New Tiatro “GOEM  KONNACHEM” by Saby de Divar.

ON 26^TH of this month in Panjim at Kala Academy hall starting at 7.30 PM,, I saw the new Tiatro which according to me is the Season’s best Tiatro, “GOEM KONNACHEM” scripted and directed beautifully by the young Tiatist “Saby de Divar”.

Congratulations to you Saby de Divar for penning down such a wonderful script. In fact the maturity Saby indicates at this young age proves that he is much ahead of his time. This Tiatro was attended by almost the capacity audience.

The story of the play is woven into suspense incidents  involving among the Police personnel, MLA/Minister and the brother-in-law of the Minister who acts as a dada because he is the Minister’s brother- in - law.  Among their respective roles, I  must rightly say that the role of a PSI Rohan played by Vikas stands tallest among all others. The role further played by the same Rohan  as a handicapped man is the most admirable role. To have among us such an excellent artiste like Vikas means  a great asset for the Konkani Stage.

The role of the other PSI Tracila, a lady, who is the beloved wife of the director Saby de Divar was beautifully performed by her. Even though she got all the attributes of a class A like beautiful looks with the matching personality, very good stage confidence, pleasing ways of talking and very good clarity. This being her first performance, at least to my knowledge, yet she gave a signal that she will gradually rule the Konkani Stage.

Anil Pednekar as usual was unstoppable in performing such roles as he played this time the role of a corrupt Minister.  Also the role of a loafer type of a boy played by Cajie deserve very good appreciation. Even in the earlier Tiatros where  I saw him performing, he acted very well.

The role of a non-Goan Sarpanch played by lovely Opelia was well accepted especially her Konkani language spoken like a non-Goan coming from beyond our borders. This was a strong alert given by the director for the Goans to be ready to face the non-Goans as MLA’s and Ministers

Besides Tracy, Aveena and other artistes also played their roles well to maintain the high level of this Tiatro.

The comedy part tough was well performed by all the comedians yet there was some scope to reach it to the still upper level. However, the comedy role of Mathew was more impressive.

In the Side Show songs, the two beautiful highly political solos rendered one by Olga and the other by Saby de Divar were enough to recover your ticket money. I never heard such powerful songs earlier rendered by any of the current political singers.

TIATRO "KAZAR.COM" BY PRINCE JACOB.

Surely one  of the best Tiatros of this season is CAZAR.COM written and directed by the renowned  director and a mighty pillar of Konkani Stage Prince Jacob also an ace comedian who beautified this Tiatro with his beautiful comedy he superbly and very decently performed to the satisfaction of the capacity crowd  at Calangute Church Square at 8.00 pm on 22.4.18. It was organized by the Church under the able leadership of Pe. Vigar Cypriano who is retring from Calanute very shortly.

As a gift to him for serving the Calangute Church for the last so many years and bringing about lot of development in Calangute, the well known son of the soil Jerry Cal rendered a very beautiful solo composed very beautifully by him only, in showering abundant praises on the Pe. Vigar. From starting till ending of the solo, the audience was totally glued to the mike to enjoy not only each and every word of his song but even a  coma.  Such was the interesting song it was which according to me was the best in this Tiatro.  I appreciate the kind gesture  of Prince Jacob of giving an important opportunity to Jerry Cal to showcase his Stage talent. In fact Jerry Cal having two Konkani Albums to his credit, one is “Calangute” in the form of a CD and the other the  recent one “Ugddas M. Boyeracho” a DVD which are both turned out to be excellent.

The musical score provided by the Band Lader Moraes, Mathias and his young son Jr. Mathias, Ancieto and Rohan was really a great thriller.  However, the sound of the Music was so loud that at moment it was rather difficult to listen to the voices expressed on the Stage. However, the director should keep an watchful attention on this defect which proved to be an irritant.

