DECEPTIVE GAMES THE POLITICIANS PLAY.

By Aires Rodrigues

Politicians promise the moon and are known to innovate crafty excuses when it is time to deliver. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had specifically promised that Goa would have an effective Lokayukta in place within 100 days of his government coming to power. There were no riders to that promise. Now he says the count down to those 100 days will start only from the day the Lokayutka bill is cleared by the President of India. He says he is not responsible for things beyond his control. Having made a promise, getting the President’s assent is the Chief Minister’s responsibility.

Will we hear such an excuse on the garbage issue too? We have been promised that Goa will not have a shred of garbage on the streets within three months of the BJP government assuming power. Mr. Parrikar, we know you will not be personally picking up the garbage. Please do not tell us you could not find garbage collectors. And do not for a moment think you will be able to blame it on the ensuing monsoons. By then the three months would end anyways. The people’s trust and faith in you may just begin fading.

WELL WRITTEN ARTICLES BY A. VERONICA.

Dear Mr. A. Veronica Fernandes,

Your latest article on the late Remmie J. Colaco was excellent. Your great knowledge on Tiatro and Tiatrists was just great. Some of the songs you quoted of Remmie J. Colaco were very interesting especially on the importance of Mother. Sankistao was one song during those days was very popular. It would have been nice if you had quoted the full song to show to the new generation the genius of Remmie J. Colaco. I admire your memmory to remember these songs rendered years and years back.

Earlier your article on Sachin Tendulkar was a masterpiece where you suggested release of commemorative postal stamp in memory of his 100th century. I never knew that Pele’s 1000th goal was kept in reord with the commemorative postal stamp by Brasilian Government. This is an added and very important information especially for historian.

Goa-kranti is very informative and your articles on the political scene of Goa before and after the recent election were of great magnitude of which type we never read anywhere in Goan media including electronics. Your unique efforts in highlighting important events and news deserve highest reward. Your boldness in hitting the nail at the right spot is appreciated very much. By hitting the corrupt Goan politicians you proved you have guts. Never be a Chamcha of Goan politicians. Remain the same A. Veronica Fernandes till you die.

Keep up the very good work you are doing thru goa-kranti, it is best among all.

Francis Fernandes.

THE LATE REMMIE J. COLACO.

It was with deep sorrow and chagrin I got the sad news of the sad death of one of the renowned yesteryears Tiatrists, Remmie J. Colaco, on 22nd of this month, at the very ripe age of 87. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

It was somewhere in 1957-58 when I was young, I first saw the late Remmie J. Colaco playing the role of a female beggar cum concubine in the Tiatro "Doia" written and directed by the late Aristedes Dias, in my village Candolim. Though this Tiatro was one of the best in the history of Tiatros for this reason it was staged even in rural areas twice during those days but because of the excellent role played by Remie, its beauty reached to the highest peak. Because of his feminine facial looks, he was given the role of a female and his charming voice too resembled that of a female.

Then at the later stage I saw him in number of Tiatros written and directed by other playwrights. Himself he wrote and directed many Tiatros but the best that I liked among all were “Ghorachem Sukh” and “Zolmancho Ghaum”. Zolmancho Ghaum was staged in mid sixties which arises the patriotic feelings of real Goans towards their birth place Goa. Saluzinho was the star in this Tiatro that played the heroic role to impress upon everyone the importance of "Zolmacho Ghaum".

The other Tiatro of his that deserved highest compliments was “Ghorachem Sukh”, Part I, in early seventies. It was a very good family story revolving around the discipline of family life where Souza Ferrao, Cyriaco Dias, Antonette Mendes and Jacinto Vaz played their roles extremely well. There are no playwrights currently among us who stages such Tiatros based on genuine family life.

As a writer and director of Tiatros he had his excellence but for his solos he had his genius as very few had on Konkani stage. His solos on Goan politics of post December 1961 Goa were just superb but more than that his solos on family life. He rendered some very romantic songs also in the form of duets with Mohana. His solos on educating young girls how to maintain their dignity was class by itself. Many of his solos were based on this theme. As a very strong devotee of mother, he composed best solos as none did and will never be in future either, on the greatness of one’s mother. His two solos “Ankvar Moriechem Dukh” and “Sankistao” will remain in the history as unique. His comedy “Duos” with M. Boyer were just fantastic and will remain unparalleled in the history.

He was a freedom loving man and always eulogised democracy. When in 1975 Indira Ghandhi introduced Emergency Rule in India he was very much distressed and to show his dislike for this dictatorial Rule, he immediately after the loss of Indira’s Congress in the 1977 general election he composed and rendered a beautiful song in praise of democracy denouncing Emergency Rule and Indira too.

As a strong supporter of Christianity he condemned in one of his songs deportation of one Spanish Missionary Priest from Maharastra by Indian Government with the instigation of Maharastra Chief Minister V. P. Naik. This missionary priest was falsely accused of doing conversion in the rural areas of Maharastra while infact he was working for the upliftment of the rural and tribal people. Being a true Christian, if Remmie was active when Parrikar cancelled the Good Friday Holiday, he would take courage and strongly raise his voice from the stage very forcefully against Parrikar's cancellation of this Christian holiday.

Remmie J. Colaco during his long inning on Konkani Stage raised many issues for the good of Goa and Goans. Much before many of the current activists and politicians could take up issues of Goan interests, Remmie J. Colaco took up these issues from the Stage purely for the love of Goa and Goans.

In his songs he served Goa, Goan causes and his religion Christianity more than any of the so called Goa lover politicians.

His songs dwelt mainly on Romantic themes, political and family life. Some of the verses of some of his songs on different topics I give here below:

His romantic mind one can know by reading one of the verses of his romantic song which goes as follows:

Maria choltai tum halon ani dolon,
Kai borem distai tum fula porim fulon,
Nouro polleta tukam fattim vollon
Taka vissorxi tum dusreak bhulon,

Ch.

Noreak vissorxi, jurament dilai to negar veshi,
Taka lozen ghalsi, xirap buzon tum ankvar ursi.

The second romantic song – a duet - goes thus:

Aiz zoddlo ami sacrament kazaracho,
Tum sangat mozo morosor fuddaracho,
Aiz thaun tum bhoddvo mojea adharacho,
Samball kor mojea ghora dharacho

Ch

Devan amcher ghatlem besaum, mog ami kelolo dekhun khoro,
Amcher vaitt vigna eit zalear dhonia tunch kor poro,
Dogaim ghorib ami, magtaum fuddar amcho zavunk bhoro,
Devan amchea ekvottacher bhorim follam dilea puro.

In the following verses of his solo you can know how he cautions the young spinsters:

Bhoini bhurgech ponnir hanson nachon uddo,
Ankvar ponnar chedde ghalit tukam vheddo,
Tujea rupacher cheddeanchi nodor poddo,
Tum sobit ful soboitaleim vaddo,
Atam noxiban mevla tukam nouro,
Tujea hatin dila fulamcho turo,
Azun chedde tuzo korun assat paro,
Bhulonakaim tankam tukam ekloch puro

Ch

Bhailen ghovacho mog kelear khoro,
Tednanch fuddar zata boro.

The following is the great solo on greatness of our Mothers.

Sounsar ho lamb rund torui amkam pavona
Sounsarant etaum bhava ami kedinch ravona
Visvasi munis sodlear amkam mevona
Familik passun kedinch pationk favona

Ch

Pai tuji apurbai kortoch, murgottai uttien dhortoch,
To passun vissorta mae tuji mortoch
Dusre ponnir kazar zatoch, bhurghim vhoddlim zaun vaddtoch
Gorantlim bhair ghalta dusri bhail mevtoch

II

Bhau aple bhoinink moi mogan khelloita,
Apurbaechi bhoinn mhonn sangatan gheun bhonvta,
Vhaddon vhoddli zaisor, boro moipas dakoita,
Pun doth dinvchea vellar magir bhoinnink fottoita.

Ch

Soglea ghanvank tachi vhoddvik sangteli,
Bhav sinknar mhonn nachteli, tachea fustar mouza marteli,
Bhavachem mevona zatoch bodmas zateli.

III

Sounsar ho nirbhagi, kallzak ghalta ghae,
Sounsarant bhava mojea tum sodanch chotur jie,
Sorgar assa rochnar, fokot taka bie,
Tachea fattlean sounsarant eklich mae assa tika patie

Ch

Sounsarant kedinch mijeas korinakai,
Maink tuje visronakai, assosor ti bienakai,
Soirm dhairim soglim fott patienakai.

