Birth Centenary Celebrations of Aleixinho de Candolim


Villagers of Candolim will celebrate Birth Centenary of one of the greatest tiatr artistes of Konkani stage – Aleixinho de Candolim. The Centenary Celebrations will begin with a thanks giving Mass on 29th of September, 2012 at the church of Our Lady of Good Hope, Candolim. This will be followed by the inaugural function at 5.30 p.m. on the same day at St. Theresa’s School Complex, Candolim. On this occasion veteran tiatr artiste John Claro Fernandes will be the Chief Guest while Prince Jacob – President of Goa Tiatr Academy and Fr. Robin Romualdo Rodrigues - Parish Priest of the Candolim church will be the guests of honour. The Birth Centenary Celebrations are organized by Aleixinho de Candolim Birth Centenary Celebrations Committee headed by Agnelo Fernandes in collaboration with Kala Mogi, Candolim led by Tomazinho Cardozo.

 Born on 9th July 1913 in Candolim, Aleixinho de Candolim started to sing in Tiatrs at a very young age. He scripted his first tiatr entitled ‘Putanchea Duddvanchi As ani Avoyche Disgras’ in 1935. He himself composed all the songs and staged the tiatr with the help of village boys. The tiatr was liked by the people and the work of Aleixinho was well appreciated. Aleixinho established himself as a good writer and director too.

In all Aleixinho de Candolim scripted, directed and staged 27 tiatrs. These were staged in Goa as well as in Bombay. Some of his most popular tiatrs are: ‘Mhatarponn’, ‘Goycho Posorkar’, ‘Amcho Pordes’, ‘Mhojo Ghov Basurkar’, ‘To Bavtto Dhormancho’, ‘Ram Ram Baoji’, ‘Sonvsarant Konn Konnacho’, ‘Omtea Kollxear Udok’ ani ‘Amchea Xetachi Pavnni’. Most of his tiatrs were based on social issues existing at that time in the Goan society.

Aleixinho de Candolim Birth Centenary Celebration Committee and Kala Mogi Candolim have planned to organize numerous activities in this centenary year. Some of the activities are: (i) Kantaram Singing Competition for the villagers, (ii) A football tournament in memory of Aleixinho De Candolim, (iii) Workshops for tiatr artistes in script writing, acting, lyrics composing, etc. (iv) Production of an Audio Album of the songs of Aleixinho de Candolim, (v) Naming an appropriate place after Aleixinho de Candolim, (vi) Publication of a biography of Aleixinho de Candolim, (vii) Staging the Tiatr “Amchea Xetachi Pavnni” written by Aleixinho de Candolim, etc. The concluding function will take place on 9th July 2013.

All tiatr lovers are cordially requested to attend the inaugural function on 29th September which will be followed by a cultural programme of songs of Aleixinho de Candolim rendered by the well known singers from Candolim village besides comedy skits and mimicry presented by popular tiatr artistes namely Comedy Supremo Humbert, Commedian Pitush, Mimicry King Shaik Amir, Anil Pednekar and others.

Obituary & Heartfelt Condolences

The President, members, players and families of Navelim Youth Centre (NYC) -Kuwait deeply mourn the sad passing away of Mr. Joe Coutinho, brother-in-law of NYC member Mr. Norman Noronha (Kuwait/Navelim-Goa).
 
We pray to the Almighty to give Norman and his family the strength to bear this colossal loss and pray that the soul of the departed rests in peace.
