The Calangute Panchayat needs to be lauded for annually remembering January 16th the anniversary of that historic 1967 Opinion Poll that saved Goa from being a mere taluka of Maharastra. It is also remembering the great late Dr Jack Sequeira. There is no reason why this auspicious day should not be commemorated at a State level.
Successive governments have done nothing in memory of the late father of the Opinion Poll. The younger and coming generations need to be told and reminded about the great contribution of Dr Jack Sequeira for the betterment of Goa.
I remember with nostalgia witnessing the great debates by Dr Jack Sequeira in the Goa Legislative Assembly. I also had the privilege of addressing along with him many public meetings in the 70’s. Leaders of his integrity, honesty and commitment we may now never see in this world of political pygmies.
It is hoped that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will ensure that the government does something concrete to perpetuate the memory of the late Dr Jack Sequeira. It should be our endeveaour to save and salvage what remains of Goa. Unfortunately Goa is getting defaced beyond recognition at an electrifying speed