When Dayananda Bandodkar was misruling Goa by being an uneducated Chief Minister, to criticise his misrule, Remmie composed one beautiful song "Sankistao" the fame of it went far and wide as never happened before, few relevant verses of it I quote here below:

Eka ganvan eke Igorjen ekloch khuim padri also,
Eka Aitara to duent zalo mis sangong zaina tosso,
Igroz bhor lokh mis aikonk aslo to babdo mis sangtolo kosso,
Dekhun Sankistavank apoun haddun tanne sanglem ki lokak sermau sang mhonnon osso.

CH

Vigar boron na aiz mis aschena tachem,

Tachea kazarak kitem haddkoll assa zalear vigarak eun sangchem.

II

Utram aikon Padvigarachim, khuxeal zalo Sankistaum,
Mhonno laglo Sankistaum aslolo aiz thaun padri zalom mhonn aum,

Ani nettan ghelo, lokak poun bhielo, ani aikat koxo sanglo sermau

Ch

Ervam Budvaradis kazar Sampedr Sampaulachem,
Vigaran sanglam tumi kazarak eunchem,
Kiteak eta to Berestar, mhoineacho poilo Sunkrar, sogleani kumsar zaun kominhau geumchem..

The following verses indicates his prophetic thoughts in favour of Konkai:

Kolo ani Vanxel zaleant bhedi,
Xinvachea bhottak ghalunk mudi,
Dekhun poiat bhas mudra korunk uchamboll kedi,
Ami zannot teo koleancheo budi

CH

Aikat tumi bhas Konkani, bhitor rigon assa amchea rogtan,
Tika marunk, mudar korunk, ami mat konnak dhinvchena kontan,
Vavron nettan, sogle ekvottan, ami zuzoya sangatan,
Amchem boll dakoumya, Konknni bhas jikumya, hangach nhoi pun Delhi Parliamentan.

The following are the important verses of his well known song Ankvar Moriechem Dukh:

Sonvsarant patki ami torui axetam bhogunk sukh,
Sonxi nezo konnaichean matui pottak hea laglear bhuk,
Zo konn bhulta hea sonvsarak, fatt korun sorgak to adarta vhodli chukh,
Kiteak upkarta sounvsar, chintlear Ankvar Moriechem dukh

Ch

Putak tichea marit velo dongrar team judevani,
Tachea fatlean aponn bonvli roddon dukhamani,
Kitem boglem nam zait pollun putak toplolo tea baleani,
Sangat oslem dukh sonvsarant bhoglam khoimchea Maiyamni.

II
Kosolich chukh nastanam Jesuk kelo guneavkari,
Fafsili kudd tachi marun rogtamcheo keleo zori,
Sangat konn avoi sonxit dolleam mukar aple putak oslem korit tori,
Punn hem soglem dukh sonsun ravli eklich Ankwar Mori.

This was our genius Tiatrist the late Remmie J. Colaco.

Will anybody fill the void created by him? I feel never.

May his soul rest in peace and may God give courage to his family members to bear this great loss.

It is a loss for them, loss for us Tiatro lovers and a big loss for the Konkani Stage.

IS THE CHIEF MINISTER ALREADY LOSING HIS MARBLES?

By Aires Rodrigues

While in the Opposition Mr. Manohar Parrikar had vociferously demanded the removal of casinos. He had himself led agitations seeking the removal of Casinos. Now as Chief Minister he has gone back on his own principles by endorsing the gambling industry in his budget.

Despite strong local opposition to the Casinos, Mr. Manohar Parrikar has made the Casinos more accessible by lowering the entry fee from Rs 2000 to Rs. 500. His proposed legislation to ban Goans from gambling in the Casinos will not stand the test of law. The Chief Minister’s contention that only the rich will be permitted on passes to be issued by the Collector is absurd besides unenforceable, and will lead to further corruption. Removal of the Casinos is the only way out so that Goa can live. The Chief Minister also now controls the Corporation of City of Panaji, so he has no excuses to deliver what he had promised by bidding the Casinos a farewell.

Mr. Chief Minister we understand the political and other compulsions on the issue. But by acting tough you would also be fulfilling the wishes of the late Matanhy Saldanha who had, along with you consistently advocated the removal of Casinos. Mr. Manohar Parrikar would be well advised not to gamble on the people’s verdict at the recent polls. We are India’s second most literate State and will not be taken for a ride.

MAY HIS SPIRIT AND LEGACY LIVE FOREVER.

By: Freddy Fernandes.

May His Spirit And Legacy Live Forever Man thou are dust and unto dust thou shall return, were the words that were rung in the ears of most Catholics in Goa on the 22nd of February this year, the symbolism of Ash Wednesday reminds us that we are indeed mere insignificant mortals, alive today gone the next. We do not know nor can we foretell the longevity of our existence. But we can be sure of one thing, sooner or later we will get the “call” which we will not be able to re-route nor will we be allowed an extension, so we will have to go, we come with nothing and we go with nothing but when we go, we do leave behind a trail, a trail that will reflect our existence.

I am sure Mr Mathany Saldanha nor any one else must have thought that the significance of Ash Wednesday would be a reality four weeks into lent. On that fateful day and at that fateful time he was called and he had to leave, as everyone else he may have taken nothing with him but with the trail that he has left behind, he has left us a legacy, a bountiful reflection of his existence, like any of us a mere mortal he may have been but what he has left behind is his immortal legacy.

Since his sudden and untimely demise, platitudes have been pouring in from all sides far and near, from friends and foes alike. Someone has even called him the father of activism in Goa. Yes, he was a born activist, a sublime orator and ofcourse a crowd puller, he was blessed with charisma that could turn any lateral movement into a tsunami of mass participation and I had seen this blitzing effect during the language and SEZ movements. These have been two gold stars among the many on his never ending silver lined resume.

Goa has indeed lost a dedicated and honest fighter of the Goans causes. He excelled in his fight for the rights of besieged fishermen and for the protection of our fragile environment. He had a vision of a corruption free and a greener Goa. Now with his untimely demise, it’s only appropriate that his friends and colleagues in the Goa administration keep alive his vision and his dreams of a better and a greener Goa in sync with his legacy.

It is very disheartening to note that Goan politics has stooped so low that even before the mortal remains of beloved Mathany Saldanha were buried there was a buzz about candidates for the by-election and a few even sighed a sigh of relief fancying their chances. It does show our shallow or hollow reverence and lack of respect for a man who gave so much to Goa and Goans without expecting much in return. A by-election will surely be on the cards but as a mark of respect for the departed Soul, it should have been left till an appropriate time.

In the last few days going through the writings on Mathany Saldanha in the print and electronic media I have realized that it is indeed true that, the worth of a person of the caliber of Mathany Saldanha is only know after his death or can anyone explain why a good person like Mathany won an election in Goa for just the second time whereas imbeciles, crooks and scamsters have been winning elections for the last 15 to 30 or even more years ?

We all know that Mathany Saldanha was a good person but it is not enough to say he was good, what we need to do is, promote and elect good and honest people only then we will get good governance in return. I surely hope the many aspiring to be politicians will take honest and dedicated Mathany Saldanha as their role model and try to walk in his footsteps and work for the greater glory of Goa and Goans like he did. May his spirit and legacy live forever and may we Goans elect good and honest politicians in future.

OFFICE OF ADVOCATE GENERAL IS NO ORDINARY POSITION.

By Aires Rodrigues

The Advocate General of a State is a very high Constitutional authority appointed under Article 165 of our constitution. The Office of the Advocate General is an exalted one. He is the supreme law officer of the State Government. Alike some other constitutional posts the selection of the Advocate General must also be through a high level committee so that the best legal brain in the State is selected. The appointment should not be politically motivated as the Advocate General represents the entire State and should have the gumption to tell the government of any wrong or malafide decision it takes. He is expected to give invaluable legal guidance to the State Government in formulation of its policy and execution of its decisions. India has seen some controversial and a few outstanding AGs

On August 6, 1998 Orissa’s controversial Advocate General Indrajit Ray quit as the demand for his dismissal had been a major issue for all Opposition political parties in the state after having been charge sheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation in a molestation case.

In November 2004 the removal was sought of Kerala’s Advocate General, Ratna Singh, for his alleged links with the mafia. It was alleged that a lottery mafia, a sex mafia and a bail mafia were in operation at the Advocate General's office and there was a demand that there should be an independent inquiry into the activities of these mafia groups and the way they obstructed justice.

