On 28^th of last month, I saw the above named Tiatro at Kala Academy Open Air hall, Panjim, at 7.00 PM directed by Jude Michael Gracias with the participation of most of the artistes of Prince Jacob’s troupe while Prince Jacob himself playing the main comedy role with Cedrick Pinto. The others who played prominent roles were Jose, Reema Pereira, Valencia and evergreen veteran Diana. The attendance for this Tiatro was very good and the performance was  very well  by every artiste.

This Tiatro was first time staged about 50 years back by the mighty script writer the late Nelson Afonso with the participation of the then gigantic artistes like Conception, Anthony D’souza, Greg, Sabina and others.  The role played by Conception then as of the father now played very well by the veteran senior artiste Pegado and the role played by then of Sabina was unique.

However, even though those mighty matchless artistes of those days played their roles majestically well yet the current ones under the direction of Mr. Gracias also did well which was appreciated by the audience.

In the Side show songs which were all old ones as per the rule, Reema Pereira, Jose, Benny, Valencia, Cedrick  excelled in their solos, duets and trios, so also Chitra excelled extremely well in her charming solo with her charming style and charming presentation. Incidentally, she is the daughter-in-law of the late Nelson Afonso.

Before the start of the Tiatro, all the artistes paid floral  respect to the late script writer and on behalf of the Nelson Afonso’s family, Chitra presented a memento to the director of this Tiatro, Jude Michael Gracias who played an excellent role in the Play. He also did a very good role by beautifully rendering his songs namely duet with Reema whose performance was superb and duo with Benny.

The Stage setting was done well and the musical score was nicely provided by all the musicians.

Well done Jude and your entire troupe.  I congratulate you for your success in organizing such a mighty Tiatro of the mighty Pen of Nelson Afonso.

M. BOYER'S TIATRO “EKUCH ROSTO” DIRECTED BY TOMAZINHO CARDOSO.

THOUG M. Boyer died over a decade back yet his memory thru his excellent Tiatro “Ekuch Rosto”, brought back alive when Tomazinho Cardoso under his direction staged Boyer’s above named Tiatro at Kala Academy Open Air venue on 26^th of this month starting at 7.00 PM. This Tiatro was attended by the capacity attendees.  With everyone whom I spoke after the end of this Tiatro, I got only one answer “CHODD BORO”, in this group of people were not only the freshshers but also those oldies who watched this Tiatro under the direction of M Boyer when he was alive, 40 years back.  The first time this Tiatro was staged by M. Boyer four decades back when communal  sentiments and casteism was still at its peak. Leave aside in politics but even  in our day to day life and also even in our social, commercial and professional activities communalism was ruling supreme if not openly then at least in a disguise form.  This discord was first came to the fore immediately on the day Goa was invaded by the Bharati serkar headed by Jawaharlal Nehru. When once I asked Mr. Boyer what prompted him to write this Tiatro, replied M. Boyer saying “to eradicate from our society  the curse of communalism”.

The credit for staging this Tiatro so successfully should surely go to Tomazinho Cardoso because he did a thorough study of this script and selected as best as possible the new artistes to perform their respective roles as best as possible if not exactly the way original artistes performed.  One thing it must be admitted that no body among the current Tiatrists can be equal to M. Boyer, Antonette Mendes, Prem Kumar, Rita Rose and Alfred Rose in enacting their roles. No female artiste can emulate the beautiful voice of Antonette Mendes and if M. Boyer then attained his zenith it was partly because of the all round performance of Antonette Mendes and it was M. Boyer the lone director who utilized the entire talent of Atonette Mendes to promote his TiATROS.  The 2 most beautiful Cantos of her in this Tiatro brought back nostalgic feelings of her singing prowess though one of them the director this time brought on the stage as a Trio giving a touch of Mando but also performed beautifully by all the tree young girls.

The personality and looks of Rita Rose was matchless, Prem Kumar’s way of speaking like an elderly man was superb, M.Boyer’s role though small yet it was like captain’s inning, Alfred Rose was just a natural actor without any artificiality and Jacinto Vas was like a Pele in Brazil foot-ball team having no replacement to play his role. However, comedian 64 was very close to Jacinto Vaz in physical structure and acting.  The  artistes that deserved the highest compliments for playing their respective roles as Hindu couple – father and mother – Pradeep Naik and Irene Cardoso, of course flawlessly, the latter inspite of being a Christian played her role as a typical hindu woman very well.

The Side ShOW Songs consisted of all the old songs of oldies but still attractive and meaningful.

