"SADAMISATION" OF MANAGERSHIP.

Recently, a few days back, we heard the news that in Haryana, India there was a big trouble of labour unrest at the Maruti – Suzuki Car Manufacturing Plant leading to the burning alive of the HR Manager of the company after breaking his legs besides breaking of the limbs of 30 top officials and injuring of over a hundred. As given to understand because of the labour dispute started with the simple argument between a simple staff and the Labour Manager the matter reached to the highest boiling point. Who is right and who is wrong is not yet clear but one life was lost and huge loss for the company has been incurred. Because of the strong labour union the interest of organised labour in India is protected.

The strength of labour in India is such that the owners of the company, top management and top managers have to be very careful not to antagonise the manpower down below them. Otherwise Haryana type of incidents will occur in greater number. I don’t know the HR Manager really deserved such a ruthless punishment but to maim and kill somebody is wrong. But equally wrong is the habit of the managers to harass the employees and make their life miserable. There are civilised ways to sort out the grievances but excess freedom for labour sometimes leads to such incidents.

Compare the above Haryana incident with our Indian managers in Kuwait who are acting not only as authoritarians but actually many of them are acting like Saddam Husseins. Their only motto with the threat of termination of services and deportation is to create fear into the minds and hearts of the staff working under them. By taking advantage of the favourable Labour Law for them and to protect their interest of receiving unhindered and undeserved excess flow of remunerations for them by squeezing and sucking the blood of the staff working under them these managers create total tension for their staff. I have been a long timer in Kuwait and was working under some of the worst managers whom I cannot compare with civilised human beings but with barbarians. At an appropriate time I will expose them and their maltreatment to their staff. Currently the time is not ripe for this exposure.

Earlier one of my immediate managers was an Indian from South India. The way he was dealing with and treating his staff it looked that he was worst than Saddam Hussein, The only thing he did not have biological weapons at his disposal to burn alive his staff like Saddam Hussein used against Kurds in Iraq. But otherwise his tongue like that of a serpent was worse than the biological weapon inviting curses from his staff not only on him but also on his entire family, of course deservingly as per the natural law of compensation. In his department he created a feeling of a living Hell of course with the silence nod of his Nazi superior, till this South Indian Manager was disgracefully sacked on the spot by his new non-Nazi superior thereby giving peace to the staff. Never before in such a crude manner was an Indian manager unceremoniously dismissed from the job with the words “take your bag and go home immediately”. The South Indian manager for such long time acting like a big hero within a second became a BIG Zero. This is the power of God’s wrath which came slowly but certainly.

Shouting and insulting the staff with threats was his forte thereby creating an image of him of a Monster and a barbarian. A shouting manager is a Donkey manager. An efficient manager will never shout at his staff because he will employ only efficient staff in his department needing no excuse for shouting. By applying unnecessary difficult work methods he used to put fear into his staff minds and hearts so atrociously creating all round tension in them physically and mentally. And being unable to bear it some staff of his suffered from cardiac problems going for bypass surgeries, some suffering from paralytic stroke due to fluctuation in their blood sugar, few of them brain and kidney failure while others some other type of sicknesses. Every staff working under him suffered tension strokes and borne the same silently because of the need of the job since they had financial obligations to fulfil back at home.

This South Indian manager took advantage of his poor staff that they will not retaliate openly because of their poor job conditions. And taking advantage of this situation he treated his staff like goats in front of the knife wielding butcher thereby disgracing his Brahminical Hinduism. In Kuwait there came and gone many Indian Managers but never such a wild beast who harassed his staff for self-satisfaction like a sadist. His managership was a disgrace on India and its nationals in Kuwait. At moment he looked psychotic and mentally deranged because only such persons act in such manner. For this reason Labour Law must prescribe mandatory mental check-up for managerial class of people.