The other  singers excelled in this segment known as “Side Show Songs” were Prince Jacob himself when he rendered a beautiful song along with his vastly improved partner and very good comedian Cedrick Pinto thrilled the audience by dressing like Lamani thereby imitating one of our local politicians whom in this duo put into shame.   The other singers who deserve complments for singing nice and interesting songs were Michael Jude Gracias and Bonny Alvin on the contribution of Goan Christians in the promotion of Goan causes, they bring out in this song how there is a silent genocide on the excellent contribution of the good work Goan Christians have done even by the Priests the Pinto revolutionaries. They also indicate in this highly intellectual song how the Goan crooks and cheats made Dr. Ram Manohar Loia a hero by falsely hoisting him on Goans as shown in his monument erected at Loia Maidan Margao that he was speaking there when he was arrested by the portuguese soldiers. In fact, Dr.Loia was not even allowed to  enter the Maidan since he was arrested

In our freedom movement those Christians who participated were genuine ones to liberate Goa but many others especially from North Goa were those who wanted to convert Goa into a Hindu Raj because they thought the word India comes from the word Hindus and as such India belongs to Hindus only. These idiots they must know that those who first fought for Goa’s independence from the Portuguese were the Christians from Candolim under their revolt “Pintos revolution” which was under the leadership of Priests some of whom were later on arrested by the Portuguese and then Hanged publicly in Panjim.  Even Abade Faria was part of this revolution. Jude Michael Gracias te composer of this high grade song deserve highest complments.

The other song which was a solo rendered by Agnel de  Dabolim was excellent so too the opening solo of Lourdes. In fact almost all the songs were good including  the two trios one by all the three ladies namely Valency-Rima-Lourdes and the other by Jose and company.

The major part of the play was handled excellently by Valency, recently I noticed her growing into much maturity, her role when she becomes mad was superb, she sings also well with her sweet voice. Jose rendered a nice solo but he excelled very well in a very hard role of a goondda.  In fact he created fear even into  the hearts of audience.

Congratulations to prince Jacob and Cedrick for dishing out a very decent comedy without any vulgarity. I hope upcoming comedian Cedrik  will never perform vulgar comedy, vulgar comedy is done by ROSTAD COMEDIANS who are a burden on Konkani Stage.

SORROWFUL FUNERAL OF LATE LOPES BRO.

It IS with deep regret and  sorrow that I  got the news of the death of our Kuwait colleague Mr Alex B.  Lopes on 19.04.18 in Rivona Goa with a massive heart attack.  His funeral on 22.4.18 was well attended by the people including by me going all the way from Candolim. A few Goans after seeing me for the funeral in the Church showed their surprise because they felt Candolim is very far from Rivona.  Far or close, there is a saying in Konkani which says “MOG ASLEAR KUIM UNUNDDE GHANTTAR PAVTAT”.  

It was not the long distance from Candolim to Rivona but it is the love and affection and the strong bond that we created during our so many years of stay in Kuwait where we organized our Goan cultural activities and in which you participated without charging us a single Coin.  With his elder brother he performed so well in Konkani stage in Kuwait rendering beautiful and intelligent duos and with his other family members including his beautifully singer sister Agnes and brother-in-law Nazareth, you beautified our Mando festivals and other such programs.  Your efforts in the promotion of Goan cultural programmes will be always remembered by many Goans.

IS CONGRESS CAPABLE TO CREATE AN UPSET FOR BJP?

“Hit the iron when it is hot” thus  goes one saying. Capitalizing by the Congress on the failure of BJP on all fronts could have magnified the ILL deeds of BJP and exposed the BJP for its failure to give good governace and thereby educate the BJP supporters blaming them for wrongly electing this party to power. It looks BJP has purchased not only Goa but the whole of India to do what they want.  In Goa it looks Goa is BJP father’s property to do what they want and yet go Scot free. It is now such a long time that the God given sickness in the form of a pancreatic cancer as given to understand, to Manohar Parricar is denying Goa the services of a chief minister. In this sickness is there some secrets of God remained hidden? It is an undenying fact that Parricar reached to a very powerful stage from where he could take any decision thereby hurting the sentiments of some or all the people just as Dayananda Bandodcar reached that stage just before his death.

At that particular time Bandodcar was holding the entire Goa on his left palm and playing with it as if it is a toy. He could make or mar anything, he instilled his fear in his opponenents' minds and hearts like hell and in his supporters best of things.  Christians were his targets and because of his anger on them, FOR the hatred he had for the Christian Brahmin Bhattcars who enjoyed better days during the Portuguese era while very many of them were acting like Hitlers and treating their Mundkars like slaves. But God is omnipotent knowing everything and before he could inflict worst of damages against his opponents, God liquidated Bandodcar from this planet and thus saved the likely targets of Bandodcar fury.

Similar situation I see in Parricar now wielding strong power over everything in Goa and may be God realized his wish to do the harm for one segment of society or the entire Goa and just to put an end to his likely harsh action God must have sent on him very bad sickness which is according to some medical experts difficult to cure.

