TIATRO “GHORABO”

On 28th of
last month, I saw the above named Tiatro at Kala Academy Open Air hall, Panjim,
at 7.00 PM directed by Jude Michael Gracias with the participation of most of
the artistes of Prince Jacob’s troupe while Prince Jacob himself playing the
main comedy role with Cedrick Pinto. The others who played prominent roles were
Jose, Reema Pereira, Valencia and evergreen veteran Diana. The attendance for
this Tiatro was very good and the performance was very well
by every artiste.

This Tiatro was first
time staged about 50 years back by the mighty script writer the late Nelson
Afonso with the participation of the then gigantic artistes like Conception, Anthony
D’souza, Greg, Sabina and others. The
role played by Conception then as of the father now played very well by the
veteran senior artiste Pegado and the role played by then of Sabina was unique.

However, even though those
mighty matchless artistes of those days played their roles majestically well
yet the current ones under the direction of Mr. Gracias also did well which was
appreciated by the audience.

In the Side show songs which
were all old ones as per the rule, Reema Pereira, Jose, Benny, Valencia, Cedrick excelled in their solos, duets and trios, so also
Chitra excelled extremely well in her charming solo with her charming style and
charming presentation. Incidentally, she is the daughter-in-law of the late Nelson
Afonso.

Before the start of the
Tiatro, all the artistes paid floral
respect to the late script writer and on behalf of the Nelson Afonso’s
family, Chitra presented a memento to the director of this Tiatro, Jude Michael Gracias who played an excellent
role in the Play. He also did a very good role by beautifully rendering his
songs namely duet with Reema whose performance was superb and duo with Benny.

The Stage setting was
done well and the musical score was nicely provided by all the musicians.