As India’s highest paid Advocate General the allegations against Subodh Kantak included the over billing in the Saleli case. As AG, Kantak had appeared in the High Court on 27th January 2006 in the Saleli case bail applications of 102 accused. Though it was a common argument for the batch of bail applications, Kantak raised a bill and was paid 102 times Rs. 8000 i.e. Rs. eight lakhs sixteen thousand. On the other charges of professional misconduct against him the less said the better. With two complaints pending against him before the Bar Council of Maharastra and Goa, anyone having some self-respect would have immediately put in his papers. It was only the ignominious defeat of the Congress government at the recent Assembly polls that forced Subodh Kantak’s exit.

Along side the controversial ones India has had some very outstanding Advocate Generals too. J M Thakore, Gujarat's advocate-general since 1960 has been the nation’s longest serving Advocate General. He worked under 27 state governments and 13 chief ministers, interspersed with five spells of President's rule. Mr. Thakore had the unique and remarkable distinction of holding the post of Advocate-General of Gujarat from the day the state was formed till his death, a period of over forty years. His fierce independence, dedication to the profession and unimpeachable conduct ensured that successive governments of widely differing political ideologies continued to allow him to hold the post of AG.

H.M. Seervai, India’s most outstanding lawyer, jurist and scholar in constitutional law was Advocate-General of Maharashtra for 17 years (1957 to 1974). Seervai’s total disconnection from politicians and politics was his greatest strength. He dedicatedly defended Government in Court but declined to defend government policies which he felt were against his convictions. Seervai maintained the high stature of his office because he was not a political appointee and did not consider himself one. Governments came and went but Seervai was not called upon to resign by the new government. For more than 50 years, Seervai was not only the country’s leading constitutional lawyer, but also a great scholar being the author of various works on Constitutional Law and is even today referred to as an authority in Courts. He achieved an exceptional stature and influence in public life by his inflexible integrity, strong courage and conviction. Seervai was quite unconcerned towards financial rewards in the profession and had contempt for lawyers who prided themselves in having a lucrative practice. Lucrative, according to him meant greed for gain. Once asked if it would be wrong to take high fees if clients were willing to pay them, Seervai retorted, “If a man was willing to be robbed would you be a thief?”

A Retired Judge of Madras High Court N. V. Balasubramaniam not long ago candidly remarked ‘It is easier to become a judge of a high court than an Advocate-General as it is difficult to get that post unless one is a qualified and a very meritorious person’. This sadly is not always the reality.

THE MATHANAY SALDANHA THAT I KNOW.

With deep grief I received the sad news of the sad and untimely demise of Mathanay Saldanha today at 4.30 AM in Kuwait from my friend in Goa and ex Kuwaitkar Elvino Rodrigues, thru SMS. It was unbelievable when I read the message but it was reality. It was a pity that he could not enjoy his ministerial position nor he could perform his ministerial duties from the portfolios he opted against the offer of Speakership which he declined.

I and Mathanay we both were colleagues in different movements, Konkani movement was the top on our list. As a staunch supporter of Konkani he always appreciated my move to unite Kuwaitkars in support of Novem Goem movement. During those days once when I was on vacation in Goa, Christopher Fonseca the then general secretary of "Novem Goem Prathisthan" introduced me to Mathanay Saldanha at Jesuit House in Panjim where both of them were staying. Much of my time in the evenings I used to spend with him and Fonseca and in our discussions he always talked in support of Goa and Goan causes thereby giving me an impression that he is a real Goa lover Goan.

He once in our discussion suggested to me to motivate the Kuwaitkars as I motivated for the Novem Goem movement and collect from every Goan Kuwaitkar One KD. With this amount he wanted to purchase Goan land and properties for Goans only. Likewise he had intention to do in other places in the Gulf and elsewhere. But for some reasons this idea of Mathanay Saldanha never moved ahead. He wanted to purchase Goan properties and hold the ownership of Goan land into the hands of Goans only instead of allowing outsiders to purchase our land and thereby surrender the ownership of our land to outsiders who are mushrooming now.

Being the leader of Ramponkar movement sometimes he used to ask me the details of their lives since he knew I was very close to this community in Candolim and Calangute. Sometimes he used to come to Candolim during my vacation and used to move on to the Candolim Beach to meet the people there. He had great ambition to alleviate the problems faced by this community. He gave excellent leadership to Ramponkar movement in Goa and they in turn had very high regard for him.

Later on we interacted with each other in the movement "Konkani Porjecho Avaz", our meeting place was at Azad Maidan Panjim from where we used to move in Rallies to Altinho at the residences of Ministers to make our voice heard to them and then return back at Azad Maidan for public meetings which he used to address among others. He was a very good orator capable of speaking on any topic related to Goa. It was pleasure to listen to his oratory especially fiery. I also attended as a special invitee from Kuwait, KPA’s Executive Body meetings at Keni Hotel where I noticed him speaking very boldly in support of KPA principles. Having shared the same dais with him in public meeting I always liked his oratory and as he confessed he in turn liked my oratory. I also moved with him for the meetings of Gomant Lokh Pokx some of whose members were exceptionally talented. Because of their high intellectual calibre and high political ideals I was more attracted to GLP.

When Kuwait was invaded by Iraq on 2nd August 1990, he was the first Goan in Goa to raise his voice loudly in support of the security of Goan community in Kuwait. Later on when we Kuwait returnees organised our movement on behalf of Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center in Goa, he was the first person to assure his total support for our movement in favour of the liberation of Kuwait.

His students who studied under him at Dom Bosco Panjim epeaking to me personally in Kuwait today showed lot of sorrows over the death of their loving teacher who taught them Physics, General Science and other subjects. His every ex student working in Kuwait has something or the other to tell in praise of his late teacher Mathanay Saldanha.

We both of us maintained a very good relationship and friendship till his defection to BJP when Parrikar plotted a coup to overthrow defector Sardinha’s government and take the reins of the government into his hands. Thru my writings and even personally I showed my disapproval to him of his move to join Parrikar without the consent of his voters who overthrew Mauwin Godinho in support of Mathanay Saldanha. As a Minister in Parrikar’s Cabinet I found in him lot of pride as if he came from outer planet. As a minister, he was not his original humble self Mathanay Saldanha, power had gone to his head. A man eating “Pao – Bhaji” with me at Panjim in a Restaurant near Jesuit House finally after becoming minister started acting with me like a Bhattkar to a Munddkar with artificial “Mijeas”.

My final dislike for him erupted when he remained a silent observer for Parrikar’s decree cancelling the official Good Friday Holiday for Christians. As a real son of his real Christian parents and himself as a practicing Catholic, if not, then at least as a secular minded man in the name of secularism which he preached openly, he should have stopped Parrikar from implementing this anti-Christian move. Otherwise, he should have resigned from Parrikar’s communal Cabinet as a mark of protest. This he failed to do and thus he showed his lust for power. From here the original Mathanay Saldanha was no more for me.

Now he is already dead but dead at a wrong time when he would be more productive, Goa will miss his absence. He had lot to do as a great lover of Goa for Goa and Goans but death snatched him from this planet. He was not a Chor” nor corrupt like many of the earlier and current politicians and ministers. It is something like irony that God took a decent man from Goan political arena but kept intact all the “Chor” and corrupt politicians who sucked the blood of Goans by extorting heavy bribes for the governmet services.

May his Soul Rest In Peace and May Heavenly Father give courage to his family to bear this colossal loss.

A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.

WELL DONE SACHIN TENDULKAR.

History has been created on Friday, 16th March 2012 on Bangladeshi soil by an Indian son whose elders 4 decades back sacrificed their precious lives to give birth to Bangladesh. It is just a coincidence that in a country brought into existence by India whose own celebrated son the great cricket star Sachin Tendulkar scored his 100th hundred and created a history in the cricketing world. This unique record should be kept written in the history book in golden letters.

On the very first day of his birth 39 years back, the elders in his family as I was told, noticed that this child while growing-up itself will turn out to be a wizard and this prophecy finally came to be true from the records he created in the sport called cricket. India gave birth to many wizards in different fields but in cricket Tendulkar stands tall not only in India but in the world. This record he created will last for a long time and I doubt it can be broken by any other cricketer in this century, It was a painstaking and laborious job acquired by Tendulkar by torturing his body on the field for about 3 decades.

For a sportsman to acquire a majestic feat he should also have luck and Tendulkar has it. It is not that of his type world has not seen earlier, in fact in the past world has produced finest batsmen, some of them much better than him. But unfortunately they were unlucky not to get opportunities as Tendulkar got. Earlier there were no IPL, no 50 0vers and no T20 as they are during Tendulkar era. More the tournaments and more the frequency more the opportunities to score more centuries and that’s where Tendulkar is lucky.

