TIATRO "POLICE OFFICER" BY SAMMY TAVARES.

On Sunday, 21^st of this  month, at Kala Academy Hall, Panjim, starting exactly at 3.30 PM, I saw the new Tiatro “POLICE OFFICER” written and directed by the Deputy Suptd. of Goa Police, Sammy Tavares.

It was a full house show that got irritated in the beginning of the second session due to lack of supply of Air-conditioning in the hall.  This is the second such incident that the Hall management is committing by  ignoring its responsibility of not shouldering its task towards providing proper Air conditioning in the hall.  It looks Kala Academy is doing a favour, KA must know that  it is charging an exorbitant rent for the supply of hall with all the required amenities.  Its management must stop acting childish and irresponsible.

The story of the Tiatro is something different from what normally we see in most of the Tiatros in the sense that it revolves around the mischief committed by one Police Officer (Franky) against the other (Tari) to quench his (Franky’s)  thirst of revenge against his superior (Tari). Franky no doubt as usual did his part well but his expressions with raised voice and without proper clarity should be amended.   It is good that the Police Officer himself discloses the mischief committed by the Policemen in Uniform and since it is coming from the pen of the top cop, people will surely appreciate it.  Since this is just the beginning and this Tiatro is going to be staged all over Goa and even abroad, I decline to further elaborate the story for people to see for themselves.

It is worth admiring that the other side, that is the better side of the Policeman is also indicated thereby creating a balance between the two. Policemen since Portuguese time are considered as third class creatures because many of them are committing third class acts.  During the Portuguese time, most of the Goans looked down on this job and profession because in this profession you are encouraged to behave like a third class especially when you are of low category. Normally Policeman are known to be harsh, cruel, filthy, sexually perverted, bribe extortionists and having afflicted with all the vices.  For this reason decent families used to discourage  their sons from joining the Police Force

The best role in the play was played by Tari as top Police Officer in which he depicted himself as the real Police Officer, his posture, talk, walk and acting was perfect.   The young lady (Jenice) who acted with him as his wife has done her role well. A small but excellent role played by Lawry Travasso in the Police Station where he was tortured for committing the robbery deserves highest compliments, tears were seen rolling down the cheeks of many in the hall, including mine. The role of the Drug pedler played by Justiano was extremely appropriate. Thru this role, he indicted to everyone that he is capable to do any such roles.

The comedy part was handled by Comedians Sally and Joana, though it was enacted well yet it lacked the required punch, however Comedian Joana did her level best to raise its standard.

However, the the double meaning words used by Joana as “Burak” for Urrak was not palatable.  The director should check such incidents because it gives vulgar image of the good show and good director.  This type of vulgarity suits the third grade directors for the third grade audience but Tavares is not a third grade nor the audience. I never saw double meaning statements in the Tiatros by the great directors like Alexinho de Candolim, J.P. Souzalin, Remie Colaco, Prem Kumar, Saib Rocha, Nelson Afonso and many more.  They were decent and upright directors having upright and decent upbringing at home.

In the Side Show songs, the first name comes to my mind was the beautiful solo rendered by the beautiful singer Sonia Sirsat with her beautiful voice on her personal life.  This I the first time I saw her acting in Tiatro and from the welcome she received from the audience it looks she is already a “Lokpria” od the audience.  Her second song a duet with melodious singer Anciedo Lawrence was yet another excellent item of the Side Show.

Anciedo’s opening solo was also good so also his trio with Lawry Travasso and Marcus Vaz. The writer director of this Tiatro with his majestic personality rendered his solo well. So also Benny de Aldona with his sweet attractive voice. Sammy

TIATRISTS FELICITATED ICLUDING JERRY CAL.

   Yesterday, 19.05.17 at Institute Menezes Braganza Hall, Panjim, at 4.15 pm,  I attended the felicitation function for Tiatrists for their enormous contribution in the promotion of this art.  Total number of artistes felicitated were 34, two of them Priests, namely Fr. Neville and Fr. E. Pereira all from the North Goa. Earlier it was given to understand that this felicitation was in appreciation of their life long contribution in the promotion of Tiatros.

     In fact,  earlier, the beginning was not done properly because according to my information, any Ladru-Pedru type of person was entrusted with the task of  selecting from their localities the Tiatrists for giving them the felicitation.  Being the class of Ladru-Pedru, these selectors in some cases indicated their bias towards the deserving Tiatrists who were not included in the earlier list. They were later on included for the felicitation. I must say that the main organizing body like Ladru-Pedru should not entrust the task of selecting the Tiatrists to any incompetent person especially from North side where there is too much of jealousy among the immature tin pot Tiatrists.

