SKYNET a newly formed soccer club in Kuwait organised their first ever 8 - A - Side soccer tourney in Kuwait City at Digital grounds on 2nd of this month. A daylong soccer competition started in the morning and ended at noon. DHL emerged rightful winners by defeating G.O.A. Maroons, the second oldest team in Kuwait amongst the Indians. Both teams dished out good soccer but neither could emerge winners during the regular time. Hence, tie breaker had to be resorted in which DHL won the winners trophy.
In order to accomodate all the participating teams and to complete the daylong competition in time, the organisers utilised both the grounds with eleborate arrangements on both the grounds.
The Chief guest Mr. Tony Gonsalves one of the main persons responsible to sart competitive soccer for Indians at Sour grounds in 1979 in his brief speech praised the organisers "SKYNET" in having this soccer festival which united the people from different segments of the society. Tony Gonsalves was one of the founders of UG Soccer Club in Kuwait and himself an ace footballer in Goa during Portuguese time playing along with and against Portuguese footballers.
In Kuwait he also played for UG and as a competent Referee umpired many of the difficult encounters at critical times, at Sour Grounds, for many years.
Before the final, an exhibition match for the Tiny Tots was organised between SKYNET and Carmel School Kuwait, each session of 5 minutes. Sakynet came out winners by scoring 2 - 0 goals, one coming from the boot of Declin and the other from Alonso.
As a whole, it was an enjoyable day not only for the participants but also for the organisers and good number of spectators who attended this tournament.