Is Parricar so powerful and so omnipotent among the BJP stalwarts that makes him so important and inevitable?  That he was an idiot was proved when he was unceremoniously stripped of his defense portfolio and sent back to Goa thus putting Goa and its people into shame when Goans otherwise excelled so well in other fields elsewhere in india.  If this man found so defective in Delhi but  suddenly found so inevitable in Goa then the others must be worst idiots in Goa.  IN view of this, can these idiots develop Goa? Do they have the capacity to develop Goa?  Are they sincere to Goa and sincere to their own conscience to  do the development of Goa in a democratic manner? Or in the name of development of Goa and the certain areas of Goa they want to loot Goa’s wealth by acting like Salazar? Did people or voters who got them elected in the last  election give them the mandate to do what people do not want them to do?  How earlier some,  people friendly MLA’s suddenly turned into anti-people friendly MLA’s by ignoring and refusing to admit the reqeusts, feelings and sentiments of the very same people who got them elected and made these MLA’s what they are today?

Take an example of our MLA who when he was elected by the people for the first time he gave a very good impression of him, he bowed his head down in front of the wishes of his voters, he truly identified himself with the masses as a man coming really from the masses and also he identified himself  with the people who got him elected. The masses showed their happiness by saying “amchea modlo eilo mhonttoch to amkam zai tench kortolo”. But did he do what masses wanted him to do?  No. Those voters who voted for him expected him to listen to the voice of his voters but did he listen? Again No.

In the end he forgot who he was and by ignoring the wishes of his  masses and voters he turned himself another Hitleor and thru this Hitlerism he is now imposing his PDA and ODP on people from our villages. While he is acting like a lion in the jungle showing his fury to subdue everyone as if he is omnipotent he dos not recognise his fury is like a toy in front of the mighty power of the real omnipotent who is capable to reprimand him appropriately.  History tells us how those arrogant harassed the people and  finally faced the worst disaster which is not very far.

My question to those people including one of my brothers who canvassed him like slaves for the last election, why they cannot raise their voices in unison now against his "brute dadagiri" of rejecting people's demands? why all his supporters  are silent now?  Can these people trust a man who destroyed Comunidade land to build his personal financial empire and also to dole a part of it to migrants to strengthen his vote bank? Will such politicians develop Goa for the benefit of future generations? 

I hope better sense will prevail before natural calamity comes for those ignoring people[s sentiments.

IN THE NAME OF ISLAM, I REQUEST FOR FAIR TRIAL FOR MR. RAYAN.

This refers to the latest very hot news in the entire Goan media on the topic of the 500 + years sentence imposed on two Goans in Dubai, one was the owner of the company and the other is the 25 year old employee from Siolim.  

With due respect to the Dubai Judiciary, unfortunately for passing such a lofty sentence on the youthful 25 year old employee of Exential Co., accusing him of collaborating with the top boss of the company in duping the customers, I like to comment as follows based on my layman logic.  

In fact, the young boy Mr. Rayan was promoted to the post of senior accountant just 4 months before he was arrested and in view of this how an employee with 4 months of experience in this field can have access to the minute confidential information of the company? Secondly, Rayan was not in the management segment, the boss is the management who should be aware  of everything and if anybody is to be held responsible  it sould be the person who decides the company’s decisions and not Rayan who is very small man in the company hierarchy.

I can rightly vouch for the innocence of Rayan in this matter, he was either intentionally implicated or forced to confess what he has not done by using unethical, uncivilized, un-Islamic and anti-islamic methods. These crude and stone age harsh methods are normally used by the Gulf countries to extort confession from the accused and having no option the accused surrenders by accepting what he has not done. I don’t think Islam approves such cruel treatment especially when Prophet Mohammed himself ordered the release of the Jews caught in the war instead of meting out inhuman treatment to them, as expected by their captors.  If the methods used to extort the confession from Rayan are wrong then it will be an unIslamic act promoted in the Islamic country by the Islamic Judiciary which is surely going against their Islamic principles and  doctrine.

 

It is my right as per the Islamic doctrine to fight for the rights of Rayan when I feel he is innocent.  When we raise his issue for justice then we are fighting for justice for him in the name of Islam by quoting Prophet Mohamed as mentioned below:

When Prophet Mohammed was asked once, “when there will be justice in this world?” Replied Prophet immediately saying “When everyone of us will gather courage to fight against the injustice committed on to others as if that injustice is committed on to us only, then and then only there will be justice in this world” concluded the Prophet.

