RESPONSE TO "DEFEAT BJP's DR. MESQUITA.
I am also in the same spirit of rage in killing two birds in one shot...but the spirit is willing but the flesh is too weak !!! In fact, all the electorate knows both (& all) candidates barter system of scraching of each other back every time when they show the force in musical chairs at Porvorim Ammassed Wealth Club i.e. Assembly Hall and make the poorest of the poor to cry once they sat in the cushion chair and leave the poor 2fight & give the crumble to eat. And to withhold your positive views to crush these 2 demons of Natsakurs we the very own Goans people/electorate are the fools in 1st place to choose them, and when there is no choice to waste our highest privilege of VOTE , I may humbly proceed in my mind & urge people to vote for the Congress Party in collectively to keep in mind that people power can kill the very MaLAandras if we want any time.
Best of luck who ever win and save the motherland of GOA for better posterity for Goans in first place and probably no sooner we will see how these two BOILS (oxen)will share the same field to graze mouth to mouth or glass to glass (cheering) and smacking the people mandate. can any one smell that.
Furthermore, as suggested by you we does not want to see the PORRKARIA govt. of BJP by no means becoz we had worst manipulation under that regime. May God save us in future. Good Luck to the best one.

DEFEAT BJP's DR. WILFRED MESQUITA.
Within the next 48 hours South Goa will go for the Lokh Sabah polls where Congress candidate Francisco Sardinha will fight against BJP nominee Dr. Wilfred Mesquita. Both are equally political rascals, both being defectors and party changers earlier for their personal gains. Sardinha was the most scandalous involving in marks scandal to favour his niece and from then onwards he matured into biggest disgraceful politician when he sided with Parrikar of BJP to form his Government. From here BJP of Parrikar received a foothold in Goan politics and true to his and BJP’s principle, Parrikar kicked Sardinha and formed BJP Government first time in Goa. Sardinha should be treated as the greatest rascal of Goan politics and posterity should never forgive him for introducing BJP Government in Goa. If BJP and Parrikar’s band took such a firm grip in Goan politics then Sardinha alone and Sardinha only was responsible.
Our writers should write and keep record of what disgrace he did in Goa for the future generation to know. Folk tales should be composed to know that Sardinha was the mastermind in introducing communal BJP Government first time in Goa. Folk song composers should compose Mandos and Dulpods to record the betrayal of Goan Christians by Sardinha. In history it should be recorded that Christian Sardinha was the sole Goan Christian politician who helped induction of fanatic Hindu communalist BJP Government of Hindu fundamentalist Parrikar in Goa. By paving the way for Parrikar’s BJP to form its first BJP Government in Goa, Christian and Catholic Sardinha imitated traitor Judas by betraying not only Goan Christians but also the entire Christian community in the world.
Major life of this parliament is already over and there is no great issue involved in this election. By electing Sardinha we will not get heaven. By getting into parliament Sardinha will not create wonders. Earlier he did nothing and now too he will do nothing. Resuming Dhirio is his slogan. Idiot Sardinha. Dhirio is not an important subject for Goa and Goans. It is a local subject for local Government to decide. Parliament is to decide bigger topics but to think of bigger topics chicken headed Sardinha is blind. It is a pity that Congress is having such idiots on its roll. Congress is become the party of pimps and prostitutes. These prostitutes today sleep with one party and the next day come back to Congress and sleep with Congress party. Sardinha is one such Congress prostitute among other similar prostitutes. Congress party is a big pimp to allow such prostitutes in its roll.
Inspite of all the sins of Sardinha and Congress party I still feel that Dr. Mesquita of BJP should not be given a single vote by the Christian voters in particular and secular voters in general. At this juncture to support BJP thru Dr. Mesquita is like committing suicide especially for the Christian community. The worst enemy of Chrstians and other minorities is BJP and in Goa, Parrikar who came on Goan political stage as a slave but gradually turned into a master. He is the crook of first grade. First he trapped Mauwin Godinho but later on to get his support he kept silence over the sins of Godinho. Some of our politicians are so rascals that they will even sell their wives, daughters and mothers too to gain political mileage for them.
Those who say that Parrikar is an able administrator; I tell them “to hell with Parrikar” because he is a selfish politician and selfish administrator. Just because he is a smart IIT that does not mean we should adore him. Such degree holders are not genius, they are smart in their particular fields and that also to cheat the populace. We don’t want Parrikar and his BJP to rule Goa and Goan politics. To support Dr. Mesquita and elect BJP means fortifying BJP in the parliament to demolish Christians and other minorities in India. To elect Dr. Mesquita means getting curses from the minorities. To elect Dr. Mesquita means destroying Christians, Christian festivals, Christian holidays and Christianity in Goa. Electing Dr. Mesquita means supporting Judas who will do nothing but sell Jesus Christ for 30 Coins to amass wealth. The equivalent of BJP is anti-minorities. The equivalent of Parrikar is anti-Christians.
If Christians in South Goa of Mormugao constituency are real Christians then they will never vote for Dr. Mesquita. If Christians are real sons and real daughters of their real Christian fathers then they will remain true to their Christian faith and refrain from voting for Dr. Mesquita. If Goa Church is really supporting Christianity in Goa then it will openly preach from the Church to defeat Dr. Mesquita of BJP. By keeping silence at this juncture means killing ourselves thru our own hands. If we are real Christians then we should act as bold and express our dislike for the evils of BJP. By opposing BJP and Dr. Mesquita we will do justice for the truth and for Christianity. We should not be afraid of fighting for our rights. Only the cowards are afraid of fighting for their rights. The true Christian colours of our Church in Goa and its priests and nuns will be exposed now.

SUPPORT DALAI LAMA'S TIBET.
With deep pleasure last week I watched the ceremony at US capitol Building where US President George W. Bush personally handed the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama the most prestigious Congressional Gold Medal. This medal is a great reward not only for Dalai Lama and his Tibetan people but also for a person like me who supports the movement of Dalai Lama for getting rid of Beijing imposed autocratic rule in Tibet. This medal is a great reward for the people all around the world including me who support religious freedom in Tibet for the Tibetans. Dalai Lama is asking not heaven from Beijing but the necessary freedom for him and his people to practice Bhuddism as per Dalai Lama's instructions which Beijing refuses. China refuses to accept the religious authority of Dalai Lama and wants its authority over the appointment of Bhuddist Head like what used to happen in Goa during Portuguese era. The Patriarch of Goa was appointed by the Vatican on the advice and approval of Portugal following the jurisdiction of Padroada. Dalai Lama is not asking independence from Beijing but just an autonomy for Tibet and that also Beijing denies. In this medal there is a victory for the cause of Dalai Lama and a defeat for the rule of Beijing in Tibet for the suppression it practices against
Tibetans.
Like Tel Aviv’s principle of creating greater Israel by annexing Arab lands thru force, Beijing is also trying to create a greater Communist China by forcibly annexing lands of others as it did for Tibet thereby displacing the locals from their original homeland. Jews have also done the same way for the poor and weak Palestinian Arabs in Israel. China currently is lording over thousands of acres of Indian land whcih it forcibly grabbed by imposing its war on India in 1962 and still claiming some parts from North India. By denying them the full freedom to practice their own Buddhist religion in Tibet, Beijing is killing the human urge of Tibetans for their spiritualism. I condemn the harsh treatment Beijing is meting out to Dalai Lama and his people. I admire Americans in general and American Congress in particular for recognizing the services of Dalai Lama to attain freedom for him and his people from the repression and suppression of Communist China. Moreover, I immensely admire President Bush for ignoring Beijing’s threats and personally attending the ceremony of Medal presenting to Dalai Lama. This act of President Bush is a great rebuke for Beijing and its harsh policies against Dalai Lama and his cause.
By presenting this gold medal to Dalai Lama, American Congress bared the ruthlessness of Communist China and world was made more educated on the cause of Tibet. Dalai Lama the Nobel Laureate is a peace loving man working for peaceful world. Every peace loving person in this world must support his cause. Shortly the next Olympics Games will be held in Beijing where not only the sportspersons from all around the world will congregate there but also the world as a whole will witness this great and majestic event. Sports persons are on record to highlight the plight of the suffering people all around the world. Sports persons are known to raise the issue of human rights abuses in many countries. The great Boxer Mohammed Ali propounded the cause of ending the American involvement in Vietnam. Dr. Socrates the great foot-baller captain of Brazil soccer team in 1982 exposed the ills of dictatorship in his own country by wearing the Headband in support of democracy. Likewise, there were innumerable incidents at regional and international levels where sportsmen used their celebrity status to highlight the plight of suffering people in their and other countries. By doing this sportsmen have succeeded where others have failed. When the great and world renowned personality the philosopher cum mathemathecian Prof. Betrand Russel and his team of equally world renowned personalities failed in their mission to awaken the world conscience against American involvement in Vietnam, Prof. Betrand Russel finally approached the celebrity status of the then sportsman, boxing world champion Muhammed Ali and finally the required result has been produced. When sportsman Mohammed Ali acted, not only Americans got awakened but the entire world too and everyone mounted pressure on American administration to end its involvement in Vietnam.
Prof. Betrand Russel formed a committe of great and world renownwed scientists and intellectuals to conducted the trial of American involvement in Vietnam - Nuremburg type of trial - but only having moral sanction. And finally the trial passed a verdict against Americans saying as Prof. Russel quoted to Mohammed Ali to encourage him to fight against American involvement in Vietnam "In the history of humanity, there was not a single war which was more barbaric than this war in Vietnam. It has to be stopped. Your voice is more audible to the entire planet. I support your campaign of fighting against US's policy of fighting an unnecessary war in Vietnam. Go ahead and fight against America".
The forthcoming Olympics event will be an appropriate venue for the freedom and human rights loving sports persons to raise the issue of Tibet in Beijing during their participation in their respective items. Beijing must be put into shame for denying liberty not only to Tibetans but also to its own people. In the fall of Soviet Russia, Chinese communism which is nothing but a crude form of dictatorship lost its impact and gradually it will go the way Soviet Russia has gone. It is only a question of time and that time is fast approaching. Communism is only a temporary solution for the economic ills of any society. Once the point of saturation is reached communism will have no place in this world. Communism as propounded by Karl Marx is just an economic system but in Soviet Russia and its satellites including Beijing communism was turned into brute dictatorial form of Government. The major ill effect of communism is the suppression of human rights and denying human beings full liberty to develop fully including spiritually. Beijing is doing the same for its people and to Tibetans. Olympians participating in the forthcoming games in Beijing should raise their voice in support of Tibet and the cause of Dalai Lama.