A God fearing man with very good character, Tendulkar maintained a very good discipline on the field, in victory he was happy and in loss he showed no resentment and anger thru disapproval, always ungrudgingly accepting “Out” decision by the referee. In scoring centuries he did not jumped in the air with pride as many did but looked up in the sky in humility and praised God. Even acquiring the greatest feat of scoring 100th 100 he showed a low profile gesture without any show of pride.

BEFITTING HIS UNIQUE ACHIEVEMENT AND THE HONOUR HE BROUGHT TO THE NATION BY SCORING one 100 HUNDREDS, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA TO COMMEMORATE THIS FEAT MUST RELEASE A POSTAL STAMP DEPICTING HIM SCORING HIS 100TH 100.

When Brazilian Pele scored his 1000th professional goal in Brazil, Brazilian government issued a special commemorative Postal Stamp in honour of this extraordinary feat which the then president of Brazil said “brought honour not only to Pele personally but more than that to the nation Brazil”. For Pele 2 professional matches evaded him of scoring this goal but finally in the third match he succeeded in scoring this memorable 1000th goal while Tendulkar had to wait for one year to achieve his feat of scoring one hundredth century.

What Pele did in soccer Tendulkar did in cricket. While Pele with his right foot could make the ball do anything he wanted except talk, Tendulkar could make the cricket ball do anything by holding the cricket bat in his right hand. While one skill of Pele, that is, “play the ball off an opponent’s leg” was done by Pele only with perfectness so also Tendulkar performed his speciality of “Effortless Wristy Flick Through Square Leg” as no other cricketer did.

Will such sportsmen come again in our midst? God alone knows.

On behalf of myself and on behalf of all my likeminded friends and colleagues I say “WELL DONE” Sachin Tendulkar.

"NACHONK EINA ZALEAR ANGONN KHUIM VANKDDEM".

According to the latest news appearing in the local media in Goa, Churchill Alemao is accusing Goa Church and Its Priests for the defeat of all the 4 Alemaos in the just concluded election in Goa. There is a saying in Konkani which says “Nachonk Eina Zalear Angonn Khuim Vankddem ”. This is exactly what has happened to Churchill Alemao. There is another saying in Konkani which says “Khorzota khuimsor and Khorpita Khuimsor?” The reason for the defeat of Alemaos which was so humiliating, was one thing and its cause is something else. Blaming the Church and priests is an act of frustration and weakness and as such it is a sacrilege.

According to what I have noticed including at Old Goa, in my village Church and other Churches, nowhere priests advised the congregations in the Churches not to vote for Congress Party and its candidates. Nowhere in Goa, had priests advised the congregations to vote for BJP. Nowhere in Navelim constituency priests told the faithfuls in the Churches not to vote for Churchill Alemao. Neither priests told in Benaulim, Cuncolim and Sanguem to vote against Valanka, Joaquim and Yuri respectively. In their advices to the faithfuls priests never mentioned the names of any party or any candidate. What priests openly told the faithfuls congregated in the Churches was that “TO VOTE FOR THE GOOD CANDIDATES AND NOT TO THE CORRUPT ONES. Also priests told “DO NOT VOTE FOR THE SAME OLD CORRUPT FACES AND DO NOT SELL YOUR VOTES BECAUSE SELLING OF VOTES IS A SIN”.

I strongly support this move of the Goa Church in advising the faithfuls to vote rightly and not to sell their votes. Church is duty bound to advise the faithfuls what is right and what is wrong and to prevent the faithfuls from accepting bribes in exchange of votes which is a sin. I strongly support the priests in advising the people not to vote for the same old corrupt faces because these same old corrupt faces mastered the art of doing corruption and if elected they would finish Goa from this planet thru corruption. Electing corrupt persons is creating sins and thru these sins they will spread sins all over Goa. Priests’ job is to prevent the faithfuls from committing sins because committing of sins leads you to the Hell which is what priests are bound to prevent. Hence, the preaching by the priests against corrupt candidates which I fully support.

In the total fall of the mighty Alemaos there was a strong hand of the mighty God otherwise it was very difficult for their disastrous fall from the hands of the voters. As a believer in God, Churchill and other Alemaos must accept this defeat gracefully as an act of God and stop unnecessary blaming the Church and priests. Revenge and anger due to frustration will lead them to nowhere. God punish only the wrong doers and voters reject only the corrupt candidates.

As a matter of fact the grumbling and accusing defeated candidates must know that they are not born to rule infinitely like Kings. India is not a Monarchy for the same Royal family members to rule continuously. Indian democracy gives opportunity to every citizen to contest the election and come up in public life. Some of the defeated Congress candidates are prone to accuse others for their defeat. For their defeat they must accuse their own ill deeds which their voters observed and accordingly rejected them. Unfortunately the family members and relatives of some defeated candidates are guilty of accepting the ill deeds of the defeated candidates blindly instead of correcting them, if they were really good they would advise the defeated persons to stop committing crimes against Goa and Goans. But they did not do that, on the contrary they supported the ill doers till the disastrous result.

In the words of bollywood super star Amitabachan, “we must know one thing in life that we are controlled and guided by one supernatural power, for this power we must pay our obeisance otherwise we have to face the consequences as I faced". All the defeated candidates must take note of this. They faced the humiliating defeat because in their looting and corruption they feared none and cared none, neither the supernatural power nor God’s power. For such persons electoral defeat is the best medicine. Nobody should think that he or she got devince right to get elected. Nobody should take the voters for granted. Nobody should think the voters are dutybound to vote for him or her only. Voters are free to make their own choice and this time they did it rightly. The principle of Cngress of Winability with the help of money power finally gone to the dogs as people in Goa this time voted not for money but for the individuals who are not corrupt or less corrupt.

The late Dayananda Bandodkar was boasting of his power to win the elections very easily since he was loved by his MGP voters. On the strenght of their support he boasted once before his death saying "there is no power on earth to dislodge me, not even "Saddiekan" from Delhi", meaning Indira Gandhi. Finally what happened while playing Ping Pong at Gymkhana Campal Panjim? He was not only dislodged from the Goa Legislative Assembly but was totally dislodged from this planet only by one suppernatural power under the control of God. For this reason too much of pride and "dadageri" is not good. All the defeated candidates must ponder over this fearfully if they want to see their chidren and grand children coming up.

It will be very difficult for the defeated earlier kings to face the people now. Most of the time they lived the life of Maharajas by looting the poor people and sucking the blood of poor Goans. During the last so many years they lived the life of sin, arrogance and pride as Ministers and MLA’s. Now they lost their power means they are stripped of their clothes and they will be like nude creatures. They will have lot of ill-gotten wealth but it will not satisfy them. Ultimately money is not everything. Now nobody will salute them as earlier; no pilot cars with sirens; no “funkott” residential bungalows at Panjim Altinho; no bribe givers. Their status will be like that of any Ladru and Pedru. What a pitiable fall !! At least now they should learn the lesson.

DISASTER AVERTED BY REJECTING ALEMAOS.

DISASTER AVERTED AS GOANS DISCARD CHURCHILL ALEMAO AND HIS DAUGHTER.

By Menino Fernandes. (Reproduced from Niz Goemkar)

They had it all coming; they knew it but decided to defy both God and the Goans at the same time. Churchill pictured himself kissing the Bible when his deeds were that of the devil. The downfall was imminent and the Goans showed it by discarding both the father and daughter.

Ever since their downfall they must be cursing God and Goans together. Both the duo father and daughter used to show backline to the jobseekers and now they have been shown the back door by the very jobseekers and their parents.

What a disaster it would have been had Churchill and his daughter Valanka been elected? The biggest disaster in the history of Goa would have befallen on her in the form of Valanka and Churchill. Thirteen days Churchill was the Chief Minister of Goa, first of its kind a CM without even basic qualification of matriculation..

Churchill was very haughty and showed his foolishness when he attacked a very loving, strong hearted and a clean priest based at Davorlim Zori Vaddo Chapel Rev. Fr. Protasio Soares Colaco for nothing at all. No one will deny this priest’s integrity and I myself have spent my childhood in the arms of this loving priest. An article on this will be appearing soon on Niz Goenkar in details.

Churchill’s history tells us what he was and what he has become. Churchill has got a very shrews system in place that went undetected for quite sometime. He has the habit of using people by bluffing them and getting them on the streets just to satisfy his treasury. His shrewd evil mind had seen that the Goans were vulnerable to some soft issues and he used the Goans to meet his ends.

He took up the lead in the fight for Konkani but ultimately ended up with accepting Devnagiri as the script for mother tongue Konkani. Later on he took up the Mopa airport cause only to betray it later as soon as he got money in crores to sign for Mopa airport which he did quietly and stepped aside. Since Dabolim was at the centre for all the Goans, Churchill could have easily kept up the fight for it against Mopa Airport.

