GOAN FOOTBALL - IN GOA & KUWAIT ...VI
Now in few months time a new committee will be elected to run the KIFF. What type of representatives each club will send in KIFF? Knowledgeable in soccer or idiots and revengeful persons? Will they send as their representatives persons who know about soccer and who played competitive soccer in their life time or just idiots who does not know anything of soccer? My regret is this that any Altu-Faltu shamelessly volunteers to join KIFF without knowing much of soccer. These idiots Altu-Faltu don’t even feel ashamed to come forward when they lack basic knowledge of soccer laws. How can a carpenter fit into a group of masons? Or is it the craze for cheap publicity to be an office bearer of the organization? Or is it a craze for cheap publicity in the local press with photographs? There are sayings in Konkani “Kharveank Nhoi Khuim Ghorvam ani Rendrank Nhoim Tarvam”. "Har Nachta Mhontlear Ghaindoi Nachlear Zaina". When cheap people go for cheap publicity thru cheap photographs, they look like cheap cartons. In fact they are cartons only and will remain as such because this is a good place for getting cheap publicity for cheap people.
The biggest contributory factor in the promotion of our soccer was the enermous publicity we get in the local media. Also in Goan media and on Internet. Thanks to both the local Arab Times and Kuwait Times, I made use of local media to maximise the publicity of our soccer from the beginning itself and from there it got a strong base for others to follow. I dont think anywhere in the Goan world such a vast publicity is given for our Goan soccer and also for any of our other Goan activities. This has happened because A. Veronica Fernandes is only one and that too he is in Kuwait only. Kuwait Press is unique and very co-operative in this aspect. In Goa West Coast Times, Herald, Goa Post, Novem Goem, Goycho Mog, Gulab, Goa Today, Konkan Mail, Bombay's Goa Times, Cine Times and Goan Review were all very supportive in pemirtting me to give exhaustive coverage for our soccer and other activities. Unfortunately recently undeserving people are getting publicity because publicity seekers have penetrated into our activities and to get their photographs and other type of publicity they will do anything, some of them will even dole their wives to the writers. So shameless are these people. They want to prove especially in Goa and for Goan community that they are prominent people amongst Goans. Beyond Goan community nobody looks at their photos, they are the Monarchs only of what they survey within their four wall. Otherwise in reality they are cheap coming from cheap background back home and to display their cheap background they go for cheap publicity. This cheap publicity itself identifies their cheap background. Actually they are not capable of doing anything worthwhile for the cause of community or society as a whole. Good that they are in Kuwait to get everything cheaply for their cheap promotion. Back home in the local Press they are not worth an inch of a publicity and who cares for them in Goa and back home?
We have innumerable Organisations in Kuwait in the fields of Soccer and Social activities. These Organisations are manned by Presidents and other office bearers. By looking at their peers in their Organisations you will wonder that they are somebody who can think and act great especially for the cause of Goa. But in reality it is not so. With the exception of few whom you can count on your finger tips, the rest are impotent to work for the cause of community and Goa. In the history of Goans in Kuwait, Vincente D'Souza did play a very good role for the promotion of Goan causes. He was not a member of any football club. The issues and the initiiatives that he took for the cause of Goa and community were indeed great and what these initiatives are already disclosed by me earlier in this seris. When I came to Kuwait first time, he was a well established, well settled and a senior member of our community. Though he had his colleagues yet they were just dummies compared to his excellence.
