VALANKA-ISATION OF GOAN POLITICS.

The last week drama enacted by Churchill Alemao against Congress Party because his daughter Valanka was disqualified from contesting election for the presidency of Goa Youth Congress totally exposed Alemaos selfishness and weakness. Valanka is a nice girl and also pretty looking with nice velvetty long hair but not as pretty as her other two married sisters who are in Kuwait. Valanka is not Benazir Bhutto who accompanied her premier father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to India when he came to sign a peace pact with Indira Ghandi at Simla immediately following the war for the liberation of Bangladesh. The way Churchill and the entire Alemao clan making noise of Valanka’s prowess as a Lawyer and as a Social worker it looks Valanka is the saviour of Goa who alone can save Goa from further disaster which is partly the making of her father. As per the events going on in Goa due to Valanka’s ouster, Churchill Alemao because of his political clout totally VALANKA-ISED Goa and Goan politics. Because of father’s greed for political supremacy poor daughter’s image is getting tarnished. At this young marriageable age she should have been above her father’s politics who is using her as a tool to further his political ambitions.

Valanka as a lawyer is not Jetmalani nor Nani Palkiwala. As a Lawyer she did not fight and won the difficult cases and yet her Law degree is projected by Churchill clan as if she is the Supreme Court Lawyer and only one of her calibre in Goa. Before getting her blossomed Churchill is fading her thereby making the poor young girl lose her confidence and subject her to public criticism. And as a social worker she did not perform something extra ordinary. And by the way, to be a social worker she has to be above suspicion” since allegations are cast on her integrity. One person at the same time cannot be a social worker and a political worker also. A social worker is a social worker, he cannot be a political worker. For this reason Ghandiji once said "India does not need political workers for its development but India needs social worker". Churchill’s strength to shake Goan politics in his favour was shattered when the few powerful long timer and senior workers of Youth Congress made a mockery of Valanka by rejecting her candidacy. Valanka’s heavy defeat Churchill should take it as a wakeup call and stop taking Goans for granted further. Valanka’s humiliation is the strong defeat for Churchill and it is also a sign that people in Goa are ready to revolt against Churchill. Churchill’s arrogance and his “dadagiri” in Goan politics is coming to an end.

While Churchill is pushing his daughter Valanka as if she is an extra ordinary politician and saviour of Goa, his brother Joaquim Alemao is pushing his son Yuri to contest the next election. Yuri Alemao is not Yuri Gagarin the Russian Astronaut who was the first human being to go into outer space in 1960, to receive such an importance. Yuri Alemao is a Pilot which is a very lucrative profession but is politics more lucrative? It is certainly yes, not by fair means but by unfair means, that is, thru looting and robbing the people SHAMELESSLY. Are these two siblings of Alemao clan the only Goans to contest the elections in the constituencies allotted to them by the senior Alemaos? Is there nobody better in those constituencies to contest the election on Congress tickets? And will Congress such a mighty organisation bow its mighty head in front of tiny Alemaos? Time alone will answer this question.

Churchill and Joaquim Alemao both brothers by resigning from their posts showed that they are ready to do anything to get their personal ambitions fulfilled. Both these brothers for any of their decisions and actions are responsible for their constituents who voted them to power. Did they consult their voters and got their approval before submitting their resignations? Or do these both Alemao brothers think the Voters “BOSLET AMCHEA KONKEAR?” Their constituents voted them to power not to fight for their personal and family benefits. Alemaos should know this better. People voted them to work for the the cause of their constituencies and for Goa and NOT for the cause of their family members.

It is a big lesson for the voters from Navelim and Cuncollim to learn from their elected representatives who think that their voters are slaves. If they are not slaves then they will assert their rights to control the moves of their representatives. Churchill made his voters as “GHANTTA BOIL” and in fact the voters from Navelim who elected Churchill Alemao are really “Ghantta Boil” otherwise how they allowed Churchill to defect from his party to Congress after he got elected in the last election? Before the election Churchill depicted Congress as Enemy to defeat Luizinho Faleiro and in the bargain all the voters of Churchill became enemies of Congress and Luizinho. And ultimately what was the result? Churchill joined Congress for his selfish benefits and his voters remained enemies of Luiznho and Congress. In future the voters must hold the “XENNI” of Churchill in their hands because this man is unreliable and selfish. He expects every one including me to accept blindly his every act, good or bad.

I fail to understand how the voters in Navelim who should be proud of their great son and parliamentarian who fought for the cause of justice for the poor Goans in the Portuguese Parliament a century back are tolerating Churchill’s selfish politics!! Now the next election is coming. Before this election in Navelim, Cuncolim and other places the voters must get an undertaking and firm assurance from their candidates that they will not take any decision on their own without consulting them. This code of conduct should be applied and forced vigorously on Churchill because he is the main architect of political prostitution and corruption in Goa. He thinks once elected he can do anything. He got no principle. For his selfish ends he will do anything. To fulfil his political ambition at the time of the formation of PDF Government, he is on record to swear in Hindu tradition on Coconut in the Hindu Temple along with other Hindus against the Christian doctrine and now to fool the Christian voters he is displaying his photo kissing the Holy Bible. Bible kissing is not for show and not to get votes by cheating the voters. Bible is to make us upright and not to corrupt us. Bible is not only to kiss, to read and to listen but Bible is mainly to imbibe. And who can do this? Surely not the corrupt politicians who misuse the Bible to cheat the people. To misuse Bible is not only an ordinary sin but a big sacrilege warranting highest punishment from God. I have seen people misusing Bible have suffered tremendously in life, not only they but even their generations.

Bible is a great book, there is no other book greater than Bible and because it is so, it is kept even in the Moon; because it is so, its circulation and sale is the highest among all the books in this world. Bible is the Living word of God. Let these words not remain as logos in our lives or Bible will be like any other normal book. Let the living words inside the Bible change our lives and let it renew our mind according to Romans:12:2. Bible speaks about who is our God and more over it teaches us how to live according to His standard. Bible is our catalogue given by God the Father to live uncorrupt and peaceful life. Bible teaches us about servant hood and Not “Dadahood” to accept cheap honor and bribes from people. Bible teaches us to be pure in mind and heart and in action. Looting the people, extorting bribes from the people and using violent means against one’s opponent is against the teachings of Bible. Let Bible Kiss not be the Judas Kiss.

WILL THE BENAULIM CONSTTUENCY VOTERS ELECT A DISQUALFIED CANDIDATE VALANKA ALEMAO?

By Nisser Dias.
28th July 2011.

Will the voters of Benaulim constituency elect a disqualified candidate?

Last week the Congress party showed some spine by disqualifying Valanka Alemao for using her father PWD minister Churchill Alemao to garner support for her candidature for the post of president of Goa Youth Congress in a bid to clinch her victory. However she was caught in an act of deceit, trying to entice the voters allegedly through money power, muscle power which is the true influence of her father.

Churchill Alemao has become a veteran in using such methods to win elections. His claims that people vote him to power because they love him and his family, this in my opinion is simply lip service. Since his entry in politics his success or victory was largely due to intimidation or lure. And the same tactics were sought to be used for the very first election that Valanka Alemao was contesting. Though educated, it is surprising that she is not averse to such tactics. For Alemao's it is the victory at any cost that counts. Morals, ethics and values have never been their forte. Thank God, Valanka have been stopped in her tracks of vitiating the election process or otherwise she would have continued the trend for assembly election just like her father and uncle.

All along they have used, misused and abused Goans for their own sake allegedly to amass wealth. And Valanka seems to be showing similar traits. For more than a couple of years now, rumour mill have been screaming aloud that this young lady had taken over the business of being a collection agent of her father. Of course she has been confronted with this aspect by the media, but her reply was 'show me the proof.'

However, the amount of money that is being spent to promote Valanka's candidature for the coming assembly elections in Benaulim constituency is astronomical. Almost every week new banners are being put up with her picture in the constituency for some activity or the other and the common factor is that she is always the chief guest. Where does she get the funding from -- is shrouded in mystery. For PWD minister Churchill Alemao the victory of her daughter Valanka is of utmost importance and he is ready to stoop to any level to achieve that goal.