Dubai in UAE is an Islamic country and being so it is a member of Oganisation of Islamic Conference and as such it is governed also by the Shariat Laws which gives ample of  freedom for the accused to defend himself.  However, some member countries flout these rules as done earlier by Iraq under Saddam Hussein and Iran under Ayatollya Khomeini resulting in delivering of harsh punishment to the accused wherein even the Advocate of the accused found playing the role of a conspirator. This was done in Kuwait when Francis Araujo from Kalafura was sentenced for gallows in early 1990.  Some of the Advocates in the Gulf countries are unreliable who are treating Indian clients with total irresponsibility and negligence.

Hence, those supporting Rayan must hire a new and competent lawyer who will be faithful to his client and fight this case all over again. I have no trust in the verdicts delivered by the Islamic Courts. Hence, it is imperative that this particular case has to be brought for review otherwise innocent Rayan will die a miserable death. And if one innocent Rayan goes, what matters to them?  After all Rayan however innocent he may be but in the eyes of Gulf Arabs who man the Dubai Judiciary, is just a Hindi Muskin.  This tag must not be allowed to apply to Rayan.

NEW TIATRO "TUKAIM TENCH ASSA" BY SHARON MAARELLO.

With the participation of seasoned seniormost Tiatrists who earlier during their golden era, dazzled the Konkani Stage audience and thus kept the Konkani Tiatros alive, staged their Tiatro “TUKAIM TENCH ASSA’, written and directed by the excellent female artiste and melodious singer Sharon Mazarello. Script wise and performance wise the Tiatro was excellent giving excellent credit to the lady writer and director. I can rightly say that this is one of the best Tiatros of the season and Side Show wise it was too good where not only excellent songs were rendered but they were rendered with the melodious voices by all the singers, mainly by Fatima, Josephine, Platilda, Jessie Dias, Sharon, C. D’Silva, Ortencio, Sucurro de St. Cruz and others, many of them with encores.

 It is a great to see Fatima still maintaining the sweetness of her yesteryear sweet voice so beautifully, so too Josephine whose one beautiful canto compensated the full amount of your ticket.  She also excelled well in the trio with jessy and Platilda. All the songs of Jessy Dias created an excellent feeling like the Trio and Quarter and the beautiful Duet with C. D’Silva thus bringing back the old memories when she was singing attractive duets with C. Alvares.  Fittingly, she is called the “Mae” of Konkani Stage having served the Konkani Stage for such a long period with distinction and still capable to serve more. Almost all the females and males too who participated in this Tiatro are capable to serve the Konkani Stage for more years and I feel their seasoned services should be utilized by the current directors instead of going for novices who lack some basics. Though they may be ageing but their performance is not ageing, it still is having its evergreen freshness.

 The performance of script writer and director Sharon Mazarello was like the captain’s inning in Cricket Test, her opening song along with beautifully high pitched singer Sucurro de St. Cruz introducing all the artistes participating in this Tiatro created totally a charming impact on the Tiatro, besides her solo and duets with Victor D’Cunha and also with her husband Wilmix were fantastic.   The major part of the admiration was focused on the once Queen and still the queen of comedy Bai Platilda who did not lose an inch of her smartness of keeping the audience happy especially with her comments in Portugues.

Her flow of words from her mouth and her way of singing were so attractive that she made the audience spellbound throughout her entire performance.  And moreover she was very much liked by the audience. I dont think there is anybody on Konkani Stage now who cold emulate her and outbeat  her, she was the product of the group of stalwarts who mesmerised the audience in Sixties, namely M.Dod de Verna, Airistedes Dias, Tony Sax, Luis Rod, Conception, Jacinto Vaz and others.  She developed her art and confidence in the constellation of the great stars who helped her to mould her art. When she first time entered the professional stage I saw her at Mapusa with total innocence on her face and all over her body with beauty spread all over her face. She was the admiration and attraction of the then young  boys like me and as a matter of fact I still admire her.

This Tiatro as a reward for this group somebody must take it to the Gulf and to other parts of the world including USA.  I am sure some of my former colleagues in Kuwait who are still on forefront to organize such Tiatros must come forward to take the entire troupe to Kuwait and as usual simultaneously to other parts in the Gulf.  I hope Manuel, Felix and Dominick Araujo and others are reading what I am writing here. I also hope Tony Gonsalves and my earlier colleague in Kuwait Xavier Arauo will do something in UK.