But his sole aim was for making money and not out of sympathy for the people. It was a trick from his foxy brain to make hay while the sun shines.

Sometime back there was a job vacancy in PWD and a girl approached Churchill Alemao for getting the Job. This stupid PWD minister had a very arrogant answer ready for her. He told her bluntly “If you have rupees fifteen lakh come forward else go to the back line there are others waiting to give that amount for the vacancy”. This is Churchill Alemao the looter of Goa and Goans. A man who demands money in lakhs for the jobs which are otherwise free of charge based on merit of the candidate.

Again Churchill tried to destroy the house of Rodrigues a son of Goa to hand over the property to Shanti Constructions a non Goan organisation.

A man who can never be trusted even for a second has at last been shown the back door by the very people whom he tried to sideline and pushed them to the back of the lines for seeking jobs.

In came his daughter Valanka as the chief secretary of her father. Valanka has nothing but foul language on her mouth which can be surely proved by one of her supporters namely Jaju Fernandes the tiatrist. The language of Valanka is so bad that she outdoes her father in all aspects.

As Navelim one man had the following story to tell. He wanted some licence for some business (he requested not to disclose this part including his name) and so he approached Valanka Alemao for a favour. When his turn came to see this lady for his work. She asked him how much he could give her monetarily. He told her rupees three lakhs. At this Valanka told him to go and put up a cigarette “Gaddo” in one corner + two powerful badwords which was disgusting to hear even leave alone typing those words here

During her tenure as her father’s secretary Valanka’s main demand from every contractor struggling to get contracts was for 20 percent of the amount. If not they were just driven away with bad mannered language which included foul language too.

She wanted to be the CM of Goa according to the rumours of chit chat around in Benaulim and Varca (could either be true or false) were they (all 4 of them) elected. Imagine what would have been the state of Goa and Goans had she been a chief minister of Goa. Can we Goans ever imagine such a CM?

But the wise people of Benaulim, Navelim, Curchorem and Sanguem at last decided to teach a lesson to this family. Goans became aware of their sinister plans and the rest is history as seen on 3rd March 2012. Who knows what the Alemao clan would have done were they elected? The guess is yours my dear Goenkars. You did well in kicking out this family.

God bless all those Goans who voted for the change.

MISSION ZERO TOLERANCE.

Although the sun has set on the election “fiesta” in Goa, the euphoriaover the defeat of the corrupt Congress is still overflowing inabundance. I certainly do not hold it against the people for going“gaga” over Parrikar and the BJP even though the acrimonious defeat ofthe Congress has certainly transcend into what looks to be anoverwhelming victory for Parrikar and the BJP and victory it is butunfortunately the battle is not been won yet, as there is a lot to bedone and I dare say it will be cake walk or even a walk in the parkfor Parrikar and his young and not so young brigade.

The supporters are still saluting the winners through the news papersand rallies and the candidates in turn salute the voters, even thosethat lost are thanking their bereaved supporters for standing by themthrough thick and thin, some have even promised to continue theirdynamic social work and come back strongly for another inning, it maysound audacious but roaches and bugs do tend to surprise us time andagain, may they all finally manage to apply the dynamics of dynamismin reality.

Goans are happy that the Congress has been smothered into the ground,as we were certainly looking for a change even though some may havetheir reservations and presumptions about Parrikar, but he deserves asecond chance, after ten years of corruption orgy that has left Goadesecrated and battered by Congress renegades. Parrikar has got hissecond chance now and he better not screw it up because Goans haveshown what they are willing to do, if pushed against the wall. So tostart with let’s give him his 100 days before we start judging him andhis intensions, for his own sake and for the sake of Goa just hope hecan get us out of this mess. Even though some Goans say that Goa isalready a lost cause, however this timely defeat of the Congress couldbe the much needed life support to the brain dead but technicallystill alive comatose, who is unknowingly still fighting for its lifeand the situation could yet be reversed.

With the first session of the freshly elected Assembly to convene injust a few days time, a five men army has been selected by Parrikar tohelp him launch his mission “zero tolerance” in Goa but even beforethe first mission has taken off, Parrikar’s choice of the crew membersfor the launch has been questioned, there are a lot of speculationsthat the security plates scamster, in the last Goa mission “corruptionfull throttle” will be made the Minister of the most lucrative and onethe most sought after Ministry, namely the PWD, as a result cynicshave already started questioning Parrikar’s tolerance levels. I surehope Parrikar will put Sudin Dhavalikar in place before he startsacting like the man from Varca. He is the one person that Parrikarwill have to watch closely.

Except for the Sidin Dhavalikar issue, Parrikar seems to have startedon the right foot and on a right note and I only hope, like a goodring master Parrikar can hold the Marciam tiger on a leash because theBJP on its own have a good healthy majority with a few independents tospare, and we can only hope that Parrikar’s mission “zero tolerance”,which is our only hope at present, will not backfire and turn into a“mission impossible” and that too a “ghost protocol” lacking insubstance as well as direction, or a mission lost in oblivion. Mr.Manohar Parrikar, Goans with bated breath await for the success ofmission “zero tolerance”. All the best !

CURSE OF CONGRESS POLITICIANS.

With the mighty fall of the mighty Congress Party in the just concluded election in Goa came the mighty fall of the mighty curse which was destroying Goa for such a long period. First time in the history of post Portuguese regime period in Goa voters have shown their real calibre by dumping Congress into the deep sea from where many of the congressmen will never come back to fight the next election. Many of the congressmen in Goa are selfish embracing congress only for their own selfish benefits. They are defectors and some habitual defectors, for such people you call corrupt politicians because by following the trend of defection they have corrupted themselves and the whole political system without any shame. For such corrupt politicians heavy defeat as it happened now is the right medicine and this time Goan voters have given all the corrupt defectors a very good medicine.

The corrupt Goan politicians are responsible to spoil the minds of the new generation by tempting them to involve in politics not to serve the society but only to make money by looting and raping Goa and Goans. The loot of the corrupt politicians is so high that with the looted money they can even live in the moon but God will never give them and their family members peace to enjoy this loot. These corrupt politicians have no principle for this reason they jumped like frogs from one party to another thru defection thereby robbing the trust of the voters as if the voters are their Mundkars and they Battkars.

The decline of Congress in Goa has already been started and if its fate is to be revived then Congress High Command must introduce a Master Plan of the type ‘Kamraj Plan’. Under this plan introduced in late fifties by Congress Party President Mr. Kamraj and approved by the Congress High Command in Delhi, all the senior Congressmen should refrain from contesting elections and instead do the grassroots level work in their respective states to gain the confidece of the peple and to develop the party to revive the party’s hope of winning the future elections. But will such a Plan work in Goa? I doubt very much because majority of the Congressmen in Goa are corrupt, looters and bribe takers. For this reason they are called corrupt and such corrupt Congressmen will do anything to contest the electios because they are not genuine Congressmen having no love for congress and it principles.

Prataph Sing Raoji Rane was originally MGP; his son adopted Congressman; Ravi Naik originally MGP; Narvenkar originally MGP; Churchill Alemao congressman of convenience having the title of habitual defector; Mauwin Godingo defector; Sardinha also defector. Likewise many congressmen are defectors and as such they will never work for the development of the congress party and will never be faithful to the congress party and its ideals. For such corrupt party, Parrikar alone will be the cure.

Public life is such that any person involving himself or herself in public life he or she is exposed to the public accolades if he or she does good otherwise he or she is exposed to public critism. In case he or she cannot accept public criticsm he or she should not involve in public life. Politics of election is one type of public life where politicians are totally torn into pieces if they are found to involve in corruption, taking bribe is the worst type of corruption. And is there any politician in Goa who is not indulging in takng bribes? The money accepted as Bribe is the biggest curse and those politicians who force the people especially the poor to pay bribe are cursed by the God. Not only them but even their children, all other family members, relatives, friends and supprters who directly or indiiretly enjoy the benefit of this loot.

In Goa the government jobs are sold to the hihgest bidder, the quotes are even going to 50 lakhs of rupees for the lucrative jobs. Who can in Goa among the poor afford this hefty amount to bribe the Ministers to get government jobs? The entire rot of selling government jobs was started with the formation of PDF government and it carried forward ruthlessly till the last election. Parrikar government must make amend to this system of keeping the government jobs on sale to the highest bidders since Parrikar has already promised Goans for implementing the policy of Zero tolerance for corruption.

CONGRESS DEFEAT - A DEVINE PUNISHMENT.