The government led by Chief minister Digambar Kamat have put up with the threats and tantrums of the PWD minister for far too long. Any decision of the government, wherein Churchill does not stand to benefit, he would blackmail the government with threats to resign or topple the government. In case of Valanka's disqualification, it was the decision of the election commission of Indian Youth Congress election committee, so where is the question of the holding the government responsible and the state to ransom. At the most an appeal could be filed with the appropriate authority. The Congress to prove its worth and its credibility should accept the resignation of both the Alemao brothers not only as ministers but also as primary members. At the same time serious consideration are overdue of their blackmailing tactics. In return Congress party should threaten the Alemao family with Income Tax raids and CBI investigation on the wealth amassed by both the brothers in the last four years. This will clearly indicate that by purchasing votes by doling out Rs. 500 to voters, that these two brothers have made politics their business and have allegedly accumulated wealth disproportionate to their known source of income.

Of course there will be accusation against the party for witch hunting and harassment, but if two persons can hold the state government to ransom what better treatment do they deserve? As it is we have witnessed like never before the gang-rape of Goa and its exchequer in the last five years by the Digambar led coalition government. When I say government it does not only mean its ministers though they have been the biggest beneficaries but also the MLAs. Almost on daily basis a new scam surfaces but the Congress party is doing the ostrich’s act so far.

However as per the latest developments in Delhi, it seems that Churchill and his brother Joaquim have got a reprieve, however the party refused to revoke the disqualification and Valanka had to swallow the humble pie. The Congress party has assured the brothers to seriously consider the candidature of younger Alemaos, however Congress is rarely known to keep its promise and who knows it better then Churchill himself. All in all it was a face saving exercise for the Alemaos. Has justice been done now? If at all Valanka contests the next assembly election be it on any party ticket, she will always remained tagged as disqualified candidate.

But one fact is clear, Churchill and Joaquim stand exposed as they had never tendered their resignation in writing to the chief minister. It was simply because they know that, 'a bird in hand is better than two in a bush'. They simply could not give up the lucrative portfolios thus Valanka was sacrificed on the altar of greed.

It has been reported in the media that Congress party bigwigs praised Valanka for the developmental work she is carrying out in the village of Benaulim. Is it not ironical that a layman has to carry out such works when we have a government in place. The fact of the matter is that she makes her presence felt wherever PWD asphalts roads or premix is being laid. Thus it is the exchequer’s money with which roads are being done. Just because Valanka makes an appearance does not mean she is doing-up roads from her personal kitty. She is only trying to pull wool over those who do not want to understand.

Of course this strategy is not originally hers. The architect of this plan is Calvert Gonsalves - a panch member of Colva and producer of music CD 'Dogui Bodmas'. His tactics are to organize an events and invite among others, those opposed to the candidate and take pictures. Then spread the word in the constituency that the opposing constituents have been convinced and won over and corroborate this with photographs. This approach he had used to get Mickky Pacheco elected. After he crossed swords with Benaulim MLA, Calvert has now jumped on Churchill’s bandwagon for obvious reasons and is now teaching Valanka the ropes of campaining and changing the tide in her favour. Infact Calvert has explained this strategy in his CD wherein he claims to have taught Mickky how to woo local leaders opposing him without spending money. The lyrics are 'Ganvchea leader-ank udar gheunk xikoile'.

After all said and done, no citizen can hold a state or country to ransom. It is unjustified and also not acceptable. Churchill Alemao has been doing it too often. Are we so cheap that we keep on reposing faith in him by casting our franchise in his favour? And today people of Benaulim should don on their thinking cap and decide whether they are going to vote for Valanka Alemao - a disqualified candidate to represent them in the Assembly.

POWER AND VENALITY OVERRULE INTEGRITY AND ETHICS.

Power And Venality Overrule Integrity And Ethics

With the huge amount of money involved in kickbacks and commissions, Indian politics, has been hijacked by a coterie of selfish and self-centered “Natas and Babus” for a long time and are now making it a springboard for their off-springs and other members of their families to launch their venal attack throughout the entire length and breadth of India, including Goa.

The venality of the “netas and Babus” has been exposed through the incessant eruptions of “gaplas and gotalas” in the every form of scam and it’s no surprise that the magnanimity of the swindle has been found to be directly proportional to the stature of the controlling edifice and the prominence of the authorities involved.

Rodents are known to dig their way upwards leaving a big whole at the bottom, in India and more so in Goa, it’s the other way round; venality has been eating its way from the apex to the base and the greed of our politicians has put us in a very precarious position, not knowing when the floor above us will give way and swallow us alive.

With the perennial parasitic tentacles firmly entrenched in Goa politics, the parasites are grooming their shoots, sprouts and even offshoots to carry on their venal legacy to greater heights and the appendages legal or otherwise are all set and eagerly waiting to jump into the quagmire head first without any sense of disquiet like as though they were born for the purpose.

We Goans have been wholly and solely responsible for this unprecedented scale of corruption and deception. What is unexplainable is, even after all this, we Goans still somehow manage to elect the same venal elements and then we thump our chests and call ourselves educated and a literate lot. It’s hogwash !

Every time these self-centered politicians brandish their lackluster crusade, the already disabled Kamat government looks to be gasping for survival and on the verge of a collapse. With no action against the blackmailing politicians by the spineless Congress, the just concluded fiasco, establishes the fact, that venality and power does overrule integrity and ethics in Goan politics.

I only hope and pray that the actions and the inactions of our venal politicians open the eyes of every Goan and so that they truly see these self-centered politicians for what they are and what they stand for and give a fitting answer at the coming elections, if not, all that I can say is, for this our profound act of perfidy, forgive us our trespasses, for we no not what we do.

ON INDIA - UAE CLASH DEBATE.

Eldon has left a new comment on your post "FRANCIS FROM UAE ON VERONICA ON HIS ARTICLE ON IND...":

Looks like this is some kind of personal attack on our goan Coach, Mr. Armando Colaco. Shows typical goan mentality... I don’t concur with all the articles voicing on Goa - kranti except the article of Xavier Furtado which creates logic reading it. Instead we should be proud of a Goan heading the Indian football team. Thus, it is often considered that those who find fault with something should also offer an option for putting it right.

I know are expectations are high but we all got to admit our football history, and call for some constructive criticism in taking it to the next level. No Coaches or players are to be held responsible for it; they are qualified individual giving out everything they have on the field.
We have a long way to go my friends. Let not our passion for the game tarnish the image of the coach and the players.

Happy watching … today..

BOYCOTT DEMPO-BOYCOTT ARMANDO COLACO-BOYCOTT SUBRATA PAL CAMPAIGN IN.

While wishing India all the best for the return match against UAE in India, I demand sacking of Armando colaco as coach/manager of Indian team. Otherwise if he is a real Goan with Goan great characteristics, he himself will voluntarily resign owning full responsibility for the disaster India made against its clash with UAE in UAE.

Last world cup Argentina failed in South Africa and its team manager Maradona had to leave so also Batista after Argentina failed in the recent Copa America. Like these there are innumerable examples where team managers were forced to resign. Likewise, Armando Colaco must also do and withdraw.

Subrata Pal deserve red card for playing foul game with the intention to hurt the opponent. He deserve red card because he clearly played foul.

I too will oppose his coming to Goa for Dempo. I dont want a criminal in Goan team. If Dempo hires him, I wil print another 5000 handbills to boycott Demp - boycott Armado Colaco - boycott Subrata Pal.

Tony D'Souza,
UAE.

FRANCIS FROM UAE ON VERONICA ON HIS ARTICLE ON INDO-UAE MATCH.

Whether Armando Colaco is carded by Dempo, GFA, AIFF or Asian Soccer Federation, he failed in his duty and as a manager he deserved the condemnation for fielding a criminal Subrata Pal in Indian team against UAE. I too watched the match and replays of Subrata’s foul play. He went with his bent knee to charge the UAE forward very aggressively. It looked intentional to harm the opponent physically. For this aggressive act he deserve highest punishment. Earlier he missed the life ban because Calcutta lobby supported his killing of Dempo’s Brazilian Christiano Junior.

The approach of Indians for the ball was very faulty, Indians did not maintain certain match approaches required for big match, they played as rowdies and as amateurs and lost like nothing. Indians did not look like international players, they were playing like kids trained by a cheap coach who lacked modern training skills. As a Goan I am not proud of Armando Colaco because he failed Goan prestige by conducting the Indian show very shabbily.

I oppose Dempo acquiring services of Subrata Pal and if Dempo goes ahead with this plan I will print 5000 Handbills saying “Boycott Dempo – Boycott Armando Colaco – Boycott Subrata Pal” and distribute these Handbills in Panjim and other localities in Goa. In this campaign I got strong backing of Goans like me.