Now coming back to my era in Kuwait, I got myself involved in all the main movements started and initiated in Kuwait for the cause of Goa and Goans. I was involved in the campaign for the promotion of Goa Cancer Hospital at Dona Paula, Direct Flight from Kuwait to Dabolim and Gulf Goans Hotels Company - all were the initiatives of Vincente D'Souza. I took very active part in Gulf Goan Hotels Co. and Direct Flight. I am the only person who on my own went to Delhi and campaigned for the cause of Direct Flight. My efforts surely were also responsible for getting Direct Flight for us and to prove this I have in my possession a letter from Indian Aviation Minister. While for Gulf Goans Hotels Co., I have contributed a lot and did the pushing within my capacity, I am its share holder and was founder Director. Konkani Movement in Kuwait was totally my initiative backed by almost all. Novem Goem Pratishthan Kuwait Somiti was purely my baby backed by our supporters. Formation of Kuwait Konknni Kendr was purely my initiative supported by my collaegues. Konkani Heritage Kuwait I co-oauthored. Goa - Kuwait Solidarity Centre was purely my initiative supported by the lovers of Kuwait. When I was involved in so many activities as partner, member or as initiator, most of the people who are now on forefront as office bearers of so many of our organisations were nowhere even though many of them were here during those days and they are still in Kuwait. To be a part of my activities one has to have real calibre, real character, real dedication, real unselfishness. In my activities there is transparency and no cheating. In my activites there is no room for "Chors" to rob money. In my activities there is no self promotion at the cost of others. In my activities there is no cheap publicity. In my activities there is ample room for intellectually advanced people. And only because of these attributes all my movements gained success, namely, Konkani Movement - resulting in getting recognition for Konkani and Statehood for Goa; Novem Goem Pratishthan resulting in starting of Novem Goem Daily; Kuwait Konknni Kendr - resulting in maintaining Konkani's Voice loudly and forcefully amongst the expatriates Goans, there is not a single organisation of this type anywhere in the world amongst Goans; Goa - Kuwait Solidarity Center resulting in gaining maximum benefits for Goans from Kuwait and Kuwaitis. Besides, by my partnership co-operation we gained the benefit of Direct Flight from Kuwait - Goa and vice versa; realisation of the construction of Hotel Goan Heritage; realisation of Konkani Heritage Kuwait thru which abundant help for the suffering maids was rendered; realisation of the formation of Goan Welfare Society.
Currently do we have people in our community to rise to the occasion and give leadership and direction to do something worthwhile for Goans and for Goa? Are our current Goans associated in their respective organisations capable of doing something great or they will think of running away to the West especially to Canada? First of all do the current peers of our Associations have love for Goa, its language, its history, its tradition and its culture? Are our Social Organisations really serving our social and charitable causes? Sometimes one is getting afraid to mix up for our Socials because they depict and display all vulgarity and "soro". One case to cite: Last KIFF Social. Another case: Drunkerdness and Vulgarity for Goa Day functions. These are only two examples. For these functions you see nothing but unGoan activities and regretfully these unGoan activities are organised in the name of Goa and Goans. The name of Goa is become very tasty to promote unGoanness. When such activities are promoted and when people accept them blindly then how one could get upright and good stalwarts to guide our community in right direction? How such organisations will create right person to fight for the right causes of the community? Arent we aware of the scandal of famous Goan Society's 30 thousand Dinars duping scandal by 3 persons? That they are "chors" even a case was filed by one of their partners against them and yet they move in society as full fledged human beings without any shame. And incidentally the same "Chors" are again brought back on their previous chairs by the "chori" loving members because "Chors" like "Chors". Again incidentally these "chori" loving Goans are also shameless. They want support of "chors" to get something for their personal benefits from the "Chors" leaders otherwise upright and good persons will never support "Chors". Only the "Chors" will support "Chors". Hence, in my view Kuwait Goan community will not be able to produce great men with great heart and with great mind to fight for the future causes of Goa. This is the tragedy. Unless Sunami type of situation takes place in our midst and all the "Chors" and "Bamttes" are uprooted from our midst and their places are totally filled by the new crop. Otherwise some miraculous changes should take place. Amongst the current so called fake leaders in our community the attitude is like this: "Mojem Makam Meulea Puro", the rest go to hell.
Coming back to KIFF election, let it be know to everyone, I am not an official member of any current soccer clubs and as such I am not allowed to be in KIFF. Yet some people blame me for influencing the elections of KIFF thru my writings. This is not correct. KIFF is too small an organisation for me to meddle with thru remote control. Its members and office bearers are too tiny to challenge my intellctual capacity. I have much better things to do. But I support its activities because it is required to run our soccer. I have worked for its formation, I have worked for its initiative and as such I want it to run smoothly. Let it run without anybody blaming me as the below mentioned incident discloses.
Once, the Bebdo President was defeated in the election for KIFF presidency. Immediately he came home and took up the Battli and started drinking till he finished it. Then he dialed my number at night time and started abusing me for not helping him to get elected. I said “how can I get you elected and how can I elect you when I myself is nobody in KIFF?” Then he said “all your friends in the KIFF voted against me”. Then I said “Am I responsible for them?” And by the way, I went further " Who said in KIFF I have friends? It is lowering my integrity to have friends in those who got no integrity and human quality". Then his wife took the phone from his hands and profusely apologized to me for her Bebdo husband’s misbehaviour. This is to cite an example how Bebdes are ruling our organizations.
Concluded.

What makes BLACK an E-Cinema?