It is a big blessing that Cong., in Goa was not only defeated but massacred in the recently concluded election. By liquidating Cong., God has saved Goa from liquidation. The pride and arrogance of Congressmen in Goa was such that if they were elected now they would make the people open their mouths and shamelessly piss into their mouths, so much they would do. Especially the longtimers in the Assembly would do this act. They forgot that they belong to this planet because power has corrupted them making them immune to the feelings of the ordinary Goans. In this humiliating defeat of Cong., there was heavy hand of God that played the whole role of punishing Congress party.

People voted BJP to power not because they loved BJP but as a revenge against pride and arrogance of Congressmen mainly those holding portfolios. They lived and behaved like Emperor Nero. They wielded power over people in Goa in such a way that they could mar or make anyone with ease. They behaved not as earthly creatures but like coming from the outer planet. By being in ruling party either rightly or thru defection they acquired habit of living like super human beings. I don’t know how they will live now and face the people as unknown entities.

From this defeat I don’t think any of them will recover in the next election. By the time the next election comes some of the heavyweights will lose their sanity and acquire physical deformity as a punishment from God for acting like "Dadas" during their peak season as MLAs and as Montris. When Narvenkar came to know that he is losing while counting the votes, he said "I am leaving now for home where I will go to sleep and return only if there is a change in my result in my favour’. Narvenkar gone to sleep from where he will not come back because he will sleep like Rip Van Winkle for twenty years. While others will have politically "SASNNACHI NID" because God will never allow them to come back from the political oblivion they are deported now by their voters. They and their family members never expected them to face such a disaster but God made this to happen because God alone knew that how bad they will behave if they were re-elected.

Where are all the social workers from Cong. Party gone now? If they were real social workers they would get elected but they were rejected by their voters because they were not real social workers. Who is the real social worker? Mahatma Ghandi said ‘India does not need political workers but social workers to elevate the poor people’. Unfortunately, the current social workers are looting the poor in the name of social work instead of helping the poor to elevate their standard. A real social worker does not demand bribe for doing public service. A real social worker is humble and not proud and arrogant. A real social worker is not doing "goondagiri" but behave decently. A real social worker is not taking protection in political clout of the political figures especially of his/her father, wife/husband or brother but take protection in good work. And a real political worker does not embark in politics but confine himself or herself in doing only the social work. The moment the social worker enters into a political field he or she ceases to be a genuine social worker.

Congress in Goa during the last so many years as ruling party has sucked the blood of the poor Goans. Can anyone imagina demanding of 5 lakhs of rupees as bribe for an ordinary job of a Peon in the government department? Which poor person will bring such a big amount to feed the rascal Ministers? And on top of it all these Congressmen and Cong. ministers barked like dogs saying they were serving the poor Goans. In fact they were not serving poor Goans but they were liquidating poor Goans. Parrikar Government must investigate which government servant was forced to dole out lakhs of rupees as bribe to which Minister thru his PA or son or daughter to get him or her the government job under Congress "Serkar".

IF PARRIKAR IS REAL SON OF HIS REAL FATHER....

In 1977 Indians brought the greatest silent revolution in the country not thru the power of Bullet but thru the power of Ballot by voting out the mighty Congress Party of the mighty Indira Gandhi and her harsh Emergency rule and bringing in Janata Party to power. It was like a fall of Empire in India under Dictator Indira Ghandhi of the stature of Hitler and Saddam Hussein.

During the 19 months of Emergency rule in India, Indira Ghandhi and her ministers and MP's had total control on Indians not only bodily but also soully. Such was the attrocious power Indira Ghandi and her Congress party wielded on Indians from North to South and from East to West. People under her emergency rule were living in fear to utter a word agaisnt her Emergency or against her or her colleagues or her Congress Party. But the moment the time came for election in Janury 1977, the entire population in India Kicked out not only her but also the overwhelming majority of her MP's. She and her Congress Party was very sure to win that election and one of her Cabinet colleagues a Bengali Shri Siddartha Shankar Ray even made one statemet in Calcutta against opposition that came together under Jeyprakash Narain, saying "Let us (Congress) come back to power, we will shoot you (later on after the Cong. defeat, like a coward he denied it).

The result of the recent Goa election and resounding defeat for Congress have lot of similarities between Cong. defeat in 1977 and the latest Cong. defeat in Goa. The way in 1977 Cong. wickets fell especially of all their stalwarts mainly the corrupt, bribe takers, sexologists and looters, so also in Goa this time Cong. wickets fell one after the other headed by the wickets of the corrupt Alemaos. The fall of Indira Cong. in 1977 was due to the revolt against Emrgency Rule by the Indian voters especialy from the North India, so also the fall of Cong. in Goa was the result of the revolt against Cong. especially in the South, for doing rampant corruption mainly by the Alemaos, Narvenkars, Ravi Naiks, Neris, Agnels and others.

People in Candolim were so afraid of Agnel that they were even afraid to take his name. It is these people who silently took their revenge and sent Agnel into political Limbo from where he will never come back. So also the people in Varca, Navelim, Cuncollim and Benaulim were afraid to talk openly against Aleamos beause these persons had money and muscle power to silence the voice of dissence. In Avertano Furtado Churchill met with his Waterloo exactly the way Agnel met with his Waterloo in Michael Lobo. Similarly others from Congress camp faced their political deaths. I feel their political death is so strong that even on Judgement Day they will not be resurrected because there is no place for them either in Hell or in Heaven. Their sins while as Ministers and MLA's were not ordinary Sins but more than Sacrileges. In their respective localities they controlled the locals not only physically but even soully and weak and poor people suffered their wrath silently. These politicians never realised that "THE PUNISHMENT OF GOD COMES LAME FOOTED".

NOW LET US WATCH AND SEE THESE DEFEATED POLITICIANS HOW THEY BEHAVE IN LIFE. OUT OF POWER THEY WILL BE LIKE FISH OUT OF WATER. Dont be surprised, some of them may even commit suicide like what Karmali did from Bombay when Dayananda Bandodkar denied him the election ticket to contest the second election. Let us see which Policemen guard them now, their wives their servants, their concubines and even their Dogs and Cats. Let us see now where they stay, whether at Panjim Altinho or elsewhere. At the cost of Tax Payers money they were living like Maharajas. Because of their poitical power they were committing the Sin of NARVENKARISM. Now let us see how they fulfill their craze for illicit Sex forced on inocent and financially weak females.

Like Siddartha Shakar Ray some Chamchas of Churcill Alemao used threathenic language against me saying "let our Churchillbab come back to power, we will teach Veronica a good lesson". I pity you my friends. To teach Veronica a good lesson for expressing his views fearlessly against corrupt politicians you all have to Sell Your Salable Wives or your Concubines because some of you are cheating your wives by sleeping with Concubines.

The victory of BJP was realised only because of the strong support Goan Christians gave to BJP and this has happened only when Parrikar accepted his past mistakes and of his BJP committed against Goan Christians and thereby assuring Christians that such mistakes will not be repeated. By supporting BJP the Goan Christianns brightened the image of otherwise communal BJP not only in Goa but also in other parts of Indiia.

Hence, now is the time for BJP and especially for Parrikar NOT TO ACT COMMUNAL AND PAROCHIAL but to fulfill all his promises he made to the voters and to show his gratitude to Goan Christians by supporting their causes, their needs and to enforce real justice in Goa. Parrikar will do this ONLY IF HE IS THE REAL SON OF HIS REAL FATHER.

PARRIKAR, IT IS TIME NOW TO FULFILL THE PROMISES YOU MADE.

IT’S NOW TIME TO FULLFILL THE PROMISES MADE

By Aires Rodrigues

The people of Goa have spoken out loudly, clearly and adroitly. They have dethroned in style and fury a government which was utterly dysfunctional and embroiled in rampant corruption. Mr. Manohar Parrikar and the BJP have over the last few weeks have promised a lot and the people of Goa will want every part of that promise fulfilled and will accept no excuses. Political and alliance compulsions should be no excuse to violate the law and allow corruption to perpetuate. With a crystal clear mandate of 21, the BJP will have no excuses.

Appointing an honest, competent and knowledgeable Advocate General is the first decision the new government will have to take. It may not have been his election promise but Mr. Manohar Parrikar should definitely consider slashing the exorbitant fees currently being paid to the Advocate General and bring it on par with other states.

A clean, transparent and corrupt free administration should see the hallmark of the new government. There should be no political interference or manipulation of the bureaucracy. As mandated by the Supreme Court of India the police should be given the freedom to function independently. Mr. Manohar Parrikar should allow no illegality and govern by the rule book. He would be wise to crack the whip first on some of his party MLA’s who are involved in blatant irregularities.