Dempo and Armando Colaco are one eyed persons among blinds. For this reason Armando Colaco failed India against UAE. He may be good at Dempo level but definitely not at the all India level and at Asian level. I am not proud of him as a Coach. He may be a Goan but that does not mean I should support him blindly like his “Chamcha”.

Finally, Mr. A. Veronica, I fully endorse your views you expressed in your article very boldly and very clearly. We need writers like you only but unfortunately we have none besides you. Hence, goa-kranti is making ripples among all the Goan websites. There is no goan website as popular and as powerful as goa-kranti and there is no powerful writer among expatriate Goans as you are Mr. Veronica. In Kuwait there is nobody who can write correctly, boldly and openly as you can. You are the voice of real Goans. I salute you.

Francis D’Souza,

XAVIER FURTADO ON VERONICA'S ARTICLE ON INDIA-UAE ENCOUNTER.

Mr. Veronica,

I always appreciate your bold and frank views on various subjects, but I must admit that on the subject of goalkeeper Subrata Paul in the match between Indian and UAE, I beg to differ. I have watched the match on television and slow motion replays in great detail. The goalkeeper was not at fault. Subrata did not charge on the player, but the player charged on the Indian goalkeeper even when the Indian goalkeeper had the full posssesion of the ball. The replays show very clearly that Subrata had no firm bodily contact on the UAE player. The UAE player knowing fully well that the referee was behind him and the linesman was at the far end went down dramatically. Infact the UAE player should have been sent off for faking. FIFA rules clearly state that the goalkeeper should not be infringed upon when in possesion of the ball. Now we cannot question FIFA's credentials. If the Indian management lodges a complaint then FIFA should see the slow motion replays and ban the UAE player for further matches. Subrata's dastardly and inhuman act on Junior cannot be condoned.

You have questioned Armando Colaco's credentials and you also call Dempo SC a local outfit. Dempo SC over the years have been the national champions and the I league has been recognised by AFC. To coach a AFC affiliated team a coach requires a AFC licence which Armando has obtained long time back. To coach Indian football team a FIFA affiliated licence is required which Armando has. FIFA does not allow anyone to coach a national football team without the required licences and requisites. Dempo SC created history by becoming the first Indian team to reach the semifinals of the AFC cup in 2008. They have qualified to play in AFC Champions league twice, won the I league twice and National Football league twice. They are also the winners of Goa league 11 times, besides winning the Durand and the Federation Cup. Dempo SC at the moment is Goa's numero uno football club and this cannot be denied. It is the only goan club which has a majority of goan players unlike some other goan clubs who are filled with non goans for the sake of glory and fame. Goans should be proud of Armando Colaco as he is the first goan to be appointed as the head coach of the Indian Football Team. His appointment has not come through back door and it is be noted that his appointment is only temporary and not permanent.

Finally, no one needs a character certificate from UAE especially after the disrespectful showboating act committed by one of the players named Awana Diab recently when converting a penalty against Lebanon in a world cup friendly.

Regards,
Xavier Furtado.

FLORIAN LOBO ON VERONICA ON HIS ARTICLE ON INDIA-UAE TIE.

Dear Veronica,

I fully agree with your views as far as Subrata Pal and Armando is concerned.
Both should get the big 'SACK' from the International Soccer even if they may be pampered by local, insignificant soccer clubs like Dempos. The performance of our Indian soccer teams is such that I normally change the channel to hunt for any other International soccer game aired on the TV. The football our guys play is: Kick the ball the moment you get it, no matter where it lands. There is no skilled management of the ball at all. I wonder if Armando knows what 'ball-skill' is, in the first place.
:-))

Frankly speaking, as an old-time football buff and small time college team player, Chowgule College's then keeper ( in mid 60's) showed the same, if not hardcore, criminal tendencies, if you will agree with me. ANDREW is the name. He always ignored the ball and went for the player.

Cheers

INDIAN GOALKEEPER SUBRATA PAL DISGRACED INDIA.

Indian Goakeeper Subrata Pal

Within a period of 5 minutes, 2 penalties with 2 Red Cards were awarded against India during the soccer match between India and UAE played in Abu Dhabi on 24th of this month. It was a qualifying round match for the next World Cup. With the current irresponsibly lethargic rate of development of soccer in India, I can confidently say that India will never qualify for the World Cup Tournament, especially when we prepare and field a team such as we fielded this time against UAE under the irresponsible Goan Team Manager Armando Colaco. The first penalty awarded against India by the Qatari Referee was appropriate but surely not the Red Card given to the Indian deep defender. It was too much for a too simple infringement in too early time after starting the game.

However the second penalty awarded within 5 minutes was absolutely deserving and more than that the Red Card given to Indian keeper Subrata Pal who was not doing the job of goalkeeping but that of a criminal. He is the killer of Dempo’s Brazilian Christiano Junior 6 years back in the Federation Cup tournament played in Bangalore and the same thing he wanted to do again for the UAE forward when he holding the ball in his hands went charging the UAE forward with his folded knee. Good that the knee did not exactly hit the private part of UAE forward otherwise there would have been 2nd murder committed by this Indian murderer goalkeeper Subrata Pal after the first murder of Dempo’s Brazilian Christiano.Junior.

After receiving the Red Card, Subrata Pal with his aggressive body language was reluctant to leave the field like a "Dada" and during these few moments of his Tamasha doing, his body gestures and facial appearance depicted his image that of a ruffian and criminal. This man and his likes got dirty habit in Calcutta to act and play rough. What ruffianism they do in India they want to repeat outside India as well. But outside Indian soccer is controlled by international umpires and officials. UAE is not Calcutta and not India. By this rude and rough behaviour in Abu Dhabi against the local players, Subrata Pal created a very bad image of India and Indians in UAE where thousands and thousands Indians are earning their sustenance. To work there peacefully they require strong goodwill of the locals which is going to be surely affected due to the misbehaviour of one Indian ruffian Subrata Pal the disgraceful keeper of Indian national team. He forgot that he was also an Ambassador of India on the field and instead acted like a murderer.

In Nineteen Thirties in Australia due to the attrocious Bodyline Bowling by the visiting English player Larwood created havoc with the top players of the host country, its ugly result apeared outside the stadium for a long time when English people were hated by the Australians everywhere in Australia.

After the match between India & UAE one UAE national I met and he asked me "Are you Indians so rude?" I replied we Goans are totally different from these hardcore Bharatis telling him further how Subrata Pal killed our own Goa registered Brazilian player playing for Goan outfit Dempo.

Armando Colaco the team manager of India must own the responsibility of the entire fiasco that took place during this match and "get out" from his post. He failed to discipline his team especially the criminal Subrata Pal who first of all deserve no place in Indian squad after killing Goan player Christiano Junior. By the way is Armando Colaco really fit to be the manager of Indian squad and if yes on what basis? What was his soccer qualification as a coach? It is not enough to have long experience as Dempo’s coach. Dempo is local outfit and can such kindergarten man run the show of India? Armando Colaco is not Backenbeur nor Indian Naeemuddin. Armando Colaco proved to be a big failure by applying Goan butler’s management which is ok for Dempo. Because of his weak and indiscipline management Indian squad failed not only the Indian soccer team but more than that India and Indians in UAE who are now scorned by the locals.

The great Brazilian footballer Rivelino of 1970 -74 Brazilian squad besides being a very fine player was also a very aggressive hard tackler and retaliation was his forte. But with the heavy warning from his Team Manager against retaliation even for faulty hard tackle against him, he was firmly controlled and because of this strict disciplinary check on his retaliatory attitude not only he dished out attractive soccer but he also helped Brazil to dish out most attractive soccer thus gaining enormous goodwill for Brazil from all around the globe. This happened only because of the super skill of Manager to control the temper of his player. While our Armando Colaco failed and he failed miserably. As a Goan, I am ashamed of his failed managership.

Finally, according to the latest news circulating, with the blessing of Armando Colaco, Dempo is trying to seek the services for their team of that criminal Subrata Pal. If it happens, then the Goans not only the supporters of Dempo but all Goans should boycott Dempo. We don’t want on our soil a criminal who killed our Goan player. Goans must join together and revolt against Armando Colaco and Dempo Sports Club.

"MOTHER'S DAY" TIATRO IN KUWAIT.

After a long gap, Goans and Konkani speaking people in Kuwait will be entertained with an excellent Konkani Tiatro "MOTHER'S DAY " on Friday 30th September 2011.