     This year Tiatro completes 125 years of its existence and to mark this occasion, “125^th Anniversary of Tiatro Celebrations Committee” celebrates this anniversary with this felicitation that was started in October last year and will end in this October.  The celebrations will last for one full year with different activities in addition to this felicitation.  Money is available in plenty because Goa government has doled one crore of rupees to have the celebrations.

      It would be nice on the part of the organizers of this celebrations to create a fund for those Tiatrists who may genuinely be in need of money either for sickness or for their survival.  I am sure people are aware of the great Tiatrist of yesteryears Saib Rocha who inspite of contributing tremendously for the development of Tiatros, was dumped into Old Age House where he died a very pitiable death.

     Likewise, many of our yesteryears Tiatrists have died a very miserable death due to financial scarcity.  Hence, it is imperative to create a fund for the needy Tiatrists from the One Crore Rupees doled by the Government. By the way, will it not be nice on the part of the organizers to regularly disclose the expenditure done for every activity so that people can  see the transparency of the expenditure? After all it is the pople’s money, i.e. One Crore of Rupees  that was given to celebrate this occasion.

    It would have been nice if Cold Drinks – snacks – Tea – water - was served for the attendees during the yesterday’s function.  The organizers could have spent a few hundred for this purpose especially when the money is available.

    The Guest of honour for this function Bai Platilda a well-known Tiatrist of yesteryears deserves highest compliments for delivering an excellent speech where she candidly disclosed the greatness of those elder Tiatrists who contributed their intelligence for the promotion of Tiatro but without much financial benefit.

     The Chief Guest Michel Lobo, MLA of Calangute Constituency and the Depty. Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly in his speech indicated his love and affection for Tiatro, Tiatrists and Konkani. He was very open for his love for Konkani.  It is my request to him now to help upgrade and support the cause of Romi Konkani which was robbed by the Nagrivadis with the support of few disgracefuls Romivadis from the KPA circle.  I am sure Michael Lobo with his strong pulls at official level will be able to support Romi Script Konkani to get its due recognition.

  The movement for Konkani recognition was spearheaded and supported by the overwhelming majority by the Romivadis but in the end the cunning Nagrivadis true to their genuine nature selfishly included Nagri script only in the official document.  We the Romivadis generated funds for Konkani cause, our Romivadis only suffered the martyrdom for the cause of Konkani among whom there was not a single Bhembro – Mauzo – Shivdas – Pundalik etc. We the romivadis worked so much for the cause of Konkani and fruits of our hard work was enjoyed by the cunning Nagrivadis.  I think we must treat them as enemies of Konkani. They had no marbles to raise funds for KPA movement, it was we the Kuwaitkars who supported them to run the KPA movement but they even fooled us. They should be treated as living Judases and let the posterity know this fact.

      When the Chief guest comes for any function, he must maintain some discipline as far as his dress code is concerned. Wearing a bush shirt for a majestic function is lowering the dignity of the function. Certain decorum should be maintained in dress code that magnify the quality of the function especially by the important persons for the important functions.

PANCHAYAT ELECTION AND OUR CANDIDATES.

As per the available information, Michael Lobo (MLA) during his speech at Sinquerim on 16^th of this month,  for the inauguration of children Park, said that he will work to appoint an enquiry commission  to investigate the disproportionate asset accumulated by some politicians and strongly reprimanded some elected Panchayat members who behave like Maharajas and Hitlers in Calangute.  Some of these politicians are even known to give ill-treatment to the locals when they come to the Panchayat office for any official work, said Mr. Lobo. Michael Lobo with his humble background is, inspite of reaching to such a high level, still the same having not lost his  originality. His simplicity and accessibility even to his opponents has helped him to win the second term.

It is my request to Mr. Lobo to apply this enquiry commission jurisdiction also to other villages including mine too where Ladr-Pedru type of people are owning chain of Hotels  and fleet of posh cars. We want to know from where they acquired the money to accumulate this fat asset.  Till yesterday these people had no proper Cycle nor a decent house but by joining politics first at Panchayat level and later  on  at upper level they acquired illicit wealth beyond their imagination and this wealth makes them act like Maharajas  and arrogant.

In my locality at least 2 “Ponch” Panch members are clearly indicating their wealthy assets by showing their hotel/restaurant and other things they acquired thru the illicit wealth they collected. They already got the taste of making money thru illicit means.  For this reason one of them is desperately trying to get a slot for him to contest the election outside of his Ward because his ward is gone into reserved ward.  The voters when they find such rogues contesting the election in your ward, please kick them out because they are outsiders in your ward.  Do not vote an outsider because these people are like Ghattis who are interested only in their wellbeing.

Ths is the only opportunity for the pople to show their anger on these Panchas who are rogues and acting like Hitlers.  Such Hitlers we must send to the Gas Chambers otherwise they will send us to the Gas Chambers if we allow them to win the coming election.