Prem Kumar -- the legend who revolutionized the tiatr stage
It was late evening of 12th October 2007 that the sad news of legendary konkani stage artist Prem Kumar having passed away in Mumbai hit Goan soil and tiatr lovers in particular like a bolt from the sky. Telephones were ringing across the State conveying the sad news and short messages were flying across thousands of mobiles from North to South. With the sad demise of Prem Kumar the curtain has come down on a glorious career of a visionary artiste and perfectionist, spanning nearly 6 decades on the konkani stage.
Prem Kumar was born in Chandor, Goa on 8th September 1929, and was baptized as Peter D’Costa. It was much later when he had a stint with the Bollywood in Mumbai that he was compelled to take Indian sounding name of ‘Prem Kumar’. Beginning with Dhirubhai Desai’s ‘Unchi Haveli’, Prem Kumar went on to do several minor roles in other Bollywood productions. But, it was his love for his mother tongue and the Konkani stage that he gave up his affair with the Hindi film fraternity and jumped headlong into the Konkani theatre. Hindi film industry’s loss was obviously the gain of Konkani tiatr. This was indeed a turning point for the development of the konknai stage to a different level of professional excellence. It was his entry onto the konkani stage that set the wheels of revolution in motion.
REVOLUTIONARY
He stepped onto to the Konkani stage at a tender age of 13 and the first tiatr he penned was ‘Mhozo Put’. This was indeed the beginning of a fairy tale for the Konkani stage which down the years later saw the wizardry of this passionate man at work in many of his future productions. He had single handedly given a new dimension to the art called ‘tiatr’. Without exaggeration one can safely say that Prem Kumar single handedly revolutionized the Konkani stage with the rich experience he had gained in the Hindi film industry. It was his burning desire to improve upon and to develop the technicalities in tiatr that prompted him to bring in a lot of courages innovations and changes. The introduction of high intensity technical gadgetry including projectors, audio visuals, ‘sliding and revolving stage’ lighting and mind boggling stage settings, complimented with appropriate sound effects too, to the Konkani stage, were the highlights of Prem Kumar’s tiatrs. With every new production coming under his banner only brought in further improvements to the stage and one could then truly say that with the bench marks set by him, the konkani stage was maturing to the level of theatres produced in other Indian languages.
However, Prem Kumar’s specialty did not end only with his technical aspect in the tiatrs, but, he was a playwright with a broad vision and intense knowledge of the subject on which he generally based the theme of his play. The story of the tiatrs he produced had a lot of depth and high literary standard with flowery and poetic dialogue writing being his forte and in-born quality. To put it more succinctly Prem Kumar was a complete professional actor, director and playwright.
MEMORABLE WORKS
‘Vavraddi, Mortikar, Kakut, Peleache Vostuchi Axea Korumnaie, Ordhi Bakri, Sopon, Abdul Narain D’Souza, Dukh, Kakut etc are some of his memorable hits that brought out the best in Prem Kumar. He is one such playwright and director who had the courage of his convictions to give his audience something that his heart desired and not what the people expected or desired. By his conviction and belief in himself, he took his fans and admirers along with him, rather than going along with the audience for the sake of monetary gains. He was one among the very handful of Konkani stage artists for whom the love of art came first and commercial interests took a back seat. He spent a fortune on the lavish sets he presented in his tiatrs, but, in the bargain did not amass a fortune during his lifetime contribution to the Konkani stage. He was so passionate about the quality of his productions and standard of his plays that I think he had very little time to even think about what would be his monetary gain at the end of it all. This he must have realized in the evening of his life when he could no longer muster the physical courage to stage his shows. Most of his plots in the plays reflected the very essence of Goa, its culture, traditions, its people and its soil. As an established playwright he also ventured into Konkani films, and ‘Boglant’ a highly successful black and white film was his first and only venture.
NOT RECOGNISED
It is sad but true, that this man who did so much for Goa, Goans, language and its culture did not find any favour with the Goa Government, and the honour of being counted among the recipients of the Goa State Cultural Award eluded him till the time of his death. Going down memory lane I sadly recall Goa’s one and only Melody King the late Alfred Rose too shared the same fate during his life time, till the then BJP Government had posthumously honoured him with the Goa State Cultural Award.
To this effect one cannot forget but truly appreciate the magnanimous and befitting gesture of the ‘Dalgado Konknni Akademi’ which conferred the third ‘Dalgado Puroskar 2007’ on this legendary artist on 8th May 2007 at an impressive function at the Kala Academy Black Box. The Dalgado Award 2007 carried a cheque of Rs. 25,000/-, a memento and a scroll of Honour. On receiving the Award, a visibly choked and emotional Prem Kumar had said, “ I gave up my lucrative career in Hindi films, with the desire to serve the konkani stage and work for its development. I am thankful to all tiatr lovers who supported me. All my productions were successful bringing me fame and fortune. But my passion for the stage was such, that I ploughed back everything I got from it, only to see its development and growth. I always wanted to do something for the konkani stage by sharing my rich experience and knowledge from the film industry. I have done it. Today I am mentally and emotionally rich. I appeal to you to work dedicatedly for the language and development of the Konkani stage.”
Prem Kumar with the writer Daniel de Souza
Truly indeed, his success as a playwright did not permit him to translate his mental and emotional richness into monetary wealth, and that was his biggest drawback. Prem Kumar’s rich and deep throated baritone voice saying the legendary introductory verse “Dusmankaieche Kantte, zaun asat odruxttache fantte, Borem Korxi borem Bhogxi, …….. ……Xegunnache Rajvottke, tuka ugtte asat sovostkaieche dharvontte ” at the start of his shows has been silenced for good, while he has returned back to his Creator. But, his legend will live on for generations, his achievements will be written in letters of gold when one day modern day tiatr’s history is written, but above all his works will continue to inspire many for many more years to come.
The million dollar question however, is will the ‘Aam Aadmi’ Government led by art lover Chief Minister, Digamber Kamat, honour Konkani tiatr’s ‘Superman and legend’ Prem Kumar posthumously with the Goa State Cultural Award ??
Zacarias continues with Lobo’s music legacy
