his ground was commendable. It should be an example for all bureaucrats some of whom are ready to bend when they are not supposed to even bow to the illegal and unlawful orders of the government in power.