As an Indian it is my duty to expose in BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS the misdeeds of such rascal managers because they do more harm to the people working under them thereby lowering the fair image of Indians in Kuwait. Also, it is the responsibility of Indian Embassy to monitor the activities of such cruel Indian managers and reprimand them accordingly, if necessary even by impounding their Passports. Time is not ripe for me to disclose the identity of this South Indian Manager but at an appropriate time it will be done and it will be done ruthlessly befitting his barbarity he committed against his poor staff. When this is done his wife, children and other relatives will have to put their heads down in shame for having such a dirty man in their midst.

God’s punishment comes lame footed and it will surely come and that time is not very far. God will never give this South Indian Hindu criminal manager an opportunity to go back to his home in India to enjoy the huge wealth he accumulated because he acquired this wealth by torturing the staff working under him and by sucking their innocent blood.

Such Managers when they occupy their managerial chairs they think that they are the Monarchs but sadly they fail to understand that they are the monarchs only of what they survey within the four walls of their offices and departments. Beyond this they are worse than Donkeys having no respect and dignity, they are unsocial and uncultured. For the sake of money they will even sell their wives.

He was harassing his staff to follow his work methods and because of this harassment his staff suffered so miserably while others even died. But he was dismissed on the spot because his top management found his method of work was WRONG. This means the staff whom he harassed was wrongly harassed. In this case who will compensate for all the losses his staff suffered under him for wrongly cracking their brans to follow his wrong methods? Even his method of evaluating the staff performance was fallacious and lopsided while giving increments to the staff. Undeserving staff would get more while others a pittance. And worst still many would not get only. He was never a judicious in this aspect. He would like a drunkard remunerate only a few fabulously while leaving the others as dry as if they are not working.

Would this South Indian manager as mentioned above dare to show his brute power in India even 1 per cent of what he showed in Kuwait? Never. For this reason this country Kuwait is good for him and of his likes to act as Saddam Hussein by taking advantage of the favourable Labour Law. In India such Monster Managers would be not only maimed but ROASTED ALIVE as it was done in Haryana.

It is a shame for his wife to have such a stone hearted husband and for his sons such a wicked father. And if his sons are his real sons then they will teach him a very good lesson for destroying the life and future of the staff working under him.

Generally speaking I found managerial class of people in Kuwait is a corrupt, selfish and looters. During the invasion period of Kuwait many of the companies were looted by their own expatriate managers. They were ungrateful to Kuwait from where they minted money undeservingly. If they had gratitude to Kuwait they would have publicly raised their voices in their countries against the invasion of Kuwait. I did it in Goa, India. It is recorded and documented.

MY TRIBUTE TO THE LATE "ALFRED ROSE" ON HIS 80TH BIRTDAY.

Today 5th August 2012 is the 80th birth anniversary of the late Alfred Rose.

May his soul rest in peace.

I first time saw Alfred Rose on the stage in my village Candolim somewhere in 1958/59 when he participated in C. Alvares’ Tiatro  “Axea”,  Alvares came to Goa at that time with his troupe to stage some shows of Axea and Candolim was one show. Opening song in this tiatro – MANDOVI – MANDOVI – both in Konkani and in English as well,  was rendered by Alfred Rose who was as handsome as his handsome voice. He looked very youthful and attractive while rendering his solo with perfect confidence that dazzled the capacity crowd attending this show. In the front Row some Portuguese Military Officers from Aguada occupying the front seats behind the Musicians and who came on complimentary Passes only to listen to his melodious voice were full of admiration for this great iconic singer. The glowing facial appearances of these Portuguese were telling me that they were all thrilled to listen to Alfred Rose’s angelic voice. Earlier they heard on Radio his beautiful voice and when they came to know that he is coming to Candolim, they spoke to my father for the tickets but instead my father offered them Passes. This was the first Tiatro in Candolim using Mike system otherwise always without Mike system.