Te story is surrounded mainly on Father and daughter, the role of the father was nicely done by 80 + years old C . D’Silva who still looks active and Fatima who missed none of her earlier attributes to keep the audience spellbound. I came across in the Hall some of her admirers who enjoyed every bit of her acting. Fatima always argues and verbally fights with her father on any silly ground as if she is infallible.  For this she receives a befitting answer saying “ TUKAIM TENCH ASSA” at an appropriate time.

Wilmix whom I saw for the first time playing the role of a comedian was at his best where his performance was superb.  The other roles played by the great Sabeena and Josephine were worth admiring. It is great to see every artiste performed his role well and hence I convey my congratulations to the director Bai Sharon Mazarello who with her majestic personality received enermous amount of goodwill from the attendees.  I also congratulate each and every artiste some of whom inspte of being so aged performed so well.  Congratulations to the Musicians as well.

NEW TIATRO "KONNANK PATIEUPACHEM ?" BY FRANCIS DE TUEM.

Yesterday, 9^th of this month, at Panjim Kala Academy Hall, starting at 3.00 PM, I saw the new Tiatro     ” KONNANK PATIEUPACHEM?” written and directed by Francis de Tuem and was attended by the Hall packed audience.  However, those who missed the chance to see this Tuatro yesterday, they can see it on 11^th of this month at the same venue.

Today in the Tatro field, Francis de Tuem is the name and fame just as the late M. Boyer was during his hey days. The greatness of M. Boyer was concentrated on his script and direction which was flawless and matching with his dignity and also decency. M. Boyer would not introduce any vulgarity in his Tiatros nor words and statements having double meaning.  Neither he would induct in his  Tiatros cheap and third class artistes in his Tiatros. He was very choosy in his selection. Precisely because of this and his dignified script his Tiatros were attended by the innumerable dignified people and not vulgar cheap.

Why M. Boyer only, take for example J.P. Souzalin, C. Alvares, Alexinho de Candolim, Dr. Simon C. Fernandes and many other top grade scripts writers and directors they always maintained their dignified position otherwise they would not create a niche for them in the top grade. They allowed the money to escape from their pockets but they never allowed their dignity and honour to escape from their dignified life. They would not keep closer even to their shadow those who take pleasure in displaying vulgarity and indecency from the Stage.

After its birth, during the first 25 years Tiatro remained in the hands of dignified artistes but during the second 25 years Tiatros went (to quote Pai Titrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes) into the hands of many of the ROSTAD Tiatrists who introduced besides other low caliber scripts and songs, vulgarity and double meanings words and statements. These were the Tiatrists who had no proper parental discipline at home because they had no proper parents to control their discipline. It is precisely because of this degradation of Tiatro to such a low level that the high caliber audience refrained from patronizing Tiatros.

This lowliness and degradation of Tiatro was seen more in the Comedy part where to impress upon the audience to make them laugh, the third class comedians started using vulgar and double meaning words which would satisfy the thirst of the third class audience.  Comedians like Jacinto Vaz would make the audience laugh by just standing on the Stage without even uttering a word nor moving an inch forward.

But todays comedians if not all then at least most of them especially the youngsters would use all foul words and double meaning words full of vulgarity as I have seen yesterday in Francis de Tuem’s Tiatro. The main play and the story of the Tiatro  was well written and very well enacted by all the artistes specially by Roshan, Marcus Vaz and his other two colleagues in the Azilo so also by the one who played the role of his son coming from USA.

However, the excellent role in the whole Tiatro was played by the excellent female artiste and one of the “lokhpriya” of Konkani Stage Aplon who played the role of a Nun. Her presentation and appropriate dress code and expression brought her role to the pedestal.

In the Side Show songs, Roshan’s Solo a sort of romantic one, based on the tune of Bollywood song was as beautiful and attractive as her beautiful attractive appearance.  Her duet which she rendered with Peter where they decry the habit of naming the Bars and Tavernas after the holy Saints was worth admiring.   Francis de Tuem’s  political solos were of high grade. The quarter of Marcus Vaz, Xavier Gomes, Lawry Travasso and Jr. Francis de Tuem was rendered. Though Jr. Tuem attracted lot of goodwill for this song yet it was well composed and meant to be rendered seriously as per the serious contents of the song.

My admiration goes to both the artistes who  imitated Churchill Alemao, Ravi Naik, Vijay Sardesai and Daulicar.  They have indicated their high calibre prowess in imitating the indicated politicians. The way they dressed, the way they talked and walked and the way they imitated the mentioned politicians, they they did a great job. Bravo to them.