This Tiatro is written and directed by the well-known Goan playwright Milagres de Chandor and it will be staged at Jabriya, Near Mubarak Hospital, Beside Blood Bank, Jabriya, Kuwait, starting at 3.30 pm.

The entire cast as show in the picture above is coming from Goa.

ALEMAOS RESIGNATIONS ARE A BIG TAMASHA.

Two Ministers Tender Their Resignations.

Big boss Churchill Alemao and his brother Joaquim tendered their resignations just because their pet project blew up in their face. Are Goans surprised ? I don’t think anybody is or will ever be, with the blackmailing tactics of the Alemao brothers, it has happened before and will continue to happen till Goans get some sense knocked into them and get these jokers off the political pedestal in Goa.

The Congress in Goa with no credibility or ethics whatsoever has been dancing to the tunes of a few snake charmers in the Goan political arena and has already sunk beyond redemption, which reminds me of the great Elizabeth Taylor, who was married nine times, three times to the same Richard Button. Congress has already broken that record too with numerous marriages and divorces to more than one renegade, and with elections round the corner there will be ample opportunities to witness more.

Ms Valanka’s nomination was rightly rejected as per the rules but we all know the Churchill clan thinks they are above the law or a law unto themselves. When power goes to the head arrogance and conceit comes to the fore. There is no doubt the Congress will still bow to them as loyalty, integrity are sacrificed and betrayal, deceit and arrogance are rewarded at the alter of power and position. Do anything and everything to stay in power is the mantra of the day.

I do salute the courage and the determination of the young man who filed the complaint for the disqualification of the Alemao princess riding piggyback of her father’s arrogance, money and muscle power. I won’t be surprised if some of the disgruntled senior Congressmen are behind this new fiasco, because long time party loyalists will definitely feel hurt and robbed if they are made to sacrifice their worth for a two bit puppet whose strings are pulled by disloyal opportunists and they have every right to be sore, not that the other Congressmen are virtuous but fortunately or unfortunately they think they are.

ADEUS "ASSUMPTION D'SA".

"It is not important how long you lived in this world but how you lived in this world is more important". My friend the late Assumption D'Sa who died in Goa on 19th of this month while on vacation from Kuwait lived a very good life by creating positive energy all around. He lived not only for himself and for his family but he also lived for the community and society by putting his inputs in the promotion of community affairs.

He was a very kind hearted and helpful person besides very sympathetic towards the suffering of others. He loved helping others especially those who were in need and in fact he helped many. Being a Goa lover Goan having been born and bred in Goa, he loved Goa and Goan causes very much. The third Goan association formed in Kuwait in the history of Kuwait Goans was known as "Goan Arts Circle" and it was formed under the initiative of Vincente D’Douza having our late Assumption D’Sa as the second in command of GAC. It was formed to raise funds for Goa Cancer Hospital and to conduct social and dramatic activities of Goans. It was formed in 1975 and Assumption D’Sa played a very good role in the promotion of this association. Though it failed to fulfil its required obligations yet in the initial stages it attracted lot of attention because of the integrity of Assumption D’Sa who was considered as dignified, upright and sincere man.
For any good cause of Goa and Goans he would immediately associate, that was his love for Goa. To work with him in any association was a pleasure because he was upright and a very systematic man.

By nature he was fanatic after sports and for soccer he would do anything. In late fifties and early sixties when soccer activities for expatriates were conducted at Ahmadi Oil Sector in Kuwait, he was a regular there by his presence not to play but to encourage the Goan players playing for different teams along with Europeans. With the initiative of UG when we started our competitive soccer in Kuwait City at Sour ground in 1979 I was playing for Salmiya Youth which was considered as one of the top teams in that inception year. From the audience seeing me playing the stellar role for our team, he came running to me during the interval showering abundant praises on me and since then he became my fan and friend.

Then immediately the next season with his strong backing we formed Goan Overseas Association with two soccer teams namely, G.O.A. Maroons and the other G.O.A. Whites.
To promote the soccer activities of G.O.A., Assumption D’Sa really played a Herculean role putting in Himalayan efforts to unite the players and others under G.O.A. banner and even taking care of the needs of the players. He enjoyed especial love and respect from all the players because of his relentless efforts to support G.O.A. teams. He was guiding and advising players even from the sidelines ignoring his health even. Soccer became his medicine even at his old age and soccer activities and involvement in soccer brought extra vigour to his advancing age. Because of the love of soccer and for the cause of G.O.A. Maroons he not only sacrificed a lot putting him into lot of inconveniences but he also inconvenienced his family as well since he kept them also ocuupied in this affairs.

When a few Kuwait Goans joined together and formed Gulf Goans Hotels Company in 1979 to construct Hotel Goan Heritege at Calangute, he played an iconic role to get Share Holders for this company. Because of his sincerity and integrity many Share Holders purchased Shares. If today we Kuwaitkars see this project with pride and honour we must salute the efforts during the initial stages of our late Assumption D’Sa in promoting this project.

In 1978 we in Kuwait established Novem Goem Pratishthan Kuwait Somiti, to prmotoe Novem Goem Daily in Goa, Assumption D’Sa was one of the persons to support our move by joining our committee. By joining us he gave his financial contribution and helped us to move ahead because he had great love for Konkani. He always supported me and others in our efforts to promote the Konkani cause.

During the invasion of Kuwait, when we organised our movement in Goa, he personally along with his Daughter came to Panjim for our Public Rally followed by the Public Meeting thereby showing his love for Kuwait. He was the great supporter of Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Centre that was formed to promote the cause of Kuwait.

During his over 5 decades in Kuwait, he lived a very decent and upright life. He was a very good husband to his very good wife, so too a very good father to his very god children and a very good ember of Goan community in Kuwait. In his death, Kuwait Goan community lost a great man of whose type very few are existing now.

May his soul rest in peace and may the Heavenly God give courage to his family to bear this colossal loss.

GLOBAL GOANS & THEIR SUPPORT TO GOA.

I am an Indian citizen not by my own choice but by force imposed on me by the Government of India on 19th December 1961 and thru this force Government of India stationed in New Delhi forced Indian citizenship on me. I have not opted for Indian citizenship, it was imposed on me from New Delhi by the Indian Government headed by Nehru the premier of India when my beloved Goa, when my virgin Goa, when my greenery filled Goa, when my naturally beautiful Goa, when my innocent Goa was forcibly invaded by the mighty Millitary power of Indian Government. Though geographically Goa falls in Indian subcontinent but politically it was not, politically it was a separate political entity being the overseas territory of Portugal. Indian Government has forcibly by using military force invaded Goa and annexed it to Indian jurisdiction. Though it was invaded but Supreme Court of India in its landmark judgement on Goa’s case said that "Goa on 19th December 1961 was conquered by India'’. The word liberation is missing in the Supreme Court judgement. Hence, legally and officially Goa was not liberated but conquered.

Though I was a Portuguese citizen legally yet I did not want to be under a colonial power Portugal. Portugese were strangers to rule over Goa, they too forcibly conquered my Goa and as such they had to leave Goa either voluntarily or forcibly and this was our decision, only we Goans were to take this decision and not by the Delhi Babus under the crook Defence Minister of India Krishna Menon. On 19th December 1961 Indian Government under Nehru Robbed my beautiful Goa from Portugal and annexed it to India making greater Bharat which is filled with all the corrupt practices unknown to Goa earlier.

Given a choice I would be the first person to secede from greater India because this India is swallowing my Goa not territorially but culturally, linguistically, economically, traditionally, historically and in all respects. When Goa became a part of India politically, my Goa started losing its identidy. To stop further eradication of Goa’s original characteristics and to put an end to the approaches of Maharastra from totally swallowing Goa, we had to fight for separate statehood for Goa, at least something is better than nothing. If Maharastra had to sallow Goa we would lose our identity by losing our Konkani language to Marathi thereby losing our beautiful folklore, folk tales, folk songs, culture, tradition and everything we have unique in us which is based on Konkani.

The Konknni people from Maharastra by being Maharastrian have lost almost everything of their own; their language, culture, tradition, folklore to Marathi, some of the patriotic Konknni people associating in my Konkani movement in Kuwait are showing their regret and sorrow for losing their Konknni culture to Marathi where there is no choice for them. They are now become slaves of Maharastra and Marathi culture which is foreign to them. .