Alfred Rose was the man of perfection and personally used to see for himself before his song that everything is arranged as per his direction. He had vast knowledge of Konkani Tiatro, its origin and originators as well. Much of the history of Tiatro and elder tiatrists he knew personally and thru his tiatrist father A. M. B. Rose. His great ambition was to create history by creating something new as a tiatrist. He was the initiator of first Non-Stop Tiatro; he was the first Tiatrist to produce the first Konkani Audio Cassette; he was the first professional tiatrist to produce books of his songs including with Solfas, many of these songs are recorded while some not and many from these unrecorded some are very precious and historical.  Some Bom Samaritans with the consent of Rita Rose must come forward to complete this unfinished work; he was the first professional tiatrist to have his own Band “Rosebuds” under his leadership; he was the first Goan visiting tiatrist to stage his two Tiatros in Kuwait in 1975 along with his beautiful looking wife Rita and if I am not mistaken he was the first Tiatrist to be a “Romansi” writer.

When he staged his Tiatros in the Kuwait Church Hall people came to see these Tiatros as if they are coming for the Feast many of them with elegant dress like Tie and Suit. For many attending to these Tiatros and seeing him live on the stage singing and acting means a big honour. One of his solos “Dona Paula” was an instant hit. He was then ably supported in acting by the then handsome artiste Francis de Verna doing the hero’s role opposite to Rita, Edmund Fernandes, John Dias, Francis de Parra and besides others by Tony Cal who was instrumental in bringing Alfi and Rita to Kuwait.

Konkani Tiatro owes him much for popularizing Tiatro among Goans and Konkani people. During the first 25 years of Tiatro this art was handled by the decent and knowledgeable tiatrists. Then it went into the hands of some Rostad tiatrists – to quote Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes – where Stage was used for “Zupattis” and vulgarity by some “Bebde” tiatrists. Then genius tiatrist like Minguel Rod appeared on the scene to give bright and Shakespearean colour to Tiatros and because of whom decent audience re-started coming to watch the Tiatros. Then like a bright Star from nowhere Alfred Rose appeared on the Stage whose wisdomatic songs full of knowledge and some in English created a totally different outlook of our Tiatro. Educated and highly sophisticated class of Goans started flooding to see him singing live on the stage thereby magnifying the image of Tiatro. It was Alfred Rose who gave westernized and Anglicized touch to Konkani songs and Konkani Tatro. His catchy English tunes easily attracted the young and modern fans and audience for Konkani Tiatros.

Thru his song "Bela - Bela" he immortalised Calangute.  It has a history behind it.  By nature Alfred Rose  was a poet and for that matter he was the romantic poet. This he released thru the form of songs. Bela-Bela was one.  It was a Saturday he came for strollong on the Calangute Beach. He  at that time was very attractive and charismatic, many girls were aspiring to talk to him.  While walking on the beach he suddenly saw a very beautiful Calangute girl looking at him romantically. He resonded thru his eyelids but unfortunately in the huge crowd on the beach this local girl disappeared. Shocked and dismayed, Alfred Rose came home and on that same night he composed this song which he rendered on the next night Tiatro at Candolim with full of romantic feelings.

Among the professional Konkani tiatrists he had the unique distinction to render two songs live on Kuwait TV, one of it was a duet with his pretty looking wife Rita. He visited many parts of the world including Europe and America to entertain the Konkani audience. Kuwait he visited many times and on one occasion he was honoured along with his wife in one of the city hotels by Kuwait Konknni Kendr.

Among all the expatriate Goans he singled out for especial mention the Kuwait Goans for their big heartedness towards the promotion of Konkani. In this connection he pointed out with great admiration the great work of Kuwait Konknni Kendr towards Konkani cause.

A few months before his death, while going on vacation I stopped over at Bombay especially to see him and meet him since Roses were good friends of mine. But what to see? His wife brought him on Wheel Chair in their parlour where I was seated. When he saw me he immediately recognized me and started crying bitterly, he was unable to speak yet he was murmuring something in sign language telling me to pray for him. Seeing him thus I hugged him tightly and we both started crying and I am still crying recollecting that day.