Mr. Manohar Parrikar has promised that Goa would be freed from even a shred of garbage within three months. This has to be one of the priorities of the new government. A war against illegal mining has to be waged as promised. Just because some of his new elected MLA’s have direct or indirect interests in illegal mining it should not hinder Mr. Manohar Parrikar from acting tough. The government would also have to expedite the removal of what remains of the River Princess at Candolim before the ensuing monsoons. The promises of new bridges, better roads and an end to parking woes in the cities have to be fulfilled

We were also assured that government corporations would be headed by only professionals with expertise instead of rehabilitating politicians who have lost the elections or political aspirants who were declined party tickets. Infact the government should seriously considered winding up unnecessary corporations some of which were created only to accommodate politicians with a position and perks at public expense. It will be interesting to see how Mr. Parrikar lives up to one of his promises to lower the petrol prices by Rs 11.50. While in the opposition Mr. Parrikar had been harping on the removal of the off shore casinos. It needs to be seen how he gambles with this issue now.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and his Ministers should ensure that there are no brokers or agents hovering around them. Centres of power should not be used to manage and lobby for illegalities.

The people of Goa have a lot of expectations from this government which has also promised an effective Lokayukta within 100 days. If Manohar Parrikar can live upto his promises and assurances by providing a corruption free and a secular government he may be a hero. Otherwise he may turn out to be yet another villain on Goa’s political landscape and find himself at the receiving end of public fury.

Let us hope Mr. Manohar Parrikar will act as a true statesman and rise over petty party politics and secure the interest of every Goan. He had sought a mandate which the Goans have given him thereby entrusting him with the State. He should govern with a wide vision and definitely ensure that he doesn’t commit the mistakes of the past while ensuring that caste and communal politics never raises its ugly head again.

That it will have a very weak opposition in the Legislative Assembly should come as no solace to the Manohar Parrikar government. Alert citizens armed with the Right to Information Act and other laws will expose and fight against any and every illegality that this government may dare to commit.

Mr. Manohar Parrikar, let us get on with the job to save what remains of Goa. No time can be wasted on celebrations. A badly battered and bruised Goa has been grieving and in a state of mourning for too long.

R.I.P. ALEMAOS - POLITICALLY.

Well done Navelkars, well done Cuncollkars, well done Benaulkars and well done Sanguemkars.

Well done all the Saxttikars who voted out corrupt Congress candidates in the recently concluded eletion.

Navelkars you deserve highest accolades for throwing out Churchill Alemao who has been polluting political life of Goa since his involvement in the illegally formation of PDF government. Navelkars who elected Avertano Furtado are real sons and real daughters of their real fathers, they proved to be the legitimate children of their parents of Goa lover parents. They proved to be the real descendents of the great Goan parliamentarian Dr. Francis Luis Gomes who played clean politics and earned good name for Goa and Goans. By representing Navelim, Churchill Alemao corrupted the fair image of Dr. Franciso Luis Gomes.

Churchill Alemao as a human being is a very nice man, very symphatetic to the sufferings of the poor but political greed for power and money destroyed his original self. At moment I feel guilty of supporting him in Kuwait during his maiden visit to this country in late eighties whence he gained lot of prominence to embark in Goan politics. Not only me but my entire group supported him because of his enormous work he did for the cause of Konkani even by riskink his life, during Konkani Language agitation in mid eighties. By playing dirty political games for his selfish ends he hurt the feelings of the genuine Goa lover Goans.

From no where he made his daughter Valanka a social worker as if she is Mother Theresa, to get her inducted into politics just like earlier Indira Gandhi from nowhere brought her son Rajiv Gandhi into politics and made him a hero but finally he became a big zero. Now Sonia Gandhi is doing the same for her son Rahul Gandhi who is a big ZERO of Indian politics. Congress lost miserably in UP because of him. He should have committed suicide instead of shamelessly owning the responsibility for the Congress debacle in the recently concluded election.

Leave aside Churchill inducting his daughter into politics, his brother Joaquim also brought his son Yuri from nowhere by dubbing him as a dynamic social worker and implanted him into Sanguem constituency where as a foreigner like his father in Cuncollim was defeated miserably. Alemaos were rejected by their voters because they were not the sons of the constituencies they contested. Cunkollkars, Sanguemkars and Navelkars refused to accept them in their fold as their own citizens. Instead they elected their own candidates who were the real citizens of their constituencies and not ‘baddeache boil’. It is nice to note that people in Goa are become assertive of their rights and this attitude made the people to defeat Alemaos especially Churchill who was having a false opinion that he can win from anywhere in Goa. "Churchillbab, tum chintai titlem na tem". Remember what Shakesphere in Hamlet says , "there are more things in Heaven than what we dreamt".

Alemaos have fooled the people since a long time now and finally they became the victims of Devine Punishment from where thru Devine Intercession only they can regain their power back. But for this THEY WILL HAVE TO DO A LOT OF PENANCE AND RETURN THE ILL-GOTTEN WEALTH TO THE POOR AS JACKEUS DID IN JERUSALEM ON THE ADVICE OF JESUS CHRIST.

Otherwise politically, R.I.P. ALEMAOS.

IN GOA, THE DEFEAT OF CORRUPT CONGRESS IS THE VICTORY OF THE CHURCH.

From Kuwait I salute Goa Church for campaigning so vociferously daily during the Masses almost in all the Churches, Old Goa Bom Jesus Basilica and the adjoining Churches deserve highest compliments for impressing upon the faithfuls to elect the good candidates and not the same old corrupt faces. This message of Goa Church finally gone into the heads of Goan Catholics who elected the right candidates by defeating some of the corrupt hevyweights of Congress who were acting like Emperor Neros. That the message of the Church reached correctly to the Catholics in Goa was proved by the defeat of the Congress heavyweights in predominantly Catholic constituencies, namely Calangute, Navelim, Velim, Aldona, Cortalim and many other constituencies.

Even though the BJP is dubbed as anti-Christian yet voting against corrupt candidates was preferred by the Christians. And voting against corrupt Congress candidates was the need of the hour to save Goa from further disaster. This was what exactly Goan voters did by reducing the margin of Congress to just a pitiable 9 Seats compared to the previous 16. Congrees must eat a humble pie now, its topmost stalwarts including Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Pranab Mukerji, Sheila Dikxit all from Delhi by coming to Goa produced no positive result for the Congress in Goa.

Congress is hated in Goa from the time of ouster of Portuguese from Goa, for this reason even during Nehru's time Goans kicked out Congress. That Goans later on embraced Congress was not because of the love of Congress but due to the necessity. Current Congress in Goa is the group of prostitutes and defectors, they are not faithful to Congress principle and on the other side Congress Party is the party of corrupt people for this reason it got kicked not only in Goa but also elesewher.

Never in the past in Goa our Church was so vocal in advising the faithfuls not to vote for the same corrupt old faces. In my village Candolim during the Mass priests were advising regularly the faithfuls not to elect the same old corrupt faces and this was one reason for the people to vote against Agnelo Fernades - two time MLA from Calangute constituency.

Our Church acted exactly the way the Church of Philippines acted a quarter of a century back to defeat the regime of dictator Ferdinand Marcos there.

The major credit for the defeat of Congress in this election should go to Goa Church and Its priests who vehemently defended some decency and morality in electing the candidates.

Other than the Church, the youth of Goa also played a very constructive role in defeating some of the most corrupt candidates. So also the Press in Goa mainly the Herald with its magnificent and bold editorials to liquidate the corrupt candidates.

Finally witih all my humility, I also played my role however small it may be thru my writings in goa.kranti on the need of destroying the "DADAS" of Goan corrupt politics.

GOANS HAVE VOTED FOR A CHANGE.

Goans Have Voted For A Change

I will win from any constituency in Goa was the pompous avowal of Churchill Alemao not too long ago, as though Goa was his footstool and Goans were his slaves. Arrogance certainly has no place in society and South Goans have shown their displeasure for the high and might Alemao family raj. The two senior Alemaos were veteran senior politicians who wielded much muscle and money power to have their way at will, in Goan politics for a long time, with them around the CM’s chair was never secure, it always rocked violently. The two junior Alemaos who were thrust in to the quagmire of Goan politics, projected as dynamic social workers whose dynamism was dynamically lost in the eyes of Goans and now become mere devastated mortals.

South Goans have spoken and the verdict is there for everyone to see, the message is loud and clear, we just cannot be taken for granted. In the most recent past Oscar Fernandes and his contemporaries where flaunting the winnability and family raj formula from roof tops, now truth has prevailed and hype has disintegrated into an unhealthy organic residue.