Highly acclaimed Indian director T-Bush’s full length feature film entitled ‘BLACK’ will mark a milestone in the history of Indian Cinema. It is the first ever Konkani E–Cinema to be made and released in Kuwait. The film produced by T-Bush International Films is set for a Grand Premier on August 10, 2007 at Al Masrah, Hawally Auditorium.
It is sure to be an entertaining film and certain to capture hearts of all communities. The most essential element that will make the film an even more rewarding experience will be the audio-visual effect synchronized into a 5.1 DTS sound. The E-Cinema will be screened on a wide screen with high quality ‘E-Cinema Technology’ projection.
You may wonder why there is this huge hype about BLACK being an E-Cinema. And what exactly is E-Cinema?
The Award Winning Director of the English short film, ‘The Letter’, T-Bush will use the Digital Cinema, electronic cinema or simply e-cinema - the latest buzz words that are used to describe this art. Briefly, Digital cinema is a movie using high quality digital projectors that are brighter and higher resolution versions of video projectors. Feature films with this technology are projected from a ‘hard disk’ based playback equipment instead of the traditional ‘reel prints’.
If we look at the benefits by going Digital we learn that for a producer there are huge savings in the production costs. Whereas a prints cost huge amount of money, a set of DVD-ROMS will cost nominal amount. And what’s more…every print is a perfect copy with better color grading, electronically. As the DVD ROMS cannot be decoded outside a Digital Cinema playback unit it provides a strong safeguard against piracy.
Digital production is faster from finish to release and any number of disks can be made in a day. What’s interesting is the fact that multiple versions of a film can exist with different scenes or extra songs. Films can be edited accurately even after release - by remote control and multiple language sound tracks and multiple language sub-titles can exist at the same time.
To put it in a nutshell, E-Cinema is a relief format that allows extremely HIGH quality final output. The obvious advantage of E-cinema is better quality of images and the ability to calibrate colors.
Filmmaking, nowadays, takes place all over the world using different technologies and techniques, and is produced in a variety of economic contexts that range from government-sponsored documentary to profit-oriented movie making.
Commercial and adventure films employ a cast and crew of thousands and have complicated computer generated imagery, while a low-budget, independent film may be made with a skeleton crew, often paid very little.
Looking through the lens of a camera as actors bring to life a writer's story, the filmmaker is also peering into a world of imagination. The director, producer, actors, screenwriter, and film editor are all essential players in the journey from concept to finished film. In this remarkable process, thousands of small details and often hundreds of people come together to create a film.
T-Bush’s award winning, ‘The Letter’ that won the Best Film at the London Film Festival has all the appearances of being shot in the United States. But the truth is that the entire movie was shot at locales in Kuwait. The new film ‘BLACK’ has a storyline based on a Goan backdrop and Indian traditions but T-Bush has used all the outdoor locales for the film in Kuwait.
The filmmaking production of any movie cycle consists of Development, Pre-production, Production, Post-production, Distribution, etc. Development is the stage where an idea is fleshed out into a viable script. The producer of the movie will find a story, which may be from books, other films, true stories, original ideas, etc. Once the theme, or underlying message, has been identified, a synopsis is prepared. Films rarely make a profit from the theatrical release alone, therefore DVD sales and worldwide distribution rights need to be taken into account.
On the release of BLACK, however, T-Bush has no immediate intentions of converting the movie into home videos which he feels will degrade the originality and standard of the movie.
In Production, the movie is actually created and shot. Each ‘take’ of a shot follows a slating procedure and is marked on a clapperboard, which helps the editor keep track of the takes in post-production. The clapperboard records the scene, take, director, director of photography, date, and name of the film written on the front, and is displayed for the camera. The clapperboard also serves the necessary function of providing a marker to sync up the film and the sound take. Sound is recorded on a separate apparatus from the film and they must be synched up in post-production.
In Post-production, the film is assembled by the film editor. The first job of the film editor is to build a rough ‘cuts’ taken from sequences (or scenes) based on individual ‘takes’ (shots). The purpose of the rough cut is to select the best shots. Once approved by the director, the picture is ‘locked,’ meaning no further changes are made. After the picture is locked, the film passes out of the hands of the editor to the sound department to build-up the sound track. The voice recordings are synchronized and the final sound mix is created. The sound mix combines sound effects, background sounds, and music. Finally the film is previewed, normally by the target audience, and any feedback may result in further shooting or edits to the film.