Hence the imperative need of having separate statehood for Goa came. To save Goa from getting liquidated and wholly swallowed by Maharastra which was also the wish of Nehru and Delhi, we the Kuwaitkars initiated from Kuwait strong movement to help our fellow Goans in Goa financially to move forward in organising Konkani movement in Goa. When we started this movement in Kuwait 3 decades back our counterparts in the West were silent and till today for the cause of Goa they are still silent. Having Goan Associations and organsing annual functions and get-together will not help Goan causes in Goa. At the moment what is required in Goa is to take possession of Goan lands and properties by Goans. Outsiders are coming to Goa and purchasing Goan properties while we are selling our land to anyone. The Western Goans with Western Passports are losing Goa for themselves. The coming generation born and brought up in the West will entirely lose Goa for them and unfortunately they will not be interested in Goa either. West settled and working there Goans are in much better position to puchase Goan land but instead many of them are selling their ancestral land and houses to non-Goans and hugging Portuguese, British and other Western Passports. And yet they take pride in being Goans. I am ashamed of their Goanness.

Orgnising Goan conventions without doing anythig concrete to save Goa from getting Goa degoanised is foolish. Organising seminars and conventions by the Goans permanently settled in the West will not solve Goa's problem. Goa Government and Goan politicians will not care for any shouts from Goans settled any part of the globe. And by the way, what is the capacity and love of West settled Goans to rescue Goa from the chaotic conditions Goa is undergoing now? When the soul of Goa - Konkani - was burning the West settled Goans were silent. It is not enough to organise Goan functions to mark the Fest of Goycho Saib and to join all in the Club Hall to eat Goan Sorpotel and dance the whole day. What Kuwait Goans among all the exptriate Goans have done for the cause of Goa none can do and never be able to do.

What is the show and pomp of having GLOBAL Goan gatherings and Conventions when we do nothing concrete to protect Goa in Goa? Goa Government in Goa manned by all the "Rostad" persons are sucking the blood of Goans, they are corrupting the whole system in Goa, they are acting against the interest of genuine and true Goans. Goa Government is anti-Goan, promoting all round corruption. This Government and its machinery will do nothing for the good of Goa and Goans. Only shameless expatriate Goans will shamelessly entertain the Goa Government personnel. These expatriate Goans have no right to talk for Goa because they did nothing for Goa when Goa and Konkani needed their help and currently too they are doing nothing to protect Goa and its unique identity.

Recently in the West one scheduled Goan function was cancelled because of dispute between the two factions. This is our Goan Christian tradition and we maintained it even in the West because it is said in Konkani "Gaum assa thuim Marvott assa". "Goykar Christao assa thuim duspott astach".

To name a few it TSKK initiated the process to start a department of Konknni at the Goa University when Dr. Sheikh Ali was the Vice-Chancellor. TSKK requested and helped Nirmala Institute of Education to introduce Konknni as a special subject for the B.Ed. Course. When TSKK realized that the vast numbers of minority community members were greatly displeased for not giving any official place in Official language act 1987 of Goa, TSKK took the initiative to propose to establish Dalgado Konknni Akdemi to preserve and promote Konknni in Roman script and prepared the master plan for its activities and drafted the constitution. In 1991 when the Diocesan Board and Archdiocesan Board decided to run Konknni medium primary schools, TSKK prepared audio visual teaching material for KG and trained primary teachers from 1991 to 2010. Pratapananda Naik who has been labeled as “A priest with green fingers” is responsible for this garden and continues to maintain it. Over the years TSKK has built up an excellent library of Konknni, in fact it is the best library for Konknni research works. Since the future of Konknni is in Roman script, TSKK has taken initiative to prepare Konknni textbooks in Roman scripts. TSKK has joined hands with Mandd Sobhann, Mangalore to officially establish Jagotik Konknni Songhton (Global Konknni Association) on 20 August 2011 to work for Konknni with the principle “Unity in diversity”. TSKK is recognized by Goa University as a postgraduate Konknni research centre.

The new managing committee has plans to continue, develop and extend the works of TSKK in order to serve the Konknni language and people. It needs the support of Konknni lovers.

LETTER OF THE EDITOR OF "THE TIMES OF INDIA " TO THE PRIME
MINISTER OF INDIA

I am born and brought up in Mumbai for last fifty eight years.
Believe me, corruption in Maharashtra is worse than that in Bihar .
Look at all the politicians, Sharad Pawar, Chagan Bhujbal, Narayan
Rane, Bal Thackray , Gopinath Munde, Raj Thackray, Vilasrao Deshmukh
all are rolling in money. Vilasrao Deshmukh is one of the worst Chief
ministers I have seen. His only business is to increase the FSI every
other day, make money and send it to Delhi , so Congress can fight
next election. Now the clown has found new way and will increase FSI
for fishermen, so they can build concrete houses right on sea shore.
Next time terrorists can comfortably live in those houses, enjoy the
beauty of the sea and then attack our Mumbai at their will.

Recently, I had to purchase a house in Mumbai. I met about two
dozen builders. Everybody wanted about 30% in black. A common person
like me knows this and with all your intelligence agency & CBI, you
and your finance ministers are not aware of it. Where all the black
money goes? To the underworld, isn't it? Our politicians take help of
these goondas to vacate people by force. I myself was victim of it. If
you have time please come to me, I will tell you everything.

If this has been a land of fools, idiots, then I would not have
ever cared to write to you this letter. Just see the tragedy. On one
side we are reaching moon, people are so intelligent; and on the other
side, you politicians have converted nectar into deadly poison.I am
everything - Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Scheduled Caste, OBC, Muslim
OBC, Christian Scheduled Caste, and Creamy Scheduled Caste; only what
I am not is INDIAN. You politicians have raped every part of Mother
India by your policy of divide and rule.

Take example of our Former President Abdul Kalam. Such an
intelligent person; such a fine human being. But you politician didn't
even spare him and instead choose a worthless lady who had corruption
charges and insignificant local polititian of Jalgaon WHO'S NAME
ENTIRE COUNTRY HAD NOT HEARD BEFORE. Its simple logic your party just
wanted a rubber stamp in the name of president. Imagine SHE IS SUPREME
COMMANDER OF INDIA 'S THREE DEFENCE FORCES. What morale you will
expect from our defence forces? Your party along with opposition
joined hands, because politicians feel they are supreme and there is
no place for a good person.

Dear Mr Prime minister, you are one of the most intelligent
person, a most learned person. Just wake up, be a real SARDAR. First
and foremost, expose all selfish politicians. Ask Swiss banks to give
names of all Indian account holders. Give reins of CBI to independent
agency. Let them find wolves among us. There will be political
upheaval, but that will be better than dance of death which we are
witnessing every day. Just give us ambience where we can work honestly
and without fear. Let there be rule of law. Everything else will be
taken care of.

Choice is yours Mr. Prime Minister. Do you want to be lead by
one person, or you want to lead the nation of 100 Crore people?

GOANS !! DON'T ALLOW STATE POLITICS TO BE A FAMILY AFFAIRS.

By Nisser Dias 14th July 2011

Goan! Don’t allow state politics to be a family affair.

Benaulim MLA and former Tourism minister Mickky Pacheco last week spelt out his plans for the forth coming assembly election slated for 2012. His disclosure of fielding candidates in all the 40 constituencies did not really come as a surprise, because it is an open secret that the present lot of MLAs, especially those of the India’s oldest political party Congress and others affiliated to it (coalition MLAs) have plans to get their family members into the political scenario.

Goans have been bemoaning the level of corruption in the present day government led by the beleaguered chief minister Digambar Kamat, who has given a ‘carte blanc’ to his ministers to loot, rob and plunder the Goa’s exchequer and rape Goa of its natural beauty through illegal mining and blatant construction with the blessing of the ministers by cutting hills, sand dunes and filling low lying areas.

With such malpractices and illegal activities almost all the ministers in the Kamat led coalition government have amassed wealth to sustain their generation to come but are still not satisfied, so much so that they want to bring in their children and spouses not only to amass ill-gotten wealth, but also to hold the government to ransom when either a police complaint or criminal case is ought to be registered against them for their illegal activities.

Infact PWD minister and Navelim MLA Churchill Alemao has used such tactics during this tenure when he threatened to topple the government if Mickky Pacheco was inducted in the ministry by dropping Revenue minister Jose Philip D’souza and a second time was when Education minister Babush Monserrate was caught at the Bombay airport with huge amounts of currency Indian as well as foreign.

