NEWLY ESTABLISHED FOOT-BALL ACADEMY IN CANDOLIM.

Candolim was called the cradle of beautiful soccer about a hundred years back when it produced some of the finest players, two of them are still in my mind, namely the gigantic forward Dioginho Vaz from Pintos Vaddo and the other Luciano from Dando, a powerful defender.  Candolim is yet to produce such greats. The elders never received the sophisticated training and yet they played sophisticated soccer with sophisticated foot-work and artistry.  Those elders did not develop their soccer skill in any football academy nor under the majestic Coaches like Cesar Mennoti from Argentina who helped Argentina to win the World Cup for the first time or Germany's mighty Franz Backenbeur but they developed on their own. However, now we are having in Candolim a Foot-ball Academy which is newly established with the best  of  newly done foot-ball ground by the local Panchayat by spending a huge amount of money.

Ricardo Cardoso is the son of Eugeno Cardoso once an ace Candolim goalkeeper who also donned the colours of Dempo Sports Club and Goa XI too and who following the footsteps of his father inherited the best of soccer skills of his father who also was a custodian; in this capacity Ricardo donned the colours of Culcutta’s giants Mohun Bhagan, Goa’s mighty Churchill Bros., Bengaluru and etc. Leaving the Calcutta giants Mohun Bhagan this year, he came back to his roots in Goa and initiated a new coaching programme known as “SUPER 30 SOCCER SCHOOL” and started Football Academy where currently he is training in Candolim for about 100 boys devided into 3 segments, namely: 1) 6 - 12 years;  2) 13 - 14 years;  and 3) 15 -17 years.

There are about 6 coaches and assistant coaches including Physio Therapy Doctor and they are all headed by  the Head Coach Ricardo Cardoso who has devised the new concept of training soccer to young foot-ballers according to the modern soccer techniques.

Currently, the training is conducted thrice a week at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro Stadium in Candolim in the evenings at 4.00 PM under the watchful eyes of all the Trainers who give personal attention to every trainee with much assistance and attention. These youngsters are taught all the basics required to become stalwart in this game. Each  training session lasts  1.30 hour.

It is great to see so many mothers and fathers of young footballers joyfully accompanying their young sons to the football ground in Candolim with much interest in seeing their sons becoming good foot-ballers. With this interest in the beautiful game of soccer even the unity among the villagers is increased, thanks to this Academy and its initiator the son of Candolim Ricardo Cardoso.

Ricardo Cardoso is now running this soccer camp in collaboration with the local Panchayat and local MLA/Minister Michael Lobo. According to the information, Sarpanch Fermino and ex Sarpanch Blazio along with Minister Michael Lobo there is much interest generated into this Academy and its coaching system. The head coach Ricardo Cardoso speaking to this writer indicated his total satisfaction with both the Panchayat stalwarts and also with the Minister Lobo for their enthusiasm they indicated in this coaching system.

Let us hope now that Candolim will produce great footballers as it has done in the past.

IMPERATIVE NEED OF FILLING THE VACANCY OF TAG IMMEDIATELEY.

During my attendance for  the first ever international Tiatr Conference at Ravindra Bhuwan, Margao, on 6^th of this month in a daylong function where I was presented with the first ever TIATR RATNA PUROSKAR,  as the chief guest, the former CM, Digambar Kamat while addressing the gathering showed his total condemnation against the Tiatr Academy of Goa for till now not appointing its president. He further said that it was he, Digambar Kamat as the CM of Goa that helped the formation of TAG whence he even provided the budget for it.

It is almost according to my information, a year now the TAG is a headless body temporarily running its affairs under the temporary president who inspite of having on his head more such bodies is  exhausting  his physical and mental abilities to look after TAG. This body requires one full fledged president and not a partially splitted one.  How can a man do proper justice to the job when he is not fully involved in it and leaving the important responsibilities into the hands of one of his staff whose rank in the hierarchy is not even tertiary, leave aside secondary !! If ordinary Clerks and Peons had to do the job of the president then why we make proviso for the appointment of the presidents? I demand that those candidates who are also involved in other associations holding the office bearers post  there, they should never be inducted on the TAG presidency.  And I feel knowing the pulse of the Goan candidates most of them are shameless fit to be pimps and who are greedy for holding  innumerable posts  as if they are omnipotent and others are  idiots.  In fact, those who are going for more than one post and occupying the same together simultaneously are biggest idiots.  I also hope that those who are first timer candidates alone should  be appointed on  this post.  I understand that some canvassing and begging is going on with the  concerned Minister (s) to appoint so and so person for this post.  The concerned Minister should be very careful in going ahead with this option and he should know that TAG is not his (their) father' (s) property. 

There is no dearth of the good youthful candidates available now among us especially in Tiatro fraternity to display their enthusiasm in giving their best and bringing some required changes in the functioning of TAG if any of them is given a chance, though my preference rather goes for the  youth. A fresher should be a suitable candidate such as Joe Rose or Rose Ferns or Wilmix and among females Jessy Dias or Sharon Mazarello.

I request the politicians especially the Ministers to refrain from using their clout to fill this post with their own candidate. The candidate should be selected on merit only.

CANDOLIM SENIOR CITIZENS ASSOCIATION MARK THEIR ANNIVERSARY

                                                                                                                                                                    On second of this month in Candolim Dando, at the Bom Sucesso Restaurant, Candolim Senior Citizens Association organized their get-together to mark the second anniversary of the formation of their association in Candolim.  The anniversary function was attended by the members and other especial invitees.

The chief guest was Mr. Prabakhar Timble while Dilip Borker was the guest of honour.  Both of them gave high quality speeches and impressed the audience extremely well. Both were very active in social and other fields.

The function started with singing of traditional Manddo with Dulpods by the excellent group from Majorda under the leadership of Jude Michael Gracias.  It was a great Mando with the  beautiful Dulpods rendered by both the lead singers Jude Michael Gracias and Valency with the excellent  musical score provided by the young musicians playing the Violin, Gumott, Guitar and other important instruments.

During the function, three prominent personalities from Candolim were felicitated for their contribution in their activities in different fields,  namely the president of the association Mr. A. Veronica Fernandes, Dr. Shivananda Verlekar and Luiza D’Souza.