“In the Film editing the important thing for me is timing,” says T-Bush speaking about the post-production, “because the film is really fast-moving and you have to have time to allow the audience time to make sense of what they are watching. Creatively speaking, the biggest challenge is not shooting the movie, but to make all the transitions flow into each other so that the viewers would move from scene to scene with their emotional commitment unimpaired. The time-space continuum gets taken right off its hinges without anyone really noticing -- but at the same time it is important not to lose the breathless, driving edge of the story or to allow it to appear as an end in itself.”
Life, T-Bush feels, is the biggest teacher. “What you go through in your life in terms of pain, sorrow, difficulties, etc, changes your perspective to life. Today I'm different. It's a process of growing up which reflects in your work. There was a time when a ‘masala’ film would excite me. Now I think of them as an awkward thing. Now I am more interested in finding out what makes people tick, much more interested in why people live in continuous anxiety. Now I feel stories are about people and their angst. The audience has to know the tragedy of the main characters in any movie. Otherwise you are not involving the audience in your story.”
With the introduction of hi-fi technology, the means of production have become more democratized. Filmmakers can conceivably shoot and edit a movie, create and edit the sound and music, and mix the final cut on a home computer. However, while the means of production may be democratized, financing, and marketing remain difficult. Most independent filmmakers rely on film festivals to get their films noticed and sold for distribution. However, the Internet has allowed for relatively inexpensive distribution of independent films; many filmmakers post their films online for critique and recognition. Although there is little profitability in this, a filmmaker can still gain exposure via the web.
The short film in English, ‘The Letter’ is the only movie that T-Bush has to his credit, but that seems to be enough. ‘The Letter’ turned out to be an International winner among world’s renowned directors. The film won the young director 3 awards at the London Film Festival as Best Director, Best Technical Award and Best Film from among hundreds of directors of International fame and repute. Except for the actors, Grips (helpers), Spot Boys, lyrics and music, the entire production is handled by T-Bush. He is the Writer (dialogues and screenplay), Director (art, costumes, action, cameraman, etc), Editor (sound recordist and special effects) and the Producer of the movie.
T-Bush adds, “In any film, the director's vision shapes the look and feel of a film. He is the creative force that pulls a film together, responsible for turning the words of a script into images on the screen. Actors, cinematographers, writers, and editors orbit around the director like planets around the Sun.”
No cinematographer or film editor, no matter how gifted, can turn a terrible performance into a great one. The right actor can give a screenwriter's words exciting new depth and dimensions. Actors are essential for conveying emotions to an audience, for bringing the words and ideas in a script to life. As actors, they must be able to become many different people. In order to make a character come to life, they must bring to the role those parts of themselves that are similar to the character. Memorizing lines without understanding the role is of little help to the actors. T-Bush has groped in the best Indian talent available in Kuwait to add essence to the characters and presence on the screen.
BLACK is going to be a delight for the audience – an experience for any community, any nationality to come and watch – not just as an entertainment but to see how the movie is actually devised. In a working country like Kuwait where there are few professional Indian actors available, T-Bush has gathered a crew to make a film of international recognition. During the stages of shooting, by and large, it was always the case of someone missing or some actor either out of town or on vacation. If T-Bush had to ‘wrap’ up the shoot for non-availability of artistes on the sets, the movie would never be complete. Then, how was the director able to complete the movie? That’s the area of expertise and hallmark of the T-Bush who is equipped with the latest know-how in the trade.
The young Indian director who is passionate about film making with his adept and innovative ideas is optimistic about ‘BLACK’ being an ‘extraordinary movie’ not just for its story but the way it is portrayed. He says, “The whole story has a simple plot. But for all the briskness of the plot, quite a lot happens.”
Synopsis of BLACK:
The movie revolves around a musician who is involved in trivial assignments of traditional music. Culture and music means everything to the self-born maestro who just cannot give up on his passion for music. His effort to persuade the young genre to keep the art living in the face of fading tradition runs to an emotional zenith as the movie unfolds.”
Behind the scenes and Post Production
In movies, the stars who grace the screen are the most popular faces, but what about people behind the scenes? A film is the result of the blood and toil of more than one person. Usually one only sees the people on the screen and has no ideas who all make the film happen. Right from conceptualizing the idea to transmitting it on the screen a lot of people participate in the filmmaking.
More detail on the main characters in the film and their role will be presented in these pages to keep readers engaged and fully in tune running down to the release. For more on T-Bush International films log on to http://www.t-bush.com/