Nobody will forget that Churchill Alemao not only strong-armed his way into Kamat led government using toppling bid, but at the same time unseated Sudin Dhavlikar from the ministry and bagged the plum PWD portfolio with which he is alleged to have amassed huge wealth. Now he wants to introduce his daughter Valanka Alemao into the state politics. Joaquim Alemao wants to introduce his son Yuri Alemao. God forbid if four members of a family are given the mandate by the people of the state, there will be no end to ransom games of Churchill Alemao, till his will is done. Lest we forget Churchill was the first legislator to start toppling trend in Goa way back in 1991 and that too during his very first stint in the assembly. He toppled Pratapsing Rane to become the chief minister of 19 days and then handed the reins to Dr. Proto Barbosa.

Whether Congress party gives ticket to all the four members of a family is to be seen. At the last hustings Joaquim Alemao bagged the Congress ticket, while Churchill had got elected on Save Goa party. History is going to repeat itself this time too and he knows it well. PWD minister has his office in Varca, however there is no Congress party flag nor the picture of the president of the party Sonia Gandhi decorating it. Of course Valanka has recently pictured with Rahul Gandhi but those are for the attics. Besides introducing his family members, he is likely to bank-roll some other candidates in the state who will later owe allegiance to him.

Unlike Churchill, Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco has not been discreet and loud mouth that he is has disclosed his plans. The former minister has not been in power for almost two years, it would be amusing to observe how he finances forty candidates in the state. Ironically for the last more than two years he was grooming a candidate for Benaulim constituency, however the person backed out after Pacheco alleged told him to keep Rs. Four crores ready for elections expenses. Mickky too has introduced his partner Viola for Cortalim constituency. But is yet to be seen whether the government scuttles his plans by reserving the constituency for Schedule Tribe community.

Likewise Health minister Viswajit Rane is alleged to be grooming his wife to replace his father’s seat in case Pratapsing Rane was nominated for Rajya Sabha. However with renomination of Shantaram Naik, we will have to wait and watch the developments. Education minister Babush Monseratte has already announced that he would be contesting the next assembly election against Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar in the Panjim constituency. Jennifer Monseratte wife of Babush is likely to contest from Taleigao.

Then we have Home minister Ravi Naik backing his son Roy Naik to contest in Mayem assembly constituency. Roy has a colourful background as in recent times he has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Then we have Subhash Narvekar brother of Dayanand Narvekar who is trying his luck again. Revenue minister Jose Philip D’souza’s brother Pascoal D’souza is contemplating to jump in the fray. Two Dhavlikar brothers are already in the scene.

This is the scenario as of now, as time draws closer there will surely be some other developments. But the question before us today is, should we allow these handful of self centered political families to rule 15 lakh population. Till recently some handful of families had raped Goa of its mining reserves, but today some politicians have got a share in it through either machinery being deployed in the mines or transportation or illegal mining and even robbing mine ore and selling it.
The current politicians have made bureaucrats IPS as well GPS their puppets one can easily imagine what they will do when they have numbers in terms of family members to support them in their evil designs. Jobs are dished out not on merit basis but the basis of who can shell out the price tag on the designated position.

The police department is totally politicized; the men in uniform conduct investigation as per the whims and fancies of politicians. At the moment the police are not protecting those who pay their wages, but those who pay their bribes.
At the moment Digambar Kamat led government is not functioning as a government should but as per the dictum of the ministers. What will happen when we have family members as legislators. Will they not demand that all of them be made ministers and then demand lucrative portfolios.

Coming election they will dish out biryani, chicken, alcohol and Rs 500 to vote for them but in turn they will reap crores of rupees for the next five years. Fellow Goans! The upcoming state assembly elections are very crucial to Goa and Goans. If we cast our ballot in favour of these political families we are surely doomed. If there are any Goans worth their salt, spread the message to vote against those who are introducing their kith and kin to hold Goa ransom and destroy it to oblivion.

BOYCOTT CHURCHILL ALEMAO, NYC & KGA.

This is with reference to the article in this column on 14th inst., under the caption "Is Churchill Worthy of Kissing Bible?" The title is very appropriate for this sinner Churchill who is looting Goa thru PWD and making the life of poor Goans miserable. On top of it he calls himself The Man of the Masses. Navelim constituency voters must make a firm resolution now only to defeat him in the coming election. He is all out to destroy and loot Goa. He is depriving poor Goans of their livelihood.

The Navelim villagers who are running the football show in Kuwait promoting Alemao family should feel ashamed of promoting Churchill Alemao in Kuwait. If these people under NYC has any shame and love for their villagers who as alleged are harassed & looted in Navelim by Churchill Alemao then NYC will stop all activitites in Kuwait done to promote Churchill Alemao and Alemao family.

All the affected villagers from Navelim must take a Morcha and go with Black Flags to the houses of NYC President Agnelo and his colleagues in NYC against Churchill Alemao whom NYC support blindly because Churchill is bribng them.

And where is Salvador of Curtorim gone now? Do you like what Churchill Alemao is doing in Navelim for the poor farmers?

All Kuwait Goans must boycott KGA of Salvador and NYC, both these associations are supporting Churchill Alemao in Kuwait.

Only the Pimps, Cheats, Corrupt and Wife Deserters are promoting Churchill in Kuwait. Not only they are shamelessly prmoting Churchill Alemao but even his Daughters and Sons-In-Law when their contribution in the promotion and development of the Goans in Kuwait is NOTHING.

Thanks KRANTI for publishing this letter of mine. More will follow.

IS CHURCHILL WORTHY OF KISSING BIBLE??

Seen in the picture is Churchill Alemao kissing the Holy Bible to show that he is holy man but when you read the below mentioned article you will notice that it is an act of "Tamasha" which lowers the holiness of the Holy bible.

Churchill criticised for acquiring paddy fields

Forwarded by: Xavier Furtado

First he was after properties and now paddy fields which people cultivate for their livelihood. Next in line will be the lakes and of course finally River Sal. But kudos to him because his constituents are shameless for electing and supporting him in his evil deeds. His modus operandi is to grab the land and then dole out peanuts as sponsorship to organize tournaments, dramas, meetings where he and his entourage are felicitated and so forth. With this his so called educated constituents are happy to be fooled and be bought by him. He is all set to win the next elections from Navelim constituency and who can bet against him because his electorate are now fully owned by him. Goa and Goans are facing extinction from this planet. If not read the fact below:

MARGAO: PWD Minister Churchill Alemao on Wednesday came under fire from farmers and citizens of Navelim constituency, as they accused him for acquiring paddy fields and has vowed to protect their ancestral agricultural land from destruction.

Representatives of farmers from Orlim, Fatrade-Varca, Rawanfond-Navelim, Panchwadi, besides farmers who have been cultivating fields in and around the Saipem lake, asserted that they had all approached the PWD Minister in the past for help and assistance to save their fields, but in vain.

They termed as double standards PWD Minister’s separate statements questioning the district collector over the cultivation of the Rawanfond fields and his assurance to the farmers of Saipem
lake to continue cultivating the fields, notwithstanding the acquisition. Saipem lake farmers told newsmen that they had approached the Chief Minister and the PWD Minister for help, but their pleas were turned down.

“Now, people are confused over Alemao’s statement that the farmers can still cultivate the fields even if they are acquired by the government. We had suggested to the government to freeze the land use, but the government went ahead with the acquisition, indicating a hidden plan to change the land use in the future. Lot of agricultural schemes are doled out, but sadly agricultural land is grabbed on the other side”, remarked Scella Fernandes. She feared that the government decision to acquire Saipem lake fields would displace 150 farmers.

Farmers of Rawanfond-Navelim pointed out they were the first affected group when their fields were acquired without even being served notices. “We had protested and even met the Minister, but to no avail. These fertile fields the Minister have planned to award to the immigrants, which we believe is his vote bank”, said Claudious Fernandes.

Incidentally, farmers from Fatrade-Varca maintained that the Ministers are distributing seeds, fertilizers, but on the other side are snatching their fields. “Fields are being acquired in the village to construct a football ground for a school that stands closed for the last 20 years. We had approached the PWD Minister, but nothing happened. We are under constant fear that the government will snatch our ancestral fields one day”, he said.

“Government has no legal rights to acquire any Communidade property. We will agitate together for a better development and help in maintaining food security and greenery of the state and country, which government and politicians have plans to destroy or landfill the agricultural land and use the same land for their own benefits”, remarked Ida.