The Desterro Ward in the jurisdiction of Vasco da Gama situated near the Our Lady of Desterro Church, has produced several well known personalities in the field of drama, music, sports, politics and the like. Some of the States best footballers had their first affair with football on the football ground near the Busy Bee High School at Desterro. My memorable earlier years of stay in Vasco da Gama after I took up a job at MPT and shifted here from Bardez, were spent in this small hamlet full of warm and talented people. The Lobo family which lives here in Desterro for many generations is well known all over for their contribution to music as well as to Konkani tiatrs. I am pleased to profile in this issue one of the members of the Lobo family from Desterro in Vasco da Gama who has rendered service to Goan music and the Konkani stage. He is none other than the 57 year old Zacarias Lobo, son of music Maestro the late Baptist and Anunciacao Lobo.
Zacarias Lobo began his tryst with music, singing and solfegio at a young age of 16 under the tutelage of the then well known music Maestro Manuel Rodrigues alias ‘Vhoddlo Bab’. He was a renowned violinist of that time. Learning the rudiments of violin under the guidance of his teacher ‘Vhoddlo Bab’ for nearly 4 years, young Zacharias horned his skill with the guidance of his father Baptist Lobo who incidentally was also a professional musician and had his own brass band under the name of ‘St. Andrew’s Orchestra’. Zacarias’ two other paternal uncles viz., Santan Lobo and Richard Lobo also formed an integral part of this group, which was more of a family band at that time. Young Zacharias would in the beginning accompany his father Baptist to sing and play the violin at the litanies in and around Vasco.
The reason why he preferred to take music lessons from another music teacher despite having a professional musician father at home was solely because he says “ I was very much afraid and terrified of my father, for there was no room for mistakes, for he was too fast and advanced. Being scared of him I thought I would be more comfortable learning the basics of music with some other teacher”. But once he got the basics right he had no hesitation in seeking guidance from his own father.
Having learnt to play the violin at a young age he was gaining more confidence with every exposure, and soon had a great desire to learn the Clarinet. Putting aside a little of his earnings then, he saved a sufficient amount of Rs. 300/- to purchase a second hand Clarinet from one musician Domnic Caetan from Merces. This was around the early seventies and the opportunities to join a band mostly comprising of blowing instruments was much higher then. His urge to learn the clarinet as early as he could took him all the way to Maestro Macedonio in Majorda, an exponent of Clarinet. Incidentally Macedonio was the band leader of the then famous beat group ‘Louis & his Melodians’ in South Goa.
Having already learned the Solfegio and violin, picking up the nuances of Clarinet was not a too difficult task for enthusiastic Zacarias. After having gained sufficient knowledge in blowing and confident of himself, Zacarias soon found an opening to play Clarinet in a professional group of Maestro Gregorio D’Gama from Vasco. And going back in time Zacarias recalled “ My first assignment to play Clarinet in a professional band with Maestro Gama was on my home turf, at a feast mass celebration at Our Lady of Desterro Chapel in Vasco. (It was a Chapel then and later elevated to a church in the nineties). This was the beginning of many more regular professional assignments that followed immediately. Do not forget, in the seventies, eighties and even mid nineties brass bands were in high demand at ‘Salves’, feasts, and as well as weddings. However, gradually the beat groups took over from us. ”
Bitten badly by the music bug, he dreamt nothing but music and more music. His passion with music did not end after learning the Clarinet. Zacarias’ ambitions grew much higher and bigger with passing years as he gained more skill and experience playing in professional group. Zacarias developed an affinity for the Saxophone and thus to satisfy his desire he purchased a Saxophone for a sum of Rs. 650/-. But, he did not have to go to other music teachers to learn this new instrument. Improvising on his already acquired skill, he learnt to play the Saxophone all on his own.
By now Zacarias was a musician to reckon with and had already made an impact on the blowing instrument scene. As such he had no difficulty in finding a free slot in the band ‘6 Fighters’ from Sanguem lead by Jack de Sanguem to play the Saxophone. He continued in this group for 3 years. ‘This group brought me more fame and popularity together with expereince’ recalls Zacarias.
After a three year stint playing with ‘6 fighters’ Lobo switched his fidelity to another group called ‘Mark 6’ from Cortalim, which was based much near to his home. Zacarias’ association with this group continued for almost 2 decades, before the other beat groups began making an impact on the music scene in Goa and blowing instruments were gradually fading into oblivion. Zacarias had by now stabilized himself permanently playing the Tenor Saxophone.
With the Brass bands facing a stiff competition from the conventional beat groups, and people preferring to engage beat groups Zacarias knew the time was up to switch over roles and the play field too. It was at this time he focused his eyes on the every growing ‘tiatr music’ segment, that was growing steadily. It was in the year 1995 that he first jumped into the tiatr bandwagon. His first assignment as a Music Maestro for tiatr was playwright F.D’Cunha’s ‘Sambhall’ followed by two more tiatrs ‘Gaie’ and ‘Jivit’ of the same director.
He has also provided the musical score for Sharon Mazarello’s ‘Cheddo’ and Cajetan de Curtorim’s ‘Maim tem amchem noxib’ Pal Soares’ ‘Mhaka Soeg Diat’, Maxcy Pereira’s ‘Hanv tuzo’ ‘Tumkam Ugddas ietolo’ and ‘Uzvadd Palloilo’. He continues with Maxcy Pereira for the ensuing tiatr season too.
Zacarias Lobo has also produced one konkani audio album ‘Zurica’ in the year 1994 with the lyrics and musical score for ten tracks being penned by him. As a professional musician he has played for several other audio albums including devotional hymns. Speaking about the love of music amongst the younger generation he retorts “ the present day generation seeks everything ready made and easy. They do not want to take pains and any trouble. I have even volunteered to teach music and solfegio free, but there are hardly any takers. My son who is 22 years plays the organ, but he has not joined any professional beat group. Neither does he show any inclination to learn the blowing instruments.” Mr. Lobo has provided music for a numerous musical programmes on the Goa Doordarshan and has in the past also did several programmes for the Mumbai Doordarshan. He is very passionate about his Saxophone and says he will play it professionally as long as he can. His one wish however, is to produce a video album of songs and jokes, and he has already started working on the same.
Having heard his fist Konkani audio album ‘Zurica’ whose musical score and orchestration is simply astounding, I have no doubt his next album will be of a much higher standard taking Konkani music to even greater heights. I wish him good luck.

