ADEUS DOMNICK - ADEUS ZUZARI GOENKARA.

Tiracol is one of the beautiful spots of Goa where there is a wonderful Fort facing the beautiful sea.  This land is gifted with different types of fruits mainly the Caju and medicinal plants.  It was in 1959 when I was a small boy I saw this place first time, it was during our Portuguese School excursion trip to this area.  Three years back when I was on my annual vacation from Kuwait I came to this area for the wedding of one of our neighbours who got married to a girl related to the late Domnick de Teracol.  While raising the Toast he rendered such a beautiful song especially composed on the subject that I had no choice but to hug him and congratulate him. Then he asked me my name and when I did so, he too hugged me recognizing me as a writer who wrote exhaustively on Tiatros and songsters.  He was a very well-known singer during his earlier days, composing good songs and rendering them with his mellifluent voice. Thru Tiatro and songs he showed his love for Konkani, Goa and his locality Terakol.  Terakol is a small village comprising about 400 inhabitants residing in about 100 houses.  Almost all the residents of Terakol are Catholics living as strong homogenous entity.

Today in the morning I along with Dalvi visited Terakol to Domnick’s place to offer our condolences to his family members, one of his sons who is a priest is scheduled to reach Goa tomorrow morning from Rome for the funeral fixed at 3.00 PM tomorrow, 13^th inst. As per my information, on Thursday 9^th inst. in the morning he had a pain in his chest because of this he was taken to a private Hospital in Mapusa, conducted all the necessary tests satisfactorily.  However, by 5 PM his situation worsened and late in the same evening he breathed his last.

In his life he was always a fighter from the Konkani Stage singing songs against injustice in Goan social life and of late he fought a strong battle against the Leading Hotels that is snatching the land from his village Terakol thru fraudulent means.  Before his death according my information he told his son “I will rather prefer to cut my hands than to surrender my rights to Leading Hotels Co.”.  He even advised his son never to surrender to the Leading Hotels Co.

As per my conversation I found his son and others very sincere to their cause and they will never surrender to the Leading Hotels Co. advances.  However, to fortify their hands it is also our duty as Goans spread not only all over Goa and India but also all over the World to support the Terakol villagers in their fight against the Leading Hotels.  If it is for Terakol today then tomorrow it can be for any other village in Goa.  As it is I have already seen with my own eyes how the Leading Hotels Company with the help of the hired goondas and Bouncers forcibly made a road for their vehicles, of course illegally.  They have even hired a Dada from Andra to threathen to locals from opposing their project.  We have to challenge this non Goan now only by uniting all Goans from everywhere.

Goa based Goans must support the Terkol locals by joining them physically in opposing this project and Goans based in USA must use their contacts to approach the parent company of Leading Hotels in USA and inform  them of the violations their subsidiary are conducting in Goa.  Many Goans in USA are on high positions and they must act now.

Next election is coming now soon and every true Goan must make this Terakol issue as one of the main election issues.  We must not elect the party that is responsible for the Terakol fiasco.    

The late Domnick de Terakol according to one source was deeply shocked when he got the news of Bouncers taking possession of his village and this shock deteriorated his health condition.  He died in fighting for the cause of Goa.  Let us resolve to stand by his wish to support the Terakol villagers against Leading Hotels and Goa government by defeating it in the next election.

May the soul of Domnick the Terakol rest in peace.

TIATRO "MODLI VATT"

 

NEW TIATRO "MODLI VATT"

The first Show of the new Tiatro “MODLI VATT” written and directed by Irineu Gonsalves was staged today, 11h of this month, at Hanuman Theatre, Mapusa, starting at 4.45 PM and ending at 7.15 PM.  Minus the Balcony, the hall was packed to capacity.  Based on the last Tiatro of Irineu, I was expecting this Tiatro will be an exceptional but my expectation failed me.