CANDOLIM GRAM SABAH TURNED INTO A FIASCO

The Grama Sabah of Candolim held on Sunday 25^th of this month at 10.45 AM turned into a total fiasco when in the middle of the proceedings all the attendees heeding to the call given by A.Veronica Fernandes Walked Out of the house in protest against the Sarpanch and all  his colleagues for refusing to oblige the people’s voice.  In one voice all the attendees asked to revoke the earlier stand on ODP. Mr. Veronica said since it is the voice of the people who voted the Panchayat members to power and as such this Panchayat body  is duty bound to listen to the voice of the voters who are the supreme because these voters who elected the Panchayat body to power.  When Panchayat refused to oblige, the call came from A.Veronica for Walk Out.

Earlier, Damiao, Mickey Fernandes, Roshan, Cheddo, Sachin Kurticar, Regina, Fatima and others  systematically grilled  the Sarpanch on his non-fulfilled promises for which he was wavering  in his vague answers. He got one dirty habit to say yes for everything to kill that particular  time and then forget the issue.  People have realized that he cannot be trusted any more. Hence, the WO staged by the people.

The Panchayat has  as noticed by the people,  greatly goofed in inducting into the minutes of the last Gramsabah Meeting one item which was not deliberated only.  This fraud on the part of Panchayat was a dangerous trend and for this fraud, cheating and lying, all the members of the ruling faction should he held responsible.  I don’t know some of the Church goer and recipient of holy communion Panchayat members how they  dared to indulge in such cheatings. The local Panchayat body members have created a fear complex into the minds of the locals of harassing them for not following certain procedures in doing their jobs, especially the illegal structures. The Harassment starts if any of the guilty villager objects panchayat member for any wrong doing. This is the only thing they can do otherwise they are cowards.  This is where our leaders are making a mistake, they catch their easy target first but when they accept the bribe money in lakhs of rupees from the builders that time it was not injustice?  Otherwise, some of our villagers after getting elected in the local Panchayat how they become lakpotis?  Can our Sarpanch and his other colleagues  disclose their source of income from the time they first got elected?  Can the “ded – Xanno khapri”  from our village declare his source of income?  In Goa some of the bloody beggars when they started their political career they were acting like slaves but once they get elected they acquire lot of wealth and from where this wealth caming and how? 

Secondly, I have seen wherever there is a leader in any locality from outside Goa and settled down in Goa as a naturalised citizen of Goa, that particular non-Goan outsider will never do justice for the cause for which he is appointed or elected. In view of this, how a Ghanttee from Karnataka will do justice to Goa and Goan causes?  The so called our leader the other day as I was told, threatened one local young man saying that “he can use goondda force to finish him”, as if he is so omnipotent.  In the light of this remark and threat, if there is any untoward incident takes place for any of our activists, the first person to be blamed will be the so called Karnataka Ghantee leader of our village. It is surprising how our village that gave birth to such a mighty world renown person Abade Faria gave birth to the cheat members of our Panchayat.  If they were not cheat then they would not played dirty tricks in introducing in the minutes of the last Gramsabah Meet one topic which was not  approved only.

Finally, to all my villagers, at this hour, you all should be bold and courageus to defend your rights to protect your village in all respects.  Do not trust Panchayat members especially the ruling faction. They are volatile and changeable as they did when they jumped from Agnel’s side to Lobo’s side.  And tomorrow if third person comes with a good offer they will join him  discarding Lobo as well. A few of the current members are so cunning that by enjoying the support from Tomazinho first and later on of Agnel they discarded both of them till both were defeated for good.  Now the third person for them to destroy will be Lobo who is showing signs of falling down. Time alone will give te testimony to what I what say. 

My dear villagers, some of our local Panchayat members should be stopped from acting like Maharajas, they are nothing minus their membership in the Panchayat. One of them when he came from outside Goa he did not have even a “zopottpotti’ to take shelter but now he thinks he is the owner of our village.  Most of the members are suffering from their ancestral hoi-polloi family inferiority complex, the artificial power they have acquired has reached to their heads but they must know one thing that the current power they have acquired is all temporary power which once ends “NOT EVEN A KUDDO MUS” will look at them.  Why the ‘Kuddo Mus will look at them?  What are they in life?  They are selfish interested in doing good for them only. See the Marie Antoinette of our village who was reigning our village how she acquired the land and erected her own trade/shopping center to her house?  I only hope somebody will not teach her a lesson as it was taught to French Marie Antoinette.