Oh what a farm…..
down-hill in no hurry,
the gushing crystal waters
and the ripples of the tiny waves.
The occasional chirping of the
Pink-billed bulbul
from the bushes around
The distant knock of the woodpecker
pecking on a tree bark
The palm trees
areca, and coconut, swaying
majestically to the cool
soothing breeze of midday
blowing across my face.
The serene and peaceful environment
in the lap of mother nature
pervaded with a gentle odour
of the spices grown around.
Oh, what an exquisite experience !
As I slowly sip
exotic lemon-grass tea
like a peg of brandy.
The Sahakari Spice Farm !
I am bowled by your charm
as well as virgin natural beauty
Behold! I shall be back soon someday
To indulge my passion
in natures unpolluted open arms.

ALEMAO-IZATION OF GOAN POLITICS.
Poor Valanka the loving daughter of Churchill Alemao has missed the race just by an inch. She was overtaken by Sardinha who is sure to reach into Lokh Sabah for the second time. By missing the boat Churchill Alemao lost the opportunity to Alemao-ize the Goan politics. I had opportunities twice to meet the young daughter of Churchill during my vacations in Goa, once when I was invited with my wife by Churchill for his grand Silver Wedding Anniversary and once when I went to pay a courtesy visit to Churchill at his residence. Not only Valanka but all the daughters of Churchill whom I met at their place were nice, loving and sweet. According to many, Valanka is more loving among all. Compared to heavy weight politicians Valanka is just a raw politician in Goa moving under the protection of her heavyweight politician father Churchill whose nasty ways of changing political parties like bush coats has created an ill effect on the chances of Valanka.
We need young and educated blood in Goan politics but surely not political novices. Valanka should contribute a lot in the right direction in Goa at political level and must prove to all that she is not only the daughter of Churchill Alemao but surely she is much better than her father as far as political uprightness is concerned. To gain a solid base in Goan politics she must reject her father’s qualities of creating unnecessary disturbances in the smooth running of Goan political life. She must also know that Goa is not just Varca and Navelim and Mormugao constituency. Goa is much beyond that. She must get acceptance of all and to get that acceptance she must reject her father’s policies of changing political parties to suit his conveniences and also she must oppose her father’s policies of changing his decisions every now and again. It is not enough to have a Law Degree to contest the Lokh Saba election. Law degree sometimes can be converted into a show degree. Law degree is not a criteria to get admission into Lokh Sabah.
To get into Lokh Sabah and Vidhan Sabah one has to do lot of good work for the people. A true leader is not the one who is foisted on the people by muscle power, money power or family power but the one who by his or her sheer ingenuity gain acceptance from the populace. Currently, because of her father’s mischief in Goan politics people in Goa are having negative feelings on Alemaos. Before entering into Parliament or Goa State Legislative Assembly, let Valanka change the behaviour of her father which harms Goa and because of this her chances of gaining easy access in Goan politics is hampered. Valanka is a novice in Gan politics but it is her father who plays the whole game of pushing her. Currently due to his dirty political games the image of Churchill Alemao is damaged which surely damaged the image of Valanka as well. For Valanka to gain mileage in Goan politics she must correct her father and this is a big challenge in front of her. Unless she overcomes this challenge, further Alemao-ization of Goan politics should not be allowed especially by the Sasttikars who have unique distinction of saving Goa at the crucial time. These same Saxttikars must not fall prey to Churchill’s political gimmicks anymore.
The greatest enemy of Goa after MGP is BJP which is filled with communalism. Parrikar is number one communalist. Every true Goan who hates communalism in Goa must reject BJP in the forthcoming election by defeating Dr. Wilfred Mesquita. This is the only opportunity for Goans to show BJP that we Goans are rejecting their communal policies. This is the right chance for us, the true Goans, thru our Saxttikar voters to tell Parrikar that we don’t trust him anymore. BJP is a crook party and by pushing Dr. Mesquita BJP is fooling the Chrstians in Goa. BJP is already known to be anti-Christian. Parrikar has already proved how anti-Christian he and his BJP party was when he was ruling Goa with the help of disgraceful Christian MLA’s. Those Christians who will vote for BJP in the coming election for the South Goa Parliamentary Seat they will prove themselves nothing but Judases who finally will commit suicide like traitor Judas, if they vote for Dr. Mesquita.
By making Dr. Mesquita to contest the coming election on their behalf BJP is trying to give Lollipop to the Christians. Christians should now show their power of unity by defeating Dr. Mesquita. It is time now for all the legitimate Christian sons and daughters of their legitimate Christian fathers to reject BJP in this election. Dr. Mesquita is not a genuine Christian nor genuine lover of Christians and because of this he is giving his affiliation to anti-Christian BJP. The priests in all the Churches in South Goa must show their boldness in telling all the Christian voters to reject BJP because BJP is anti-Christian. If our Church and its leaders are really supporting Christians and Christianity in Goa then they will oppose Dr. Mesquita who is nothing but a big chamcha of BJP.
In this Parliamentary election there is no big issue involved to raise in the parliament. But the big issue for genuine Goans and especially Christians is to disgrace communal BJP. By doing this we will prove to Parrikar and his communal BJP that we have not forgotten his anti-Christian activities. Parrikar is a very opportunistic politician. When time comes he disgraces Christians and Christianity otherwise he uses Christians for his own benefits. And unfortunately our Chrsitian chamchas are shamelessly associating with him. Let this election be fought on the plank of Communal against non-communal. BJP is communal. Hence, all out efforts must be made to defeat anti-Christian party BJP by defeating its chrsitian candidate Dr. Wilfred Mesquita who had no shame to accept the nomination from anti-Christian party BJP.

DEATH OF FR. MORENO DE SOUZA.
On behalf of myself, my colleagues in Konkani circle especially from Kuwait Konknni Kendr, Konkani Heritage Kuwait and all the like minded lovers of Konkani, I deeply mourn the sad demise of Fr. Moreno D'Souza on Sunday 14th of this month in Goa. As I know him, Fr. Moreno D'Souza during his entire life not only served God but he also served Konkani in Roman script. He was a good friend of mine and I was a good reader of his D. Mhoineachi Rotti, even in Kuwait I was a suscriber of D. M. Rotti. In D. M. Rotti in the column of "Vichar ani Zabab" on religious topics, we both had lot of debates, not on ordinary subjects but on very high subjects. Many times he involved and made Fr. Ivo Do Conceicao to quench my thirst when he himself was found wanting. Thru D.M. Rotti and thru Fr. Moreno's writings I have improved my power of knowledge, not only on religious topics but also on secular topics. I was reading him not only in D.M. Rotti but also in other Konkani dailies, weeklies and monthlies. His writings had deep meaning and he used to make lot of research on any topic that he used to touch.
Fr. Moreno was also a very good preacher and I heard his sermons at innumerable places and at innumerable times in Goa. While preaching one could feel some grace in him and a fountain of wisdomatic words. He had very good convincing power. His sermons were also very bold and even his advices to people were very bold. Once, one middle aged woman in my village came to him soliciting his assistance. While doing so she asked Fr. Moreno to pray for her pain in her right hand. Fr. Moreno replied to her thus "You must be prepared to bear at least little pain as a Christian because Christianity revolves around suffering. If we Christians are not ready to bear a little physical pain then what sort of Christians are we?".
During the invasion of Kuwait, to respect my word, he came to Panjim at T. B. Cunha Hall when we marked the National Day of Kuwait on the eve of the liberation of Kuwait. He was very symphatetic to our cause of Kuwait. He prayed for the liberation of Kuwait and during the meeting in his address to the hall packed gathering of Kuwait evacuees, he spoke so well in support of the liberation of Kuwait and in appreciation of our movement.
In his death I will miss a very good friend, a very good guide and an excellent colleague in Konkani movement. He brought honour not only for Konkani in general but more so for Roman script Konkani. Once Rane as a Chief Minister of Goa about 3o years back said Romi Konkani writers and followers are backward. Immediately on the next day Fr. Moreno issued a bold statement saying "I am a Romi Konkani writer and supporter. I am not backward. I challenge you to prove me as backward". Rane had no guts to prove and like a coward remained silent.
May the soul of Fr. Moreno D'Souza Rest In Peace and may God give more of Fr. Morenos to Goa and to our Goan Church. It is a sad that day by day death is snatching Konkani lover and Konkani writer priests from our midst. Their contribution for the promotion, development and spread of Konkani was immense.

Right to Information
We may not be able to do much about World Peace, but yes all of us can certainly do something for Goa, our land, our people, our culture and our beautiful atmosphere.
I think the guys in Goa, should take active participation in all issues concerning Goa. And rest of the guys abroad should support and encourage and may advise their families in Goa to take active participation (unless of course you are planning to settle outside).
All of us are living a busy life, there is no doubt about it, but in the busy lifestyle we got to keep some percentage of time aside for social cause. We are living in a society, and we need to see that the whole society progresses in a positive direction. We have become what we are coz' of the society around us and we got to give back something to the society.
We are in a very crucial stage in Goa at present, either we fight and survive or we simply give up and perish. Somehow we are unlucky as far as the rulers are concerned, and hence we have to fight for every issue (and there is no option). If we are planning to settle down and retire in Goa, then we got to preserve it as it is, now, before it is too late.
You can fight only if you are aware, hence the Right to Information Act is an important tool. GOA CAN is a NGO who are educating people in consumer rights. I reproduce an email from Goa Can, please go through it and spread the info.
Remember, either we fight and survive, or we give up and perish. Choose to fight and we will win. We have to wake up now, keep a little time aside in your busy schedule, if you want to see "Goa" remaining as Goa.
Thanks & regards,