TO PROTECT GOA, KONKANI & CHRISTIANITY.

By Alfred R. Alfred.

There are many Goans who are putting up their tweets, thoughts, words in Cyberspace on how they can protect Goa from being destroyed by migrants, mining lobby, drug lords, corrupt politicians, etc and how they can protect Konkani language from being eclipsed by Marathi & English language but how many of these Goans are prepared to convert their tweets, thoughts, words into practical action ????????

The Catholic Portuguese giving more importance to building Churches and proliferating Catholicism and the Protestant Britishers giving more importance to building schools, colleges , universities, hospitals, provide water supply and drainage facilities in towns, electric power supply, build roads, railways, harbours and introduce posts and telegraphs is True BUT the Portuguese & British are gone forever from India leaving Christians in India at the mercy of the majority Hindu community most of whom have been communalized by the Hindu terror groups – RSS, VHP & BAJRANGDAL who are masquerading as Hindu cultural groups. Even a large section of the Indian administration and Indian police force has been communalized. Wherever in India there are communal riots the local administration & police force join hands with the sangh parivar.

The Congress Party controlled UPA/Indian govt. has banned the Muslim terror groups – SIMI & IM but why the Congress Party controlled UPA/Indian govt. not prepared to ban rss, vhp & bajrangdal which are not only involved in slaughtering minorities during communal riots but also have got involved in carrying out blasts in ajmer, malegaon, samjautha express, hyderabad masjid blasts, etc.

It looks like the Congress needs to keep the threat of communalism alive to capture the minority votes as it has failed to alleviate the social and economic conditions of muslims & christians. So no bread, just circuses. No roti kapda makaan for the minorities, just plenty of rss vhp bajrangdal mongering.

The congress party gets the votes of poor people, marginalized people, minority people and once in power the congress party passes laws favouring the builders – corporate – telecom – industrialist – sez & other lobbies. Because of laws favouring the rich the rich become richer.

In the United States, where substantial funds are raised for Hindu extremist agendas, the U.S. Government must act to ensure that organizations that broker terror in India should not continue to enjoy their non-profit status within the USA. Unfortunately the U.S. Government turns a blind eye because the Hindu extremist groups don’t attack the American people……. Non Resident Indian Hindus are making new websites promoting Hindutva & Hinduism. They are building grand temples made of marble, gold, silver in various parts of the world especially in America, Canada, Europe, Australia & other Christian countries.

There is serious competition between the Christian Missionaries & the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. The Christian missionaries are running camps in various tribal areas of India to convert the Tribals to Christianity and the VHP ensures that the Tribal Christians are forcibly converted to Hinduism. Just like the Christian missionaries get massive funds from missionary groups in western countries the VHP also gets massive funds from NRI Hindus in western countries.

TWO YOUNGSTERS DROWN AT CABO-DE-RAMA

As usual news papers bring us good, bad, ugly and shattering news and
pictures. This case of drowning at Cabo-de-Rama is shattering indeed,
what must be the state of the parents and the family members of the
dead children ? My deepest sympathies and condolences to the parents
and the loved ones.

This is the second instance of drowning during rainy season in the
last two to three years, last year or year before three residents of
Khola took a plunge into the rough sea while fishing on the
north-western side of Cabo-de-Rama two were rescued by Navy
helicopters, one died. So also in Canaguinim a few years ago a middle
aged man lost his life saving four children from drowning. This
present drowning took place on the south-eastern side of Cabo-de-Rama.
There is no doubt that this entire area is very scenic and a very good
fishing spot as well, especially during the rainy season but utmost
care must be taken not to go too close to the sea. Even during the
normal season the Rajbagh beach near Cabo-de-Rama is dangerous for
swimming as more often than not it has very strong undercurrents and I
say this from experience and not hearsay.

There were at least two articles of mine published in the news papers
about the dangers of venturing into the sea at Cabo-de-Rama and
Canaguinim especially during the rainy season. How I wish they had
read these articles. We the residents of that area know the sea well
and hence even though most of us are good swimmers we seldom venture
near the rocks but outsiders somehow think its safe and learn the
truth the hard way. I am told that these children were there without
the knowledge of the parents and they were taking photographs around
the rocks when a huge wave forced three of them off the rock and into
the sea, two drowned one saved, it is such a waste of valuable life.

I request all Goans who like the sea and want to have fun, be careful,
it is only if you are alive that you can have fun, any visitors to
Cabo-de-Rama and Canaguinim especially during the rainy season stay
away from the sea, it can and has swallow life.

THE GREAT GOAN FOOTBALLER - THE LATE ANDREW D'SOUZA.

With deep regret and sorrow I write these lines on the sad demise of my colleague in soccer arena the late Andrew D’Souza. Portuguese were the first to introduce the beautiful game of soccer and also to promote it in Goa. I am grateful to Portuguese for developing Goans as finest footballers in India. The beautiful art of playing beautiful soccer we Goans have learnt from the Portuguese soldiers stationed in Goa for 451 years till December 19th, 1961.

As per the story going on, in late fifties at Vasco Portuguese soldiers were daily practicing and playing soccer. As a small boy, in that neighbourhood Andrew D’Souza was watching the Portuguese footballers playing and sometimes was also acting as ball boy for them. Gradually, the kind hearted Portuguese footballers started asking young Andrew to join them as one of the players. Playing with them at an early age and watching them playing beautifully, Andrew also learnt to play beautifully and thus became the most artistic footballer Goa has ever produced after Olympian Neville D’Souza from Assagao Bardez. According to Tata’s Mendon who played opposite to Neville in Bombay and Mohun Baghan’s Raman who played along with Neville in the Olympics at Melbourne in 1956 where our Goan Neville scored a Hat-Trick, during their tenure as coaches of our Sesa soccer Team in late sixties, Andrew D’Souza if not equal then at least second to Neville D’Souza as far as playing artistic soccer is concerned, among all time great Goan footballers. Mendon and Rahman were the keen observers of Goan footballers in Bombay and in Goa.

Immediately after Goa’s forcible annexation by Bharat, during the maiden appearance of Goa in the Indian National Soccer Santosh Trophy Tournament held at Madras, seeing Andrew playing the most artistic soccer and also playing the stellar role for Goa, the national Press commented saying “ Indian football if wants to improve its standard then it must learn the finest points of playing finest soccer from Goans and showered enormous praises especially on Andrew’s skills”. That was the most memorable team Goa had ever fielded in Santosh Trophy. That was the Goan team that had total inheritance and knowhow from the Portuguese soccer. Commenting on the performance of this team, Dr. Gustavo Monteiro fom Candolim and the then president of Goa Football Association who accompanied the Goa squad commented saying “the role Andrew played was so super that with his body swerves and feinting, accuracy in feeding his colleagues and shooting the ball with his right foot so placingly, he made the opponents defence mad. So much so, in the quarter final, the host team had to resort to dirty tactics against Andrew to inflict injuries on him”.

First time I saw Andrew in action was in 1963 when he was playing for Goa XI against visiting Bombay Goans XI, at Mapusa Duler, with some star players earlier representing India. Andrew was young boy then with beautiful ball control, excellent skills, cool headed, accurate shooting power in both the legs and very good running speed especially when the ball is in the Box. This type of sprinting running skill in the Box near the opponent’s goalmouth only Neville D’Souza had in India earlier, according to soccer experts. Bupinder Singh Rawat of the then Gurkha Brigade and later on of Mafatlal in late sixties came the third after Neville and Andrew, says the soccer pundits.

My tenure as first class footballer playing in senior division for Sesa Goa and as the Champion athlete of Goa was of short duration due to chronic injuries I suffered while running. But during this short period I played for Sesa Goa in the second and first (senior) divisions I had great opportunities to rub my shoulders on the football ground with all the then great Goan footballers. I had great distinction to mark and stop great Goan forwards of that era including the golden quartet of Vasco’s ABCD, namely Andrew, Bernard, Catao and Domnick. I was playing as inside right defender and was extremely good in the aerial duels and in running with sprinter’s speed to check the clever and fastest moves of top scorers of Goa. The ABCD quartet of Vasco was unique, such a quartet never came before nor after in Goa and as a matter of fact it is unlikely to come in future. Andrew was the link with the other three who were all interchanging their positions without even whispering to the other, their working was mechanical, spontaneous at the spur of the moment. Besides, their midfield was orchestrated very beautifully by the midfield Maestro Keshav of whose type Goa is yet to produce another while the defense line was manned by the two realiable generals Satyan and George Ambrose and in their goal Arvinder Singh was putting an impenetrable wall under his bar. They were very well trained in this art by their then Western coach Mr. Brown, an employee of Chartered Bank, at Mormugao.

