CORTALIM BY-ELECTION: GOA GOVT ISSUED NOTICE FOR VIOLATING MODEL CODE OF CONDUCT
By: Adv. Aires Rodrigues.
The Goa Government has been issued a notice for the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct currently in force in view of the bye elections to the Cortalim Assembly constituency scheduled for June 2nd.
Acting on a complaint filed by Adv. Aires Rodrigues, the Joint Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Narayan Navti has in a notice sent to the Chief Secretary of Goa drawn his attention to the alleged violations of the model code of conduct by the Goa Government.
Adv. Rodrigues in his complaint had drawn the attention of the Chief Electoral officer that despite the model code of conduct being in force from April 24th that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was announcing various decisions in rank violation of the model code of conduct.
Demanding that the Goa Government should be directed to strictly abide by the Model Code of Conduct, Adv. Rodrigues has accused Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of misusing power by high handedly and blatantly violating the model code of conduct.
Citing the announcements made by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar earlier this week after a cabinet meeting on the Marina project at Sancoale and the regularization of the Malaria workers, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that such decisions could not be taken or announced while the Code of conduct was in force without the prior permission and approval of the Election Commission.
The Joint Chief Electoral officer has directed the Chief Secretary of Goa to advise the government to defer from making such announcements till the process of the Cortalim Assembly constituency bye- election is over.