DEATH OF TIATRIST PREM KUMAR
DEATH OF TIATRIST PREM KUMARIt is with deep regret and sorrow I received the news of the sudden and untimely death of the renowned Konkani Tiatrist, Prem Kumar, in Mumbai, on Friday 12th of this month. Joel D’Souza from Assagao Bardez was quick enough to flash this news thru cyber. While reading the news of his death I was refusing to admit it but facts are facts and one has to admit them and finally I admitted. Immediately today 13th I passed this news to many of my colleagues and friends especially those from Kuwait Konknni Kendr, Konkani Heritage Kuwait, Kuwait Tiatrists circle and Konkani Stage lovers who along with me joined together immediately to condole the death of Prem Kumar. Everyone was very sad to know of this death. May his soul rest in peace.
Konkani Stage since its inception produced great stalwarts and gigantic figures and because of their majestic roles on Konkani stage we are fortunate to have the Konkani stage survived till now. One of the very gigantic figures of Konkani stage who helped the promotion of Tiatro to raise its standard was none other than Prem Kumar. In fact what Prem Kumar has done for Konkani Stage no other Tiatrist has done. He was not only an ordinary script writer but a great playwright and director. I can rightly call him the Goan Shakespeare of Konkani Stage. I am very fortunate to watch most of his Tiatros in Goa and in Bombay. The story of his Tiatros touched great ideological topics like ‘MORTIKAR’ where a revolutionary man to bring economic equality in society robs the rich and helps the poor. “PELEACHE VOSTUCHI AXEA KORINAYE” was another Tiatro of his which touches deeply the conscience of the people truly in a Christian principle. Jessie Dias plays a very good role in this Tiatro. “MARIA MAGDALENA’ his another hit was well accepted by the Tiatro goers. “ABDUL NARAIN DESOUZA” is yet another masterpiece in which “Cantos” are very beautiful, so too the story where Prem Kumar dazzles like a shining star in hero's role. Along with Prem, Conception also played a magnificent role of a strict disciplinarian father. In fact all his Tiatros became total hit only because Prem Kumar himself played the main and important roles.
Not only was Prem Kumar fluent in his actions but very fluent in his expressions which he knew very well without relying on the prompting. The power and command of Konkani language in his Tiatros was also very good. ‘KONNANK MUNNONK MAIM” his another masterpiece would easily melt the hearts of the audience. Yet another excellent Tiatro of his “VAVRADDI” gives total different outlook of his mighty pen where he tells the educated persons not to feel shy in working in the fields. The scenes of the paddy field and that of the “Paddeanchem Zoth” ploughing the field look very genuine. Light effects and other cinema type of methods used magnify the scenic beauty of this Tiatro. In Mortikar he shows genuine running Motorcyle where Prem himself shown riding it. Here again light effects created the whole magic. He converted Konkani Stage into a Cinema by applying his knowledge which he learnt in the Hindi Film industry.
He was not a good singer and never excelled in singing but surely excelled beautifully in composing beautiful “Cantos”. The beauty of his Tiatros concentrated in a Shakespearean style purely on beautiful Dialogues, Proverbs and ideologically high statements. For example in Mortikar Tiatro which I consider the best among all his Tiatros there is a beautiful dialogue which goes thus: “Antonette when she comes to know that her brother Prem was arrested because he robbed somebody to fulfill the monetary demands of his girlfriend, Antonette informs this to his brother’s girlfriend. When the girlfriend ignores, Antonette calls her as “SUNNEM”. Listening to this, Rico Rod, Antonette’s uncle standing next to her sobbingly tells Antonette thus - Bai taka Sunnem munnonakai. Taka Sunnem munnon tum Sunneank okman kortai. Sunnem sodanch Visvaxi ani nhoi ghatki tujea bavachea girlfriendaporim” All his Tiatros were full of such beautiful dialogues. Prem Kumar was named as “Pai Dialogancho – Pain Scenicho” as C. Alvares named as “Pai Duettancho”. Along with J. P. Souzalin, Prem Kumar beautified Konkani Tiatros with beautiful scenes. However, between the two, Prem stands taller. He was good in performing any type of role but the best role I liked him doing was that of an elderly man. In talking like an old man was his excellence. My contact with him started when he first time came to Goa to stage his two Tiatros in mid sixties. These Tiatros were staged all over Goa by the Candolim based contractor Pe. Alvito Vaz in aid of the construction of St. Theresa’s High School Candolim, my village. As a young school going boy I was helping Pe. Alvito in supporting his ventures for the cause of Village School. Both these Tiatros were big budgeted because the Stage was the biggest ever in length and breadth. Light effects were very expensive and cast was also huge. Prem relied too much on his script and scenes to attract the audience and less on artistes popularity. For this reason he many times suffered losses. He had strong sense of defiance and he liked challenges. He also had a tinge of feudality in him expecting reverence from other Tiatrists which finally led him to create enemies amongst Tiatrists. Then later on when I went to Bombay as a member of Sesa Soccer Team in the Rovers Cup, he everyday used to come to meet me in our hotel rooms where we further fortified our friendship very well. He was a great supporter of our Team in particular because of me and all the Goan teams in general.
He came to Kuwait twice, once before the invasion with his troupe staging his own Tiatro and second time after the liberation of Kuwait to participate in M. Boyer’s Tiatro. During his second trip to Kuwait he spent one whole night in my house where we spent the whole night only in talking and discussing many topics. He was a very good listener and listened a lot from my mouth and even promised me to pen down some of my ideas which I put in front of him, in his future Tiatro. Four years back he sent me a letter saying he is going to stage his new Tiatro based on Drugs menace and solicited from me some advertisements for the Souvenir to be released during this new Tiatro. I collected worth Rs. 30 thousands advertisement from my colleagues in KKK, KHK and other sources and called him from Bombay when I went on leave. When he asked me how much money I have collected, I told him 30 thousand rupees. For this he bluntly told me “it is too little”. For this I promptly answered him thus, “Prem, this is only my capacity, you either accept or else I will return it”. He said he has postponed his new Tiatro indefinitely. Then I said, I will give you that money only when you announce the new date of your Tiatro. Then I brought back the money and returned to those who gave me. Financially he was not well settled. Once speaking to me over phone from Bombay he cried bitterly saying “Veronica mojea bhava, hi Konkani mae passun kiteak re moje churchure korina anvem Konkani mae passot itlem kelam astana?” Thru Tiatros only few Tiatrists made money especially amongst the seniors. Prem Kumar was one who did not make money out of Tiatros and that was his regret during his last days.
Prem Kumar was very instrumental in encouraging new artistes to bloom on Konkani stage. He gave in this direction lot of helping hand for the new comers. He cared less for money but more for the art and to display it adroitly he spent money lavishly. He spent lot of money on his dresses especially when he was doing the role of a hero. It was not that he did not earn from staging his tiatros but he spent also more after tiatros and tiatrists. Money making out of tiatros was not his good art but showing good tiatros with good scenes was his very good art. Such an excellent artiste I don’t think Konkani stage has produced before and in future I have my doubt if we can get another Prem Kumar as Tiatrist. Such a Tiatrist come to this world once in centuries. Will we get another Prem Kumar in this century? Time alone will tell.A. Veronica Fernandes,