It was at Margao Rajendra Prasad Stadium, Sesa and Vasco were playing in the final of Taca Goa in late sixties, Bandodkar was the Chief Guest. The match was heading for the draw and Sesa had an upper hand, I was at my best and as per our Coach I was instructed strictly to keep vigil on every move of Andrew. At one particular moment, Andrew was waiting for the pass from Catao outside our box for the ball while I was behind Andrew marking his move to stop him from taking that pass. When the ball reached near the feet of Andrew passed by Catao, Andrew instead of touching the ball, left it go untouched like that and to fool me behind him he simply ran the opposite direction without ball. Like a fool, I also ran after Andrew leaving the ball to go on its own way where Domnick was waiting to stop it and score from close angle. Because of this foolishness of mine I had to face scorn from the entire Sesa Sports managemet even jeopardizing my career while Andrew was hailed by the entire Goa as master tactician. Such tactics Pele was known to perform and in fact in 1970 World Cup Final against the mighty Italy he did perform very beautifully. After the match during the prize distribution ceremony, Andrew personally came to me, shook my hand and said “don’t worry, such things are bound to happen. Your are still young”. That time I was doing my first year at St. Xaviers, at Mapusa.

Andrew was a very decent and clean footballer on the field, soft spoken. I never saw him playing rough though sometimes outside the playing field he was a bit boastful of his prowess. He was called for India Camp many times but selected only once. He was the most sought after footballer by the mighty Calcutta Clubs with very good money and very good facilities but his allegiance to Vasco was final. He was on peak of his form when Vasco won the WIFA Final in Bombay in mid sixties and since then Vasco became the darling of Goans in Bombay, Andrew being the hero of all especially at Dhobitalao and Chandanwaddy he was simply mobbed and kissed by the people. After winning this cup, many of the Goans who got baby boys in Bombay were named after Andrew. When Vasco reached for the Rovers Cup final, first time a Goan team, in mid sixties, the pride and prestige of Vasco and Goa was revolving around one and only one player, that was on Andrew but unfortunately Vasco lost by a solitary goal scored by Mohun Bhagan’s forward Khannan though everyone expecting Vasco to win. Out of fear for Andrew’s skill and game, Mohun Bhagan brought their rocky defender Jarnail Singh from the Asiad Camp where he was undergoing training for the selection of Asian team. Jarnail Singh proved his worth by stopping Andrew’s moves even by committing faulty means. After the final, somebody said “To rock the Goan Rock, Mogun Bhagan broght the Rock of Gibraltar”.

In soccer, Andrew was the national hero known everywhere in India and in Kerala, he was adored like a king. I saw so many times in Kerala after the match some soccer crazy Malyalis even kissed Andrew’s feet. Such craze for footballers I have seen only in Kerala because most fanatic soccer lovers are in Kerala. So many times when I was also touring South with Sesa Goa, I saw soccer crazy Malyalis in their posh private cars coming to the hotel where Andrew was staying to take him for the Lunch and Dinner at their places. The Malyalis adored Andrew for his genius in playing entertaining soccer. In Goa he too was adored but not the way he was adored in the South.

One of his most memorable actions seen on one occasion was that, he dribbled the ball past the three defenders and halted it under his right foot for a few seconds in front of the goalkeeper alone under his bar all confused, then Andrew swerved his body to his left side keeping the ball intact under his right foot. Knowing not Andrew was feinting, the goalkeeper moved towards his right while Andrew slowly entered the empty net with the ball towards his right and brought the ball back to the centre of course to the thunderous applauding and whistling by the crowd. Such actions only Andrew could do and do the same with perfection.

In his death Goa lost a great footballer. Such footballers come amidst us only once and as such his memory should not vanish from our minds as forgotten Hero. In Goa, we have a good habbit to adore our heroes when they are heroes but bad vice to forget them when they are Zeroes. This should not happen to our beloved Andrew who almost through one and a half decade of football playing career entertained Goan soccer lovers and kept the Goan soccer flag flying high.

May the soul of Andrew D’Souza Rest In Peace and may the Heavenly God give courage to his family members to bear this colossal loss. Along with all my like minded admirers of Andrew D’Souza, I deeply mourn his sad death. His death is a great loss to Goa and soccer.

GOONDA RAJ STILL EXISTS IN GOA PROMOTED BY ALEMAOS

By Nisser Dias.
7th July 2011

The recent assault on the junior engineer (JE) attached to the Electricity department by two youth both allegedly related to PWD minister and Navelim MLA Churchill Alemao are an indication of things to come in the near future if constituents cast their ballot to such representatives.

There is always an underlying fear of stringent retribution if a government employee is abused or assaulted and that while on duty. Infact, the court has recently convicted and sentenced former Tourism minister and Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco to undergo imprisonment of one year for assaulting a JE at his residence.

However though, this example did not deter Herculean D’costa and Yuri Ferrao from assaulting junior engineer Alvito Fernandes. These two youth took law into their hands because they very well know that they have two uncles in the government who could bend the law, influence the police and even the witnesses. Infact immediately after the assault, it is alleged that Churchill Alemao tried to hush up the case by asking Power minister Alexio Sequeira to request the JE not to lodge a police complaint. Nevertheless, the JEs from various areas united together and filed a complaint.

Here lies the irony and double standards of our politicians. When Mickky Pacheco had assaulted a JE, Power minister stood by his staff and saw to it that justice was done, but in the recent case the same power minister was allegedly requesting the JE not even to lodge a complaint with the police. It is well know that the Alexio Sequeira is going to have tough contest on his hands and Mickky has made it crystal clear that he is contesting in Nuvem assembly constituency.

Be that as it may, the two youth Herculean and Yuri very well know that they cannot assault a government servant or rather take law into their hands as the former is the son of Carmona sarpanch while the latter is the son of former panch member of the Carmona. Incidentally both the accused are related to Churchill Alemao. This is not the first time that Yuri and his brother Danzy has taken the law into their hands. They were instrumental in assaulting Orlando D’silva a Carmona panch member who has strongly opposing Raheja mega project in the village. Infact this assault was filmed by electronic media journalist present at the meeting. The Ferrao brothers have become habitual offenders and assaulters because they have an uncle who was named by a senior journalist as the Godfather General of Goondas.

Of course the goonda raj of yesteryears has not been wiped out, it is also not dormant. The extortions, threats, bribery continues subtly. As long as Churchill Alemao and his clan is in politics there is bound to the goonda raj. Of course the Alemao family has made politics their business and now to extract a bigger piece of the pie called Goa and Goans, two more family members are being sought to the added in the assembly. One is an advocate with practice and the other is supposed to be pilot (pilot’s licence can bought) who does not seem to get an entry into any airlines. The other reason could be that both the new entrants have realized that their uneducated fathers have made fortune by being in local politics in Goa.

Coming back to the goonda raj, family members and friends of the family members of the strongman of Varca have a ball of a time in most of the five star hotels in along the coastal belt of Salcete – all free of cost and if any manager, steward or waiter happen to offer the bill, the staff is assaulted. As recent as this a croupier lost his job and is currently on his way to his home, allegedly because members of the family played in the casino on credit to the tune of Rs. 1.60 lakhs and walked off.

SUV belonging to the Alemao family has been attached by the Colva police for allegedly knocking down a two wheeler rider. Everybody know who drives this car, but the police are said to be in the process of identifying the accused. Naturally to my mind the Alemao will prop-up some innocent man to take the blame and the sons of the Alemao clan will go scot free. This is the money power, muscle power and influence Alemao’s wield with ill-gotten wealth.

The questions before us today, will the accused that assaulted JE Alvito Fernandes be brought to book? Will this case ever reach the court of law? Will the police ensure that the accused are convicted just like in Mickky Pacheco’s case? Will one of the accused who is employed on a cruise liner be allowed to leave the country? Will junior engineer Alvito stand-up to the pressures of the ministers and not withdraw his complaint from the police station or give false testimony in the court in fear of bad posting, harassments or transfers? Will Alvito file a criminal petition in the court of law if the police fail to do it? Will Alvito repeat what Orlando da Silva did – take on the Alemaos?