Though the concept of the story is very good as none showed in the past yet it was found wanting in something somewhere.  May be because it was the first Show and if it is so then I hope later on it will improve a lot.  Side Show songs were  not up to the previous level since some of the ace singers who are become darlings of the audience were missing today.  Inspite of their photos published in the newspaper and on Tickets,  Jessica and Xavier Gomes were absent.  Neither the director disclosed the reason of their absence.  The musical score provided by Norman Cardoso was producing loud sound thereby preventing the audience from listening to what is rendered by the artistes though the Mike system is very bad in that Hall  is the different matter

Comedywise it was not up to the mark though veteran John D’Silva tried to give an extra punch but it was all noisy unnecessarily. The system of shouting loudly by the recent  comedians is simply creating nuisance of the Tiatro.  The great comedians of yesteryears namely Jacinto Vaz, Anthony Mendes, Kid Boxer and Jepsis Hitler never used to shout to make the audience laugh. Just their presence itself on the Stage was  enough for the audience to laugh and enjoy even though they uttered no words from their mouths. That was the greatness of those comedians who were called natural comedians.  With their demise the bones of natural comedians were interred in their graves possibly never to reborn again.

“Modli Vatt” as interpreted in this Tiatro is the middle course to decide and settle the contentious issues. And how it was implemented it was nicely shown in this Tiatro.  To witness its implementation one has to personally see this Tiatro which is going to be staged all over Goa.  Irineu has taken lot of pains to bring this concept live on the Stage and all the artistes participated in enacting  this concept deserve compliments mainly Wilson Mazarello, Sharon, Precilla, Sylvester Vaz and others

FOR ARROGANT CONGRESS CANDIDATES.

“Once beaten, twice shy”, goes the saying and based on this the Congress Party in Goa  decided to expel former party rebels recently so that there will be no more problems from these rebels who shamelessly leave the party and return back like Pimps. This expulsion was expected a long time back but better late than never.  Luizinho Faleiro the party chief deserved compliments for taking such a bold decision.  At least now he indicated his toughness.

It is not enough to expel the party rebels to brighten the hopes of the party for the next election; Congress party under Luizinho Faleiro must also be bold enough to take another bold decision to deny the defeated candidates tickets for the next election.  It is these candidates who spoiled the chances of Congress Party to regain the power.  All the defeated Congress candidates  lost the last election because of their very bad records as MLS’s and ministers in which capacities they acted as Maharajas, as Hitlers and as looters.  Most of them acted like “Dadas” and revengeful monsters against their opponents in their respective constituencies. The weight of the sins of some of them was so heavy that they will have no guts to show their faces again to the voters.  Even by chance they approach the people for votes, I am sure many of the voters will spit on their faces.

See the way some of the defeated Congressmen are living, most of them are still living the life of Maharajas with 5 Star facilities and by owning the foreign brand cars costing crores of rupees.  See the way some of them are spending for expensive sex and after their concubines of different variety.  From where they amassed such a huge wealth?  What were their remunerations as MLA’s and Ministers to acquire such a gigantic financial power?  It is surely by looting the public.  When they live the life of such fantastic luxuries like Maharajas, how they will identify themselves with the common people?  And yet they harp on Congress socialism. 

 

Our defeated Congressman says that he is also a commoner but in reality he failed to identify himself with common folks.  How he can identify himself with the common people when he is moving in his car costing over a crore of rupees?  When he owns Hotels and properties worth crores of rupees, how he can identify himself with the common people?  Common people are not roaming in expensive cars and they are not owning Hotels and properties.   

For allotting the party tickets, Luizinho Faleiro must declare openly the source of the wealth of every Congress candidate.  And while doing this Faleiro must first declare his source because “charity begins at home”.

Finally Congress party in Goa must openly declare its intention on VIP culture.  Will it follow the VIP culture if it wins the election?  If Congress Party wants to win the next election, then it must surrender the VIP culture it has inherited from the Britishers. None of the Congress Ministers must stay at Altinho in Panjim like a Maharaja, every Congresmen must lead a simple life as a commoner. Simultaneously, Luizinho Faleiro must declare whether the elected members of Congress party either MLA’s or Ministers will act like Hitlers with the common men or as humble public servants.

I hope Luizinho Faleiro as a party chief will declare the party intention on this.