GOA DAY AND FOOD & MANDO FESTIVAL.
The Goan Welfare Society – Kuwait and Goan Cultural Centre – Kuwait have both announced their functions on the same date, that is on 9th of next month. Goa Day by Goan Welfare Society (GWS) and Food & Mando Festival by Goan Cultural Centre. Goan Cultural Centre claims that they have announced their function much in advance and hence GWS should not have scheduled their function on the same date to create an unnecessary clash leading to the division amongst Goans in Kuwait.
Both are Goan organizations and both are organizing their functions for and on behalf of Goans. It is not good to have two functions on the same day. Wisdomatic persons should come forward and avoid this clash and division amongst Goans. If anybody is really for the interest of Goans and also for the unity of Goans then he should make a way for the other to have his function first. Logically the one who announced first should have a priority. In view of this, GWS should withdraw from this clash and postpone or advance its function. By doing this heaven will not fall down for GWS. Adamancy will prove who is for unity and who is for disunity and thus expose themselves as enemies of Goan unity in Kuwait.
I don’t understand why there should be a clash and for what reason. Is it to satisfy one’s ego? Is it to create a discord amongst us unnecessarily? It is not enough to say “we are for unity and peace amongst Goans in Kuwait”. If it is so then why should there be a clash?
Last year, Kuwait Konknni Kendr (KKK) announced its function on a particular date but later on suddenly somebody also came in-between to create a clash. In order not to rupture our unity, KKK not only withdrew from the clashing date silently but totally cancelled its function.
I feel those who are participating in GWS function should impress upon GWS managing committee to avoid this clash, and if they are really interested in the unity of Goans in Kuwait thru their association and participation, then they will force GWS to withdraw and allow Goan Cultural Centre to have 9th November since Goan Cultural Centre has already made preparations by announcing this date first.
Organizing of Goa Day under Goan Welfare Society is coming after a long gap. GWS was in total disarray for the last few years. Everybody knows how a few years back when Goa Day was organized at Indian Arts Circle Funaitees by GWS there were so many dirty scandals and happenings that took place there which brought the fair image of Goans into total disrepute especially of our women. Drunkenness, fist fights and molestation was rampant forcing the decent persons and decent families to leave the hall. Normally, decent Goans do not attend such functions organised by such organisations.
Those who are co-operating with GWS in organizing this year’s Goa Day must think twice. I also request the Church and priests in Kuwait to caution the people of the ills by attending vulgar functions where sinful acts are easily committed. Since most of the people attending such functions are Catholics, I must also convey my concern to the local priests who will be in a better position to guide our community members in the right direction otherwise there is a possibility for Hell to open.
Secondly, Goans should be very careful in participating in vulgarly organized functions because some amongst the organizers of such functions are cunning, drunkards and sexually perverted people. Goans should reject all functions where people with moral deformity are involved in organising Goan functions. Goans I mean Goans with high degree of morality and high degree of decency must avoid patronising social functions where the organisers are led by persons who demand sexual favours from young Goan girls for giving them the jobs. Goans should not support and associate in any activity where such sexually perverted Goans are involved in organizing our Goan functions. If Goans are really decent and if they are of good character then they will boycot the functions organized by sexually perverted leaders and organizers who will bring bad name for our innocent females.
When GWS was established, the founders had high ideals. Vincente D’Souza the then powerful Goan in Kuwait was the initiator of GWS. The existence of GWS is like a monument of Vincente D’Souza but if he was in Kuwait now he would never agree to hand over the custody of over 30 thousand Dinars fund of GWS into the hands of just three persons in their personal account. If all the three die suddenly then who will inherit this money? Surely not GWS or its members but the families of the dead. Because it is a wrong decision to entrust the GWS fund into the hands of three persons in their personal account, one of the members of GWS earlier filed a suit against the said three persons in the court of law for forcing the three persons to surrender the GWS money to GWS account yet no solution found. This fund is a public fund collected from the public for the benefit of Goans. It should come to the parent body and not left into the hands of just three persons in their personal account.
As for me I have no trust in those persons who were earlier involved in misusing the huge funds collected in Goa during the invasion of Kuwait in the name of Kuwait Goan Evacuees Society from the Kuwait evacuees. Up to now nobody knows exactly where this fund has gone. Some say it is gone to Canada. If this is the case, then there is every possibility other fund also to go to Canada. If Goans are real Goans then they will demand justice. It is better to consider “once you are corrupt then you will always be corrupt”.
Finally, a piece of advice to all who are participating in organizing Goa Day. Everyone participating must put their claims for membership of GWS and control the mischief being committed by some of the seniors of GWS. If participants don’t get membership then they should not only refrain from giving their participation but also boycott Goa Day. It is a long time now that there is an embargo on new enrolment which suits only the persons of dubious character. Participants should not be made as tools of the organisers to use them the way they want. If GWS is really for the cause of Goans then it will open its membership for every Goan who is willing to join GWS.
Beware! By having two functions on the same day there is bound to be a clash in the community. By creating this clash we will now come to know who will be the Goans who are on the forefront to create disunity amongst us. It is not enough to say “we are for unity”. If you are for unity then use your brain and work for unity. We are not having an Indo-Pak type of war amongst us warranting this type of clash. Why not engage in talk, discuss the matter amicably and avoid clash?

Kuwait.

Don't miss out on the Games of skill stalls, which is seen as a must at every Goan feast and fair back home.
As the day goes by and evening sets in, be assured of a unique Konkani Cultural stage Programme, which will enthrall one and all. Watch out for further announcements in this regard as the final days approach.
Children are in for a great time out, as the early morning session is planned all for their excitement. Dear Mr.Sydney Furtado ( Vice President )
Thank you for the invitation to attend the meeting. We will not be able to make it this time but sure next time if the same type of meetings are held somewhere in the city restaurants then will be able to come. GWS is having lots of funds and can afford to have meetings in any hotels instead of residence meetings. You have to change this type of same old styles.
Secondly, Goan Cultural Centre-Kuwait has already announced their annual Food & Mando Festival much earlier for 9th November, 2007. I can't understand how can GWS destroy other functions? by having 2 similiar Goan functions on same day. What Gurantee is there that next time other clubs / associations will not be destroyed like this episode.
Below is the list, which we have already sent to visiting Mr.Edwardo Faleiro. Mr.Edward Faleiro is coming to Gulf and Middleast at the expense of Indian Central Government. He will visit all the gulf states as well as Jordan. No indivisual is bringing Mr.Faleiro to Kuwait. Kuwait Indian Embassy is also well posted about all the developements and again Indian Embassy of Kuwait will inform all the Goan Clubs / Associations in Kuwait about the arrival of Mr.Edward Faleiro.
Indian Central School, Salmiya, the rent is only KD.75/- and the hall is very small and surrounding is a Pakistani Breed. No proper parking place is available.
Most of the below clubs/associations have promised us the participate at Goan Food & Cultural Festival on 9th November, 2007.
GWS is also invited to take part for the food festival. Lets see if GWS can help Goan Cultural Centre-Kuwait. Most of the time GWS is saying that they are helping all the goan clubs/associations. We want to see how the help is coming.
Most of the GWS present members are for only for themselves and their families, someone will try to help her/his husband-wife band, someone will try to help his/her son-in-law's band, someone will try to help his/her brother-in-laws sound system at the cost of GWS.

PS: My contribution to Veronica's excellent thoughts.
Stage is set when I was sailing, a long time ago. Comes a delegation of parish council for donation to build the Church fund. This is when Goa's churches were stripped of their own revenues. I said fine. Why not? But on one condition. You people show me a voucher where our church has given back even 5 or 10 rupees to the needy of the village and come take my contribution. They never came and I never gave.-----