May the heavenly God keep him in His Kingdom.

LUNCH AND REFRESHMENTS AT ORIENTATION FOR MLAs COST TAX PAYERS RS 2, 13, 225

By Aires Rodrigues

The lunch and refreshments served at the two day orientation
programmme conducted for Goa’s MLAs on June 8th and 9th has cost the
tax payer Rs 2, 13, 225. This has been revealed in the information
obtained under the RTI Act from the Goa Legislature Secretariat.

The total expenses on the orientation programme amounted to Rs 4,
87,880 of which Rs 1, 25,550 was spent on Air Tickets for the guest
speakers and Rs 25,000 on the honorarium paid to them while another Rs
53,265 was spent on Hotel accommodation. Rs 14,190 on Mementos given
to guest speakers while Rs 42,450 was spent on Printing, Stationery,
folders and banner. The Video recording cost Rs 8,000 while the flower
bouquets for the occasion cost Rs 6,200.

The Legislature Secretariat has informed that there is no record of
which MLAs attended the orientation programme as no attendance of
those attending was taken. The current 40 member Goa Legislative
Assembly has 19 first time MLAs.

The faculty who addressed the orientation programme were Vinay
Sahasrabuddhe and Umesh Upadhya both RSS leaders, Dr. Subhash Kashyap
former Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Mr. Shankar Narayan, Additional
Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and Advocate General of
Goa Mr. Atmaram Nadkarni. Interestingly the file notings doe not give
the designation or any details of the two RSS leaders Vinay
Sahasrabuddhe and Umesh Upadhya who were invited and hosted by the
State. Surprisingly despite the central government’s directions that
all officials should travel only by economy class, Mr. Shankar
Narayan of CAG which is India’s Supreme Audit Institution traveled by
business class with his airfare from Delhi to Goa and back costing the
Goa Government Rs 60,722.

The records show that the Goa Government also paid Rs 8678 towards
airfare of a BJP leader Mr. Ravindra Sathe from Bombay to Goa and back
besides Rs 10,767 for his stay at Hotel Mandovi. The records show he
shared the room at Hotel Mandovi with another BJP leader Mr. Atul
Bhatkhalkar. It is however not known as to what was the role of Mr.
Sathe and Mr. Bhatkhalkar at the orientation programme and neither do
their names figure in the list of dignitaries approved by the Goa
Government.

The file notings reveal that the Goa Legislature Secretariat had
proposed that the two day orientation be conducted in the Legislature
complex at Porvorim. However this was over ruled by Speaker Mr.
Rajendra Arlekar who directed without giving any reasons that the
programme be held at Hotel Mandovi at Panaji and that the dignitaries
be housed at Marriots. It is also not known why the dignitaries were
later accommodated at Hotel Mandovi.

The documents obtained under the RTI further reveal that five MLA’s
chose to spend the night of June 8th at Hotel Mandovi at the tax
payer’s expense despite the orientation being held only from 10 to 4
pm. Of the five MLAs who stayed at the hotel, Sanvordem MLA Ganesh
Gaonkar topped the list with his room bill for the night being 15,123
while the room bill of Industries Minister Mahadev Naik and Sports
Minister Ramesh Tawdkar was Rs 2620. Deputy Speaker Anant Shet’s bill
was Rs 2972 while Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida’s bill came to Rs 4464.

One wonders as to why the orientation programme was not held at the
Assembly complex as was proposed. The amount spent on lunch and
refreshments being very exorbitant, it needs to be probed whether
alcohol was also unofficially served at tax payer’s expense.

Why were the guest speakers flown in when there are enough highly
competent secular persons in Goa who could have ably guided the MLAs
on legislative rules and procedures.

Every paisa from the State exchequer has to be judiciously spent. This
government which had promised a Parivartan has started its innings on
a wrong footing by squandering 11 lakhs of tax payer’s money on its
swearing in ceremony held on 9th March this year at SAG grounds at
Panaji.
