Prominent Goans Honored

Bahrain: The social group Bahrain Goans promoting football and Konkani programmes among the Goan community of Bahrain staged Comedian Janet and Filipe Almeida's tiatr 'Soglim Khuxeal' at the Baan Saeng Thai Restaurant Auditorium in Bahrain recently.
 
Bahrain Goans used the interval break of the show to present mementoes and honor a few prominent personalities.
 
Francis Correia - The eminent Goan in Bahrain, currently President of the Young Goans Club was honored by Goan community members for his selfless service among Indians and in particular with the Goans of Bahrain. Mr. Correia, who has won laurels for his social, charitable and humanitarian works from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Bahrain was also bestowed with the Community Service Leadership Award by Govt. of Goa,  NRI Affairs in 2008. On behalf of the Goan Community of Bahrain, he was presented with a memento by Maxie Fernandes, the Marketing and Sales Manager of Al Shariff Group.

Shruthi Digambar Naik who is visiting Bahrain for the second time with a tiatr group was presented with a memento for her contribution to the konkani stage since her early childhood days. She received the memento from Vincent D'Costa of Bahrain Goans.
 
C.D.Silva -  renowned tiatrist of yesteryears who has subscribed to the konkani stage in a variety of roles and known as 'man of thousand faces' of the Konkani stage was bestowed with a shawl by the President of the Young Goans Club, Francis Correia.
 
Tony Gonsalves (Divar/U.K.) - of Wembley Goans, who toured the Gulf States with the 'Soglim Khuxeal' group was also presented with a memento for his endeavours to keep the Konkani language affluent with the Goans in England by organizing tiatrs and Konkani programmes. Mr. Ahmed Zayani of the Folk Theatre presented the memento to him.
 
Comedian Janet/Felipe Almeida - the directors of 'Soglim Khuxeal' who are visiting Bahrain for the first time were also presented with a memento as a remembrance of staging their show in Bahrain. Hilary Sanches of Bahrain Goans did the presentation.
 
Present, also on stage during this short ceremony were Francis Vaz of FFR Production and Felix Rodrigues of Bahrain Goans. G.R.Crasto compered the proceedings.