OUR CHURCH, OUR PRIESTS AND WE.
By: Veronica Fernandes.
OUR CHURCH, OUR PRIESTS AND WE.
In my locality in Goa a few years back some Hindu young men, all Goa based joined together and formed a Co-operative Financial Society, a sort of a Co-operative Bank. They have also floated Shares which they issued only to their own people from their own community. Jobs were also given only to their own people from their own community. The initiators of this project were my friends as they were my companions in School and College. Before starting this project they exchanged their views with me on this project and assured me of some Shares in this project and asked me to open my account in their financial institution. I immediately opened my account with some deposit but finally they cheated me by not giving me any Share since they kept everything within their own community. Within a short period they have increased their business which necessitated them to open more branches in many other localities. Currently they are doing good and giving good dividends to their Share holders coming from their own community. Though entire financial power they held in their own hands but deposits are solicited from non-Hindu community members also mainly from Christian community. Even the jobs in their new branches are given only or mainly to the persons from their own religion. This financial organization is run by the Board of Directors and all the Directors are from their own circle of their own community. They are fanatically helping their own community members in giving loans and other financial benefits for the improvement and benefits of their own community members. Incidentally many of the fat account holders in their organization are Christians in general and Catholics in particular.
I admire them for doing something extraordinary and that also for their own community people. Similarly, can’t we Christians do the way they did? We can surely do and if possible we can do still better. With the money power flowing into the hands of Christians we can do so many things financially and other lucrative projects in a much better way. We the Gulfies itself can start so many of such financial projects and help us and our community people so nicely. But to do such projects who will guide and direct us? In Goa there is nobody to guide us because our own people are jealous of us. By being out of Goa we are very much handicapped and for this reason we need somebody as our true and sincere Godfather from Goa itself. And as a matter of fact, Christians are in disunity in Goa only because they are jealous of their own Christian brothers and sisters, Catholics are worst. Our Church and our priests are partly responsible for this because they failed in their mission of educating our people on the ills of jealousy from the Pulpit in their regular sermons. Our Hindu and Muslim brothers and sisters are having better unity amongst their respective community members. For this reason they are more successful.
Secondly to start such financial and commercial ventures we Christians in general and Catholics in particular are not aggressive. We don’t like to be masters but we prefer to be slaves. To overcome these lethargic attitudes surely I except our Church leaders and priests to guide and direct us and help us to do something of our own and for our own selves. But instead of doing this our Church leaders and its priests will use their tact and power to woo us to help the projects of Church namely construction of Schools, Convents, Colleges, Chapels, Printing Press, Old Age Houses and other such projects in the name of charity and in the name of Jesus Christ. These projects are no doubt good but they ultimately do not help us to increase and stabilize our financial strength. If we are not financially stable then we are doomed to disaster. For example, see how much we suffered during the invasion of Kuwait. Inspite of working in Kuwait for so many years many of us faced financial difficulties because many of us in the absemce of proper guidance frittered away our money unscrupulously. Because of financial problems during the invasion of Kuwait some of our females were making money thru illicit means which is against the teachings of our religion. Acquiring money thru illicit means is a sin leading to the Hell. Church duty is to stop people from going into the Hell. Hence, positive role of the Church comes into picture. But, is our Church playing its positive role appropriately?
It is about 60 years now since Goans are coming to Kuwait to work. During this long period we earned lakhs of Dinars and converted into Indian Currency turned into Crores of Rupees. Major portion of these Crores went into the construction of luxurious houses and bungalows for private use, unnecessarily purchasing of expensive Flats in the expensive localities to acquire fake aristocratic social status by discarding poor ancestral localities, so also in unwanted luxuries and in other conspicuous consumption. Very few amongst us invested their hard earned money for productive purposes and for getting good returns. Most of us were satisfied with the interest we got from our fixed deposits in the Banks in Goa. Incidentally by using our deposits in the Banks in Goa our enemies who are all out to finish us and our power in Goa built their business empires and became Crorepotis. By using our deposits from the Banks in Goa our enemies started their own business ventures and there they employed our own sons and daughters like slaves. On the strength of our money our enemies became our masters and regretfully they made us their slaves. Our own money made us employees of somebody. Not only this, the money that we deposited in the Nationalised Banks in Goa were invested by non-Goans in their own States and in other parts of India thereby bringing prosperity in the lands of somebody. It is a pity to know that our financial power is not utilized for our benefits nor to protect our Goa from being purchased by non-Goans.
Since last 40 years priests are coming to Kuwait either on their own as Tiatrists or social workers or teachers or deputed by the Church. Most of them like the late Fr. Freddy J. D’Costa came to Kuwait only to ask from us donations for their own projects like Printing Press of Fr. Freddy J. D’Costa. Many other priests came to Kuwait to ask donations for the construction of Diocesan English Schools in their respective localities, also for Convents and other projects. I was too deeply involved in these donations mainly to Fr. Freddy J. D’Costa and to other priests. But none of these priests at any given time during their trips to Kuwait asked us and impressed upon us to utilize our financial resources for our own development. They never thought anything good for us. They only shown concern for their projects totally owned by them and the Church. They got hefty donations from us but never made any scheme to share their benefits with the donors.
Even during the invasion of Kuwait many of the priests and nuns refused admission for our children in the schools built on our donations. Not only this, during that same invasion period when we organized a movement in Goa in support of Kuwait, none of the priests who feasted in Kuwait at our cost and who got hefty donations like Fr. Freddy J. D’Costa from us for their projects, associated with us. Neither the nuns supported our movement. On the contrary like Fr. Freddy some of the priests who got donations from us were mocking at us, at our movement in Goa in support of the liberation of Kuwait and at our misery. “BEIMAN TE VHODDLE – LUCIFERACHEA KASTACHE“. TANCHE SERMAU FOKOT LOKANK ANI NHOI UNIANK. They are not only unChristian but also antiChristian in their actions. They shared our happiness but never our sorrows. They are interested only in our money and for this they would exploit our innocence to any extent. To acquire our financial benefits they would exploit us not only bodily but even soully and slyly accuse Satan for robbing us of our souls. They have obligation to support, protect, guide and direct us in the right direction the way the Pope or Head Priest of Bohra community is doing so nicely for Bohras. For this reason Bohras are a prosperous community while we are not though we are in much better position to attain better financial prosperity.
See what some of our Pe. Vigars and Pe. Curs in many of our villages in Goa did. They have criminally sold cheaply the properties of Confrarias to non-Christians and non-Goans instead of selling the same to us and to our Christians. These non-Christians and non-Goans in many places in Goa are bossing over us and tomorrow they may even restrict our movements towards our Churches. It looks like “MOJEA HATHANI ANVEM MOJECH FOLE FODDLET”. They have not impressed upon our landlords not to sell our land and properties to non-Goans and to our Goan enemies like those who went to Ayodya to demolish Babri Masjid. Tomorrow they may even demolish our Churches. Our Churches are so beautiful venues for our priests to advise and guide our people in right direction during their regular preachings but they are not using this forum rightly. Many of the priests are preaching like Sankistao turned into Deacons with the knowledge of ignorant buttlers of 18th century. If today non-Catholic denominations are mushrooming and taking firm roots amongst us like the Believers then it is due to the fault of our Church leaders and priests who are not competent enough to guide us in a right direction thru their regular preachings. Can any one believe some of our Church leaders and priests in the last election and earlier too supported anti-Christian Parrikar and his anti-Christian Party BJP? Unbelieveable but factually true. The enemies of Christians and Catholics are within themselves only.
If our Church leaders and priests had any concern for us then they would devise some ways to utilize our financial resources for our own benefits and developments. If they fail to come to our rescue then nobody amongst us will come. They are the last resort for our salvation otherwise we Christians and Catholics in Goa will be diminished from Goa and turn into non entities. To get this result our Christian politicians are making ways. Generally speaking Gulf Goan Christians are not advanced to do what our Hindu brothers are doing though we have a false notion that we are very advanced community as a whole. For this reason Gulf Goan Christians need assistance. This assistance, guidance and know how should come from the Church and its leaders. Overwhelming majority of Gulf Goans are Catholics. To protect our financial interest what our Church and its leaders doing? Nothing. Are they not obligated to do something for our development? They know only to use us and our financial power for donations. They only want our money. Sometime back one visiting priest to Kuwait while saying the Mass, shamelessly from the Alter itself, against the edicts of the Kuwait Church was soliciting donations but not guiding us to do something to make our future safe. Many of us working in the Gulf are living on oxygen and if the valve of Oxygen Cylinder is removed we will be fish out of water. Will it be the pleasure of our religious leaders to see us suffering and do bad things to get money for our survival? As fatherly figure and leader of the community Church is duty bound to help, guide, direct and support us. And if our Church and its leaders fail to come to our rescue then there is nobody on this planet to help and guide us. Then God alone will help us. But we know from past experience that God helps to those who help themselves.

AGNELO GOMES WRITES AGAIN.
Veronica:
I'm glad that you pasted my response to Kranti as is. I did not mean kuwait Goans let them down. Without the blessing from kuwait Government, Goans otherwise would have not survived in Goa post 1961. We should be thankful to all foreign governments Africa, Australia, Europe, North America to allow us settle in their land and merciful towards our families. Our families in foreign settlements are doing well and prosperous. With this development we've created many Goas all over the world.
However, we should thrive for the rest of Goans we left behind in Goa. We must cut double standards and speak the truth, how India destroyed our beautiful Goa thru corruption and destroyed our Catholic heritage and culture by sending millions of Indians on our land.
We Goans wherever we settled we must not forget we're Goans first and fight for the Indepence of Goa.
Like the Goan Liberators of USA.
Regards to you and best wishes for Kuwait Goans.