Congress has had its worse ever defeat since it set foot in Goa and it is certainly the high handedness of its political leaders both in Goa and Delhi that is responsible for this debacle. It is said that “you could even fool some people all the time but not all the people all the time”. The arrogance of the Congress has indeed caught up with them. There are just a few Congress survivors in South Goa, which was a Congress bastion for a number of decades.

The Alemaos have been trashed 4-0 and it could well have been 11-0 if there were that many in the fray. The ruble of the Alemao domain does not point to the end of family raj in Goa, as there some remnants still going strong and some still hanging around. Yes it can be termed as the end of the Alemaos but not the end of family raj. The Madkaikars, the Dhavikars, the Monserrates and the Ranes are still tangent reminders that the family raj is still up and kicking in Goa.

There is no doubt that Goans have voted for a change and as expected by most, though not fully welcome by some, the BJP is all set to form the next government in Goa, my congratulations and best wishes to Parrikar and the BJP for winning the Goa Assembly election. We, as humans must learn from our own mistakes as well as those of the others. I sure hope Parrikar and Co. will not venture or transgress into the same old dangerous unhealthy territory that they had ventured into the last time round, nor the one that the Congress took liberty to venture into.

Goans have given a mandate, it may be pro BJP or it may be anti Congress but mandate none the less and I sure hope Goa and Goans will not have to go through the same appalling ignominy as the one we have just passed through. My message to Parrikar is, from hereon Goa is yours to loose and do not serve it to the Congress on a platter, like they did. Prove that you are worthy of the faith that Goans have put in you because by the next election Churchill could well be a double graduate and Babush Monserrate a Phd.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY DOES NOT END WITH VOTING.

Our Responsibility Does Not End With Voting.

The hectic activity of the last two months has all of a sudden ceased. Banners, placards, leaflets and booklets waving maniacs have withdrawn. No more men and women displaying, artificial anxiety of our wellbeing and simplicity of mind and heart, with folded hands standing at our doorstep. No more fake personalities promising us the moon, no, not at least for the next five years. Peace and calm at last or should I say good riddance to the bad rubbish that was floating in abundance ?

The results of the election may be declared in a day’s time but it the response of the electorate that has taken everyone by surprise, more than 80% cast their votes, history has been created, not even the historic Opinion Poll gathered such momentum. We can only guess the reason behind this massive human movement towards the Polling Booths. Goans have moved, the people of Goa have given their verdict and waiting for the judgment.

Everyone is trying to analyze the effect of the massive momentum, while members of each party though overtly concerned, they just say with little conviction that the massive turnout was for their benefit. What has actually happened, we will only know on the 6th March. As I analyze it there could be only two factors for the massive participation. First, everyone would like to believe that this tsunami was indeed clamoring for a change. As Goans in Goa and across the globe, had been lamenting about the unprecedented tide of corruption and nepotism, that’s been flowing throughout the entire length and breadth of Goa which has hampered the constructive development of Goa but has led to the degradation of our environment and our ecology. Second, it could also be a movement where the parents and students have spoken about the freedom that they should have in choosing the medium of instruction. We would be fools if we did not take this factor into account, even though it is not as important as the first.

Does our duty end having cast our vote in great numbers ? Does our responsibility end with the casting of our valuable votes ? Will the judgment of our votes, end our interest in the welfare of Goa ? No my dear Goans, this is not the end of our fight, it is just the beginning. For far too long we have sat in our armchairs in the comforts of our front porches after casting our vote, thinking it’s all done with and it is now the moral responsibility of the elected representatives to do the needful. There is no doubt, that it is their responsibility but does our responsibility end there or do we have to make sure that those elected, do what they are suppose to do, rather than do whatsoever they please ?

Casting of the votes ends nothing. Like us Christians, we go to Church, listen to the word of God and receive the Lord with reverence, but does Christianity end there ? The Bible tells us that we have to live what we acquired in Church. So too after casting our vote we have to make sure that it was not in vain. We have to constantly be vigilant about what our elected representatives are up to and if and when they waver from their promises and their mission, we should be there to point out to them in no uncertain terms because it is our future and the future of our children that will depend on what they do and what they fail to do.

Irrespective of the outcome of the election results and the judgment that will be delivered on the 6th March, we will have to continue our fight for the betterment of Goa and Goans with vigor and determination. For the next five years let us make sure that our elected representatives fulfill their pre election promises and hold them responsible and accountable for what they do and don’t do.

NO CHURCHES WILL BE DEMOLISHED IN KUWAIT

In Kuwait these days there is much gloom on Christians because they are afraid that their Churches may go for demolition. But in reality, it is not correct yet there was a reason for Christians to get a distress call when one Kuwaiti Member of Parliament made an unwarranted statement in this regard. According to the available report one Islamist MP Osama Al Monawer called for the removal of the existing Christian Churches in Kuwait. Then immediately he clarified his statement by sayinng "what he meant was not the removal of the existing Churches in Kuwait but issuance of new permits for the constructin of new Churches in Kuwait".

There are about 5 lakh expatriate Christians in Kuwait from different nationalities comprising innumerable denominations and out of this number around 200 are Kuwaitis. Catholics is one of the largest Christian communities in Kuwait but according to the internal circle since last two years their number is decreasing at a faster pace as they are deserting Catholicsm and embracing other Christian denominations.

There are many Churches in Kuwait but prominent among them are Catholiic Churches located in Kuwait City, Ahmadi, Salmiya and Abbasiya. Still these many Churches are not sufficient enough for the fast growing number of expatriate Catholics coming from Philippines, India, Middle Eastern Arab countries and from the West as well. The same situation is faced by the other Non-Catholic denominations.

According to the Bishop of Kuwait His Lordship Bishop Camillo Ballin in response to the first statement of the Islamist MP Al Monawer, " this is not according to the Kuwaiti mentality, Kuwaiti tradition and it spoils the name of Kuwait in the world unjustly". Then the Bishop Ballin continued saying "Kuwait is a tolerant country. Such statements spoils the name of Kuwait in the world because a statement like that, even though changed the next day, provoked fire in the world".

Further Bishop Ballin added saying "This is not in the honour of Kuwait. I was in Cairo when this happened and I received many phone calls and emails from Egypt, Italy and France with questions of whether it was true that Kuwait is going to destroy all the Churches. This is the message that was understood by the people. It seems that the MP changed his mind the next day. But this is not in his honour to change his mind. He made a mistake the first day; he made a mistake the second day".

Rev. Emmanuel Ghareb, patron of the National Evangelical Church in Kuwwait says that the Kuwaiti Law states the right to freedom of belief and the establishment of religion.

According to Islam, a Muslim has to believe in Christianity since Christianity is derived from one of the three Holy books as recognised by Islam. Islam accepts all three religions as they are originated by the three Prophets of God (Peace Be Upon Them). Islam keeps Christianity on high pedestal and Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) in his instructions adviced the Muslim to treat Christians fairly well. Said Prophet (PBUH), "if you open for Egypt, treat the Christian Copts well because they are good soldiers". And talking to the 4 Calips including Abu Bakr, Prophet (PBUH) advised them after conquering their land to protect the Churches of Christians.

In this regard the record of Kuwait is excellent allowing Christians to build their Churches and freedom for prayers. The Ahmadi Church is the oldest Church in Kuwait while the Kuwait City Cathedral is the second oldest Church in Kuwait. Under the rule of Sabah Family there is lot of freedom of worship in Kuwait not only for Christians but also for other religious entities. The leniency imparted by the ruling Sabah Family for the expartiates to perform their prayers and religious rites is really laudable.

Since time immemorial Christians and Muslims lived together peacefully for the good of human society. When Kuwait was invaded by Iraq, it was the unity of Christians and Muslims that helped to wage a war on Iraq to liberate Kuwait. It was the unity of Christians and Muslims that liberated Kuwait. The Christian soldiers from USA, UK, France and other Christian Western countries joined together with the Muslims from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries and finally gave a fitting response to Saddam Hussein's Iraq. It was the victory of unity between Muslims and Christians that liberated Kuwait on 26th February in 1991.

Expatriate Christians are residing in Kuwait only temporarily and during this temporary period they need spirituall peace and solace to reach to Heaven. These they can achieve only thru their own respective religions. Human beings should be religious, the link betwwen men and God can be better established thru the places of worship, for this reason places of worship are a must, be they of any religion. All those who believe in God must facilitate the establishment of places of worship for the people to perform their religious rites finally to achieve their Hevenly goal.