Veronica:
With all due respect Goans from Kuwait didn't help to improve Goan Portuguese konkani at all. They settled with Indianized konkani in which Portuguese words filtered by marathi and in this context contributed to dilution or destruction to konkani of Niz Goenkars.
Goans from kuwait settled less for statehood, and not for Independence of Goa. Goa was a nation colonized by Portugal and later in 1961 by India. Kuwait Goans had no guts to speak vs the reality in which Goans were betrayed. Only Goancauses of USA protected its Goan Heritage culture by telling the world What kind of Goa existed.
All theatrist come to Kuwait their lyrics are written in twisted indianized konkani and not Goan konkani of pre-1961.
Teatrist come to kuwait not in love of konkani but for the love of dinars.
Goans from kuwait have no guts and their contribution for original konkani of pre-1961 is zero.

FOR THE CAUSE OF KONKANI
Two months back I was honoured in Kuwait by a Mangalorean Association “Konkani Kullvar” for my contribution in the promotion and protection of Konkani. The honouring function was organised very majestically where a hall packed audience comprising Mangaloreans, Goans and others attended. The organizers in their speeches praised me fabulously for my fight for the cause of Konkani. They have admitted openly that what I did for the cause of Konkani no other expatriate has done not only in Kuwait but anywhere in the expatriate Konkani World.

On 20th of last month, I celebrated my 28th Wedding anniversary with a get-together where my close friends and colleagues attended on my personal invitation. Two speakers namely Gasper Crasto and Rosary Ferns in their speeches praised me profoundly for my enormous contribution in the promotion, protection and development of Konkani.
While agreeing to their statements that my contribution in the promotion, protection, development and fight for the cause of Konkani is second to none in the expatriate Goan World, I must confess openly and boldy too, that if at all I managed to do what I did for the cause of Konkani it was only because of the strong support and cooperation I received from my colleagues and associates in this movement. Without their support I don’t think I would reach so far in promoting the cause of Konkani.
Why do we need Konkani? We need it in the first place to protect our culture, tradition, history, folklore, folktales and our total Goanness which is based only on Konkani. See the Goans who discarded Konkani, they are like soulless bodies.
Secondly we needed Konkani to get separate Statehood for Goa. How? Indian States are formed on the basis of languages, one State - one Language. For example, Maharastra was formed on the basis of Marathi, Gujarat on the basis of Gujarati, Tamilnadu on the basis of Tamil and so on.
From the time of the exit of Portuguese from Goa, we the genuine Goans, the real sons and real daughters of real Goan fathers (not bastardized Goans), wanted to maintain our own unique identity under the Union of India as a separate State of Goa. We did not want our beloved Goa to merge with Maharastra and get ourselves diluted in Marathi and non-Goan Maharastrian culture and finally lose our total identity. Since language was an important factor to get separate Statehood for Goa, we the genuine Goans had to fight for Konkani to make it a official Goan language. Hence, our fight for the cause of Konkani.
Taking this view into very important consideration, I started campaigning for the cause of Konkani. In my campaign I got very strong support from my colleagues, friends and all the lovers of Goa and Konkani, some of whom personally disliked me but surely they liked the campaign I was carrying forward. Most of them are not in Kuwait at the moment, some are dead while others retired and left from Kuwait either for Goa or elsewhere.
Some of the prominent Goans who strongly supported Konkani cause since the time of my inception of Konkani movement in Kuwait are still in Kuwait, like me. They are Alexandre Menino Fernandes from Colva, who was one of the pillars of Novem Goem Pratishthan Kuwait Somiti (NGPKS) established in Kuwait under my initiative to raise funds for Konkani Daily Novem Goem. NGPKS was my biggest and first initiative for the cause of Konkani and thru this move we made known to everyone in Goa especially the enemies of Konkani like Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party and its Marathi protagonists that 'please do not play with us Kuwaitkars, we are not the West settled Goans with an attitude 'Deklem Moddem Ailem Roddnem.' We are not the Goans who 'Aitea Folear Thuktat Tosle' neither 'Fulu Fustar Fozne Martat Tosle' nor 'Mezailem Kellem Kaddun Sagvad Zoddtat Tosle'. What we mean is business. And in fact we Kuwaitkars proved how challenging we can be if we are united. And in fact we Kuwaitkars remained united for the cause of Konkani and sent lakhs of rupees for this cause.
Mr. A. B. Fernandes, the Chairman of this organization took great efforts to attain success for this move, so too the late Estanislaus Alemao - the then Principal of New Indian English School, Jabriya. The other prominent member of NGPKS who is still in Kuwait was Raymond D’Sa – the president of Goan Overseas Association. On my part as an initiator of this move I played my role tirelessly and unselfishly and I need not dwell more on what I did since everybody knows what I have done. Yet I give credit to all my colleagues and supporters who helped us in raising funds for this cause. It was only thru their support we got so much of financial aid which we ultimately sent to Novem Goem Pratishthan, the parent body in Goa. It was not only the funds collection campaign we did thru NGPKS but with it we also did campaign for the cause of Konkani. We made many of the Goans to speak, write and embrace more closely in Konkani. Thru our campaign we put a strong base for the cause of Konkani in Kuwait which is still giving very good results.
Amongst the Tiatrists I must point out the excellent contribution of all the three Mendes Bros. Felix - Xavier - Derek - who being top professionals, for the cause of Konkani promotion they not only acted free of charge like their other colleagues, for both our Tiatros organized for this cause but also shouldered major responsibilities of these Tiatros. One Tiatro was of Alexinho de Maxem while the other by F. X. Pereira. I must confess now that the involvement of Mendes Bros. with their freewill in our move at that critical juncture was an excellent gesture on their part and strong support for our cause. They were not ordinary Tiatrists but they were at that time enjoying celebrity status. They not only supported us open heartedly and willingly but within their capacity they also made others to support us.
Besides them other Tiatrists too supported us similarly but most of those Tiatrists who supported us at that time are no more in Kuwait but their efforts are still remembered. Unfortunately, amongst the current Tiatrists there are more "Rostad Tiatrists". I call them Rostad because they are supporting the Rostad cause "To Aslear Aum Nachona" of a Rostad Tiatrist. By using the method of "To Aslear Aum Nachona" all those Tiatrists who are subscribing to the views of "To Aslear Aum Nachona" are killing Tiatros and Tiatrists in Kuwait. Hence, they are all not only enemies of Tiatro promotion in Kuwait but more than that they are all enemies of Konkani. Their names will be written in BLACK letters in the history of Konkani Tiatros in Kuwait.
Then came into being thru my inititiative the formation of Kuwait Konknni Kendr where again my colleagues gave me strong support and only because of their support KKK managed to create wonders on Konkani world. It is they who make the wheel of KKK run smoothly and of course I play my role well. KKK is the only such Konkani organization established anywhere in the world. Our campaign for raising funds for Konkani Martyrs’ families was one of the powerful campaigns KKK has organized. In this campaign our well wishers namely Americo Remedios from Saligao played a very good role in helping us to collect major portion of the funds. The others who helped us in our mission beautifully in their individual capacities were Raymond D’Sa from Nagoa-Arpora, Andrew Rodrigues from Sucurro, Porvorim, Ignatius Fernandes from Calangute, Messias Barreto from Candolim and many others. Besides, KKK has helped so many other causes for the promotion of Konkani. Formation of Konkani Heritage Kuwait was yet another strong initiative which helped us in further promotion of Konkani and spread the gospel of unity of Konkani speaking people. Additionally, I got myself involved in the promotion of our Tiatros which also helped in the promotion of our "Maim Bhas". As a Konkani writer I wrote exhaustively in Romi script Konkani in different Newspapers and Magazines and there again I was supported by my friends and colleagues.
While concluding I must admit openly and loudly that all what I did for the cause of Konkani was done only thru the support, cooperation and goodwill of all my friends, colleagues and supporters in Konkani movement. They are the real architects of my contribution in Konkani movement.
The award that I received and the plaudits that I got are the results of the support I received from my friends, colleagues and well wishers. I thank them all, though I cannot name them all individually because they are innumerable. More then me, it is they who deserve the awards and plaudits for the promotion of Konkani cause. I received the award and plaudits on their behalf.
A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.
